I'm finding this is an increasing, although inconsistent, problem with JAWS
2018 and email. What usually works is the alt commands, e.g., alt-5 (above
the letters), with the 5 pressed twice quickly, to put focus in the subject
line.

Has anyone noticed if using Microsoft Office 2007 that JAWS doesn't seem to
read a message subject field when you are composing a new one and tab to it?
It reads the field title but not the contents of the subject field unless
you arrow around.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Office

2015-12-29 Thread Steve
Al,

There's a lot more to Office than Outlook. And, the lower-end versions of
Office like Home and Student, or I think even Business don't have Outlook.
But,
one might want Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

I don't know how accessible 2016 is in whole, although I do know that some of
it
is accessible. But, there may be certain tasks that aren't as accessible as
previous versions of Office, which are still available if you look around.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Office

2015-12-29 Thread Merv Keck
Hi,
Office 2016 is pretty accessible with a few issues remaining as with many
Windows 10 applications. Each day accessibility continues to improve but is
still a work in progress. This in all fairness has been pretty much the deal
since Office 2010. Microsoft needs to do some work with their accessibility
driver and Jaws needs to improve on a few things which is always the case as
we live in a very complex world these days. For example, in Word 2016 and
2013 in when printing envelopes none of the leading screen readers do a
really good job with editing the return or the delivery address. However
Narrator works just fine. In Outlook 2016 none of the screen readers handle
the spell checker perfectly. That has been an issue since 2010.
I use Word, Excel, and Outlook daily and wouldn't give either one up. I am
currently using Jaws 17 very successfully with them and although there are a
few things I am hoping to see fixed before Jaws 18 I certainly would not
hesitate to buy either one again.
Hope that helps
Merv

[JAWS-Users] microsoft office 2010

2015-07-29 Thread Kevin
I have the full microsoft office 2010 and I want to just install word.
I’m using the latest build of jaws 16
and I have run the installer.
I select custom install press enter but I don’t get a list of the components to
install nor are there even any check boxes.
anyone know how I can do this, I do not use anything else but word and when I
install everything I get a whole bunch of ms outlook files. I don’t use
outlook.

Responding off list means to respond only to the one who sent the e-mail
being answered, so that the message sent goes to the sender of that e-mail,
but not to the rest of the list. If I hit Insert, Shift R, Jaws tells me
that I am sending directly to the sender.

George, I kept this open, so I could come back and check, because I couldn't
remember the strokes all that well. I found that they worked in Facebook
Mobile, but not in regular Facebook. One thing that we did find is that
Control F will work over there for Find. He figured out that in e-mails, I
could use Control E to find stuff. It finds people in the Address Book. When
my now deceased husband had Windows Mail in Vista, that one could have
solved some problems for me. Anyway, I hope that they work for you in FB
Mobile. I wasn't sure, but arrowed, and Alt Question Mark did put me in the
Search Box. The other alts work over there OK. I didn't try everything
though. Sorry if this doesn't work out.

could use Control E to find stuff.

Hi Carolyn,
Really, I tried to figure out the first command:
+m enter
In this laptop there is no single + key, unless I press the shift key to
create a +.
So, how are you performing this command?

So the alt would work in facebook?

I'll save the command you posted, just in case???
Thanks,

If all else fails, my husband found a new trick, did this for me for
keystrokes for Facebook, which I'll include for anyone who does not have it.

He said when I got my new computer, we could just go to the net and find key
strokes for my program. He was amazed about the key stroke for place marks.
I will include these, in case anyone can use them. Incidentally, I didn't
put plus, I just put, like Alt 1, Enter. Putting in plus can be confusing
like should I put in the Plus Sign? Anyway, here they are:

Alt M Enter - New message

Alt Question Mark Enter - Cursor in Search Box

Alt 1Enter - Home Page

Alt 2Enter - Profile page

Alt 3 Enter - Friend request

Alt 4 plus enter - Message (if any)

Alt 5 Enter - - Notifications

2015-06-29 Thread TheHangMan
Carolyn,
Thank you for your help on facebook.

I got to put myself together with my notes on facebook.
I been avoiding facebook for years, one of the main things is pictures are
pretty much useless.
And I like better my one to one conversations and not social media.

Sorry, to hear about your husband, when I read your other quote about a gift
from God,
I kinda disagree on that quote...
Well, that's enough talk on an indirect reply in this club,
Sometimes a reply doesn't work correctly and it gets posted for everyone to
read.

Have a good day,

Jorge

Hi

I seem to remember Jaws reading the sequencial hot keys that office started
to use I believe in 2007 version. You would find file save as and jaws would
say alt followed by F A. It doesn't do that any more so I wanted to know if
this is something with office 2013 or if there's a setting I can change that
will make Jaws tell me these key tips.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft office hot keys

2015-06-28 Thread Carolyn Arnold

Hi Carolyn,
Really, I tried to figure out the first command:
+m enter
In this laptop there is no single + key, unless I press the shift key to
create a +.
So, how are you performing this command?

So the alt would work in facebook?

I'll save the command you posted, just in case???

I will include these, in case anyone can use them. Incidentally, I didn't

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft office hot keys

2015-06-28 Thread Michael B.
Hi Jorge,

The plus only means that you are adding an additional key press. Example:
Control, Shift, + D, means while holding the, control Shift keys down you
then press the, D, key while the control shift keys are being held down.
You don't actually use the plus key. So, if the Facebook keystroke is Alt +
M, you hold down the Alt key press the letter, M.
HTH
Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Office Word 2010

2013-12-21 Thread David Whitehead
hello there;
I'm wondering perhaps if your normal.dotm is somehow gotten corrupted.

One of my users reported issue with normal.dot template issue when closing
Word 2010.

Each time user tries to close the document in MS Word 2010 he gets the
following error message:

This file is in use by another application or user.
(C:\Users.\Normal.dotm). Followed by a prompt to save a new template
version of Normal.dotm.

To fix this here's what you can do..

navigate to:

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates

Delete the normal.dotm files...

Next time you open and close Word application a new normal.dotm file should
be automatically created.

you can get there by;

1, windows+r=run;
type in the following;
%appdata%
this will place you in;
C:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft

now navigate to, microsoft press enter;
now look for templates,
press enter.

Oh yes. If there is a way to move that old 2007 authorization, I was able to

I can tell you that Office 2010 works well with Jaws, though you'll notice a
few changes. You can probably purchase authorization keys from Microsoft for
much less than repurchasing the full program suites though.
I'm sure others will know where older versions of Office can be purchased, but
the newer versions do work well.
Good luck.

Oh yes. If there is a way to move that old 2007 authorization, I was able to
retrieve the hard drive in tact so do have that copy. I just don’t know how
to gain access to it.

Hi,

WordPad or notepad may open the .doc file, but be prepared then for a
lot of weird characters while reading it. .

Hi DGCNC,

Try assigning Word Pad or Note Pad to open the .DOC files, I believe
that

will work for you. HTH

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft office 2010 and jaws

2010-02-18 Thread Donald Marang
I tried the Office 2010 Home and Small Business Click to run edition. I
wanted to try Excel and Word. The Click to run edition is a Microsoft
experiment in rolling out a virtualized version of Office. It does not get
installed in the typical way! When you click on the icon, instead of
installing, it downloads and runs the application quickly and continues to
download the application while it is being used. With the exception of
Outlook, it will not interfere with other versions of Office installed on
the computer.

I m intrigued by the technology, but was not impressed by it's operation! I
prefer to have these types of applications permanently installed locally for
performance reasons. I could understand this technology for large
corporation deployment over local networks, which is where I think it was
derived. For some reason, Microsoft feels like it needs to respond to
working in the cloud like Google Apps.

In addition to severe stability problems with the Click to run
virtualization, I found accessibility issues as well! Excel was completely
inaccessible with JAWS 11! JAWS could not even move through the grid or
respond when editing a cell! It could not read any of the data. Perhaps
Microsoft made major changes to the screen layout? In the case of Excel,
waiting for JAWS 12 is absolutely necessary. I did not have the same issues
with Word, but could rarely open a document without a fatal error because of
the virtualization. Therefore, I did not have a chance to use it very much.

[JAWS-Users] MICROSOFT OFFICE PROBLEMS

2009-06-05 Thread Marvin Hunkin
HI.
well need some help.
some one may have run into this problem using word 2007 or word 2003.
i am using word 2007.
i want to have numbered points 1,2,3... i go to the number group box and select
1,2,3, but instead of getting 1 for the first list item, i get i, ii, v, etc.
now how to change this to 1,2,3...
also when i arrow down using the down arrow to read through the text.
instead of saying the line of text on one line or one sentence.
it seems to break half way through and start on the next line.
how can i make sure that the sentence is all on one line, and then have the
next sentence on the next line, or have the text wrap around properly.
any one can give me some steps how to fix this?
cheers Marvin.

2009-05-26 Thread Brian Lee

Hello Marvin,

When you insert a table in Word 2007 there are two new tabs added to the
ribbon, one is the design tab and the other the layout tab. The first
button on the lower part of the ribbon for the layout tab is the select
button. The quick keys to use are Alt followed by J followed by L followed
by K.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Microsoft Office Communicator 2005

2007-12-24 Thread Cohn, Jonathan C [IT]
Folks,

I have asked this question before, but there are more folks on the list
now, and I have made significant progress.

My office uses MS Communicator 2005 for instant messaging. I was able
to get a bit of functionality extensions by copying the msn-messenger
scripts to have a name of communicator.XXX

I can
1. use alt-1 through alt-1o and F11/F12 successfully. Text of new
inputs appears to work correctly when in either the main MC-Communicator
window or the actual conversation window.

I even got most of the switch to functionality to work..
If my conversation windows are not minimalized then windows-1 works as
expected. But if the conversation is minimalized then Jaws says it is
switching to conversation 1 but then never does.

Also the emoticons functions do not appear to work and the typing sound
does not come through.

Anybody else work with MS-Communicator and get any additional
functionality?

Thanks,

Jon
