Al, There's a lot more to Office than Outlook. And, the lower-end versions of Office like Home and Student, or I think even Business don't have Outlook. But, one might want Word, Excel and Powerpoint. I don't know how accessible 2016 is in whole, although I do know that some of it is accessible. But, there may be certain tasks that aren't as accessible as previous versions of Office, which are still available if you look around. - Original Message - From: Alan Robbins To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Tuesday, December 29, 2015 8:23 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Office Fred, If you are using WLM now, why do you want to go to MS Office on the new computer? Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Office
Hi, Office 2016 is pretty accessible with a few issues remaining as with many Windows 10 applications. Each day accessibility continues to improve but is still a work in progress. This in all fairness has been pretty much the deal since Office 2010. Microsoft needs to do some work with their accessibility driver and Jaws needs to improve on a few things which is always the case as we live in a very complex world these days. For example, in Word 2016 and 2013 in when printing envelopes none of the leading screen readers do a really good job with editing the return or the delivery address. However Narrator works just fine. In Outlook 2016 none of the screen readers handle the spell checker perfectly. That has been an issue since 2010. I use Word, Excel, and Outlook daily and wouldn't give either one up. I am currently using Jaws 17 very successfully with them and although there are a few things I am hoping to see fixed before Jaws 18 I certainly would not hesitate to buy either one again. Hope that helps Merv -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Steve Sent: Tuesday, December 29, 2015 11:52 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Office Al, There's a lot more to Office than Outlook. Hi Pablo, It's a reply command just for this club. For you just to reply back to the person who's name appears on the title block. Like I'm doing with you. It back fired on me yesterday, because the server sent to all. And if you write something personal intended for one person to hear, well, everybody got a copy. The control + R replies to ALL! Carolyn, Thank you for your help on facebook. I got to put myself together with my notes on facebook. I been avoiding facebook for years, one of the main things is pictures are pretty much useless. Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft office hot keys
Hi Jorge, The plus only means that you are adding an additional key press. Example: Control, Shift, + D, means while holding the, control Shift keys down you then press the, D, key while the control shift keys are being held down. You don't actually use the plus key. So, if the Facebook keystroke is Alt + M, you hold down the Alt key press the letter, M. HTH Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Office Word 2010
hello there; I'm wondering perhaps if your normal.dotm is somehow gotten corrupted. One of my users reported issue with normal.dot template issue when closing Word 2010. Each time user tries to close the document in MS Word 2010 he gets the following error message: This file is in use by another application or user. (C:\Users.\Normal.dotm). Followed by a prompt to save a new template version of Normal.dotm. To fix this here's what you can do.. navigate to: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates Delete the normal.dotm files... Mike, This will work for my limited need. Just to be clear for others who may read this, Jaws will not read the Word document. It is apparently an image. So, I can copy and paste the contents of the file into Notepad and read, edit, or anything I may need to do. I can do this! Thanks again. DGCNC -Original Message- From: Mike B. Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Office
I can tell you that Office 2010 works well with Jaws, though you'll notice a few changes. You can probably purchase authorization keys from Microsoft for much less than repurchasing the full program suites though. I'm sure others will know where older versions of Office can be purchased, but the newer versions do work well. Good luck. Has anyone tested the beta version of office 2010 with jaws 11. I would like to test but I want to see if anyone is doing so and whether is a good idea or I need to wait for jaws 12 to do so. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft office 2010 and jaws
I tried the Office 2010 Home and Small Business Click to run edition. I wanted to try Excel and Word. The Click to run edition is a Microsoft experiment in rolling out a virtualized version of Office. It does not get installed in the typical way! When you click on the icon, instead of installing, it downloads and runs the application quickly and continues to download the application while it is being used. With the exception of Outlook, it will not interfere with other versions of Office installed on the computer. I m intrigued by the technology, but was not impressed by it's operation! I prefer to have these types of applications permanently installed locally for performance reasons. I could understand this technology for large corporation deployment over local networks, which is where I think it was derived. For some reason, Microsoft feels like it needs to respond to working in the cloud like Google Apps. In addition to severe stability problems with the Click to run virtualization, I found accessibility issues as well! Excel was completely inaccessible with JAWS 11! JAWS could not even move through the grid or respond when editing a cell! It could not read any of the data. Perhaps Microsoft made major changes to the screen layout? In the case of Excel, waiting for JAWS 12 is absolutely necessary. I did not have the same issues with Word, but could rarely open a document without a fatal error because of the virtualization. Therefore, I did not have a chance to use it very much. [JAWS-Users] MICROSOFT OFFICE PROBLEMS
HI. well need some help. some one may have run into this problem using word 2007 or word 2003. i am using word 2007. i want to have numbered points 1,2,3... i go to the number group box and select 1,2,3, but instead of getting 1 for the first list item, i get i, ii, v, etc. now how to change this to 1,2,3... also when i arrow down using the down arrow to read through the text. instead of saying the line of text on one line or one sentence. it seems to break half way through and start on the next line. how can i make sure that the sentence is all on one line, and then have the next sentence on the next line, or have the text wrap around properly. any one can give me some steps how to fix this? cheers Marvin. Re: [JAWS-Users] MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007 SELECTING TABLES
Hello Marvin, When you insert a table in Word 2007 there are two new tabs added to the ribbon, one is the design tab and the other the layout tab. The first button on the lower part of the ribbon for the layout tab is the select button. The quick keys to use are Alt followed by J followed by L followed by K. Take care. [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Office Communicator 2005
Folks, I have asked this question before, but there are more folks on the list now, and I have made significant progress. My office uses MS Communicator 2005 for instant messaging. I was able to get a bit of functionality extensions by copying the msn-messenger scripts to have a name of communicator.XXX I can 1. use alt-1 through alt-1o and F11/F12 successfully. Text of new inputs appears to work correctly when in either the main MC-Communicator window or the actual conversation window. I even got most of the switch to functionality to work.. If my conversation windows are not minimalized then windows-1 works as expected. But if the conversation is minimalized then Jaws says it is switching to conversation 1 but then never does. Also the emoticons functions do not appear to work and the typing sound does not come through. Anybody else work with MS-Communicator and get any additional functionality?
