[JOYnet] Pray for Singapore

2003-04-04 Thread tomsons
Dear All,

Hope you have heard about the epidemic in Singapore - Severe Acute Respiratory
Syndrome (SARS). This is a type of atypical pneumonia originated from China
and was brought to Singapore by three travellers from Hong Kong. Five people
in Singapore have already died of this. This is an air borne disease and
research is ongoing to find a cure. All the schools here are closed for two
weeks. Now the situation seems to be under control.

One hospital here is identified exclusively for SARS patients only. Some of
the nurses and doctors attended to the patients also have been infected even
though they had worn masks and gloves etc. Many malayalee nurses (including
JYs) work in that hospital. One of them was infected but have recovered
since.

Please pray for all the people affected by this decease. Specially pray for
all the medical staff, JYs and Malayalam prayer group members working in those
hospitals. Also pray for the early containment of this decease.

Sirach 38:9 My Child, when you are ill, do not delay but pray to the Lord,
and He will heal you.
Mathew 15:30b, 31b They put them at his feet and he cured them.and they
praised the God of Israel.

With Love and Prayers
Tomson

[JOYnet] Pray for peace

2003-03-23 Thread Christopher D'Souza
I received this as a forward. But it seems very Catholic and very
sensible. Please dont respond to this with opinions for / against
America/Iraq, but rather on views and prayers for peace.

STATEMENT ON THE COMMENCEMENT OF WAR BY THE UNITED STATES

By the JESUIT and FRANCISCAN SCHOOLS OF THEOLOGY
in the GRADUATE THEOLOGICAL UNION

Berkeley, CA. - As of last evening, the United States of America has
unleashed its immense, indeed unprecedented, military might against the
nation of Iraq. We, the faculty, staff and students of the Franciscan
and Jesuit Schools of Theology add our voices to those who pray for
peace.

Along with so many others throughout the world, we are deeply troubled
by the situation in Iraq that provoked this invasion. As persons
inspired by the life and teaching of Jesus who calls us to a new way of
being in the world, we hold to a strong moral presumption against war.
Rooted in our convictions of what the call to discipleship demands,
especially as expressed in the Sermon on the Mount, we must continue to
proclaim that love is possible. The message and example of Jesus is
about compassionate solidarity with all, especially the innocent
civilians who have already suffered the effects of deprivation brought
on by years of military strikes and economic sanctions. We fear that
this military intervention will only contribute further to the
widespread suffering of the Iraqi people and the prolonged instability
of that region.

We believe that our basic duty as a people inspired by the gospel of
peace is to avoid the violence of war. Any exceptions to this duty
should be subject to strict review by the criteria of the moral
tradition of just war. Even if we accept that, in a world marred by sin,
force is sometimes justified when nations must defend themselves, we are
persuaded that the present circumstances do not warrant the force of war
and that peaceful diplomatic means have not yet been exhausted. In our
judgment unleashing the massive violence of this military invasion of
Iraq is an act of unjust aggression.

We recognize that people of good will may apply the same ethical
principles that we use and come to a different prudential judgment. But
we hold, in solidarity with the U.S. Catholic Bishops and Pope John Paul
II, that the conditions for a just war have not been met.

First we do not believe that this war meets the principle of just
cause, which Catholic teaching limits to a defense against an actual or
clearly imminent attack from another nation. The fact that Saddam
Hussein has been successfully contained for the past twelve years and is
not deemed a threat by even his most proximate neighbors suggests to us
that the threat to the United States is not sufficiently grave and
imminent to warrant preemptive or preventive aggression.

Second, Catholic teaching mandates that war can only be declared by a
legitimate authority representing the will of the wronged public. The
United States has not been wronged by Iraq; and according to the United
Nations Charter, ratified by the U.S. giving it the full force of law in
our land, only the United Nations' Security Council - not a collection
of several member nations - possesses the legal authority to enforce a
U.N. resolution.

Third, to be ethically justifiable, an act of war must have a clear
probability of a successful outcome. In the judgment of millions around
the world, which we share, even a quick military success will probably
entail an immeasurable stream of deleterious consequences. We remain
deeply concerned that America's aggression will provoke terrorist
attacks at home and precipitate greater instability and militarism
throughout the Middle East for many years to come.

A fourth principle, proportionality, insists that the anticipated costs
incurred by war must not outweigh whatever good is being pursued. But,
without doubt, the costs of this war will be too high, especially when
measured by the losses to all the human family, not just to Americans.
We may never know the number of Iraqi soldiers killed during the first
Gulf War. We do know, however, that several thousand Iraqi civilians
were killed and, according to a recent UNICEF report, the number of
children who have died since the War's completion as a result of
malnutrition and disease has now reached one-half million. We mourn this
loss of life and are aghast to see history, in a sense, repeating
itself.

Finally, we believe this current war to be an egregious violation of
the moral principle of last resort. Rigorous U.N. sponsored inspections,
multi-lateral weapons embargos and other non-proliferation measures,
international cooperation and diplomacy- these are what a gospel
inspired vision of life together would call for and what peace-loving
citizens must demand from their governments. Indeed, we consider the
Administration's new policy of expansive military preemption to be
patently immoral because it transforms war into the strategy of first

[JOYnet] PRAY FOR ALL IN WAR

2003-03-21 Thread FR. THOMAS THARAYIL
Dear Friends,
Now that the war is under way we must pray for all who are being affected by
it in one way or other. There are many who are suffering; physically and mentally. Let
us not stop praying for peace.
At this point let us remember, in a special way, the people of Iraq Kuwait.
Let us keep in mind very specially our fellow JYs in all the middle east, especially
Kuwait. So also let us pray for the soldiers, their families, and above all for the
leaders who are involved. Ultimately may we hope and pray that even out of this
painful and tragic situation something good will come out in the infinite plan of God.
Dear JY friends in the war stricken zones, we offer you our prayers. Our
thoughts and hearts go out with you.. May the Lord who protected His people in olden
days still keep you from all harm. We, the JYA offer our special prayers for you as we
come together tomorrow for the Renew Toronto WYD-2002.

[JOYnet] Pray 4 the Middle East

2003-03-06 Thread Manoj Mathew
Dear friends in Jesus,

It's been long time since I shared sth to U as I was busy with some assignments. I
wish all of U have a very fruitful lentan season. As the clouds of war is being
accumulated in the Middle East, our Holy Father has specially asked the faithful to
fast on Friday 7th March and pray to the Queen of peace so that the immenant war may
be averted. We know that every war begins in human mind. We also believe that the
Creator can change the hearts of His creatures, even though He has created us free
beings. We call this the power of prayer. So let's take this opportunity to pray 4
the middle east and do possible mortifications where ever we are. Let the infinite
love of Jesus bind us together even though we are on the different parts of the globe.

A Friend in Jesus,

Manoj Mathew Kavumkal

[JOYnet] Pray before it starts

2003-02-02 Thread Jento Joy
PRAY BEFORE IT STARTS

A torch has been lit to be
passed along to your e-mail friends...
asking them to pass it alongand alongand along.
We can do something about the
threat of war; both in Iraq and with terrorists.
In the Old Testament, God's
armies were always led by the priests.

When the waters parted in the Jordan, it was the priests'
feet which first hit the turbulent river.
In the New Testament, Christians are also
referred to as priests...all Christians.
We must, therefore, go in first.

As the possibility of war approaches with
Hussein and Iraq, we are asking
the priests to step in first.ahead of our military.
Let us be setting
up camp for our soldiers' entrance into the conflict.
How?
By prayer.

Let us be sending in prayer missiles,
cruise and scud prayers to target
enemy plans. Patriot prayers
to shoot down incoming threats.

We should be praying for two things:
(1) that the enemy leaders
become confused, disoriented,
and distrustful of each other;
that their entire system of attack fall apart, and

(2) that in God's wildest ways,
these enemies would become aware of
His deep love for them and the war
Jesus has already fought for them,
personally, on the cross. God had
Gideon reduce his army from 32,000 to 300 men.
He then equipped them with
nothing but trumpets, pitchers, and torches.
What an odd combination
to fight off well-armed soldiers.

When Gideon gave the command, the Bible
says the enemy fled crying and turned
on each other...all because God
messed with enemy plans.

Prayers were started for this about a month ago.

On CNN a report came out that
although Hussein has nothing to lose, his generals do.
Is confusion beginning to develop?
Please pray for God to set the
stage for defeat of all those who
intend to do harm. When our men and
women of uniform arrive on the scene,
may they be surprised at how God had
camp set up before they ever got there.

Would you please do two things?
(1) pray, and
(2) pass this along to those
you know will pray.

May we build an e-mail army of over
a million in force...beginning with you.

Now send this to as many
people as you can!!
Help build an email army!!!

[JOYnet] Pray without ceasing

2002-09-04 Thread lyann dandge

- A New Way To Pray from Jesus journal weekly

Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that
you
receive them, and you will have them.” Mark 11:24

Jesus expects us to be a praying people. The fact is, most of us aren’t very
good at it. Most of us mouth our petitions and seek blessings, but too few
of us
prevail in prayer.

And even though we know the Bible teaches that we should “pray without
ceasing,”
(1 Thessalonians 5:17), most of us don’t pray often enough. That’s where a
“new
way to pray” comes in.

Rather than getting lost in morning and evening prayers, or rather than
trying
to emulate Muslims by praying a certain number of times per day, we need to
be
constantly in prayer. But it should not be abstract, but a part of our
daily
routine.

For example, when you have breakfast in the morning, walk around the table
and
pray for each member of the family. If you see a Highway Patrolman as you
drive
to work, ask God to bless him and keep him safe. If a co-workers shares a
family
problem, silently pray for that matter on the spot. Writing a letter or
email to
someone? Pray for the recipient as you sign or send it. Pray for people you
read
about in newspapers or see on the television news.

Start “glancing prayers.” Take a quick look at the discouraged man on the
street
and pray for him. Glance at the young mother with the crying baby in the
supermarket and pray for her and her child. Glance at the face of the person
who
pumps your gas and pray for him. Glance at the tired waitress and ask Jesus
to
sustain and bless her. We are constantly glancing a wide range of people for
many reasons, and it should become a trigger to bring them before the Lord.

This is a new way to “pray without ceasing.” As we pray in this way, we must
believe as Jesus taught us. When we believe, we know that our many prayers
will
not ricochet off the ceiling, but arrive at the Throne of God, where he
hears
and answers and moves in the lives of the people for whom we pray.

[JOYnet] Pray for us in retreat in Singapore

2002-08-24 Thread Thomas Mathew

Tell the nations what He has done Psalm.105.1 . When I landed in
Singapore to start our retreat, Psalm 105. 1, gave me assurance and
strength to proclaim my faith to the youth and the community in this
land.

Jesus appeared to his disciples and greeted them

Peace be with you John 20.21. This greeting from the Risen Lord was
powerful indeed to a struggling and fearful group of ordinary people who
were handpicked by Jesus and later apointed as his Aposles. The Apostles
were deeply touched , changed at this Heavenly greeting. Jesus gave them
Peace, the same message of Christmas. The angels of the Lord appeared to
the Shepherds who were among the outcasts, and sang to them Peace on
earth to those with whom he is pleased Lk 2. 14.

At the birth of Jesus and his post resurrection ministry with his
Apostles, the same message of Peace and repentence was emphasized.

Repentence is from Man and Salvatin is from God. Salvation is
peacefulenss with God. Heavenly peace is salvation. Heavenly peace is
God's presence. After greetings the disciples with peace, Jesus said to
them As the Father has sent me I send you John 20.21. Jesus assigned
the Apostles to preach repentence and forgiveness. Jesus gave them
authority to bind and to unfasten sins. Jesus said If you forgive
people's sins, they are forgiven; if you dont forgive they are not
forgiven John 20.23. Forgiving sins is reserved to God alone and that
power is now vested in the Church.

During the first day of our retreat at Singapore, we spoke about
previlage to be forgiven. Jesus forgave the sinners and granted them
healing. Jesus said to the paralyzed man

Your sins are forgiven. Lk.5.20. At this the Jewish people grew angry at
Jesus. But Jesus, to prove that he has the power to forgive sins, asked
the paralysed man to sand up and walk and he obeyed Jesus. Repentence is
in the sinner, initiated by God. The prodigal son repented and asked for
forgiveness from his father and his father forgave him without
conditions. The loving father said For this son of mine was dead ,but
now he is alive.. He was lost , but now he is found Lk. 15.24 and they
feasted. The joy of God over a repentent sinner is that of a jubilant
father who sees his dead son back alive.

Yesterday many people in Singapore washed themselves in the blood of the
lamb in the sacrament of Confession and they went home peacefully.
Repentence came from the sinners and Salvation reached out to them from
Heaven. It is like incarnation. God is present in

carne (in flesh) . God came down to the earth and lived with us in human
form, thus sanctifying the human nature. As we continue the retreat in
Singapore, Please keep me in your prayers so I could tell the nations
what He has done Psalm.105.1.

It was a warm and freindly welcome from the core group in Singapore.
Mr.Deccan, Mr. Glen and Mr.Tony met me at the Air port and it was fun to
recognize people who have never seen each other. Being in the company of
the youngsters is interesting. I feel young at heart and at the same
time, I could see how the youth love a Christ oriented life. They are
concerned about the lost sheep and they intensly pray for the people who
are lost and could be lost. They powerfully intercede in behalf of the
people who could be in the grip of Satan. I have heard them pray like
Jesus prayed

I do ask you to keep them from the evil one John 17.15. All through
the retreat for the elders, the youth in Singapore were on their knees
praying and interceding. Last night, I sat with Mr. Tony Kattoor his wife
Manju and Mr.Glen, (There are many more people who are actively involved
in the organization of the retreat in Singapore, like Mr. Piou! s, Mr
Andrew, Mr. Roy, Mr. Joshi, Ms. Asha, Ms.Rosmy, Ms K. Rani, Ms. Jasmi and
I remember them gratefully ) as they lifted the intentions the people
have left us with. The simplicity, the earnestnesss and above all the
faith of these young people to pray fervently, was amazing. I went to bed
with the peacefulness that Jesus is in command. What I need to do is just
say to the nations the amazing things God has done to me.

This gave me a new vision in preaching the retreat

. I will share with the group, how God peacefully and gently touched me
and keep assuring me in my struggle as a human person, with Biblical
backing and the wisdom deduced from the Jesus in History.

Praise the Lord.

God Bless

Re: [JOYnet] Pray for Priests

2002-05-16 Thread nelson abel

   Dear joy netters,
Edychettan’s article regarding the need of prayer for priests,
stirred my memories. May be I also felt a little heaviness in my heart same
as josun. Yes priests are the wonderful gift from god. Whenever I remember
our dearest palliyachan I used to thank god for his beautiful gift of priest
hood. There is no doubt that we should pray for them and love them so that
our prayers and love make them strong.
In my child hood I had very strong desire to become a priest. But god’s
plan was different and now I am a married man. I lost my father when I was 5
years old. So I don’t have too much memories of my father. But my mother
used to say that my parents had a great desire to make me a priest. One of
my childhood play was enacting the priest and saying the mass by collecting
my friends. When I was in second slandered my class teacher asked us that
what we like to going to become. I said I want to become a priest. Then she
was happy and she encouraged me. Even all my relatives and neighbors
believed that I would become a priest one day. But when I entered into
teenage I found the sexual urge with in me and realized that I am unworthy
to the holy priesthood. After my 10th std. My mother asked me whether I want
to join seminary, I said no and give the reason that I want to take the
responsibility of my mother and younger sister. Yes these are all my old
stories. After my marriage
I said to my wife that we must have 4-5 children and let us start the prayer
that some of our children
May become consecrated for god. God plans everything. We can only hope for.
Till now we are waiting for a child. We are sure in his time god will give
us children.
You know regarding the parents of little flower? St.Teresa’s father
martin was an ex- seminarian.
Her mother celine was also a convent return. Martin and Celine had a great
desire for religious life. But god’s decision was deferent. One of their
children becomes a great saint in the church. Same case is regarding
St.Francis of Assisi. His mother pica had a strong desire for religious
life. But her parent’s didn’t allow her for such a life and she happened to
be married to Bernardine, a merchant. But her son
Francis entered into religious life and still now he is giving inspiration
to thousands of people in the world. So let us pray that our Jesus youth
families be grow in holiness, so that not only it produce vocation but also
offer little saints for our church.
May god bless you all

RE: [JOYnet] Pray for Priests

2002-05-16 Thread Josh Folks

Hello!
When I read Eddy chettan's mail it was wake up call for me. Now I make a
point to pray for the priests. Ever since Josun put his feedback on this
issue I wanted to share my vies in this matter. But then I was a little
worried about it as it was a kind of confession I had to make.
But after reading Nelson's mail now I feel I should not keep it back. So
here is what I got to share in this discussion.

I think it was in 1997 when I came to Fujairah that I got a feeling that
Jesus was calling me to serve. By then as Josun and Nelson pointed out from
their lives I had got into the worldly desires and I reasoned myself that I
will not be able to be a good priest. So I ignored it. Then on a Friday this
uncle in the church who gives scripture readings came to me and asked if I
could do the first reading. I had never done it before but still agreed. I
remember the passage I got for reading. It was Isaiah chapter 6 verses 1-8

Isaiah 6
1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne,
high andexalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple.
2 Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered
their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were
flying.
3 And they were calling to one another: Holy, holy, holy is the LORD
Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.
4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the
temple was filled with smoke.
5 Woe to me! I cried. I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and
I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the
LORD Almighty.
6 Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which
he had takenwith tongs from the altar.
7   With it he touched my mouth and said, See, this has touched your lips;
your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.
8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? And who
will go for us? And I said, Here am I. Send me!
-

As I was reading it out to the congregation and it struck me again that the
Lord is calling me for his service, especially when I read the last line
Here am I. Send me. I ignored it again and ended up finally as a family
man. I am not sad about it but I got to tell you all that family life not
all that what you see from the outside, it is tough to live a good and Godly
married life with its benefits of being loved and raising up children.

I srongly feel that everyone of us should pray also for the youth who are
fighting between the call of the world and that of the Lord along with the
prayers for priests who got to fight the same battle. I still remember
vaguely the lines in some novena of prayer which went Lord protect your
calls of the young ( yuva janangalude dhaiva vili kaathukollane).

Regards and prayers
Abraham

2002-05-16 Thread Edward A. Edezhath

Hello friends,

I am following with great interest all your thoughts about 'Pray for Priests'.
A few of you wrote to me presonally and others to Joynet. Many of them are
really touching. Abraham mentions Nelson's mail but I did not see it. My
connection was down for a couple of days and may be I missed it.

I am also seeking the Lords will to see if we should do something in a more
organised way, and if so in what concrete ways. Share your thoughts in that
line also.

My diocese got into nasty trap early this week. Those of you who watch the
media in this area will remember the furore over the 'rain dance' and the TV
image of a priest walking around at the tourism promotion fete with a glass.
Afterwards I got invoved a little bit to help them sort out the mess, and I
said once again we have to PRAY FOR PRIESTS and that too very earnestly.

Dear brotherssisters in Christ,

I was really glad to read the message from Mr. Edward. In the past few months
I had also this strong call to Pray for the Priests.especially for our
Popehis intentions we should pray daily. We should love, respectpray for
all the priest all over the world. It would be a good idea if we choose a
particular day of the week so that we can form an intercessory group to pray
for this intention.I usually choose Saturday as my special day to pray for
this intention coz along with Mother Mary(Whoelse is the best intercessor?.
I would strongly advice all out there to read the book Merciful Love to

Hello Joynet Friends,

I am from Cochin, Kerala, India. These days I am mostly at my parents'
house
in the village, Kumbalanghi. The evenings are quite relaxed, with a long
dip
in the pond and sometimes a walk near the river side. At about 9pm I spend
quite some time in intercession. I pray for Jesus Youth all over,
especially
those with responsibilities in it and those who have asked for prayer. I
remember Joynetters and many faces in it and it goes on, International JY
conference in Canada, the Rex Band trip, etc are uppermost in my mind.

But one intention comes back to my mind again and again, that is, the need
for
urgent prayer for priests. The harvest is plentiful . . . . Pray the Lord
of
the harvest . . (Mt. 9: 37)

Let me share some of my thoughts so that a few of you readers may respond.

We have to pray for priests. Priesthood, I believe, is a wonderful
invention
of the Holy Spirit. I think of many great priests I know, some of them in
this
network, Joynet. Some Bishops are very close to my heart. I very well know
that one priest alive in Spirit is indeed a mighty force for the building
up
of the Kingdom. All over the world a great number of priests are doing this
wonderful work of God, and we have to pray for Priests. I do not pray for
these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word (Jn.
17:
20).

When I hear about failures in the life of some priest, I again say we have
to
pray for priests. They are called for a big mission and they have
responded.
They were set apart and were given support and training. But they are from
among us and need our support. While talking to a big group of priests two
weeks back, one of them was sharing from his heart, 'Sir, don't forget, we
are
human. We need your love and support'. We have to pray for priests.

I dream of a wide network of people who will love the Church, love the
priests
and earnestly pray for them. If two of you agree on earth about anything
they
ask . . . (Mt. 18:19). I can never do the wonderful amount of God's work
that
any single priest does. (Though sometimes some priests tell us that many of
us
Jesus Youth do much more than any of them, I believe that our effectiveness
comes from our sharing of the work of these priests.) Even if I cannot work
like a prist, I can surely have a share of the abundant graces of
priesthood
by loving and praying for priests. He who receives a prophet because he is
a
prophet shall recieve a prophet's reward. . . even a cup of cold water .
.
shall not lose his reward. (Mt. 10:41).

I don't have a complete idea, but we must have a network to specifically
PRAY
FOR PRIESTS. There has to be certain things that (i) each one in this
network
should do and (ii) certain things they do together as a body of
intercessors.

(i) Individually,

- Daily take time to remember priests with love and pray for them. = I
remember priests in general and then specifically think of the priests I
know
and life them to the Eternal Priest. And then I say a decade of the rosary
for
them.

- Love and respect priest. = I greatly value my relationship with priests.
It
is a great thing to know a priest. There is an age-old custom of kissing
the
hand of a priest. At times it is a little embarrassing, but I take great
joy
in kissing the hand of some of them.

- Try not to spread bad news about priesthood rather spread inspirational
tidings.

- Collaborate in whatever way possible with the good things that priests
are
doing.

and more . .

(ii) as a network called PRAY FOR PRIESTS,

would some of you like to give some ideas for me.

So, do pray for priests,

Eddy/Cochin/ India

2002-05-14 Thread Biji Thomas

Dear Friends,

Yes we should pray for the priests. It is our prayers that gives them strength
in their works. I would like to share something with my dear
joynetters.when i was studying for my first holy communion, Sr. Maggie who
taught us used to say that we should always pray for our Pope, Bishops,
Priests and Sisters and believe me knowinlgy or unknowingly i used to include
them in prayers after my communion till today. In my childhood days i
never knew much importance of this pray for the Priests.. but now i know the
importance of it.. how much valuable is this one small prayer for them. This
is a small prayer for priests from my prayer book which i would like to share
:

Keep them, I pray Thee, dearest Lord,
Keep them, for they are Thine -
Thy priest whose lives burn out before
Thy consecrated shrine.
Keep them for they are in the world
Though from the world apart,
When earthly pleasures tempt, allure -
Shelter them in Thy heart.
Keep them, confort them in hours
Of loneliness and pain
When all their life of sacrifice
For souls seem but in vain.
Keep them, and O remember Lord
They have no one but Thee
Yet they have only human hearts,
With human frailty.
Keep them spotless as the Host,
That daily, they caress -
Their every though and word and deed,
Deign, dearest Lord, to bless.

Yours in Jesus Christ

of the Holy Spirit.

Re: [JOYnet] Pray for Priests

2002-05-13 Thread Josun Jose

Dear friends,

I read eddy chettans mail and there's a heaviness I feel in my heart. I don'
t know why. I too share the same sentiments with regard to priests.

As I've mentioned umpteen times, I'm the eldest of 6 children. My family has
been thru a number of good struggles and tough times. We as a family have
been very close to priests, infact I remember when I was a kid, the Jesuits,
consolata fathers, and salesians we knew, used to vie telling me that I
would become a priest!. Even now, our priest friends bring saints stories,
rosaries, chocolates, little sacramentals here and there and give it to my
brothers and sisters.

I've got a large circle of priest friends too. I just love to hang around
with them. I spent a lot of time with them. I borrow infinite number of
books from them. I Just love talking to them and learning from them. When I
need guidance the first people I run to, after my parents are priests.

Even to this day people mistake me to be a seminarian. Many sisters, and
priests have inadvertently asked me Josun, are u a brother? and my reply
would be yes, I'm a brother of 5 mavericks and a potential father also!!.

Both my parents have a great love for priests and religious. I remember once
back my mother sharing with all of us:

After my parents got married, they planned to have a big family. Daddin and
mummy love children a lot. And from the time of their marriage both my
parents have been praying for a vocation to priest hood from our family. My
parents now have 4 sons and 2 daughters God only knows if any of the sons
will become priests.

I remember after my first holy communion my parents used to specially take
me for mass after my school, and with me in the middle of them both, my mom
used to whisper . my child, pray that God calls you to be a holy priest ok

Speaking from the human point of view, I don't think this dream of my
parents will be fulfilled in me. I'm still praying over my vocation, but now
my inclination is toward family life. I told this to my parents and I
noticed my moms face fall a bit. Then I told her, mummy please allow me to
live my life. please don't thrust your dreams into my life, just becoz u
want me to be a priest I won't become one ok

I told my parents about the very powerful sex drive that I've got and with
that, I don't think its possible to live an entire lifetime of celibacy. My
parents still hope that one of their sons will be called by the Lord to
Priesthood. Whatever it is, do pray that we do only the will of God ok.

Over the past 1 and a half years God has brought a holy priest across my
life, and with his guidance I've been able to direct my sex urge to more
productive and creative ways. These days by the grace of God, I don't lust
after every wayfaring girl I happen to see. I'm not aroused by the posters
and dirt that's out there in the world. These days God is helping me to live
a holy life. but even still there are times I gratify my lower passions..
But even at those times, I don't lust after any woman in particular.its only
out of that terrible feeling of loneliness.

I love to have a big family with a bunch of Kids around me and a woman by my
side to love and embrace and share my life with. I love to see children
grow and mature. I love to see myself maturing as a parent like my parents
still continue to do.

After reading eddy chettans mail I don't know my heart is feeling heavy. It
still is. Please pray for me.

I remember during one of Fr. George Kumblumootils retreat some years back
here in Delhi he told us about an incident that took place in kerala. Once
there was a certain meeting in which one of the bishops in Kerala was
attending. Little by little people started mud slinging and muck smearing on
the priests, saying see what this priest is doing, see what that priest is
doing etc. and the bishop just asked them. do you want holy priests? and
they all echoed in unison YES and the bishop continued coolly Live holy
lives and bring up holy children

Eddy chetta, count me in this initiative. I do pray for priests, now I'll do
it in a more organized manner.

I love priests a lot but i don't think i've got what it takes to become one.

Jesus Loves you all,

Josun Jose/New Delhi/India

But one intention comes back to my mind

Re: [JOYnet] Pray for Priests

2002-05-13 Thread sheril daniel

yes i think it is necessary that we should spend some time praying for christian
priests because they are meant to be the spiritual leaders for lay people and very
often the layman doesn't realise that they are also ordinary human beings. they are
ordinary ppl just like all of us, who have recieved the calling to lead different
lives with sometimes more responsibility than others. the power that is invested in
their lives makes them more accountable and gives them greater responsibility. so it
is up to us to pray for our leaders.

but i don't think that wrong doings of a priest should be covered up just to save
the image of a church or a particular denomination. action should be taken. i am not
condemning anyone and i am not saying that if a priest does wrong he should be
condemned. but it shold be made known. in the past this was not done so that is why
such incidences continued. i'm talking here, mainly about the child abuse that many
priests have been acused of. sexual child abuse. if this is covered up, who suffers?
maybe the church retains its image, but who suffers? the children. innocent children.
if such things are made public, and priests are punished in the same way as any human
being would be punished if they were caught of the same crime, such incidences would
definitely be curbed. like i said earlier, when saying this, i am not condemning
anyone. we are all human beings and capable of sin. but when david sinned, even though
he was so beloved in God's eyes and even though he was forgiven!
, he sufferd teh consequence did'nt he? his child born of sin died. God has given us
power but with it, responsiblity too. so if we don't act as responsible children, we
will suffer for it.

hence just as we pray for our families, friends etc, we should pray sincerely for the
leaders that God has chosen for his flock that they will be responsible leaders and
lead their lives according tot hte vocation they have chosen and the calling htey have
recieved. we should also be responsible toward ourselves and our children, and when
such incidences are knon, we should not try and hide it for the sake of our church.
the church should not be based on lies.

Dear JYs

Please keep Welchy in your Prayers. Today, 25th April at 11.30am she has an
important Meeting with her boss which is very important with regards to her
future in the Company. Her boss has promised her a lot of things. However
till now nothing has yet been done. Hence she plans to clear a lot of things
at this Meeting. Do Keep her in your prayers as she is really looking
forward to this Meeting.

Also do pray for her computer situation in her office as recently most of
her Office Computers had crashed cause of virus and the blame almost came on
her. As a result for the past few days she is unable to receive and read any
JY mails or check her email acct.

DEAR JYs INSTEAD OF ME MAKING A SUMMARY OF VARIOUS PRAYER REQUESTS, I AM
POSTING 3 PRAYER REQUESTS (in original) BY THESE WOMEN IN FAITH FOR THEIR
HUSBANDS.

===

BEFORE U READ THIS PLEASE PRAY FOR THE AYODHYA TENSION

I would like to request prayer for my husband Don. He was diagnosed with lung
and heart problems and was told he would never get better and did not have
much time to live. I have spent a year requesting prayers and praying
endlessly. As well as giving him every vitamin, herb and mineral to make him
well. He should never be sick, but he is and it is not getting better. I love
my husband and want to spend my life together with him until the Lord calls us
to Heaven. Please help me pray for a total miracle healing. The stress over
this is causing my blood pressure to sore. I need a miracle and I need to hear
the doctors tell me there has been a miracle. He was diagnosed with silicosis
in his lungs which has weakened his heart. He was a sandblaster and they took
him from there and put him in the carpenter shop where he is now breathing saw
dust. We need a miracle. We need our life back. Thank you, Nancy

Dear Friends in Christ, You have prayed for me and my husband Mark, who have
been married almost 25 years but separated since last July when he left our
home to be with someone eles. It's been a very hard year, but one of growth in
my Lord Jesus Christ. I believe in miracles because God write's it in his
word. ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH CHRIST! My husband has gone hunting with
two old friends, both Christians, and one is a pastor. Please pray this week
that the Lord would open his heart and renew his walk with the Lord and then
restore our marrage, as I have been faithful to Love him as Christ has loved
me. Mark is a Christian, but stepped off the path following Jesus, He needs to
find his way back. God is always waiting to receive if we are willing to ask.
Your prayers are very appreciated, I can't begin to tell you how the Lord has
worked since July 01. You never would have thought I would still be married.
But God has his own plans, (praise the Lord). Now I'm just waiting for his
miracles to take place. Thank you for your prayers, May God bless each of you,
and never give up hope or your faith. Believing in Miracles

[JOYnet] Pray pls

2002-02-10 Thread Rosemary Thomas

HI, Everyone,
I had sent a prayer request about a little girl (Kiana) who was going thru eye
surgery. She is still having it. This is the reply of her mother (Mandy). They are in
the US. Pls keep praying.
Rosemary
(Goa)

Rosemary,
Thank you for pryaing for Kiana, I believe that God is watching over
her and that there is some meaning behind all that she has been through. Though at
times I admit, I have questioned them.
Kiana will undergo surgery again on Tuesday morning. At this stage
the Op is at a loss to what he going to do but, feels that it is detrimental to her
eyes wellbeing that he do something. I am very nervous as we approach Tuesday but, am
trying to stay positive. Physically Kiana seems to be doing ok, except for a great
deal of eye pain that we are treating with Codeine. Emotionally though she is
struggling. We have had to accompany her to school and stay with her for the last week
and a half as she is very unsure of things. The fact that she has so little vision now
is really sapping at her confidence. Kiana though is a very strong little girl and I
am sure that we just have to take it one step at a time and she will be fine. We are
calling in a social worker to work with Kiana in hope that she can release any
feelings that she might have. Perhaps she does have more questions or just wants to
have a scream and is worried that it will upset her father and I. H!
opefully this will work a little bit of a miracle.
Thank you again for your prayers they are so greatly appreciated. By
the way my name is Mandy.
Love and best wishes Mandy(mummy to Kiana-5)

[JOYnet] Pray without Ceasing

2002-01-13 Thread Berly Earnest

Dear friends,
Even though people here have stopped talking about it,here's my small note
on 'Praying without ceasing'.
We can pray in tongues without ceasing. When we sleep off while praying in
tongues,we do find ourselves continuing the moment we wake up-only to show
that even when we are asleep,it continues;the Holy Spirit continues to pray
though we are not aware of it.And praying in tongues is something we can do
anytime.
The best thing I like about it is when we pray in tongues, the most urgent
and most important things are taken care of.The Spirit of God who knows the
mind of God knows best what are most urgent and most important. It may be
some flaw in your character or it could even be that some person you don't
even know is about to meet with an accident!

[JOYnet] PRAY FOR US

2001-12-27 Thread FR. THOMAS THARAYIL

Dear Loving Friends all over,
Hope you all ahd a very blessed and spirit filled Christmas. Let us continue to
grow in that spirit.
I like to request your valuable prayers for the annual year end (evaluation and
planning) program for the Jesus Youth of America. The first line leadership (mostly in
the North East region) will come together for prayer, reflection, evaluation,
discernment, planning etc. from the 28th evening to 30th evening. Certain very serious
decisions are to be made and strategies to be formed. So I request you all to keep
this program in your prayers from now on till it is over. May God bless you all.
With Love and Prayers,
Fr. Thomas Tharayil
Teaneck,NJ,USAhose participating. It shows the lack of seriousness and priority that
we give to our call. It was announced so early that, had we tried, we all could
attend. Please think: am I not attending this program for a real serious reason, or
could I make it if I sacrifice a little. Think before the Lord and decide. Time is not
over. You could still walk in.
To all; please pray for this formation program, which is going to be a very
serious one in the light of the future of JY of America. Especially all those not
attending, should make a special effort to dedicate at least one hour in serious
prayer for the program at any time and place convenient for you.
The program will be in Hershey (Dr.Manoj's residence). We will be prayerfully
discussing and trying to discern the will of God for us as a fellowship for the next
year, and the years to come. So please take it serious and pray earnestly. All those
who can and feel called by the Lord, please try to make it even though at the last
moment. OK
With Love and Prayers,
Fr. Thomas Tharayil
Teaneck, NJ,USA

[JOYnet] Pray for this Aunty!

2001-11-28 Thread Monisha Rebello

Dear All!

Greetings in Christ!

Yday evening I and my colleague attended the Jesus the Real Vine (JTRV) praise and
worship meeting. It was wonderful. When it got over, we parted ways as my colleague
had to take another route. As i walked towards the bus stop, I heard voices of 3
ladies behind me asking me if I was alone and going towards the station. They asked me
to accompany a friend of theirs who had come for the meeting for the first time and
was new to that area. I said fine, I would direct her to the station as I too was
going the same way.

We got into the bus and this Aunty herself paid for my ticket. She was very disturbed
and she attends many prayer meetings. She said her name is Jacintha Amir Khan and we
started talking. She told me that she was suffering for the past 25 years. She said
she had spoken to Sister Hazel (who conducts the praise and worship at JTRV) but
couldn't open up much to her and was being led to talk to me. i just prayed to the
Holy Spirit to speak thru me to this lady to help and comfort her. She said she needed
prayers for herself and her family. She is married to a Muslim and has 3 grown up
children, who have been baptized. Sophia - 25 yrs (has a boyfriend since 8 yrs but are
not getting married. Sophia used to be very religious but has turned away from God
now. She is under some evil spell and needs healing from evil bondages/spirits and
generational curses) Her other 18 yr old daughter Shirin too is under these same
bondages. And her youngest son Amin - 16 yrs - can't concentrate on!
his studies. She said that all this is due to her sister-in-law (Fehmida Masood Khan)
who indulges in these evil practices. She had brought a 'Muslim baba' to this Aunty's
place and after that all such problems have been happening.

This aunty also has Fibroid problems. The doctors cannot diagonize it though and at
yday's prayer meeting, Brother Derick said that one person was being healed of Fibroid
problems..This Aunty told me about it and I told her to claim that healing for
herself. She kept saying, for so many yrs, i'm under these bondages and am suffering. i
told her from today to believe in Jesus and not to confess negative things. i told her
to say and repeat that Jesus has set her and her family free from today. She said that
and she felt good.

She asked me to send in these prayer requests for herself and her family. And i just
humbly request you all to pray for this lady and her family, who belong to God's
kingdom but satan has taken captive. Jesus will set them free!

May God work in their lives and be glorified! Amen.

Thank u and God bless!

[JOYnet] PRAY FOR KAIROS-2001

2001-06-30 Thread FR. THOMAS THARAYIL

Dear Friends all over the world,
This is Fr. Thomas Tharayil from USA. Hope you are all fine. I write this to
request your valuable prayers in a special way for the up coming National Family
Conference of the leaders in Indian American Catholic Charismatic Renewal.
Kairos-2001, as it is named, is a conference where all those who are
actively involved in the Charismatic movement among the Malayalees in America come
together to pray, study, share and strengthen the fellowship. This year we are having
it at Malvern Retreat Center in Pennsylvania, from July 5th to 8th.
These conferences are also an effort to unify and coordinate the renewal
activities among our people in America, and consequently there are much difficulties
also. Therefore I would like to request you all to pray in a very special way for the
conference that the Spirit of God may work effectively and the conference may be a
great success as He wants it to be. Will let you know more of Kairos as it gets over.
Thankfully,
Fr.Thomas Tharayil
