KR Enthusiasts;

I am planning to make a pitch at the 2016 KR Gathering to host the 2017

they can attend this year's Gathering.

I have put together a Power Point Presentation which can be downloaded with

today I'm compelled to talk about something I know a little about.
Throughout the last couple of years i've seen a few individuals lob some subtle
and often less than subtle suggestions that Steve Glover has indulged in some
impropriety.?? One such comment is the folowing..
"Hopefully there will be a full accounting to close those Gathering books"

I'm hoping that comments like these are simply an abrupt choice of words and
that they does not translate into? Steve Glover (who organized the 2014
Gathering) having to deal with yet another layer of popular misunderstandings.

I'm almost positive that Steve Glover will NOT give a "FULL" accounting of the
expenses for last year's gathering.? I'm sure that he won't bother anyone by
commenting about the the numerous days he took off to get the 2014 KR Gathering
locked in, the amount of $$ he spent out of pocket for the guys he had to pay
to clean and arranged a production hangar for the worshops.? and out of

seemless, one might not know the amount of time and effort it took to deal?
with the administration at the airport, discussions with insurance companies,
the coordination of the cadre of volunteers and contributors that he had to

people don't know that he has invested several thousands of dollars into a
business (perhaps $75K or more) that keeps premade KR Parts available at a
significant loss to him personally year after year. I can see Steve's
frustration building year after year as some of these posts add insult to the
financial injury.

For those of you who have been swayed with a question about his character, I've
seen Steve almost every weekend for the last 4 years during which time he's
taught me to build aircraft. In the 4 years I've known him, I have not

I typically maintain a low profile on the net and simply listen and learn
but today I'm compelled to talk about something I know a little about.
Throughout the last couple of years i've seen a few individuals lob some
subtle and often less than subtle suggestions that Steve Glover has indulged
in some impropriety. One such comment is the folowing..
"Hopefully there will be a full accounting to close those Gathering
books"

I'm hoping that comments like these are simply an abrupt choice of words and
that they does not translate into Steve Glover (who organized the 2014
Gathering) having to deal with yet another layer of popular
misunderstandings.

I'm almost positive that Steve Glover will NOT give a "FULL" accounting of
the expenses for last year's gathering. I'm sure that he won't bother
anyone by commenting about the the numerous days he took off to get the 2014
KR Gathering locked in, the amount of $$ he spent out of pocket for the guys
he had to pay to clean and arranged a production hangar for the
worshops. and out of sheer consideration for attendees the
constructions and installation of a new toilet (for older folk) and sinks,
the siding so that the hangar would look presentable and functional for
people, the renting and purchase of amenities like the Public Address
system, chairs and tables, the loss he took purchasing items to make sure
the workshops were useful to people, the gasoline from driving around to get
things done.Because the 2014 gathering appeared seemless, one might not
know the amount of time and effort it took to deal with the administration
at the airport, discussions with insurance companies, the coordination of
the cadre of volunteers and contributors that he had to convince. I'm
certain there's alot more that did that does not come to mind at the
moment.
I often see a posts that suggest that he is running a KR business that is
non responsive and have even seen the suggestion of fiduciary impropriety.
Many people don't know that he has invested several thousands of dollars
into a business (perhaps $75K or more) that keeps premade KR Parts available
at a significant loss to him personally year after year. I can see Steve's
frustration building year after year as some of these posts add insult to
the financial injury.

For those of you who have been swayed with a question about his character,
I've seen Steve almost every weekend for the last 4 years during which time
he's taught me to build aircraft. In the 4 years I've known him, I have not
witnessed even ONE incidence where Steve has indulged in any monetary
discrepancies. People never find out about the finicky buyers that cost him
fees after rescinding their orders due to the unfounded comments and ideas
transmitted through emails and such. Moreover, the last couple of years I've
witnessed people's expressed anxieties about plans and parts on the KRnet.
Most of the time the delays were caused by things that were not under his
control. I wont bore anyone with details but consider this Steve Glover
has made a great contribution to the KR Community 75% of the time at his
own expense as there is little financial gain in the KR parts business
and almost all of the time there is negative financial gain. Every month,
year after year, despite the cyber wallops lobbed at him, he keeps the
availability of pre made parts, kits and innovations for the KR coming.

Once again, I'm not interested in stirring up a discussion about this... My
comment is for the purpose of precluding a discussion about people's
anxieties as I personally witness the weekly operations at the NVaero
Hangar.

I also want to tip my hat to those individuals who assemble these
gatherings as I've witnessed that it is a Herculean effort.

I felt it necessary to put the info on the net because of the
situation it created. In spite of Steve's comment "Your "situation"
is a joke and created by certain persons with their own agenda", his
procrastination left Dan and John with no idea what funds they had to
work with until shortly before the Gathering. It left people
thinking we were short of funds and generated discussions at the
Gathering about incorporating, having elected officers, people
feeling obligated to donate additional funds, etc. I don't consider
that "situation" to be a joke and felt everyone concerned needed to
know the facts so we could make some rational decisions concerning
future Gatherings.

And yes, at this point, if there are any future communications, they
can be handled off line. As a member of the steering committee, I
hope to have open, honest, and timely communication for future Gatherings.

I informed you early in the year that the funds were available any
time you determined how much you needed. You requested them on
7/12/2014 at 2:22PM. I informed you two hours later (4:11PM) that
the check would be in the mail that weekend or on Monday. You could
have had the funds in March if you had requested them. It's my
understanding that the same communications did not take place between
you and Dan and that a check showed up just weeks before this years
Gathering. Waiting nearly a year to do a report of $4000 of
Gathering funds and mailing the check (as stated above) , seems less
than responsible. I'm certainly not critical of you coming up a bit
short, it happens year to year. My primary concern was your lack of
communication with the host of this years Gathering. The situation
created has the KR community jumping through hoops suggesting
solutions to problems I really don't think the group has. A bit of
organizing and a healthy dose of responsibility is all that is needed, IMHO.

I regret having to call you out on the handling and reporting of the
Gathering funds but a more responsible approach on your part to that
responsibility would have avoided it ever becoming an issue. I had
hoped that you would have handled the situation in a more mature
manner, especially when communicating with a group you hope to do
business with, but I have no control with that. If I am wrong with
any of the facts I have stated, please advise and I will publicly
apologize to you and to the group. Until then I stand by my post.

Whatever makes you happy Larry. I left a phone message and email for contact
but didn't get a response so was initially going to send it to Mark L. Ask him
if you like. I found John's address so sent it to him as I had no follow up
contact if there was any concern. He had it approx 30 days before the
gathering. I've already stated it could have been done sooner but I just
didn't. It sat in the same lock box since the last gathering and until I could
finish the last couple orders, "which I still have three hats that I paid for
and not the gathering fund". Your "situation" is a joke and created by certain
persons with their own agenda. I had spoken to Mark on several occasions about
the fund and it certainly was not in question as to if it would be sent that I
am aware of. I mentioned to him more than once about trying to get a chance to
finish it up. I did have to locate some receipts that were left in the hangar.

I'm really not too broken up with your opinion of my maturity or
responsibility.

KR> KR Gathering

2015-09-10 Thread Dan Prichard
I want to put everyone at ease. I'm not out of pocket on any thing concerning
the gathering. I did use my money along with the funds sent by Larry to keep
the gathering machine moving forward. I never felt at risk or uneasy about the
funds and I was confident the good KR folks would cover the expenses. Donations
are still coming and Im confident that all the monies sent by Larry and Steve
will be returned to the gathering fund. I didn't even know there was a fund
when I volunteered to host this year. It's all working out just fine. Thanks
for your support.

I had hoped that a lot of these posts with ideas and opinions for
future Gatherings would have been posted to Mark Langford's e-mail,
as I had requested in an earlier post, to be considered by the
Steering Committee.

As host of 9 of the last 12 Gatherings, I'll give my insight to
hosting a Gathering, stated factually and bluntly. Had the Gathering
funds from 2014 been forwarded in a timely manner, Dan should not
have had any out of pocket expenses. I forwarded the remaining $1000
in the Gathering fund to Dan earlier this year and, shortly before
this years Gathering, he received $3,300 from last years Gathering.
For the 2014 Gathering, I had forwarded $4000 to Steve as soon as he
requested it with an amount he felt he needed. 2014 Gathering funds
should have been available months ago. In my opinion, it is not
unreasonable to require a full accounting of funds within 30 to 45
days following the Gathering. With that being said, $4000 to $5000
should be quite adequate up front to host a Gathering. If it's not
then we need to do something different. It is not my intent to cast
aspersions on anyone but to present the facts so we can make good
decisions. With that behind us, lets move forward with good will and
keep the Gathering a fun event that we can all look forward to attending.

Prior to the 2004 Gathering, my first to host, I received $1800 from
Steve and Linda Bennett. By initiating a "pre-registration" site, I
was able to know how many shirts/hats, with shirt sizes, to order and
the approximate number planning to attend the Gathering
banquet. Hats, shirts, banquet deposit (if required) and awards are
the biggest expenses to consider. Anyone considering hosting should
have an adequate facility with management that welcomes our group
without rental / fee demands. Any rental / fee demands should be
extremely minimal or find another location. Do in large part to the
generosity of the KR attendees, we were able to build the fund to
$5000 during the Mt.Vernon years without having to charge up front
registration fees, etc.. Passing the hat at the banquet was a
tradition that continued to support our efforts. You may have
noticed there was never an accounting of income/expenses for the 2010
Gathering in Richmond , Kentucky, hosted by Dana Overall, but Dana
returned to me, nearly dollar for dollar, the $5000 I forwarded to
him. That's all I can say on that matter.

Before we move to set up Pay Pal accounts, consider legally
incorporating the group, or other actions, let's see how the
finances shake out this year and move forward making sound decisions
based on the "real" needs of the group.

Anyone considering hosting a Gathering may contact me
at flesner at frontier.com or (cell) 618 201 5958 and I will share a
list of , in my opinion, things you need to consider and needs you
need to fill.

All opinions and suggestions are welcome at " ML at N56ML.com " with
subject line " 2016 Gathering".

2015-09-10 Thread Steve G.
Dan receive the funds in the same timeframe that I received it from you last
year. I didn't receive the funds or ask for them for that matter until August
of last year which is when the funds were actually needed to pay for items so
if Dan is saying otherwise then that's his deal and frankly I really don't
care. Could I have sent them along sooner, probably so if I would've done the
final breakdown sooner. Did it have any affect on the items needed for the
gathering? No. And as far as John's comment about "full accounting of the
gathering funds", he can kiss my ass. The previous year at Mount Vernon lost
money and most items there are donated so I'm really not interested in anybody
crying about why we lost money. The breakdown is on the gathering.com website.

It's the difference between $700 for fuel or $400 for tickets, two
partial days travel instead of 4 or 5, and for some, like me that
are "sorta" still employed "sometimes" it's less "no pay" days at
work. It would be a lot more run and exciting to make the trip in
the KR though. I hope the flyers living close bring their KR to
drool over. I'm guessing Jeff Scott will get the "greatest distance
flown" award as Langford might as well have tossed out the
possibility like excess ballast right before he planted his in the
bean field. :-( I'm packed and leaving at 6:00 am tomorrow morning.

Looking forward to seeing everyone whether you travel by KR, airlines or
car. We've broken out of the hot days & should be in the low-mid 70s with
good VFR forecast.
Just finished fixing a few squawks and now it's time to put the Langford

KR> KR Gathering

2015-09-02 Thread laser147 at juno.com
Hey KR people. Everything I'm reading about arriving at the Gathering
has to do with the airlines. What kind of Gathering is it when everyone
is flying to it in damn airliners??? Might as well be talking about a
convention of people attending a polar bear conference. Is anybody
(besides me) actually going to fly their planes there?

Re the MSD crimpers, will the Taylor crimpers for 8.2 wires work? I can
bring mine. Do you need them in McMinnville?

Also, regarding my new Taylor 40 Ohm wires, I'm getting a lot of radio
noise on the carrier which I wasn't getting before so the "no noise"
feature of the Taylors isn't working. I can fix this by going around the
radio ground directly to the battery but just thought I ought to correct
my initial impression. They HAVE fixed the missing on my secondary
ignition. The coils are getting old and the low resistance wires are
making life easier on them. No missing anymore. Not happy with the
radio noise though. It's still usable, just not as quiet as before.

All, Dan Heath brought up a good point yesterday about keeping the hotel
group together. I recommend the Motel 6 & Guest House Vineyard Inn. They
share the same parking lot and are a direct shot to the airport. The
Vineyard Inn has offered us the Govt rate which will range from $70-100 per
night depending on how many use the room. When you call ask for Katey and
tell her you want the government rate. They currently have 31 rooms
available. The motel 6 has not gotten back to me yet but their rates are
already low.

KR> KR Gathering video

2015-03-11 Thread James McGauhey
Mark and others,

I'd be happy to video the workshop, and other events at the gathering. That
is if I attend. It's on my calendar now, but I'll also be doing the Hood
River Fly-In the next weekend, also in Oregon. My Social Director may have
other plans for me when we get closer to these dates.

I haven't decided whether to drive or fly from AWO. It's a short flight,
but I usually use 2 to 4 cameras and lots of tripods, lights, and other
"stuff." By myself it will all fit in my C172, but if another person comes
along.. And I like to share these events with others. Plus there's
camping gear if I don't hotel it.

If I'm doing an "official" video I'll use multiple cameras, but if just a
spectator or participant, I'll use just one. Something like your workshop
it would be good to use more than one camera so there's close-ups of the
hands-on stuff.

Posted before, so some of you have seen this.
Here's one example of using just one camera - at last year's Hood River
Fly-In:
https://vimeo.com/107101162

Here's a short example of using multiple cameras at a high school concert;
Emma has a great voice:
http://youtu.be/5P6WQZiHLC
This is more like the setup I would use for a workshop.

The only issue is editing takes 40 to 100 hrs for any major event (2 to 5
hrs per minute of finished video). As I'm still working and being the guy
around the house, with a teen foster kid in high school, that can take a
while to publish.

And I don't mean to hog in here. If there's anyone else who'd rather video,
I'm super happy to just watch the show and learn.

Ok, it seems that copy and paste is not working. I have had offers of
fixing the submit button on the page to send me the info. I found that the

Thanks for your patience while I muddle through this.

Does that mean you are willing to put it together Lee? ?I can help with some of

FWIW, you guys don't travel enough in your KRs. ?Last year it took me 10 hrs
flight time from Greenvile, SC to North Central NM. ?That's headed west bucking
the prevailing winds. ?These KR time machines make pretty short work of getting

I was flying back from breakfast Saturday morning. I air I did a Magneto
check in air and the left Mag was running rough. No problem, right side was
still fine so I made it back to my airport with no issues. I did the usual
checks, replaced a couple spark plugs, looked for loose wiring etc.
Rechecked all a couple times but to no avail, my Bendix Dual Magneto needs to

I will still attend the gathering, but won't be flying in now, big
disappointment. See everyone next Friday. Since I'm not flying I'll bring some

KR enthusiasts,

The site that hosts www.krgathering.org will be getting a network upgrade
this evening at Midnight EDT. As part of the upgrade, the ip address of the
site will change. The upgrade should take fifteen minutes. Depending on
your local DNS server caching, you could experience an outage from a few
minutes to two hours. Sorry for any inconvevnience this might yield.

Awesome Video. Makes me really home sick for the rest of the KR family. It was
great to see many old friends on the video. I'm sorry I couldn't make it.

I will commit now that I intend to be there next year. My KR is scheduled to
once again go through another metamorphesis between now and next year's
gathering, but should be ready for show and tell again by then. OK Jones, only
39 more KRs to get to commit to Next year's Gathering.

I am also considering trying to make Oshkosh next year, but if I do, it's

KRnetHeads,

We talked about having a "race" Saturday morning at the Gathering, weather
permitting. Jeff Lange worked out the details for us a few years ago, and
they're posted at
http://www.krnet.org/misc/KRGatheringPerformance.pdf . It's not called a
race because you don't have to run wide open if you don't want to, although
some folks will want to. This allows you to gauge your progress in
streamlining or sharpening piloting skills in order to improve performance
from one year to the next. Planes depart the starting line in order of
expected finish time, so the gaps between planes should grow throughout the
short run, enhancing safety. I think everybody who's done it has enjoyed
the experience, and I'm looking forward to it again this year.

Anyway, if you want to run it this year, the plan is 9AM Saturday morning.
Please print this out and bring it with you so you'll have the details
already in-hand.

Gathering attendees,

Just 46 days left till the Gathering and time to start getting all
the ducks in a row. I have the awards picked out, designed, and
purchased. The shirts this year will be maroon button up dress
shirts with pocket and button down collars. Really nice shirts. I'm
in the process of getting new art work done for the embroidery on the
hats and shirts. I'm getting tired of using the old KR without
landing gear that has been used for the past 10 years or so. I'm
working out details with the airport restaurant owner on the banquet
and with the airport manager, Chris Collins, to work out his support
for the event. Chris is extremely busy planning for two events that
take place just weeks before our event. One is the rotor craft
fly-in and the second is the national light sport event. Chris has a
very busy schedule but he, the restaurant employees, the FBO
personnel, and everyone at Mt.Vernon is looking forward to the
event. The KR group has made a 5 star impression on them and they
are looking forward to our return.

Now for some details. Several of you have volunteered to help out
where possible. Here are some of my needs.

I need three volunteers to be judges for the awards. Just show
up. I will have the needed forms if you care to use them.

I plan to have at least two forums, one on engines and one on
airframes. I will be asking several of the more knowledgeable
builders to lead these forums. Several others have expressed
interest in doing a forum or demo on building techniques and / or
equipment such as fuel mixture meters. If so, please contact me off
net ( fles...@frontier.com ). Please provide all the necessary
materials and equipment if you wish to provide one of these events
and I will work them in to the schedule.

Hats and shirts: I'm 6'4" and weight 200 pounds. A size large fits
me just fine. Use that for a guide when ordering. If you feel you
need a different size than you ordered on your pre-registration, wish
to cancel or increase your order, contact me off net (
fles...@frontier.com) and I'll make the necessary changes. Prices
this year will be $23 for the shirt and $12 for the hat. I may have
to charge an extra $2 or $3 for the 2XX and 3XX if they are
available. I'll know soon. I hope to have photos of the hats and
shirts on the Gathering web page ( www.krgathering.org ) in the next
week or so. I will have a few extras, over and above the pre-orders,
but not many due to cost so if you really want one, pre-register and
order. These are not souvenir Tee shirts, they are nice dress shirts
with embroidery. Order cutoff will happen approximately two weeks
prior to the Gathering.

Camping on the airport is available again this year with a shower and
bath in the FBO. Also, the airport has erected a new 11,800 square
foot hang this past year and I'm told it has a shower facility
also. It just keep getting better. :-)

Three meals a day should be available at the airport restaurant and I
encourage you to eat as many there as possible . Donnie is holding
the banquet cost as low as possible and hopes to recoup some on the
rest of the event. As I stated earlier, the entire restaurant crew
is looking forward to our return.

That's all that comes to mind at the moment. I remember now why I
felt I needed a break after hosting the Gathering for a six year run.
:-) Please check the Gathering web page often between now and the
event for updates.

If you have questions, please shoot me an e-mail. See you at the
Gathering..

KR> KR Gathering Video?

2011-03-29 Thread Bob Vermeulen
Hey gang,

I see Larry Flesner asking about me in his last post. I figured I had
better give everyone an update. I'm still standing on the green side of
earth. A lot has happened in the past year since the heart attack and
stroke. I've sold both of my planes and my Bridgeport. Most of my
tools have been sold and I've really cut back on the things that I do.
After the stroke, I was mostly blind. Some of my sight has come back,
but I'll probably never be able to drive or fly again. I always tell my
"doc", I can see everything but I can't see anything. Funny, but when I
look straight ahead, everything is in view, but my brain crosses it up.
Try walking around with your eyes crossed. That's kinda what it's
like. I don't look for pity, just understanding. The next time I see
you, I may be looking straight at you, but may not see you. I still
get the Digest everyday and reading it takes a little longer than it
once did, but I look forward to it and love to follow the progress of
everybody. Last Sunday I met with Terry ( one of my camera operators/
partners) and we got to talking about the "Gathering" I told him it
was going to be back at Mt. Vernon again this year and it sounded good
to him. If we can, we are going to try to be there this year. We
probably wouldn't shoot video, but we sure would like to see everyone
again. The "Gathering" is a great event. If you've ever been to one,
you know what I mean. If you haven't, you need to go. Well worth it!!

Well that's about all there is to report. Thanks to all you guys that
have sent me kind notes and thoughts. I hope to see you at Mt. Vernon.

Gang, as I mentioned very early on in the process, the World Equestrian Games
are coming to Lexington...and I encourage anyone who wants to bug out for a
couple of hours to check out the thoroughbred horse farms to do so, the room
rates in this area are in the range of $300 per night so let's take what we
have, and really if you want to see a world class event...as in much bigger in
the world's eyes than the Super Bowl, take in some of the horse events during
the gathering times.  We are not in podunk, KY;-)  The houses in my area are
renting out for around 3K for the week.anyone else want to host
the gathering so I rent this place out and go on vacation;-).  Hey, we have an
inexpensive deal going on...come on spend an extra $15 bucks and have some fun
and the gathering!!!

Looking big time forward to see old friends and pending new ones, there is
nothing like the KR Gathering for getting up close to these great airplanes!!

The actual start date is the following week, there are no TFR's. Most of the
local airports received substantial federal monies for upgrades to facilities
and runways, kinda a facelift for the million plus people that are expected to
arrive in, and around, LEX for the event. I39 just got it's new parallel
taxiway completed and is putting off the addition of 500' and repaving the
entire runway until after the event. The only restriction to flying is the
army base to the east of I75, not a no fly zone you just don't want to buzz the
place. The airport is out in the boonies so we can play about as much as we
want, especially to the west and south. I'll have a pilot meeting probably on
Friday.

As for something to do, if someone want to, would be to do a bourbon trial
search on google for in and around Lexington Ky. The heart of bourbon country
takes you through some of the most beautiful horse farm country you will ever
see. It is still beautiful to see for me, and I've lived here all my life!!
