Look near the end of your /etc/syslog.conf -- is there something like these? *.emerg * *.err |/dev/console I'm not familiar with Eigerstein, so I don't know what the installed default it; but, on Dachstein the default is the *.emerg line. Everybody has tap danced around your original question for a reason; but, nobody has come out and explained it to you. Consider this: May 19 11:09:32 trout kernel: martian source c521fea9 for fea9, dev eth1 May 19 11:09:32 trout kernel: ll header: ff ff ff ff ff ff 00 01 03 79 6c a9 08 00 May 19 11:09:36 trout kernel: NET: 6 messages suppressed. The 'NET ... suppressed' message is symptomatic of some other problem. Please, re-read my last sentence. In my example, above, the *real* problem is an influx of `martians' and `ll headers' messages. Sometimes, when the there is a flood of messages through syslogd, it recognizes that repetition and consolidates repeated messages, like this: May 19 21:34:51 trout last message repeated 3 times Can you imagine how many more messages you'd be dealing with, if it actually logged every one, instead of this consolidation? Imagine if that number `3' was actually `300' ;< In your case, the kernel itself recognizes the repetition and consolidates repeated messages. For the hardware I had good luck with Eicon's Diva Server boards, although I only used them under NT. Two 4BRI PCI cards would give you 16 B channels. The following message describes some linux specific driver issues: http://groups.google.com/groups?q=eicon+4bri+linux&hl=nl&lr=&ie= UTF8&oe=UTF8&selm=94mmpl%24cpa%241%40news.connect- x.de&rnum=5 A new driver with binaries for kernel 2.4.18 seems to be avalible "real soon now". Alternatively an open source driver is availible, which would require rolling your own kernel. groeten, Sjaak > > But, my question is other today : > One of my friends want to have 15/20 ISDN lines/modems to connect > externals employees to his company's mail server. Omar, We're not trying to be difficult. We just need some additional information from you. The first bit that would help is "uname -a". This will tell us which branch/release you're using. The second bit is verification that you're using a null modem/laplink serial cable. A standard cable will not work. Last but not least, please paste in-line the contents of all files you modified in your attempt to get serial console to work. With this information we should be able to help you. Re: [leaf-user] A NET question
Hey, guess what? I'm new to this whole LRP thing, I've been really trying to follow protocol in seeking help with these hiccups. My apologies if my descriptions are not a "distinct" and "exact" as you would like them to be. I am really just grasping at straws, I now see that this probably isn't necessarily the right place to seek help because I am a newbie, so I feel confident that if I keep at it I'll get it worked out somehow on my own. You Linux techies just keep doing your thing, when I get more buffed with this maybe then I'll come back to the list if needs be. Just for the record I have checked and tried every instruction/documentation I could find related to this issue, checked the capabilities against my LRP distro and done tests on my cable. Don't worry about it tho' I'll get it. - Original Message - From: "Ray Olszewski" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Omar D. RE: [leaf-user] IPsec client for windows (free)
Have a look at SSH Sentinel (ssh.com). My understanding is that personal use is free, but you should read the fine print to be sure. It's know as a solid IPSec client for windows and works well with FreeS/WAN. Re: [leaf-user] A NET question
The documents that Mike referred you to do discuss cable issues, though perhaps briefly enough that you missed it when you read them. To connect 2 computers, you need either a null-modem cable or a regular cable with a null-modem adapter ... this is not a LEAF or even a Linux issue, but a standard bit of PC hardware lore. Unless you are interested in building your own cable, there isn't much point in including diagrams or pictures; you get the right cable or adapter by reading the labels on the packages at the store. If you do want to build your own cable, I'm sure a Google search will direct you to any of the many hardware sites that discuss how to do this. At 10:15 AM 5/21/02 -0500, Omar D. RE: [leaf-user] A NET question
Serial support has been well documented throughout the mailing list. First off, I might try using a real serial console. I use securecrt (w/ serial support) it works really well. Secondly.. I think the first problem might be the fact that there is not serial support by default. You will need either to grab the serial.o file and load it with the other modules (although you won't see kernel boot messages, or you will need to grab a linux kernel w/ serial support compile in. And lastly, just try reading the docs http://lrp.steinkuehler.net/Documentation/LRP-Serial-HOWTO.txt If you have some more specific questions, please ask them...
