Re: [LU] O'Leary
No I am not. Just have a good memory unclouded by bullshit! O'Leary built a team from nothing. We touched glory were truly glorious. He loves the place and has unfinished business with himself and us. He went off the tracks when he was given money to spend that was daft money he got that twerp in from Manchester. He'll sort the defense out. We know what we're getting he's nowhere as obnoxious as Davis or a ticking bomb as with Warnock. He's more experienced than the rest barring Jones maybe. Yes I like the choice. In fact I think he'd be less of a risk than anyone else [bar Jones] for MS. Lets face it MS wants: experience to bring success, work with kids in a budget not aggressive or abrasive with MS. O'Leary has a v in most if not all boxes. Re: [LU] O'Leary
My overriding memory of O'Deary is him sitting on the bench, chin in hands, looking out at his team of expensive misfits (being played out of position), and watching it all go wrong, but doing nothing about it - despite a bench full of players. Added to that, his horribly arrogant attitude - never again. He was lucky with that first team - one of those times when a great bunch of young players appeared together. He didn't have a clue how to coach them, or how to play tactically - second season every team had them figured out, and he had no answers. And once he started to spend big bucks, his lack of managerial ability became even more apparent. Gaffer P.S. Apart from that This communication is for informational purposes only. Let's not get too misty eyed about O'Leary. Yes, he did really well but don't forget that he had a lot of money to spend and the youngsters that were coming out of the youth team at the time were a one off compared to the talent we have available now, none of the current youngsters (Howson included) could hold a light to how good players like Kewell, Smith and Woodgate were at the time. Also, people forget that other young players such as Ferdinand, Bowyer and Bridges were bought with good money, they didn't come up through the ranks. On top of all that he inherited a rock solid back four from George Graham. Having said that, I'd take him back in a heartbeat over Davies, Ince, Warnock or Bruce! Mark K. He had a good set of youngsters who picked themselves and then when he had to delve into the transfer market he didn't have a clue. Again - Richard is spot on :) I've never been as frustrated as watching O'Leary cluless when things were not going our way. I honestly don't think we have had a more cluless manager in the post-Wilkinson era. And there are a few bad ones there mind! I always felt that when DO stood up and started pointing around, he did it more to look like a manager than really contributing to what was going on on the pitch. I understand Raddy Antic handed in his application. Why isn't he hired yet? Richard W is spot on x 2. My reasons: - He sanctioned Seth Johnson, Robbie Keane AND Robbie Fowler, neither of which were required at the time. - whether it was the book or his babies = their fault transition it seems players don't take to him. - Plus, in the now near 12 years since he left, he's had 2+ seasons at Villa and a spell in one of the (Saudi?) Arab leagues. Nuff said. Again, they're not popular but I would still be happy with Dave Jones or Warnockthen show them the door the day after promotion. -Original Message- From: leedslist-boun...@gn.apc.org [mailto:leedslist-boun...@gn.apc.org] On Behalf Of ei...@karlmenn.is Sent: miércoles, 08 de febrero de 2012 11:01 To: Richard Walker; Kitching, Mark; m...@myray.com; AlecMcQueen Cc: LEEDSLIST Subject: Re: [LU] O'Leary Again - Richard is spot on :) I've never been as Confidencialidad Este correo electrónico y, en su caso, cualquier fichero anexo al mismo, contiene información de carácter confidencial exclusivamente dirigida a su destinatario o destinatarios y propiedad de Vodafone España. Agreed Richard, O'Leary would be a bad move. I still think McCarthy is the man for us but given the Wolves win at the weekend (they were getting tonked until the sending off) we may need to wait until the end of the season for him, so the choices are to stick with Redfearn until the end of the season (and possibly write off this season as a result) and wait until the summer, or take someone else now. No I suffer from seeing things in more than black or white. I think its too simplistic to say DOL was lucky cause he inherited it a good squad and squads run themselves.. If that was the case why would anybody hire a manager? Also, the fact that he had good raw material means nothing. I can go out and buy the best piece of meat and cook it to shits. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that DOL's cv is on Bates's desk. He's making noises ever since he left that there's unfinished business. The only good thing I could say about DOL is that he did go with the youngsters whereas someone like George Graham might not have done that. Having said that , what a set of youngsters he had. The problem with DOL came when he started to bring in some big names - he couldn't make them blend and he was obviously out of his depth. Which striker ? Fowler, Keane, Viduka, Smith ??? Which defender ?? Radebe, Woodgate, Rio, Matteo ? He inherited a solid platform from GG at the back, his ONE stroke of genius (and luck, they don't come along in their numbers very often) was to give the youngsters a chance and had a great plan, attack attack attack. Use your youthful, carefree attitudes to frighten other teams and have a go, because GG has left us pretty solid at the back and I can maintain that. He then employed Brian Kidd, who planted seeds of doubt in the players minds. The rest, as they say, is history. StigOfTheDump 5 Seasons manager from U13-U17. [LU] LU: Redfearn it is then....
*Leeds United chairman Ken Bates says the club are in no rush to appoint a new manager and caretaker boss Neil Redfearn will be in charge for the next three games. * Bates says Redfearn since taking over from Simon Grayson last week has impressed him and he will be given his opportunity to show his credentials whilst giving Leeds time to consider their options. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Bates said, *We have decided that Neil will be in charge of the team for at least the next three games against Brighton, Coventry and Doncaster. Those three games are all very winnable. We are only two points of the play-offs. Win those three games and we are back in the play-offs, then who knows. We have decided after the impressive start Neil has made, not just with the win but his presence and his attitude around Thorp Arch that he will be given his chance to demonstrate, a longer opportunity to demonstrate his abilities whilst we consider the matter carefully.* Read more: http://www.leeds.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=272122#ixzz1lnZMevsV ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org PETE CASS (1962 - 2011) Rest In Peace Mate

Clueless as always. When did Bates come into the argument. It was all about DOL as a manager and he just wasn't up to it. From: Mark Humphries mark.humphr...@blueyonder.co.uk To: 'Richard Walker' richleed...@yahoo.co.uk; 'Richard Naef' rich...@triumph-computers.co.uk; leedslist@gn.apc.org Sent: Wednesday, 8 February 2012, 13:42 Subject: RE: [LU] managers I know you like to moan about everything and everyone so I'm not surprised you moan about DOL, I am a little surprised by two ironies that seem to have whizzed over your head (and your groupies of course). 1. You criticise DOL for being lucky and profligate, and yet blame bates for not bankrolling transfers for SG. Err hello. 2. You criticise DOL for buying lots of unneeded players, how many defenders and strikers did SG have on the books? And seeing as you won't sleep without my opinion, here it is; DOL was lucky in inheriting a great youth team, however he was brave to give those kids a break and a run in the side. Yes, even total donkeys/pub players like McPhail and Harte. His management of that team was brilliant. His downfall (EVERYONE has them in time) was to get a bit cocky, and to fixate over players he always wanted to sign (like Keane and Fowler). The main manifestation of his cockiness was to release that book and ruin team spirit. Duberry had a role in that too of course. On balance, he was a good manager for us, as the results clearly show even to miserable gits like you. I don’t think he would work for us now, but having said that it would be interesting to see how he does - there is no doubt he is a manager who wants to prove a point (to miserable gits like you). There, now you can sleep. -Original Message- From: leedslist-boun...@gn.apc.org [mailto:leedslist-boun...@gn.apc.org] On Behalf Of Richard Walker Sent: 08 February 2012 13:31 To: Richard Naef; leedslist@gn.apc.org Subject: Re: [LU] managers Brilliant. Re: [LU] LU: Redfearn it is then....
I honestly think he'll come undone against Brighton. From what I've heard and read he didn't really do anything interesting tactically last Saturday. Same bunch of cloggers with Pugh in at left back and White on the wing, dunno about Pugh at left back but I do prefer White in midfield. No room for Townsend. What I thought odd was he made no substitutions when we were 2-0 up against 9 men, surely Townsend and Rogers could have come on and run at them while they were knackered, maybe built some confidence up.If he's been coaching the young 'uns then maybe he knows of a good youngster who could move up the ranks.
