[LU] Trust thingy about Red Bull

2024-05-31 Thread John Boocock

Trust Response to Red Bull Partnership with Leeds United
Dear Member,

Yesterday, Leeds United announced that Red Bull has taken a minority
ownership stake in the club, as well as becoming our front-of-shirt
sponsor. There was a mixed response from the fan base with some
welcoming the financial investment, which of course is becoming more
important to delivering on-field success, while others expressed their
concerns strongly on what Red Bull’s future intentions could be, given
their history with other sports clubs. We would be naïve as fans to
assume there isn’t a larger, long-term plan for Red Bull’s initial foot
in the door at Leeds United.

The global energy drink brand owns RB Leipzig in Germany's Bundesliga,
Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, MLS side New York Red Bulls, as well as
Red Bull Bragantino and RB Brasil in Brazil. In the past, they have made
significant changes to club names, badges and kits, placing their brand
front and centre, overshadowing and in some cases erasing the history of
the clubs they have purchased. This has been met with large protests
from fans, and league-wide protests from fans of other clubs.

To be clear from the outset, any fundamental changes to Leeds United
club's identity and heritage will receive maximum resistance from our
fans, and we will be working closely with football authorities over the
coming years in preparation for any such move by Red Bull.

While the club have been open and proactive in stating that no one from
Red Bull will sit on the board and there will be no change to the name
or logo, this is only a promise while the 49ers maintain complete
control of the club. Nobody can predict what will happen after the
49ers’ custodianship, so we are taking the opportunity at an early stage
to let Red Bull, or any other potential custodians of our club, know
that we will not allow any of these fundamental heritage or identity
changes to happen to our club.

Backing of an Independent Football Regulator

One of the many reasons we are backing the introduction of an
independent football regulator is their ability to install protections
around football club identity and heritage. Although on hold until after
the General Election, the government white paper which was published
after a fan-led review in 2022 proposes that clubs in the Premier League
and English Football League will be held to account on specific heritage
elements.

Among these recommendations are a ‘duty to not relocate without
approval’ and a ‘duty not to change crest, home shirt colours or name
without approval’. That approval will not come without consultation with
supporters, a move which the government says will ‘put fans back at the
heart of how football is run.’ Leeds United Supporters’ Trust is proud
to have been a part of this consultation process with the government and
wholeheartedly support the recommendations. It’s important that we (and
fans of other football clubs) have these types of protections in place
sooner rather than later. We continue to work closely with the FSA on
this to ensure its effective and meaningful implementation.

Your questions to the club

Yesterday, we compiled the most common questions sent to us via social
media and email and put them to the club. To the club’s credit, they
were extremely responsive and understand that fans are likely to have
concerns over the partnership. Some of the below has been addressed via
media interviews but we would like to share the questions and answers in
full, where possible:

Q: Leeds fans are a very passionate and demanding fanbase, it’s
important that our fans know that all new investors and stakeholders
have a clear understanding of our history and heritage - especially
concerning badges, colours, renaming grounds with corporate sponsors
ahead of legacy players/managers etc. How is this being communicated to
our investors, especially those not based in the UK?

A: Absolutely. This decision was not made lightly, and was the result of
many conversations over several months with the Red Bull team to ensure
they shared the 49ers respect for the club’s history and spirit, and
that they were committed to the vision for Leeds going forward.

Q: It has been said that the Leeds United badge will remain unchanged
but how will the shirt look? Will it have the red logo on the shirts and
will the club colours remain the same and unchanged?

A: Correct, the LUFC logo will remain unchanged. In terms of their
branding, Red Bull may choose to use their original logo. Our shirts
have previously featured red logos (Redkite, Bet24, Packard Bell). We
understand supporters may have concerns about this, but we hope the
benefit this partnership brings to on-pitch performance will ultimately
outweigh that unease.

Q: Is Red Bull’s stake/investment linked to the stadium/ground in any way?

A: This deal isn't about Elland Road. Both 49ers Enterprises and Red
Bull are both deeply

In the current situation refereeing really needs a long hard review. I
have seen better at WorldNET.

Having said that refereeing is what it is. Would we have been unhappy if
the same referee had denied Ipswich three points?

Re the knackered point totally agree John. Both the physical and mental
strain really showed. It is how Farke and his team manage this that will
be the thing that gives us the points we need for promotion. I think he
knows this and can do this.

Thankfully, off the field we currently don't have any arseholes

Trust Responds to Season Ticket Price Increases
Dear Member,

After the distraction of the FA Cup, it's back to the bread and butter of our
promotion push when we lock horns with local rivals Huddersfield Town tomorrow
lunchtime hoping to make it 10 Championship wins on the bounce.

While Daniel Farke's boys look to do the business on the field, the club have
been busy behind the scenes with the announcement of increased season ticket
prices for next season.

Price rises are never welcomed, particularly during times of continued
widespread economic pressure.

Some fans will face larger increases than others as the club start to level out
season ticket legacy pricing, which aims to ensure that, in the future, no
season ticket holder is paying more than the one sat next to them.

The club's consideration that increases are based on 2022/23 prices, rather
than pre-rebate 2023/24 prices, is welcomed, alongside new options for payment
plans over the season. While we're disappointed to see some fans have rises of
12 per cent, we do acknowledge the club is still trying to respect the loyalty
of the longest-standing season ticket holders, allowing them to pay the lowest
amount for a match ticket over the next few seasons.

The club have actively engaged with a variety of different fan groups ahead of
today’s announcement which is a step in the right direction - and we
acknowledge that some, not all, of the feedback was taken on board. Last year
they failed to do this before announcing price increases so the club should be
applauded for taking views on board at an early stage.

We put a comprehensive list of our members’ points to the club via the
Supporters’ Advisory Board and in our meetings with Leeds representatives.
While we are pleased they listened to our members’ requests for ways to spread
the cost of renewing their tickets over six or 10 months, we were disappointed
they have not taken the opportunity to address some of the inconsistencies in
concession pricing, particularly for those who remain in full-time education.

We challenged the club on why, during a period of cost-of-living challenges,
they feel the need to put up season ticket prices at all. The club say the cost
of staging matches at Elland Road is also going up so increases will go towards
covering that additional match day outlay.

The club now plan to look at memberships for the 24/25 season. Again they are
looking for input from supporters before taking any decisions on cost and
membership packages. We plan to share a survey with our own members in the
coming days so please keep an eye out for it landing in your inboxes.

Marching On Together.

Meassage from Marching Out Together today. I know Mick and his family.
sound people. A sad time for them. I cetainly will give them a thought
at 41 mins.

Betty

The team at Marching Out Together were deeply saddened this week to
hear of the death of Louie Herbert, one of our members, and son of
   our board member Mick Ward.

Louie was just 41 and as well as a life-long Leeds fan was a
tireless campaigner for inclusion, diversity and equality and will
be missed by all of us fighting for a better world.

Louie would not have liked the attention of a ‘one minute clap’ at
Elland Road, but if during the Leicester game, at 41 minutes you
could have a pause to think about what you can do more to fight for
equality and to give the team an extra cheer it would be appreciated
by us all here at MOT and Louie’s friends and family.

That is of course the reason that it took so long for us to get

break their 30 spell of not winning the league.

Watching the EFL highligts last night it was deeply hilarious to see
Ipswich go 3-0 down in the manner they did, but I fear that Kieffer

[LU] The Story So Far

2024-02-04 Thread John Boocock
Ipswich's defeat by Preston confirms that our principle barrier to automatic
promotion should be based on maintaining consistency in our results, followed
closely by squad fitness and only then by hoping Southampton get deducted 10
points for er, being Southampton. Why do I say this? Well mainly because our
situation has always been in our own hands. Think Wendies, Rotherham,
Sunderland, etc etc..

As regards a cup run, half of me thinks "ah the magic of the cup" and the other
half thinks "it is adiversion from the real target". Mind you the thought of
winning the cup, staying in this rather lovely league and laughing at Liverpool
as we beat them at Wembley plus a trip round Europe has it's merits.

One other thought, I feel our on field discipline is the best I have ever seen
(excluding the red card issues which seem to have been resolved). If I had time
I would look into this further. (Where are the Stattos when we need them?)

In the past three years I have seen every Leeds match bar one from the comfort
of the armchair (thank you whoever dreamt up Amazon's Firestick) and, although
I miss being on Row W, the Adolphi and the fun of "Spadge Tours" to Europe, at
70 I am happy with my lot. Me and my mate Brian have had a lot of fun doing
this much to the amusement of our fellow villagers in the pub either before or
after matches. They are mainly Mags or Mackems and they provide us with lots of
fun. I mean only drawing four all with a big club like Luton. And what fun when
they played each other in the cup.

I digress. Anyway here's to a season which continues to keep my attention
firmly fixed on the league and a season where we remain unbeaten at home.

THE LEEDS LIST GLOSSARY AS AT August 28th, 1996

A collection of nicknames, acronyms and descriptions all purporting to
relate to the unofficial Leeds United AFC internet mailing list,
composed or edited by Betty Boocock, with several contributions coming
from the individuals concerned. So, if you're confused and bewildered by
the in-jokes and strange references on the list, read on and let
enlightenment flow...

ADOLPHI - Home of the pre match list meet, really called the Adelphi,
but renamed when it was suggested that the NF might have once met there.

ARMCHAIR - Usual seat taken by most opinionated members of the list,
preferably in foreign climes where the best view is always available. NB
the enormous, motorised armchair is Betty's large car built by French
communists.

BETTY - according to Andy 'Blood on Yer Boots' King, "I seem to remember
earlier this year you sorted out a few of the listers (Maggie,
Squiggle?) problems, and for a while the list was more like a ‘Dear
Aunty Betty the Agony Aunt’ list than a Leeds list". According to Guy:
"Because of your Betty Boothroyd tendencies during a number of
disputes." If the truth be known, it is because my Aunty Betty Boocock
is the only member of the family still left in Swinnow.

BLIND JOHN - Mr John Lukic (a former custodian of the onion bag).

BMW - The Best Mate's Wife. Euphemism for mistress, only used by cads
and bounders.

BOTL - Birds on The List. The women who contribute to life on the list,
and that's real women, not transvestites like Betty and Maggie.

BTW - Standard computer nerd acronym for "by the way”. Apparently, this
saves ink.

CASHBURN, NEWMONEY - (Come on, you can work those out, can't you?)

CHURCH OF THE REAL MAN/YORKSHIRE MAN - situated in the heart of the West
Leeds triangle of Burley, Headingley and Kirkstall, the Church and its
leader, Da Reverend John Lee, instructs devotees in the art of
Grolsch-swilling, currying, nesting, and opinionated conversation,
especially in the company of students who are not tolerated within the
Church. Chief doctrines include NO Rabid Canines, no buying Sharp
products, the sworn aim of the destruction of all things Lancastrian and
the moving of Parliament to Swaledale. It's anti Southern-Jessy &
Wearside-maggot philosophies easily identify the brethren. Dress sense
is casual with attitude, musical preferences eclectic but no hippie
shit, and a love of Geoffrey Boycott is essential. A definite NO SCABS
rule applies to membership, regardless of all other criteria, although
if you've ever shagged Sophie Rayworth you're probably in! Birds are
tolerated, but only if they're fit, can cook curry or are related to DRB
by marriage. In short, the brethren of justice and righteousness found
in the Church of the Real Man/Yorkshire Man are Gods children on Earth,
reside in the Land of the Gods and will surely one day inherit the Earth
(and will then proceed to wipe Lancashire off it!).

CHINAMAN - Young Lee Sharpe

DENIS - I ended up with Denis cos after the headshave at Euronet 96, I
ended up looking like Denis Irwin. Fortunately, my hair's grown back a
bit now. Still, it's better than being accused of looking like
'Sutcliffe' a few years ago (not funny I know, but that's southern
'humour' for you).

dOLEITE - (see SQUIGGLE).

DRB - Custodian of the reserve report and choirmaster of the Choir of
Unholy Angels, who normally give concerts on the Football Special of a
match day.

DUNDERHEAD - My list name is not a nickname but in fact my surname. This
is itself an Anglicisation of our previous, family name of Dumbkopf. My
great-grandfather, like many first-generation German immigrants during
the Great War, thought it prudent to change the family name of
Pimmelkopf to Windsor, but those damned Saxe-Cobourgs had beaten him to
it. He chose instead the more familiar surname of Dumbkopf, being true
to his Hanoverian roots while adopting a name commonly understood in
Great Britain.

FAKE TAN - If it is of any interest, the reason for my moniker Fake-Tan
is that after my first Adelphi trip before The Witness' hat-trick
against Ipswich, Da Rev sent this message to the List: "Apologies to
those of you in't Adelphi last night, I was completely knackered and
needed a few stiff drinks to get me moving again so wasn't my usual
whingeing lively self. Good to put a few more faces to names, Dave (RB)
and Charlie (Is it really that sunny up in Durham or was that fake-tan,
I think we should be old!!)." To which my reply was: "Well the secret is
out, thanks to a great night with the Listers in the Adelphi; cheers for
making me so welcome. Seeing The Witness get a first-half hat-trick
right in front of us in the Kop was something special. Now the Fake-Tan:

The whole situation looks like the usual 'Pure Leeds' at first sight. However
it appears that there is more than just the post match argy bargy about why
such and such a player gets chosen over another or who refused to support
whatever charity.

And now we hear that although Spurs may have received Spence back into the fold
he has been transfer listed straight away. Why does nobody want him?

His history, apart from half a season with the Scabs does not suggest a team
player. Mind you anyone who pisses off Colin Wanker can't be all that bad.

For Spence's part, he has remained schtum. Just check out his social media.
Farke's presser was circumspect, and the official club line is 'thanks, all the
best etc..'

I think if it wasn't for FA Cup weekend, the opening of the transfer window and
whatever new shit the Tories heap upon us, journos would have more to tell.
Things will remain just rumours for now.

Long and the short of it is whatever the full tale is, it does allow us a free
spot for another loanee who may or may not sort out our defensive left side
issue.

The choice of the Wendies was purely random but it means I get fed and

I haven't actually reached the actual birthday yet, but if I do it will

[LU] Incoming Jaidon (assumed name) Anthony

2023-09-02 Thread John Boocock
Leeds United are delighted to announce the signing of Jaidon Anthony on loan
until the end of the 2023/24 season.

The 23-year-old arrives at Elland Road from AFC Bournemouth, in a deal which
will see Luis Sinisterra head in the opposite direction to the Vitality
Stadium, for the remainder of the campaign.

Anthony spent his youth career with Arsenal, before going on to join the
Cherries in 2016.

He went on to make his debut for Bournemouth in December 2020 against Preston
North End in the Sky Bet Championship, before amassing six further appearances
throughout the campaign in all competitions.

The following season, Anthony established himself as a key player on the south
coast, making 45 appearances as Scott Parker’s side won promotion to the
Premier League.

During the 2021/22 campaign, in which Bournemouth finished as runners-up in the
second tier, he scored eight goals and provided six assists.

Last season, Anthony helped the Cherries keep their Premier League status,
featuring 30 times as they finished in 15th place.

The winger has started three of Bournemouth’s four matches in the current
campaign, with his last outing coming in Tuesday’s 3-2 victory over Swansea
City in the Carabao Cup.

He becomes the ninth and final arrival of the summer transfer window, alongside
Ethan Ampadu, Sam Byram, Karl Darlow Ilia Gruev, Glen Kamara, Joel Piroe, Joe
Rodon and Djed Spence.

Anthony will be unavailable for Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against
Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road, but could make his Leeds United debut after
the international break against Millwall at The Den, on Sunday 17th September.

[LU] Spence signs

2023-08-30 Thread John Boocock
Leeds United have confirmed the signing of Djed Spence, on loan from Tottenham
Hotspur for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign.

The 23-year-old full-back becomes the sixth arrival of the summer transfer
window for Daniel Farke’s side.

Speaking exclusively to LUTV after joining the Whites, Spence gave his thoughts
on the move.

He said: “It’s good to be here and I can’t wait to get started.

“It’s a big club, obviously there’s a good squad and there is ambition at the
club to get back to the Premier League.

“I just want to get playing again. There’s a good manager here, I’ve heard a
lot about him and way he wants to play attacking football. I think that will
suit my style of football.

"I’ve spoken to him [Daniel Farke] and he’s orchestrated in the way he wants to
play, it sounded good and for me it was the right decision."

Spence joins fellow Spurs loanee Joe Rodon at the club, and he could now make
his debut against Sheffield Wednesday in a Yorkshire derby at Elland Road this
weekend.

“Yeah, I know Joe from my parent club [Tottenham Hotspur] and from when I was
out on loan last season [at Rennes, in Ligue 1],” the full-back explained.

“It’s good to have a him in the building as well, someone that I know.

“It’s just exciting now to join the team and hopefully I can impress everyone
here.

“I’m looking forward to playing at Elland Road, I’ve heard a lot about the
fans. They are meant to be very loud.

“We want to win as many games as we can now.”

Actually there appears to be a lot of activity on the transfer front at the
moment, players coming in from Rangers, Nrwich and Germany according to the
pundit world. I am finding it hard to keep up.

At this rate Meslier will have gone to Germany too. A lot of this could be very
good business, especially as Gnotgottogo and Cyrencio look to have been seduced

Onwards!

I think that is the most salient point John. No amount of money or
whatever they pay this lot with these days would be worth keeping them.
Clear out yes that's a must, hopefully with those at the helm having a
clear plan for replacements. Having said that when has anyone in the
boadroom at Elland Road ever been trustworthy, competent and capable?
The Jury remains out here in the rainy Northern Pennines.

(Incidentally I will be ending my boycott of Elland Road on the 2nd of

Leeds United are delighted to announce the loan signing of central defender Joe
Rodon.

The 25-year-old Wales international joins the Whites on a season-long deal,
from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

In September 2019, Rodon earned his first international cap for Wales, playing
90 minutes to help his country defeat Azerbaijan 2-1.

He was at the heart of the defence to help Wales qualify for UEFA Euro 2020 and
also helped the Dragons make history, when in June 2022, they qualified for the
FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1958.

Rodon played in all four of Wales’ UEFA Euro 2020 matches, helping them reach
the last 16 of the tournament, whilst in Qatar at the FIFA World Cup 2022 he
also started all three matches.

He now links up with international teammates Ethan Ampadu and

Time for a change at the top of our club I think - Wilko has worked
many wonders but now we need a fresh approach. What we saw on
Sunday is something I've seen too often over recent months and
years.

Football aside it was a memorable weekend, and in the style of
Boocock here are some of the things I remember in an incoherent
order.

==

Roger's suit and tie. The man was a model of sartorial eloquence
(he still went round bellowing "bollocks" every two minutes though)

First ever public appearance of Muckshifter

Brendan McWilliams being 5' 1" instead of the widely expected 7' 2"

Vic's custom-built leeds-uni...@vax.ox.ac.uk jackets

David and Kate Brennan's his and hers matching wembley 96 t-shirts

Voice's brother being a total Boffin

Simon Cunningham and Voice continuing the "trendy bands no one's
heard of" thread (I made an excuse and left to avoid saying anything
embarrassing like "what do you reckon to Abba then?")

Graham White looking, erm, staggering

Four people in Leeds tops in a Pizza parlour asking for their
white wine to be properly chilled and served in an ice bucket

Being I told I don't look like Cantona any more but that top cool
trendy Italian blerk whose name I've forgotten again (remind me
DRB)

James Lundon buying me a pint

Boocock's banner even if it didn't get on telly, complete with
stains

Champagne and curry

Guy Thornton's threadbare wolley hat and the little plastic model
of him above the bar in the Constitution (right down to the
moustache)

Stuart Lee nibbling his pint of lager nervously till Bob Case
arrived with his raffled ticket

Singing outside the Fox and Hounds after the police "raid" which
some intemperate next door neighbour provoked at the uneartly hour
of 10:45pm.

Finally meeting another of the list's Andy Kings

John Lee being described as "a fat version of Gary Speed"

The extremley loud-mouthed whingeing lass sat behind me in the

worse than the list on one of its hungover/pissed off days except
that I couldn't delete it)

Some blerk winding Vic's elbow up and down saying "I am a Leeds fan from
Leeds, You are a Leeds fan from Los Angeles: I shake your hand"

Revd Lee distributing Opal Fruits at half time

Talking Welsh to Mike Cheetam's girlfriend

Talking crap to just about everyone else (okay my Welsh wasn't
exactly much kop either)

The poor kid who wandered into the Constitution, packed with Leeds,
with a Man U bag on his back.

Wobbley Stadium - 3.20 for a "double hotdog"?  "We don't sell chips
separately"?? I'll be bringing salmon paste sarnies and a flask of
Mellow Birds for the Euro 96 games (anyone else off to that btw?)

Realising there were two Boococks about - Boocock and Brother of
Boocock. A sobering thought, but not for long

Gary MacAllister walking resolutely round the Leeds fans at the end
of the game to acknowledge us - Nice one Gary.

Police-people irritatingly making us walk the length and breadth of
Wembley train station to get to our train on the way back instead
of letting us straight down the steps to it - then shouting at Adam
Woodhall for sticking his foot in the door as we sprinted to make it.

Becks getting bought drinks by everybody, all the time

Wondering whatever happened to Mark Humphries and Glynn Robinson

Rumours sweeping the pub that Joo Tan was present

Tim Sherlock laughing at an Amazing Joke which he refused to repeat

Nigel Kinder leaving as soon as I arrived

Voice of Football is a wanker is a wanker

... well that'll do. Well done people who did any organising for
the meets. It was Probably The Best List Meet In The World.

Shame about the footie.

I have also received an invitation to endorse a couple of cafes at Whingate.

the duo from the Mainline Social Club at Greenthorpe.

The missus's old feller came from the land of the sad alcoholic so I will be
able to get a game in Europa '96 too on account of McCoist going off the

I've always wanted to play for my country and this one will do for me.

Anyroad I must be off as I've got to bone up on girlie sports like ice

[LU] latest Updates from Euronet er, 96

2023-07-31 Thread John Boocock

Leeds (Inter Lard)
Well, if the expression `No Pain-no gain!' is true, my body would
indicate that I've just won the World Cup single-handed yesterday - I
ache like a b***ard!!
So, to the highlights. First game and a 2-0 victory courtesy of goals
from Sean Gaffney, a close range header from a long throw by moi, the
second by Ade Thompson in a goalmouth scramble following a corner. Solid
performance from the Lards - Vinny and Sean commanding in midfield and
with Simon Hart and the immovable objects that are Jon Abbott and Mike
Eslea in central defence, we never looked like losing! We also had an
excellent goalie in James Tinman Lawson!
Bring on the Arse - in truth we struggled in this one. We couldn't get a
grip of the midfield and their use of the wind to hoik it down our left
flank caused us all sorts of problems, with only some resolute defending
saving us. However, the tide turned some 4 minutes from the end when
their keeper, with a peculiar red-coloured hair which had prompted `he's
got a strawberry on his head' throughout the game, failed to hold a
Vinny shot and Rob Gray pounced from two yards out! Worst aspect of the
game was Simon Hart being injured and out for the rest of the tournament
- we missed him badly!

Leeds v Man U
And then it was Scum. As Scum had scored more goals than us in winning
their two games, we had to beat them - a draw was no good! Well on the
whole this tournament was played in an excellent spirit, but to say
there was an edge to this one was the understatement of the day! Some
crunchingly effective tackling saw our Mancunian foes halted time and
again. I got the `one more time and your off' from the ref, but pride of
place was taken by Andy Hoskyns by an above the knee dreadfully late
hard whack at a passing Scummer - he was dutifully booked (if I'd been
reffing I'd have sent him off!) - the only player to be booked on the
day, although to be fair, the standard of referring was variable!
Anyway, supported by a vast crowd, including practically ALL the other
clubs present, the Lards pressed on until, in another goalmouth scramble
3 minutes from time Ade Thompson somehow got the ball in their net!
Bedlam ensued, with a full scale pitch invasion by supporters and
players of ALL teams - Scum must have felt VERY alone! I even saw the
Villa goalkeeper doing a huge belly-flop a la Klinnsman in the box -
madness! The next 3 minutes seemed like half an hour! Then disaster,
they got a free kick just outside our box with about a minute to go!
Breath was held, as indeed were plums in our wall - the cocky git
chipped it over us, plums were unclenched as James punched the ball over
the bar, only for a Scummer to claim he'd been pushed! But, no dice from
the ref! Voice's head met the corner and then it was all over. Another
pitch invasion and off we went with `1-0, we beat the Scum 1-0' ringing
in our ears. This was our final and we'd won!

The Voice
Sitting around for an hour or so, having been sizzled by a scorching sun
all day, did little for us, and our game against QPR in the semi
resulted in a 6-1 defeat. A little harsh, especially as 3 of their goals
were top corner specials that could've gone anywhere. Boro did everyone
a favour by beating them 1-0 in the final! And when the ref, our own Jon
Abbot, disallowed a QPR goal for offside on the advice of the linesman,
our own Simon Tobias, there was much satisfaction for us all!!

Finally, I'd like to thank Voice for yesterday - I certainly wouldn't
want to do it again for a while but I think everyone enjoyed the
occasion, the organisation was as flawless as maybe it was possible to
be (although the medal inscriptions of Euronet Space 96 winners probably
peeved him no end!) AND we beat the Scum in a game that really mattered.
Nice one Dave - I hope your young 'un has recovered from the trauma of
seeing you have your head shaved too?

The REV
knackered!

(LU) FIRST JOKE ON T'NEW LIST?

A man and his wife are awakened at 3 o'clock in the morning by a loud
pounding on the door. The man gets up and goes to the door where a
drunken stranger, standing in the pouring rain, is asking for a push.
"Not a chance," says the husband, "it is 3 o'clock in the morning!"

He slams the door and returns to bed. "Who was that?" asked his wife.
"Just some drunken guy asking for a push," he answers. "Did you help
him?" she asks. "No, I did not! Its 3 o'clock in the morning and it is
pouring out there!"

"Well, you have a short memory," says his wife. "Can't you remember
about three months ago when we broke down and those two guys helped us?
I think you should help him, and you should be ashamed of yourself!"

The man does as he is told, gets dressed, and goes out into the pounding
rain. He calls out into the dark, "Hello, are you still there?" "Yes"
comes back the answer.

"Do you still need a push?" calls out the husband. "Yes, Please!" comes
the reply from the dark. "Where are you?" asks the husband. "Over
here... on the swing!" replies the drunk.

https://theathletic.com/4568028/2023/06/01/leeds-elland-road-sampdoria-radrizzani

Leeds United’s chairman Andrea Radrizzani offered to use the club’s
Elland Road stadium as security for a £26million bank loan which his
company, Aser, and a bidding partner, Gestio Capital, intended to use to
complete a takeover of the Italian club Sampdoria. Under a heads of
terms agreement co-signed by Radrizzani — essentially an agreement in
principle — Elland Road would act as collateral as part of a deal by
Radrizzani’s Aser and his bidding partner Gestio Capital to borrow €30m
(£25.8m; $32.1m) from Italian bank Banca Sistema, helping to fund their
Sampdoria buy-out.

The proposed bridging loan would be due for repayment within two years,
and also contains clauses showing that the bank would charge interest of
provisionally between six and nine per cent per year during this period.
However, the agreement would also enable the loan to be extended for up
to a decade, which throws open the possibility that Leeds United’s home
could act as security for Radrizzani’s Italian venture on Sampdoria for
10 years. The current status of the proposed loan and the extent to
which it has progressed beyond a heads of terms agreement is unclear,
but no charge has been registered, at the time of publication, on
Companies House, the executive agency of the British government that
maintains the register of companies.
The Leeds stadium is not owned by Leeds themselves but was bought by
Radrizzani in 2017, shortly after he became owner of the Yorkshire club.

In a further twist, however, sources close to the takeover process
insisted on Thursday morning that Leeds board members, including the
49ers and the club’s chief executive Kinnear, had not been informed of
the proposal to use Elland Road as security against the loan. The
sources added that Marinelli, a Leeds board member, an officer of Elland
Road Ltd and the CEO of Aser, who are part of the group attempting to
take over Sampdoria, had also not been informed. Radrizzani did not
respond to a request for comment on this point. It is understood the
49ers were only informed about Radrizzani’s proposal on Wednesday
evening after The Athletic’s initial approach. It remains unclear
whether the agreement in principle has progressed further, or if
Radrizzani ultimately opted for a different approach to secure funding,
but it is remarkable in itself that the Leeds chairman was prepared to
put his name to securing the stadium of his current club against a loan
to buy a different club. It is also likely to strain relations between
Radrizzani and the 49ers just at the point supporters may be hoping they
will thrash out a final agreement for a takeover. In an email to The
Athletic on Wednesday evening, Radrizzani said: “You are not well
informed as the deal has been done by Gestio Capital.” Gestio Capital
did not respond to a request for comment.

A bit more from the article…

Leeds were only relegated from the Premier League to
the Championship on Sunday afternoon but their majority owner Radrizzani
was not present at the final match of the campaign as he instead sought
to finalise an agreement for Sampdoria.

Leeds are majority-owned by Radrizzani but the club’s minority
shareholder, 49ers Enterprises, has been in discussions to acquire

sources close to the takeover process, who like others in this article
wished not to be named to protect business relationships, told The
Athletic that the 49ers had not been informed about the stadium being
put forward as the security for a potential loan. Less than 24 hours
after Radrizzani announced that an agreement had been reached in
principle for his group to purchase Sampdoria, The Athletic learned that
a proposal had earlier been drawn up which meant that in order for the
bank to approve the loan, it would be secured against Leeds’ Elland Road
ground, which is controlled by Elland Road Ltd, the UK company which
controls the stadium.

[LU] LUST Statement

2023-05-29 Thread John Boocock

I make no comment

https://lufctrust.com/article/relegation-it-s-impossible

At the start of the season, Andrea Radrizzani brazenly dismissed the
risk of a survival battle for Leeds United, claiming relegation was
"impossible".

Well Andrea, it all feels very possible right now.

The responsibility for our relegation lies with the people in charge. In
another long, frustrating, and depressing season, the club has either
made the wrong decisions or taken too long to make the right ones,
leading to poor and forced choices.

We won't list the failures and shortcomings here - it's plain to see
what has gone wrong. It feels like a lifetime ago since the standards of
Marcelo Bielsa turned this club into something Leeds United fans could
be proud of, and we are now, quite literally, back in the same place we
were 5 years ago.

The fans can once again say that we have upheld our part of the bargain.
We have suffered watching poor football and worse results but have
consistently supported the players and stuck with the team until the
bitter end.

Despite this, there has often been a level of contempt shown for fans.
We have seen the (ex) Director of Football goading fans, the Owner
making outlandish statements in the media (and directly to fans on
Twitter), and day-to-day supporter services and match day experience
significantly decline.

Trust has to be rebuilt between ownership and the wider fan base.

As we prepare for life back in the Championship what can we expect? Who
will own the club come August?

How soon can we expect to see key staff appointments made?

Earlier this week, we put the following questions to the club to try and
understand what is in the plans going forward.

 *

What do you believe has gone wrong?

 *

What are the plans for the club's ownership and how quickly can we
   expect a definitive answer?

 *

When will a Director of Football/Head of Football Recruitment
appointment be made and what will the recruitment strategy be?

 *

Do we expect to start the new season with a new manager and how
quickly are those decisions going to be made?

 *

How does the club's ownership structure plan to re-engage with
fans and rebuild the trust they acquired during our promotion from
   the Championship?

The club responded to say they will be addressing the entire fanbase and
their concerns directly post the final game.

This is a group of fans that fear what the future holds post-relegation
more than most others, given how traumatic the previous Premier League
relegation was.

We need clarity and reassurance, and we need it very soon.

Marching on together.

Simon said of Firpo: 'At least he managed to get himself sent off so we won’t
see him in a Leeds shirt again.' If only it had happened earlier, he and
Aaronson are two of the least able, least consistent players in the squad.
Speaking of consistency, Joe Robles almost joined Firpo for an early bath too.
In our predicament discipline is of prime importance.

[LU] Hier Soir

2023-04-26 Thread John Boocock
Having struggled through the last two matches manfully, I was prepared
for the very worst last night. I cheered up no end with Sinisterra's
great goal, but by the time we had reached 60 minutes it was clear that
normal service had been resumed.

Yes Harrison looked the best of the bunch even if his aim is sometimes
wayward and yes Meslier had a much better game (admittedly against a
less skilled attack), and here's another but, why the hell did we ever
buy Aaronson, McKennie or our new bench warmer Rutter?

Surely we have more potential amongst the kids? Just cast your mind back
to the handover from Graham to O'Leary and see what happened. Yes I know
Risible had his shaky hands all over some very expensive signings after
that, but surely the time is fast approaching when we will see the folly
of shoving out James, Clarke and Geldhart whilst relying on Marsh's best
mates from a world where football is clearly a figment of someone's
imagination.

We need someone with a properly organised footballing brain in charge,
even if that means preparing for what I consider to be the joys of the
only real League in England, the Championship.

The shadow of our recent past still hangs over us and round every corner
there appear to be traps set by those involved in that past. Those sat
in the board room should perhaps think about what renewal is required to
combat that past as until whoever is in there this week does that we
will continue to look backwards. In fear of our own shadows.

On the other hand if we stay up.

Re 'the elephant in the room', I well remember being subject to a very similar
feeling in a meeting with Ridsdale a hundred years ago. The difference then

Most of the items reported on in those minutes mirror those of meetings held in

when me and my mate Broughie entered one of our two local pubs we let

I am still not convinced by Aaranson, he has flashes of brilliance but
then quickly goes off the boil. I am very impressed with Wobel, he is
fit, hard to beat and accurate. Broughie and I thought that Ayling
(apart from his shot at row W -and even that failed) is playing well
recently, although his best is probably only 85% in some people's eyes,
but we are where we are.

Some great work rates on the field too. I haven't seen the stats but it
looked to me as if we had the better of all the one on ones. The
shithouserie from Southampton shows just how desperate they are. That
big galoot they have up front cost them £18 mill, remind me again how
much Willie cost.
