Re: [LU] New Season

2023-08-02 Thread Kevin Lewis via Leedslist
As Dave says, we don't seem to be at all ready. I can't see Leeds getting
going early enough to make a real promotion challenge. I'm hoping the 49
ers injection, the parachute payment and another transfer window to sort
things out might just give us a chance of sneaking into the play offs.

I'd like to revise my evaluation of the Radrizanni/Orta years in the light
of this summer. Both must be to blame for the contracts which allowed 6
players who cost £85 mil to leave for essentially nothing. Also the
refusal to accept even the possibility of relegation in the setting up of
the 49ers take over, delayed everything in the close season.

So whilst getting rid of the previous regime, buying back the ground,
sorting out debts and getting Bielsa, should have made them an unqualified
success, they have left us in a pretty bad way now.

The mess of the Augustin deal, and the embarrassment surrounding the
non-signings of Cuisance, Bamba-Dieng and James (the first time) did not
give me much confidence in their abilities.

As to how the obvious deficiencies in the squad will show up on the pitch,
we will soon find out.

Agreed, questions that need to be asked Kev.
And the comments from Alex give some food for thought.
As for being a weird season that's more like it's going to be a very weird

I to expected more postings to the list. Has email become so passée and old

Have posted some articles from The Guardian and Observer to the facebook page.
In case anyone hasn't seen them:

2020-09-07 Thread Alec McQueen
Being a Bournemouth (as well as a Leeds) fan, I have some practice in the art
of not going down when you should. Here’s what you need:

1. 10 wins. A bit obvious, but pretty much you always need 10.
2. A decent manager. We have one of those, so there’s hope
3. A decent core squad. Trouble here. Not good enough yet.
4. A few decent signings each year. Bournemouth struggled with this...
eventually the poor signings got the better of them, and down they go.
5. A bit of luck to avoid injuries to key players. Again, B’th suffered badly
on this one
6. A home siege mentality: we’ve got this in Spades, could be a trump card
7. A bit of luck in the early season: this can get you 2 or 3 wins quickly, and
this makes the season oh so much easier. Lose the first 4, and you’re in
trouble.
8. A decent defence, especially a class central defender. Oops, we ain’t got
nuffin. Our one class lad we had has gone.
9. A striker who avoids injury and can bury them reliably. Another miss, unless
our new signing can do the biz and be a star: unknown quantity.
10. Beat the teams at the bottom win the 6 pointers, and you stay up. B’th
didn’t... they went down. It’s no good beating Chelsea and ManU one week, and
then losing to Villa and Fulham the next. We have to beat the smaller teams.

On balance, I would say we are a 17th or 18th placed squad right now. We
desperately need some Bielsa Magic. Without it, we are gonna struggle.

Having said all this, I seriously hope we are top by Xmas and win the league by
30 points.
Cheers

[LU] New Season - Very quiet

2020-09-07 Thread Kevin Lewis (UK SBS)
Hi all,
Very little traffic on the list. I would have expected it to be in meltdown,
or are we all still too stunned at the prospect of Leeds being in the Premier
League

Anyway, before the season and list gets into full swing I’ve got a couple of
things that have been on my mind for a few weeks.

  1. Berardi. What happened to him? I realise he is out of contract and
injured (sadly). But it is almost like he has become a non-person. His name
does not appear on any squad lists on sites, but there has been no official
announcement either. Do Leeds pay for his treatment and rehabilitation, or do
they just say ‘Contract’s Up, Bye’. Is he still registered as Leeds player?
I’m sure he’s not on his uppers, but going 9 months or however long it takes
him to get fit – without any pay is not a great reward for a player who has
been a good servant for 6 ? years, and played his part in getting Leeds back to
the PL. He may not have been treated as badly as it seems to me, but nothing
has come out of official or news channels. It would not be right to give him a
new contract because he got injured, nor is it right not to give him one for
the same reason.
  2. The Augustin situation. This probably one for the Contract Lawyers on
the list. One of the things I remember from a very rudimentary level of
studying Contract Law, was some precedent which stated that an agreement to
agree in the future is not enforceable. The same thought has struck me over
the years whenever a player signs a ‘Pre-Contract Agreement’ 6 months prior to
his existing contact running out. Can these things be worded (with the
passing of some consideration possibly) to be legal? Of course in the 45 years
that have passed since I remember this there have probably been all sorts of
legislation around this sort of thing. Further complicated by being in (or out
of) the EU as well perhaps. Does anyone have an informed opinion on this?

After that little lot I’m sure people would rather speculate on Leeds chances
of avoiding relegation, and give opinions on the squad being assembled.

Cheers
KOT.

[LU] Next season

2018-05-07 Thread Mark
What about this Darren Moore fella at WBA? Surely he can motivate players to
succeed more than Heckingbottom?

I would agree with most everyone else regarding the players I'd dump this
off-season. And this is my list:

Pennington, Lonegan, Felix, Roofe, Berardi, Dallas, Sacko, Cibicki and Saiz
because I think he lacks the bottle to fight and win plus sadly Alioski,
because no matter how much I want him to succeed he never seems to deliver
anything game in and game out.

And if Cooper, Lasogga or O'Kane ever pull on a Leeds shirt for a meaningful
game then I'm done. Complete wank all of them.

Re: [LU] The season so far?

2017-11-29 Thread MATTHEW GAYNOR
I broadly agree and not sure the problem areas in the team are necessarily TC's
fault.
Goalkeeper - We should have kept Green until we were certain that Felix was
upto it (or not). But it does sound like Green threw a strop when not picked
and difficult someone in that situation.
Left-Back - Embarrassing we don't have one - but I was expecting
Borthwick-Jackson to be better than he has been - bit surprised he hasn't been
given another chance.
Centre-Back - I thought Pennington was a good signing and he would be better
than Cooper, but that's not proved to be the case and to be fair to Cooper he
has been better than usual
Striker - I think the club tried to keep Wood. Lasogga is an odd one, his
finishing is excellent but doesn't really work hard enough.  Ekuban looks to be
the opposite. I'd give Ekuban a run for the time-being.
We need to be patient with TC, he does seem to be learning and constant changes
hasn't exactly achieved a lot in recent years.

I agree, pretty mixed so far but with a belief that we are going in the right
directionIt is a shame we could not build on last season with Monk, Wood,
Bartley, Green and Taylor. In some ways last season became a write off. Having
said that and (this will no doubt make the anti Cellino people mad) we did get
a lot a fans back due to the amazing 'play offs or money back' promotion.
I am not sure how successful it is at this level with the manager not picking
the players to sign (a lot easier higher up the Leagues when you are buying
good players) - the fact that Kiltch and Cibiski have not had a single look-in
suggests that maybe TC did not choose them. I get that it is up to them to
impress in training etc but neither have been given any sort of chance on the
pitch
Saiz is an absolute breath of fresh air and I do like Alioski when he is doing
well ( which he is at present) and like the fact that unlike Monk and his
safety first attitude TC does seem to want to win each game and is willing to
play these two and Hernandez in the same team
We do have problems - the keeper the obvious one- we do not seem to play to
Lasoggas strengths, given the right service he is capable of out scoring Wood.
TC is also reluctant to change the formation / shape of the team. The idea of
Lasogga and Ekuban (or Roofe) as a geniune front two on occasion with Saiz
pulling the strings behind them has got to be worth a try
I suppose it is a case of so far so good with plenty of room for improvement.
What we need now is stability, so we can build on the foundations, not start
every season with a new squad and a new manager
Radz does seem to have his finger on the pulse and is making a lot of right
moves - certainly a step up after the bent Bates, the incompetent GFH and the
unpredictable Cellino. Radz has a plan and seems to listen to what fans etc
want. Not sure what money he has and where it is coming from (I do worry that
he is a TV man and his ultimate aim is to get his hands on our TV money with
new TV rights etc)
Looking forward to Friday night- a big test but one we are capable of
overcoming. A good result should be a springboard to us getting back into the
top six in the New Year (think Wolves will run away with the title)

on everything so far?

Personally, whilst some of the defeats have been pretty difficult to
stomach and frustrating, we're just about where I hoped we would be.
Obviously higher would be nicer, but in touch of the play-offs with a
load of new players and an untried manager, is OK.

What is VERY positive is the reconnection between the club and the fans
and the local community, Radrizanni (for me) has still to put a foot
wrong. Now buying up Matthew Murray School to develop an even better
training facility, close to the ground and benefitting the Leeds
community is another masterstroke.

I like Christianson. I HOPE he is learning and I really want him to
succeed, dunno why, but I have warmed to him and like what he's TRYING
to achieve.

As I think we ALL know, we're three players short of being bloody good
for this league, most important of which is a goal keeper. Quite who, I
have no idea, but he has to dominate that area and control his defence,
thus bringing the best out of them. Managers have to surely understand
that not all keepers are Manuel Neuer and a commanding, hungry keeper
who can play a little bit should suffice!

Any thoughts? Anyo

they have also renewed their ST for next season.Dave(us 20 yr ST holders were
mentioned in the original offer as not being eligible for a refund)

I read that the club is preparing to keep its promise to make refunds to
season ticket holders for not making the play offs. Sadly, it's a double
edged sword what with the disappointment of not making the top 6 coupled
with the financial loss of having to make the refunds.

I'm not a season ticket holder, but I'd be interested to know how many,  who
are,  will be accepting or applying. It's rumoured that it'll cost the club
about £1M - not a huge sum in the football world, but money that could go
towards strengthening the playing squad.

Perhaps everyone involved will happily accept the funds back and think
"Tough luck MC,  you shouldn't have made the promise and now it's time to
pay up"

Alternatively, the money could be used, for example,  to pay for a more
attractive package to sign up Monk or his replacement and push for success
next season.

What do you think?

Dave

2017-04-29 Thread Tim Whelan
According to my calculations, if be beat Wigan next week we will end up with a
points total that would have been good enough to have made the play-offs in 9
of the last 10 seasons. It's just that this season there was a bit of a gap
below the top 7, so by definition one team had to miss out with a relatively
big points total.

Also I think a lot of hesitancy at set pieces comes from the keeper. Yes, good
shot stopper but in this league it's all about commanding your area and giving
confidence to the back four. Silvestri doesn't give this.

Re: [LU] Next season

2016-03-22 Thread Richard Naef
I have no optimism that next season will be better than this unless someone
invests 10M-15M in the team. Unless that happens as Bridcutt is on
Premiership wages I doubt we can afford him, we've done him a favour getting
him back in the sweaty's team so he'll be looking to get back to the
premiership I reckon. I'd want to keep Dallas, as I think in a decent team
he would shine. I have a soft spot for Mowatt and would like to see him
given another chance.

I doubt Antenucci would stay unless he has a guarantee of more games, but
he's a good 2nd choice striker and Doukara is a squad player at best.
Berardi is a decent player, but I hope Coyne will soon be first choice.

Keep Cook and Wood, give Botaka a chance to show what he can do.

Silvestri and Cooper can stay unless we can get better in.

We need strength in depth, rather than just one player per position.

I have no optimism that next season will be better than this unless someone
invests 10M-15M in the team.

Re: [LU] Next season

2016-03-22 Thread Simon McNally
My issue with silvestri is that he is appalling at commanding his area and
claiming crosses. I agree that he is a good shot stopper but isn't that his
job? He has cost us a number of goals simply because he doesn't claim crosses,
especially from corners. He also hesitates when balls are played through behind
the back four. I think he must be a nightmare to play in front of. I just don't
see him as the goalie in a promotion chasing team.
Bellusci is an injury faking twat who , if rumours are to be believed, is not a
very positive influence in the dressing room.
I worry for Mowatt. He's on danger of treading the same path as mcphail, Murphy
etc before him.

Got my tickets today. (There are a couple of hundred on general sale).
Plan to leave work early and get to Our Mutual Friend for
5.30-6.00ish.

Be good to see some Listers.

Nearest pub is Our Mutual Friend, Broadwater Crescent. Usually has 6
real ales on and regular finalist for CAMRA North Herts pub of the year.
One of the few places dahn sarf where you get lined pint pots. Only
drawback is local plod force them to use plastic glasses on match days.

If anyone is coming to see this can arrange to meet up for a pint, or give you

If anyone is coming to see this can arrange to meet up for a pint, or give
you info on decent pubs. Be aware the Lamex Stadium is a dry ground (but
the best pub in Stevenage is 5 mins walk away).

Nearest pub is Our Mutual Friend, Broadwater Crescent.  Usually has 6 real
ales on and regular finalist for CAMRA North Herts pub of the year.  One of the
few places dahn sarf where you get lined pint pots.  Only drawback is local
plod force them to use plastic glasses on match days.

I feel the same - not looking forward to all the manically checking the phone
every 5 mins up to 1755 CET (or worse checking #twitterwhites constantly) ,
then having my hopes dashed AGAIN.

Another part of the footy fatigue this time around is the fact that the
Olympics have been spectacular (I doff (doth?) my cap to GB, truly stunning,
even for this biased observer) and a GREAT European Championship was only a
month ago.

Plus, when you compare the Olympic athletes with the shower of overpaid c**ts
in footy...

All of the friendlies I ignore completely but IN SAYING THAT, NW is the
promotion king in this division and you have to trust him - even if not the
prettiest.

Hope springs eternal

Greetings from a hot Madrid.

PS Good to know both Richard Walker - along with David Natton - is back with
the unmissable match reports.

So, how did your predictions go this season?

At the start of this season I said that we would spend nothing, do nothing
in the cups and finish 14th.

Best prediction year I have ever had.

However, I didn't predict that we would sack the best young manager we have
had for a while. I didn't like it when it happened, and I like it even less
now. Utter madness, and it was all because SG was getting bolshy in the
media about lack of resources, which we all bloody agree with. Unless there
is some investment soon, we could be relegated next year. I bet our 3 best
players will be sold this summer, with a few frees coming in. I fcking hope
not, but I am very pessimistic while the bearded twat is still alive.

How much is his pension fund up to now?

I agree with a lot of things. I think that SG failed but that may well not
be the reason he was sacked.
I do also think that the gloss on Colin is fading fast.
I cannot see money being spent. Just enough to say that it was but nowhere
near what the war chest is supposed to contain or we really need.
I hope for Snoddy's sake that he goes. I'd hate to think that he was conned
into taking a chance with two chancers.
As bad as the MS is alive is his death will plunge us into absolute chaos
and abject disaster. Which I predict we will not survive. The only sure
thing is that there will be a lot of screwing going on: him into the ground
as he's so crooked, us as always and a lot of fellow erstwhile partners in
scewdom who will find themselves with a post mortem screwing from
the malevolent stoat. +
Do you really believe this twat will leave his affairs in order?
What reason do you have ?

Acc to my reckoning, we took 17 pts off the top 6 clubs, and 16 off the bottom
6.

Seems we are still suffering from Big Club Syndrome..we can
take on the good teams without any problem (consider recent Cup performances as
well), but when we have to meet some of these pathetic little clubs like
Sheffield United or Derby, they raise their game so much because playing Leeds
is their biggest game for years.

MARCHING ON TOGETHER

[LU] The season to come

2010-08-02 Thread John Lee
at World Net, Betty and I touched briefly on match reports on the list and what
a boon they are to those who don't/can't go.

So, with that in mind, can I ask the likes of Dave, Rick W, Nick A, Terry and
all other match-reportees to keep it up this season?

As always, we EXPECT the personal attacks on left backs, Bechio, when Grayson
should go, which midfielder can't run, that daft tw*t Gradel etc.

Anyway, to all you budding reporters out there - CHEERS!!

Here here x 1000.

The reports from those listed below are ESSENTIAL READING, so if you
could do one say by 5.10pm, that'd be nice, thanks... ;-

Many many thanks,

BMW

PS can we forbid any live reporting via Twatter on the grounds that
well, it's for t2ats?
