2024-06-18 Thread sarah hughes
Hi Cathy

I do have a question for you, if you don't mind; well 2 actually!
The 1st is that I usually pin the Legacy site to my task bar, but should I
also use those 2 Customize options that you suggest?
Secondly, I noticed when I was trawling through my folders and files, that
there are an awful lot from the past, ie Legacy 9, in various folder
formats. None of them will open when I try, so can I just delete them all,
and just keep ones from Legacy 10? TIA

Regards, Sarah

I am sorry if I was rude to you, but I usually am computer-savvy, but I
just found this very frustrating. That sample is still in the list, but I
guess it's there for a reason. Your original email regarding downloading
Legacy 10 was very helpful, and the only thing that I had no problem doing!
Once again, I apologize.

It was unfair what she said to me. I am actually quite computer-savvy, but
I was so frustrated by the whole thing. I did say thank you to everyone who
had tried to assist me, and that includes Cathy. Her first email about
downloading Legacy 10 was very helpful, but that was never the problem. It
took me a while but at least I got it sorted.

I have finally got my FT back! After clicking on practically every
file/folder on my laptop to try and get one of the Sample ones to open, I
finally did. But when I went through all the list my tree still wasn't
there. Then I just clicked on something to refresh the list of recent files
and the 3rd one was my tree! A box popped up to ask me to transfer stuff to
Legacy 10, and Voila!
Thank you all for trying to help me.

I do know my way around my computer, and that is a totally unnecessary and
nasty thing to say. I did click on the link for lost files, but because I
now don't have Legacy 9 or 10 on my computer there is no blue circle or any
Legacy screen to find any files. I have often used the list of files before
to find the right one, but when there is no legacy screen at all, that is
impossible. I would have thought you would understand that.
I have sent an email to support, and let's hope that they reply without any

I thought I saved it to Google Drive, but can't find it, and so am
systematically going through every folder. I really do wish that when I had
found my Legacy 9, I just stuck with it! Do you thing either uninstalling
and reinstalling could help (tho I guess not), or restoring pc to earlier
time might help?

Thank you

Re: [LegacyUG] Tips for Updating to Legacy 10

2024-06-17 Thread sarah hughes
Hi

Found my FT eventually, installed Legacy 10, but now I have no Legacy tree
again! I wish I'd stuck with the old one. I went to the folder where I had
saved it, and zilch! Only that silly sample file comes up. I did try
restart but that didn't help. Should I uninstall it, and then reinstall it,
or put PC back to an earlier time? I will also look through all the other
emails re Legacy 10, and see if there is anything there to help me. Thank
you

Re: [LegacyUG] Tips for Updating to Legacy 10

2024-06-15 Thread sarah hughes
But my problem is that I can't update to Legacy 10, because I don't have
Legacy 9 to upgrade it from. Sure, I could install Legacy 10, but then I
would still have no tree there. I could create a gedcom from my Genes
reunited tree, but as someone said, gedcom is the last resort! I have an
external hard-drive plugged into my laptop, so perhaps it might be on
there. But if it's gone from the laptop, it will probably be gone from
there too!
Should I reset laptop to an earlier time and see if it reappears, perhaps?
Thank you, Sarah

I have just opened my Legacy 9 from the task bar where I keep it attached,
and to my horror my whole family tree has disappeared! All I get is that
silly sample one, and I have gone through the list that Legacy gave me, but
none of them come up with my tree. Even where I had it saved in my computer
files, there are just 2 sample files of that other silly tree. Please help.
as I need to upgrade to 10, but how can I when my tree has just disappeared
from everywhere? I was only using it the other day! Would resetting my
laptop to an earlier time help, please? It is Windows 11, and I had the
free Legacy 9 edition.

[LegacyUG] ***SPAM*** Re: ***SPAM*** Re: ***SPAM*** Re: ***SPAM*** Re: ***SPAM*** RE: A question about FAG numbers

2024-02-03 Thread sarah hughes
Sorry, but one last thing that I would like to add. Even though one of my
g-grandmothers died in Sussex, Uk, and she was buried there, she is still
mentioned on the grave-stone of her husband. My g-grandfather (her husband)
died decades earlier, and was buried in a graveyard in Romsey, Hampshire,
Uk where they were living at the time. However, there was a mention of his
wife on his gravestone, even though she died much later in Sussex.

Re: [LegacyUG] File savng and charting

2023-12-28 Thread sarah hughes
Thanks so much for your help, Cathy, especially since it was originally
someone's else's query
I clicked the big blue "L" as you suggested, and it worked. It showed two
sample files, anyone with my name, so Ican get to it easily.
I might still look into Option, from top menu, and then 1.2, and see if
there is somewhere to save my family tree, for all time!

Kind regards, Sarah

Re: [LegacyUG] File savng and charting

2023-12-27 Thread sarah hughes
I have had the same problem for ages, when it comes opening your file
afresh. I thought that changing to a new laptop, but no. Mine always seems
to open to the sample tree Goeff's, which is no help to me. So then it is a
game of hit and miss, until I find my own tree. I guess it must ne
saved somewhere, and at the moment I just find the correct file, and carry
on. But it is a bit annoying!

Re: [LegacyUG] Problem with Check/Repair

2020-09-21 Thread sarah hughes
Sorry. I found something similar lately when there was a dispute about
where a subject's father was actually buried. On Google it came up with one
on FAG, but when I went there and logged in, I found that the individual
seemed to have 2 different headstones in 2 different cemetaries, albeit 2
cemetaries near each other in the same town. We know for a fact (as have
seen it) which entry seems to be correct, but it is still rather worrying
and confusing!

Quite right Roberta. I have found 3 children in the same family, of
different ages, all baptized at the same time, a few months after the
youngest one's birth. This was in a village in Devon, UK in the 1800s.

Hi

I also just use the Legacy Cloud. When I got a 2nd laptop (for friends/
family tho still use it myself) I wanted Legacy on that too, so got a tip
off this group and now use their Cloud.
I do, however. also have my tree on Genes Reunited, and I have an external
hard drive backed up to this laptop.

All the best, Sarah Hughes

able to do this with a 2nd laptop, but can't remember how.

Re: [LegacyUG] Census

2018-01-17 Thread sarah hughes
Another time I found a Pinsent ancestor staying with her aunt and uncle on
census night, also by name of Pinsent, in a nearby Devon hamlet, but she
was listed as another of their children; hardly surprising with the same
surname and similar age. It took me ages to work out what had happened!

Re: [LegacyUG] Census

I agree with that. I used to find family members at the "wrong" address so
many times on census night, I almost thought they were doing it
deliberately!

Re: [LegacyUG] Potential Problem Notification

2017-11-23 Thread sarah hughes
I am forever getting this "error". Sometimes it is because there are births
I've yet to discover and haven't yet filled in all the gaps, but quite
often it doesn't seem to understand that there CAN be more than a year
between each child! It is annoying, but my advice is, unless they change
this notification, which I hope they do, to just ignore it!
