win2000 and xp already have the all drivers
installed--you do not need to install any. you will
need to uninstall the floppy driver you installed and
try installing the floppy then. if it does not work
you will need to reinstall 2000 in a new diretory and
then unistall the old installation because you have
screwed up the windows kernel

1) format the HD, then install everything correctly from scratch. worked
fine
on my Libretto.
Kind of an extreme course of action just to get a floppy drive working isn't
it?

2) delete the floppy drive with bad drivers in the device manager, locate
the
*.inf file for the floppy drive in the \windows directory or
subdirectories,
open it up, find all files (drivers) that it will use that will be copied
to
the windows directory, then delete all referenced files + the *.inf file
and
reboot. that'll usually get rid of all bad/old drivers completely.
Those would be:
C:\Windows\inf\Tsfdc.inf
C:\Windows\inf\other\Y-E Dataflbfd.inf
And there's no files referenced in them.
The FDD entry in DM only reported 2 files being used to enable the FDD:
C:\Windows\System\iosubysy\Flbfd.pdr
C:\Windows\System\VMM32\IOS.vxd
In order to find out what other files Windows might look to for
alternatives, I had to start disabling them one by one starting with
Flbfd.pdr, and attempt reinstalling the drivers. Windows wasn't happy with
>any< of my attempts to disable things to get it to accept the drivers I
pointed it to, and would merrily go on it's own way to find one after
another after another file it thought should do the job.

I did track down all the .inf files I could find by going through that
process David, plus a couple other types of files. And after disabling
everything Windows threw at me, it ended up pretending it had found a
non-existing Flbfd.pdr in a non-existing location as reported in DM. At
that point I gave up, and was glad when it only took me a couple of heart
attacks before I managed to get my original
C:\Windows\System\iosubysy\Flbfd.pdr driver file working again.

It just >two< sliiy files! Why is it so hard to get them working?
I'm guessing that John had probably still beating his head against the wall
trying to resolve this issue on his Libby.

I'll post this, and then try again using the instructions in the README in
the L110FDD8.exe archive Lee pointed to.
Oh man... I tried all kinds of approaches too numerous for me to document
right now. In the end I failed miserably at each. I restored the file
names for the original FDD drivers I had renamed to disable them, and for a
moment after rebooting thought I'd really $#%!ed my own setup. Windows 98SE
wants to fall back on a driver named "Toshiba PCMCIA Floppy' which I wasn't
able to make operational.

But with my original drivers in place, I went to the error icon for the FDD
driver in DM, went to Properties > Update driver > Update Wizard > Search
for a better driver > Specify location (my path was already there). The
next window reported I already had the best driver installed. But I
selected the 2nd option below which was something like "Select other
location". In there was an option to set up the "Y-E Data External FDD
(Libretto)" with the correct path to the folder with my extracted FDD
drivers. Because I just restored the correct file names, the floppy finally
was re-enabled. These were the driver files I renamed to disable:

C:\Windows\System\iosubysy\Flbfd.pdr
C:\Windows\Cabs\Flbfd.pdr
I had tried that same method several times, but I had disabled the existing
files by renaming them to Flbfd.pd_, and the process failed to enable the
FDD each time. With the original file names corrected, the drive finally
was re-enabled.

The only two files the L100 FDD seems to have set up to work are:
C:\Windows\System\iosubysy\Flbfd.pdr
C:\Windows\System\VMM32\IOS.vxd
But IOS.vxd is needed for more than just the FDD. I renamed it, and Windows
failed to boot complaining it was missing. I had to rename it in DOS and
reboot.

So I don't know what the answer is for setting up the correct Win98(SE) L100
FDD drivers once the incorrect drivers are installed. After removing the
driver in DM and attempting to install new ones, Windows continually
auto-finds several drivers that always fail to enable the FDD. Even when I
disabled the last file Windows was finding, C:\Windows\inf\other\Y-E
Datafldfd.inf, and finally getting Windows to access it's \Win98 files and
ask for the correct path to the drivers, it still didn't set up that
Flbfd.pdr file where it had been originally working. The result was an
error icon in DM, and details on the drivers showed a path to a non-existant
Flbfd.pdr with no path at all in front of it. And it wasn't in the C: root.
I tried putting one there and rebooting, but that failed too.

Maybe someone else has worked this all out. I'd sure like to know what the
answer is for future reference.

From: "Matthew Hanson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Re: [LIB] Libretto floppy drive install?
Hmmm... It seems my long post on this floppy the other night didn't make it
to the list.

I attempted to uninstall, and then reinstall the FDD drivers on my L100 the
other night. But using files from 3 different FDD driver packages, I failed
to get any to install.

I used the process I outlined previously to try installing drivers from
L100FDD8.zip (I said .exe before, but it's a .zip file), L110FDD8.exe that
contains files that match the ones Lee reported, and L100ctrl.exe that
Toshiba support lists as "Toshiba Windows 95 Controls for Libretto 100CT".
It was the last package there that I've been using to set up the FDD for the
L100.

But every time Windows rebooted, it would go ahead and set up the same
drivers that had previously been installed. Device Manager hadn't deleted
them when I removed the FDD driver entry. So I renamed the one file it was
reporting:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS\Flbfd.pdr
Short story, it found a couple of backups at reboot, and set them up
automatically.

I renamed those, and on reboot, I was told the drivers had been successfully
installed. But looking at the paths for the driver in DM, there was no such
Flbfd.pdr where it was pointing. And each time, the drivers I pointed the
"New hardware found" window to didn't get installed. And the FDD wasn't
operational.

Then I tried "Add new hardware" from Control Panel for each of the 3 sets of
FDD drivers I have. Each time Windows complained that the drivers I pointed
to weren't the correct ones for the FDD. It would then go ahead and either
set up a non-existing lbfd.pdr, leaving an error icon for the FDD in DM, or
find one I hadn't renamed.

In the end, I had to rename the original Flbfd.pdr file back to its default
to get the FDD to work again.

I'll post this, and then try again using the instructions in the README in
the L110FDD8.exe archive Lee pointed to. The one in my L100FDD8.zip didn't
make any sense, wanting to install the driver from a floppy in the FDD in
Windows before any FDD driver was loaded! But the one in L110FDD8.exe says
to merely right click on TSBFLBFD.INF, and choose "Install". Sounds simple.
 Let's see.

I guess I would disagree. When I set up W98se on my L100, the floppy drive
was unusable except under DOS - and I had installed the W95 utilities
package -
until I installed the W98 L110 FDD driver.

This FDD driver listed under the L110 drivers at the Tosh site has been
used
on even the L50/70 running W98, IIRC, by some listers in the past (Neil?).
It's functionality is not exclusive to the L110, or the L1xx series,
apparently.

There's no .bat file to run for this L110 FDD driver, just unzip it, read
the
readme, do what it says to do - voila! But as usual, if there are any
other
FDD drivers installed ahead of it, they must be deleted ("removed") through
Device Manager first, otherwise bad things will transpire.

IIRC, the Toshiba W98 FDD driver is a zipped file that, when unzipped,
contains a readme file with explicit instructions on driver installation.
As I recall, it's not completely straightforward. You may need to delete
whatever may have showed up in Device Manager from your first attempt
before proceeding.

Am I mistaken in assuming that what's needed is the Windows 98 floppy disk
driver, listed only under the L110CT drivers on the Tosh support pages? I
don't believe that the W95 FDD driver will give the functionality needed
under W98.

The driver file I'm looking at is identified as "L110FDD8.exe", listed
under
the L110CT drivers,

Huh... to make things fuzzier, I have a file named 'L100FDD8.exe', not
'L110FDD8.exe', in my Libretto driver archives, but I don't remember where I
got it or why I stopped using it. The Toshiba USA driver download pages are
a bit %#*!ed up, as there's nothing listed specifically for Win95/98 floppy
drivers among the L100 driver downloads. Thus the confusion.

In the past serveral months I had benen setting up and troubleshooting that
dead L110 MB, swapping the L100 & L110 MBs and setting up W98SE numerous
times. Somewhere along the way when setting up the FDD, I started to
heading to the folder on my G: drive where I'd extracted the drivers from
the archive 'L100ctrl.exe' called 'Toshiba Windows 95 Controls for Libretto
100CT' on the Toshiba download pages, and it's been working fine. The FDD
doesn't seem to be very particular about drivers.

But it seems any of the drivers we've mentioned should install fine by going
through the process I outlined. I've don't recall running any such .bat
file as John described.

The driver file I'm looking at is identified as "L110FDD8.exe", listed
under
the L110CT drivers, and it's described by Toshiba as a self-extracting zip
file. This is the one I used, and have had no problems, with W98se on a

BTW, the Tosh support page is now including the U100 as a choice when
selecting the Libretto category. There's nothing really there yet but a

generic service bulletins, and a users manual.

Yes, it's a zipped file (fddrv_l110_101.zip) but it hasn't any readme files in

FLBFD.INF

And like I said, when I run the .bat file, it copies some files thru dos command

* Shut the system down

* Boot the system.
* When the "New Hardware Found" window pops up, select the "Search for

* On the next window, >make sure the option to search the A: floppy drive is

you can browse to the folder where you put the Lib controls drivers, and
select it. Then just proceed with the process and you should be set.
