RE: Movie transparency

2003-01-30 Thread Jeremy
That's what I'm trying to do, but it goes back to my original question,
when I key out the background in after effects the background color
shows through, but I want transparency and not a background color, and
AFX doesn't have an option to set the background to transparent, and I'd
rather not do it manually for thousands of images. Anyone know how to do
this in After effects or how to do it in another app?

Using an ink in Director would work, but it wouldn't be as flexible (and
probably not as fast) as using 32 bit images. I would save the frames
as 32bit TIFs or PNGs (so that their alpha channels dictate their
transparency), and then import them into Director.

Nyet. It happens in channel 1 too on my machine. D8, WinNT 4 SP6, hacked
version of DirectX 5 to make it run on WinNT. I've placed an internal sound
member on the score and set it to looping. Haven't tried channel 2 yet.
Haven't got another NT machine to test it on either.

Thanks. For the info.. but it was actually much simplier than this..I've
played with the direct to stage thing.. I've ticked it off and it appears to
be working.. I've tried it over and over.. it seems fine.. now...

Thanks for for your help though...

Try increasing your quality some, and increase the frequency of your
keyframes (at 5 fps, try putting a keyframe at least every 5 or 10 frames).
See if that helps any.

Thanks Buzz, but unfortunately that doesn't do it for me. It assumes
that you know how many hot spots you have, or at least the highest
numbered hotspot. And since I'm trying to write a general behavior,
I won't know that.

I see the list there, but it doesn't look like it has the ability to
do what I need.

Hi Irv -

Hav you tried this one (using a repeat loop to run thru the hotSpotIDs)?

enableHotSpot(whichQTVRSprite, hotSpotID, trueOrFalse)

'QTVR Sprites' in the Lingo-by-Feature dropdown in the script or
message windows appears to have about 20 related QTVR
functions/commands.

note: almost all of them have no 'See Also' links in the actual the
Help system, so you'll probably have to examine them all to get a
feel for how the individuals of this 'set' work together and maybe
to find any ones that are missing from the button's dropdown (such
as '.isVRMovie', which certainly seems like a relevant QTVR property
to me.)

2. not fixed recently (as far as I know).
There are many workarounds & this issue doesn't effect that many folks.
I'd rather see (a) MIAWs to not have to SHARE their sounds channels
with the stage movie & other MIAWs and (b) the overall number of
sound channels increased.

3. some workarounds

- quick & dirty:
use channels 1 or 2 (unfortunately, these already might be in use for
other sounds)

- more fancy/useful/flexible (great for small loops):
copy the sound member from the MIAW to the stage movie & then tell
the stage movie to play/loop it using any channel. This has the
advantage of the stage actually knowing that it's playing a sound in
that channel (sound().isBusy() becomes true). It can them fade it
out after some time has passed, etc.

RE: Movie transparency

2003-01-30 Thread Jeremy
I made a completely green map for a game, and outputted bitmap sequences
of some demos I recorded, because I just want the models. What I want to
do is key out the green, which I have done in after effects, but I want
a transparent background in the sequence when I render it back out into
a png sequence, so I can use just the model animation as an overlay for
another image, but I don't want to render the image into the sequence,
because I want it to be a variable image within director. Any ideas?

To the best of my knowledge, and despite QT having alpha or transparency
in
their spec, you cannot actually have transparent, alpha-like behaviour
from
QT. You can mask, but not transparency.

Maybe instead of trying to answer your question I should ask you to be
more
specific: do you care what kind of video it is, do you mean 1-bit
masking,
or true 256 level alpha, etc.?

I THINK that this only happens if you use sound channel 1 or 2. If you use
3-8, the sound isn't interrupted by creating or forgetting a MIAW.

Give it a try, at least.

Try increasing your quality some, and increase the frequency of your
keyframes (at 5 fps, try putting a keyframe at least every 5 or 10 frames).
See if that helps any.

RE: setting text to EMPTY

2003-01-30 Thread MMCR
Check out the .rtf property of a text member.

So if you set a text member to Arial, Bold 14 you get this stored in the
.rtf property. If you store that in a global or property in a Behavior
and use it to reset the text member you will maintain your styling.

{\rtf1\ansi\deff0 {\fonttbl{\f0\fswiss
Arial;}}{\colortbl\red0\green0\blue0;\red0\green0\blue224;\red224\green0
\blue0;\red224\green0

\margt1440 \margb1440 \pard \f0\fs24{\b\fs28\par
}}

Hope that helps

Set the font-forms in Lingo code somewhere in moviescript
'StartMovie'...to be
asure. or in some pre-script or in handle 'on beginsprite' before the
very
score-script..where your looping scripts are..
And correct the fonts from arroundings of the files.. so you get them
right. (Have used 'delete' also for fields..) etc.

Better yet, if I knew how to "watch" (in Lingo, e.g. in exitFrame)
the progress of playback in the series of currently queued sounds.

Look at sound getplaylist. That should list the remaining queued

RE: Can I use a xtra so I won't have to install Quicktime?

2003-01-30 Thread MMCR
You are confusing QuickTime with video playback. If you want to just
play MPEG or AVI's then the directMedia Xtra can do that but it will
only work on PC's with DirectX installed (pretty much all PC's have this
though NT4 might not) and does not require QuickTime. If you want to
play back Sorenson via this Xtra you must make sure they have the codec
installed for this on their PC, you can probably get an installer for it
somewhere . The directMedia Xtra web site is http://xtras.tabuleiro.com

RE:Miaw transparent / close opening movie

2003-01-30 Thread Robin Pereira
hi all,

I've got a movie which opens a transparent background miaw and I have two
question to ask.

1. I have a forget() command on the miaw and would also like to close the
movie which opened it at the same time?

2. I would also like to have sliding panels that open on the fly in the
traz/background miaw. is it possible to somehow animate the 1bit mask member
to copy the changes I would make to the interface. I haven't done any
imaging lingo but have looked at the coypixel command and believe it may be
possible??

any ideas/help/samples

thanks in advance.
