Hi Stephan, Yes, I upgraded to Yosemite. I found out that including the files works when I start LyX from the console. Error converting to loadable format
Hello, I recently upgraded to Lyx 2.1.2.1. When I opened an existing file that has figures embedded as PDFs, I get the error message "Error converting to loadable format". Before the upgrade everything worked fine. Do you have any ideas what the problem could be and how I could solve it? Thanks for all suggestions. Andreas

So, e.g., in this case, you'd want either LyX-2.0.6-Bundle-2.exe or LyX-2.0.6-Installer-2.exe. I believe the former contains everything you need to run LyX, whereas the latter downloads what it needs? I'm not sure. I never know whether to uninstall the previous version. Re: PDF error converting to loadable format
Thanks for this. By following your instructions I managed to a) see the pdf in lyx on screen and b) generate a DVI file. But the place where the pdf should be is empty. If however I c) try to generate a pdf from pdflatex, lyx just goes into an endless loop, from which I can only exit by forcing a program quit. No PDF preview in LyX: "Error converting to loadable format"
Hi, I allow myself to ask the lyx user list one more question before I become an expert :-) I am using LyX 1.6.4, the Complete Alternative Windows installation. When I insert PDF document in a figure float, LyX gives me the message "Error converting to loadable format". I have entered the Tools->Preferences dialog and the Converters pane, but no luck here. Is there a way to get around this problem or is it simply a bug? Best regards Bjørn Liene Gundersen

ImageMagick 6.5.1-3 was released 5 days ago, so it seems that you have installed it manually. Perhaps while doing this something went wrong, perhaps the ImageMagick version that is installed with LyX still has some registry entries. But this is hard to say from here, so I propose to - uninstall ImageMagick - then uninstall Ghostscript - then uninstall LyX _completely_ (leave Aspell as it is) - finally reinstall LyX It should then work. regards Uwe
Error converting to loadable format
Greetings I've just upgraded from lyx 1.5.7-1 to 1.6.2-1. I am having problems to visualize .eps figures inserted in the text. This is happening both with figures already inserted in the text edited on 1.5.7-1, as well as for new figures that I try to insert using 1.6.2-1. Inside the Graphics box, I get the name of the .eps file and below it the message: Error converting to loadable format The problem is only with picture visualization in the lyx GUI. If I generate a pdf file, the pictures do appear in the generated pdf. Some system configuration info: Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2 2.00 GB RAM with Physical Address Extension Aspell 0.6 Ghostscript 8.61 ImageMagick 6.5.1-3 Q16 (2009-05-01) Thanks in advance for any help. Re: Error converting to loadable format for EPS
I have the same problem. However, only with SOME eps files. In my case EPS files generated by Matlab just don't show in LyX, but those from some other sources do show in LyX (for example those in the user guide). My only workaround has been to convert the EPS into PDF manually (in OS X just use preview). If you need to export as LaTeX/eps, you can just export as pdflatex, but compile with plain latex (if you export as plain latex, LyX will try to convert the PDF files back to EPS and overwrite the original files).

Do you have the bin directories for GS and IM on your system command path in XP (and whatever the analog is called in OS/X)? If not, you might try adding them to the command path and then reconfiguring/restarting LyX. /Paul

That should work on any well-formed .eps file, but dvipdfm doesn't do other formats. pdflatex naturally does other formats than .eps and "convert" from Imagemagick is called when pdflatex is chosen as your viewing mode when there is an included .eps image in the .lyx file needing conversion. Andre, thanks a lot for the quick answer, which proved successful. $PATH issue turned out true, although I had logged out and in. But setting .MacOSX/environment.plist's PATH to the shell's path solved the problem. The interesting thing now is, even after deleting that PATH from envrionment.plist (and logging out/in and reconfiguring LyX etc.), the pics show up fine. EPS error converting to loadable format (lyx-1.3.6, Mac X10.4.2)
Dear list, after unsucessfully searching the list for remedies, I am afraid to bother you regarding this apparently well-known error. System: lyx-1.3.6 with fink TeTeX/Ghostscript/ImageMagick on Mac OS X 10.4.2 (german) with UI language set to english The problem is very weird: - When starting LyX from the Finder, no image is displayed, with the dreadful "error converting to loadable format" shown. Testcase is the Help- >Extended Features file (moebius.eps in chapter 3.8) - OTOH, when starting lyx in the terminal from the application package (with or without the "-dbg graphics"), then lyx presents the *german* interface, and all images appear fine. What I have already tried: - Path in both .MacOSX/environment.plist and Lyx->Preferences->Paths- >PATH prefix includes /sw/bin - Link /sw/bin/convert to /usr/local/bin/convert - created an eps to png converter ("/sw/bin/convert -depth 8 $$i $ $o") in Preferences - Entered this converter also in the "preferences" file in the Application package (Application Support/LyX/preferences of course has it already) - Changed "defaultConvert.sh" so that convert has absolute path (/sw/ bin/convert). Any further ideas? TIA, Kei. P.S. Please include me in the reply mail since I am not subscribed to the list. Thanks.

I've just added a note of this fix on the Wiki "windows setup" page since it's cropped up a few times of late. Ammend as required! Rob S . Can anyone tell me what is going wrong and how do I proceed? How come the jpg and bmp work? Have a look here at this earlier thread: http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-users@lists.lyx.org/msg37551.html A minor script edit is required. "error converting to loadable format" on lyx 1.3.5 WinXP
Hi, My lyx for windows does not display graphics in the editor window (they come out OK in the dvi). I get the error message "error converting to loadable format". This happens with eps, tiff and gif (my Linux lyx has no problems with these graphics) while bmp and jpg work OK. I have checked that "sh" and "convert" are in the path. Below is the relevant output from lyx -dbg graphics, after which I attach a copy of the default convert script convertDefault.sh. I have also typed the exact command in the command line and it FAILED, BUT when I changed the output file to "ppm:c:/tmp/a.ppm" instead of the file in the lyx tmp_dir the command works (the lyx tmp_dir existed while I tried this). Can anyone tell me what is going wrong and how do I proceed? How come the jpg and bmp work? thanks. After reinstalling Ghostscript(use version AFPL 8.14 NOT version GPL 8.15) and then imagemagick, reconfigure LyX. I have been trying to insert a graphic (an .eps figure) for the first time. But when I insert the figure I get an 'error converting to loadable format'. This is the same message I get for the figures in my user guide. That is the problem described above. If it won't work after reinstalling Ghostscript, start LyX from a command line with lyx -dbg 3 to get some useful background informations and post them again on this list. I have tried to change the converters but to no success. Initially there was no eps converter on my list. I have added eps to png with the converter 'my_ps2png $$i $$o' modify, save, reconfigure etc but to no avail. DON'T define own converters on LyXWin! This causes only troubles because there are some ugly bugs in LyXWin. Use only the predefined converters. For all other image formats, LyX uses a script ConverDefault.sh that calls Imagemagick to convert them. regards Uwe

Did you install imagemagick? Is imagemagick in your path? Technically, you shouldn't *need* ImageMagick. See here for how loading of figures works in LyX: http://wiki.lyx.org/pmwiki.php/LyX/FiguresInLyX Practially, Windows users have reported problems when using anything other than the default converter, convertDefault.sh, which is indeed a wrapper for ImageMagick's 'convert' utility. If you decide to use this default, then you should ensure that the 'correct' convert is called. I understand that there is a system utility called 'convert' on Win32 boxes, so you should ensure that the ImageMagick directory is the first entry in your PATH. As for your specific problems using your specialised converter, my_pstopng... I wish I could help more than I can. As I say, other Windows users have reported problems using anything other than convertDefault.sh. I have no idea why. In truth, I'm baffled by these reports. Does your script get called? Add echo "Hi, my_pstopng here!" as the first line of your script, just to check. Regards, -- Angus

Win32 qt LyX 1.3.2; jpg eps error converting to loadable format
Hello, I installed the Win32 qt LyX 1.3.2 and it is fast (compared to the cygwin version 1.3.0). I have a problem with on-screen images. png files are displayed, but jpg and eps are not shown. I get the following error message displayed instead of the images "error converting to loadable format". (The same document displays fine in the 1.3.0 cygwin version) I ran "lyx -dbg 3" and things seem normal. When the "error converting to loadable format" message appears in the image I expected to see some error meassage in the command window, but nothing appears. If someone could point me in the right direction to solve this I would appreciate it very much. Do I need to set some conversion parameters for the images? (If I get the native qt version to work as nicely as the cygwin version I think I can start convincing people around me to learn lyx/latex (including my professor). ) Thanks for a great software. jorgen

Error converting to loadable format
Hi all, I'm faced to a mistery. I have 2 Linux systems, one at work and the other at home. Both are SuSE 8.0 and both have Ghostscript 6.53, xforms 0.89 and ImageMagick 5.4.2. In both I have compiled and installed LyX 1.2.2 from the sources. In both I can see included .jpg figures. However, in the one at work I can see the included .eps figures while in the one at home I constantly get 'Error converting to loadable format' and the figure won't display in LyX. Which puzzles me most is that recently I installed LyX version 1.3.0pre2 with the qt frontend (which, by the way, looks great and has compiled and it's been working so far without hassle) and the same thing happens: I can see the .eps's in the system at work but not in the system at home. I'd like to hear suggestions so as to what to check and get the damm thing working. Thanks. -- Dr. Luis A. Fernández Department of Analytical Chemistry University of The Basque Country P.O.
