HTML export: some small problems...
Hi, I am trying the HTML export possibilities of LyX. I have the last version of Elyxer installed on my Mac (OSX 10.6 French) and I use Lyx 2.0.1. I am preparing a page where I would like to set the text colour and use an horizontal rule in some places. I used the Document Properties/Coulours tab to fix the implicit colour of text in my document, but when the file is exported to HTML by Elyxer, the texte is black (the same is also true for LyxHTML export). I have inserted an horizontal rule in the page, but I get in the HTML the Lyx code instead of the rule: \begin_inset CommandInset lineLatexCommand ruleoffset 0.5exwidth 100col%height 1pt\end_inset Am I doing something stupid, or am I demanding too much from Elyxer? I Have used Latex2HTML under Linux some years ago and this kind of cosmetics was a piece of cake for it... I have never used it under OSX and I like the HTML generated by Elyxer otherwise. I know that I can correct these problems by hand or by CSS editing, but would like to know if I can handle them directly in Lyx, instead of having to da another step of conversion (especially because I am using Lyx to quickly setup a web page from existing material in Latex and Lyx. Yes, I am very late on this task, and trying to catch the gap :-) ). latex2html equivalent of Windows HTML export?
Hi there, I use Lyx on both Linux and Windows, and I have tried all the HTML export options, including Elyxer. I like the Windows HTML export option the best, and I want to be able to produce HTML on Linux the same as the Windows HTML export does. I assume the Windows HTML export uses latex2html with a bunch of options. If so, does anybody know which options it uses? Is the Windows export method listed somewhere? I'm sure if I put a lot of time into customizing latex2html I'd get output that's on part with Windows export, but the next couple weeks I'm tight on time. The closest I've been able to come to producing Windows export results with latex2html still has the following undesirable features: (1) eqnarray images are not centered (2) horizontal rules are not produced (3) quotation marks look clunky like Tex quotes, not nice pretty ones. Thanks very much in advance! --Andrew

Thanks very much in advance! --Andrew Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by "windows HTML export" but I wouldn't assume it's latex2html. You can look it up for yourself by firing up LyX and going to the menu Tools > Preferences > File Handling > Converters. On my windows box I see that the LaTeX to HTML converter is htlatex. To get the same HTML output on Linux it might be as simple as installing htlatex (or whatever converter is set up on your windows box), running the configure.py script (Tools > Reconfigure), and restarting LyX. -- Julien
Re: latex2html equivalent of Windows HTML export?
Sounds great, I'll try this. Thanks for your fast reply Julien!

Will the upcoming export to HTML support making separate web pages for each subsection and provide overall navigation (in the manner of latex2html) ? John O'Gorman

html export - several files.
I'm trying to export a book to html. If I use the default converter (htlatex) with no addtional configuration, it will create a single gigantic file. However, I would like to export to several files, each containing a single chapter. I went to Tools - Preferences... - File Handling - Converters - LaTeX (plain) - HTML and tried to change the command line: htlatex $$i to htlatex $$i html,2,info but it won't save the change. Perhaps there's bug on the preferences dialog? Is there a way to make this change manually? Thank you. -- Rudi Gaelzer Department of Physics Institute of Physics and Mathematics Federal University of Pelotas BRAZIL Registered linux user # 153741

HTML-Export on Windows
Hello, think it would be nice, to sum up how a LyX-file can be exported to HTML under WIN, it works difficultly in my case (LyX 1.5.5): Method 1 (long-winded if there are many pictures - has anybody a better idea?!?): But: It produces a good output! - make sure, that every picture is available in a .jpg or .png - format (Maybe it's enough to have a format that can be read by lyx and a html-browser) - Export the LyX-file via Latex (Plain) - Copy the resulting .tex-file (filename.tex) into an extra-directory - move in the commandline of Windows (german: Eingabeaufforderung) to that extra-directory - type htlatex filename.tex - Open the resulting html-file (filename.html) in a browser Problem: the quality of the pictures may be worse than the original ones, so do this: - Open the sourcecode of the filename.html in a text-editor (parallel to the browser) - Copy the original PNG- or JPG-pictures into the created extra-directory - Find the names of the pictures in the browser and replace these names with the name or the original picture (for all pictures) - After finishing save the modified sourcecode under a different filename (filename-modified.html - just for safety) - Open the modified .html-file with the browser: The quality of the pictures should match the quality of the originals now. {Method 2 (does'nt work in my case, the pictures and converted formulas are not displayed because the pictures seem to be saved nowhere): Convert with LyX (htlatex $$iwith additional flag needaux)} {Method 3 (does'nt work in my case because the latex2html-package can not be found): Convert with LyX (latex2html -no_subdir -no_navigation -split 0 -show_section_numbers $$i with additional flag needaux)} I found the last method in a (german) LyX-Manual - maybe that should be updated. WOULD BE VERY NICE, IF SOMEONE COULD SUM UP HIS SUCCESSFUL METHODS TO CONVERT INTO HTML UNDER WINDOWS! ANY HINTS TO INCLUDE URLS (probably it's written somewhere, but I didn't look for it until now)? Another option would be to create a small sample LaTeX document with the correct syntax and then import this into LyX -- if all goes well, the ERT will occure at the right place. Good luck Günter

Re: Including alternate text for figures on HTML export
Given the lack of response I assume there is no easy answer to this, however, with help elsewhere it seems that this can be done with tex4ht which is part of the Mactex distribution. This is done with one of the following commands 1\Picture[replacement-for-textual-browser]{file-name attributes} 2 \Picture+[replacement-for-text-browsers]{file-name attributes} content\EndPicture 3 \Picture*[replacement-for-text-browsers]{file-name attributes} content\EndPicture This leads me to additional questions. 1. what program does lyx use for the HTML conversion (on the Mac), I presume it tells me on the wiki somewhere but I can't find it. 2. I have tried several ways of using command 1 above to try and add the alt text into the graphics latex options, but get compile errors. the commands are obviously meant for tex4ht, but I thought I would give it a try.. 3. Assuming tex4ht isn't one of the two HTML export options in Lyx, can I add it as an export option menu item. Thanks, Graham On 28 Feb 2008, at 14:47, Graham Smith wrote: Before exporting from Lyx to HTML, is there a way of providing alternate text for the figures. Re: HTML export, hyperlink doesn't work in LYX 1.4.3
I have compiled LYX 1.4.3 on a redhat Linux machine from source, and have deleted my previous $home/.lyx directory so it should be like a fresh installation. The problem is I found that when having inserted some URLs by Insert-URL..., then View-HTML or export to HTML, the URL never got an underline, nor is it clickable. And I found checking the box Generate hyperlink when inserting URL has no effect on the result. No matter I did it or not, the output Latex file doesn't change, it always produces a \url{my inserted url string}. I found an ugly fix that first write \usepackage{html} in document preamble, and then insert a Latex code box(ERT), writing in it \htmlurl{my url}{desc. for the link} will produce a clickable hyperlink.
