RE: Attention All Amazon Prime Subscribers
This is great info, Donna. I had no idea. I am going to share this on our other 2 lists so that Audible subscribers may use this method to explore the Amazon universe from the Audible app, as well as from the Kindle app. Mark -Original Message- From: 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries Sent: Saturday, February 26, 2022 6:59 AM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Attention All Amazon Prime Subscribers Hi all, Thanks, Mark, for this tip. These are titles in the Audio Plus category, which means they are free to you as an Audible subscriber. When I first learned about this, I dismissed it, because it seemed like a lot of the freebies were just podcasts. But when I looked more closely, I saw that there are some interesting titles included. For example, after watching The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix, I was able to download the audio book for free. If you’re looking for a specific book, and want to see if it’s in your Audio Plus catalog, go to the Discover tab, and then tap Search. Attention All Amazon Prime Subscribers
Hello Everyone, I am posting this because I recently discovered a new resource for accessing / downloading newly released and more, Audible audiobooks at no additional charge to Prime subscribers. Please understand that there is a great deal about Amazon and Amazon prime benefits that many find rather confusion, including me, so I am just going to relay my experience and in no way am I posting as an expert. Okay, the other day, I saw an advertisement for a newly released collection of short stories that were published on Kindle, only, with audio narration (narration by Audible). There was a fee for the collection but the advertisement stated that Prime members could download and read the collection for free. Intrigued, I fired up my trusty iOS Kindle app and opened the Discover tab. Now remember, I'm going to keep this as simple as possible. In no way was my first experience a quick and smooth one for I had no idea of how any of this worked. Okay, after opening the Discover tab, I selected the category, "Prime Reading." There is also a "Kindle Unlimited" category, which I did not explore. I suspect that the Kindle Unlimited program is to Prime Reading as the Amazon Music Unlimited program is to Prime Music; a guess, only. Once I selected Prime Reading, a new screen was displayed. There are several sub categories to explore but, in order to search for a specific title, I selected "Browse the Catalog." On the next screen, there are two important items to note: (1) the search field and (2) the filter button. Whether you merely want to browse the catalog or search for a specific title, set the filter to "eBooks with Audible" and launch your search. All of the resulting titles will be eBooks that have Audible narration that are free for Prime members to read in Kindle and/or listen to via Audible. Of course there are many, many ways to navigate through the Prime Reading universe but the above was the method I used to get started. What I find most delightful is that I have been able to download some titles that were published for Kindle, only, and still enjoy the Audible experience without having to pay additional fees. Okay, I hope you find this useful. Happy Reading, Mark -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. Come to think of it, yes, there is. I remember looking at it when I was using the Apple TV before I boxed it back up and put it away. Re: Amazon Prime Music
I'm glad you like your Echo. I know that Amazon music was reasonably sort of accessible with iOS when I played with it but there was no way I found to get the tunes to OS X since the app for OS X was completely inaccessible when I tried it a bit ago. So I'm not sure how you'd get your library imported properly on all devices. I'm sure someone else actually got it to work. I played with it for 5 minutes and that was only because I wanted to buy an album that was $72 on CD and not available on my friendly torrent search engine or in iTunes. Getting the album out of Amazon's cloud to the computer was a pain. I ended up downloading each track one at a time from the website. Thankfully it was only 12 tracks or so. I have had no joy with the Kindle store either. Most of the books I would like to read end up being free samples unless I want to buy the hard cover. Also, I forgot my Amazon password, having only ever logged into it once, and when I went to recover it they had a bunch of captcha pages with no audio captcha and they were expecting me to call a toll free number for help. So that's more information than you probably wanted but I hope it helps you out and I hope that maybe you'll have a more joyful experience with Amazon than the one here. :) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Amazon Prime Music
Hi guys: I just received an Amazon Echo for my birthday. It is totally awesome BTW. My question is I also just discovered Amazon Prime music. Is that accessible on iOS and Safari? Can I import my iTUnes library to Amazon Prime to play on my Echo? Sarai D. Hey Jessica, You are not alone, I thought it was just me, as my cursor magically jumps around the amazon website as well. I am still running Mountain Lion on my 2010 iMac, so not sure if it is any better in Mavericks. How do you find the price of an item on amazon on the web based amazon page? Re: Is Amazon Prime not usable through the Amazon iPhone App
I think I just have to play around with it until I get there, or either find it on the main page of search results before clicking on it. The thing I have to do a lot, which I dispise when viewing an item, is VO+right arrow really quickly after the cursor jumps back up to the top of the page again, really quickly before it has a chance to do it again, and hope I can get to what I'm looking for, which is usually the description of the product, and if it's music, the sound clips, if there are any, so I can play them. I've brought this up to amazon, as well as the issues I've had with their cloud player not being accessible, pointed out everything I found wrong, and even recommended being able to sync your music downloads with the cloud player on your phone, sense Apple and pretty much everybody else allows you to do this, so they said they'd take that into consideration for their next release. Whether or not the rest will be fixed is a good question. I wanted to see if the people who are using Amazon Prime are liking it and felt it was worth it. I think the shipping alone might make it worth it, but wanted to see if the Amazon Instant Video was accessible on the iPhone, as I have read conflicting reports. I know Amazon Instant Video doesn't offer any of their titles with described video, but did want to see if the app works with VO. Also, I thought I read that you can also get one book a month from the Kindle lending group. Re: Is Amazon Prime not usable through the Amazon iPhone App
Prime isn't an option in and of itself. If you are a Prime subscriber, prime eligible items will simply be eligible for free two-day shipping and one-day shipping at $3.99 each I believe. The easiest way in the app to tell if an item is Prime eligible is if it asks you if you want it delivered by the next business day and suggests one day shipping. It will also say something like sold by and shipped from Amazon or sold by (seller name) and fulfilled by Amazon. In product searches, you can also filter results so that only prime eligible items are displayed. Respectfully, Aser Tolentino, Esq. Re: Is Amazon Prime not usable through the Amazon iPhone App
I really don't have trouble using Amazon on the Mac so I've never downloaded the Amazon app but I suppose I should try it; At least when I signed up, it did state how long the trial is and it is always 30 days. If you aren't signed up for Prime, it isn't an option though you may get an invitiation to a trial for Amazon prime. Re: Is Amazon Prime not usable through the Amazon iPhone App
There is, I actually was wondering the same thing though. They claim the 1-click buying option for example, is available via the app, but I haven't seen it, which is really upsetting to me, because I use that regularly. I love the amazon app though and am finding that easier to work with now as opposed to using the site through the computer. I've started finding now, unless it's something on my end, that using the site on my mac, the cursor seems to have a mind of its own, wants to refresh the page every minutte or so, and won't read the customer reviews portion of the pages properly anymore; it just says how many reviews there are, and how many comments their are and won't read the reviews themselves. Re: Is Amazon Prime not usable through the Amazon iPhone App
First of all, try turning off live regions in voiceover utility web navigation. Secondly, if you do get stuck and can't go beyond the main navigation area on Amazon, use your rotor instead. As for reviews, they are readable but you have to press enter first on see all or one of the stars (I think it says something like 5 stars, four stars, or maybe the number of stars and above). At any rate, once you do that the reviews should be readable. -- Cheryl I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf. I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper thrown in the trash! Hi, I love having prime. The shipping, of course, was great during this holiday season, as well as throughout this year. I haven't tried the instant videos yet. However, as for the Kindle books, apparently, in order to be able to borrow them, you need to have a Kindle device. Re: Amazon Prime is it worth it and are the videos accessible
I find the app on the iPhone to watch movies to be accessible. I do think the app could be more accessible but I can find my way around with no real problems and watch a movie. We have an apple TV device and we use air play to watch the movies on our TV. I can’t see a darn thing but the family likes it on the TV instead of the tiny screen on the iPhone. :) However, in my personal opinion, I would not pay for prime just for the movies. :) They are a really great perk and we do enjoy the choices but I would not pay for prime based on the prime movies and shows. It’s super great to have, especially when we are bored or don’t want to fork out any money to rent a movie. :) Plus, to my knowledge there is no descriptive video service on the movies or shows and therefore, I am lost half the time unless I have sighted assistance. We love Prime and therefore, I personally believe it is worth it. I love to say, Oh, I need this or that but can’t take a trip to the store. So, I get on Amazon, order, then the package arrives quickly. Love it! Thanks Christina. I would be making the jump to prime for the shipping speed, and looked at the videos as a bonus as I canceled my Netflix due to zero described video content. Figured Amazon didn't have any described video as none of the streaming services offer DV, guess they figure blind people don't watch movies. Re: Amazon Prime is it worth it and are the videos accessible
Hi there. I have had Amazon prime now for around two years, and it has been worth every penny for the shipping alone. However, I have also recently begun watching many Amazon videos, which I also enjoy as a benefit of the prime membership. As to the accessibility of the videos, I can't really say. I have been watching them via the Kindle Fire HDX, where I can tell you they are definitely very accessible, but can't speak to Ios, windows or the mac. Perhaps I will give it a try on my iPhone or macbook pro today and get back to you. I have also taken advantage of the kindle lending library, but to the best of my knowledge, you can only borrow kindle books from a kindle device. -- Jenny Wood Phone: (972) 989-3894 Email: kc5...@gmail.com Facebook/Twitter/Skype: kc5gni On Dec 27, 2013, at 1:47 PM, Brian Fischler blindga...@gmail.com wrote: Hey all, I don't buy a lot but do buy almost everything through Amazon, and recently paid for two day shipping, yeah I guess I am impatient when I want something. Re: Amazon Prime is it worth it and are the videos accessible
Our family has subscribed to Amazon prime off/on for a few years now. I’m not sure if we’ll resubscribe this year. One point I’ve liked about it, is sure 2 free day shipping, but there isn’t the minimum $25 to spend. So, maybe the $80 membership fee comes out in the wash. I find the instant video app fairly accessible, but lol, I can’t figure out how to play a video. We mostly added videos to our watchList then watched them on our TV. That part wasn’t accessible, it is a visio tv with little applets. Good luck on your decision. I say, if money isn’t a great concern, go for it! There’s a great freedom in that prime 2 day shipping. Also, only $3.99 for next day or sometimes express same day delivery. Traci On Dec 27, 2013, at 12:20 PM, Jenny Wood kc5...@gmail.com wrote: Hi there. Re: Amazon Prime is it worth it and are the videos accessible
Thanks Jenny. Well, I guess that rules out that Kindle lending part, no Kindle here and no plans to get one, pretty happy living on the idevice side. Thanks for the feedback. I have been watching them via the Kindle Fire HDX, where I can tell you they are definitely very accessible, but can't speak to Ios, windows or the mac.
