Larry asked, | Isn't illegal to sell those in the US? Here's my understanding (polite corrections will be welcome): It is already illegal to manufacture them in the US and perhaps even to sell them at wholesale, but apparently legal to sell them at retail. It will be illegal to sell them in the US at any level as of January 1, 2000. It will be illegal to manufacture or sell them in Japan as of October 1, 1999. Melting Pot has also been advertising them, and their web page mentions having a few left. This information is on page B 15, second column, second point in step 5. The combined JE500/JE510 manual for the North American JE510 (Colin tells me he has the same model, not the European JE510) and the JE500 manual both say "more than a month" as Colin quoted. MD: Seeking MiniDisc deck
Hello all, I'm new to the mailing list, but I am an avid fan of the MD format. They seem to be a far more useful medium than cassettes. My eventual goal is to entirely replace my cassettes with CDs at home and MDs for the road. I currently own a Sony bookshelf stereo system, model MHC-P100X and it is EXCELLENT for my needs. When I bought it in 1994 while stationed in Japan, I had the chance to buy its companion MiniDisc deck (model MDS-101). Money was tight so I passed on the deck at the time of purchase. HUGE MISTAKE. That particular deck has a Sony AU-BUS (audio bus) connection which permits CD synchronized recordings, as well as interoperability with the handy timer functions on my stereo. If anyone has any guidance on locating this model or a successor model (MDS-102? MDS-301?) with the audio bus connection, I would GREATLY appreciate it. Newer MiniDisc decks do not seem to have this connection . . . Respectfully, Francisco J. MD: Announcment of new products from SP
Hello everyone: Just a quick note to let you know about a new product at The Sound Professionals. We now have a new mounting option for our Standard Binaural microphonesthe Headphone Mounted Binaural microphones. Here's a picture. This is a product that we have made on a custom basis several times in the past for folks that wanted them, and now offer them as a regular product. These "headphones" are actually a set of our binaural microphones, completely contained within the headphone housing- no part of the microphones shows at all. (Note: These are not re-wired headphones used as microphones. We install small microphone elements into the headphone housing and remove the original headphone "speakers", so they no longer work as headphones). More information on this product is available here: http://www.soundprofessionals.com/binaural.htm They are currently on sale as an introductory special. We also now carry a wide variety of professionals audio equipment and software. In particular, we have recently added hundreds of new software titles, at greatly discounted prices. More info on these here: http://www.soundprofessionals.com/softwara.html That's it for now. My sincere thanks for your time, attention and continued support. MD: Hey
Hey, yes, I, the former Minidiscfreak, or J.R., has resurfaced yet again, still on AOL (GOD HELP ME) Just wanted to share an antcedote (did I spell that right?) of MD shopping today. Ok, my sister works late and the past few days she's taken my MD walkman and all my discs to work with her and she's been saying how she loves it, so I finally told her to go buy one then. So she drags me away from what I was doing and we headed toward the mall (which does not have the best selection out of all the stores) shopping. I convinced her to get an R37 and trade my MDBundle5 stuff for it, which, I'd still have the deck since she doesn't know how to work it, so no editing problems, but Sears is all out till Wed. Well, she didn't want to wait. So we went down to Montomgery Wards which is the last place that sells them in the mall and we saw a bundle, not the sorry Bundle5 like I got, but the Bundle4, for only $299. So we asked the guy, first box he brought out was the Bundle5, didn't want that, he took it back and came out and said "I'm out of the Bundle4's but I can sell you the display units for $243" So we took the deal, who wouldn't, close to 600 bucks worth of stuff. The only things we didn't get were the adapter which I had one, so I gave it back, and the Music Sampler cuz they needed them for the Bundle5 display, but like, I really needed them. So I must say, after playing around witht he 510 and the 320, I finally found out why you guys kept complaining about the auto on switch, wow, this thing is messed up, and thats bad is on the loading mechnisim, my discs tend to get stuck. But I like the fact that I can just optically hook up the 510 to the 320 and only have one set of RCA cords hooked up. And the hidden stuff on the 320 using the remote, wow (yes, it's fun having two units respond to one remote, time for ductape) Ok, my question is: if anyone knows of any secrets I can do with the 510 (like hidden menus and the like) please let me know. -J.R. - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Did you try hooking up the RCA outputs to the RF controller box and seeing if you can pick up a signal on an FM radio? When it is running, the display indicates normal operation. I can see the track numbers and time, etc. The problem is that I get no audio output. The discs in the player were recorded in mixed mono/stereo (mostly mono) and play back fine on my JE520 and MZ-EP11. I've checked the obvious like the digital/analog switch in the analog position. This may be a clue: when I look at the TOSLink connector, there is no visible light (even with the switch in digital). I think to get a digital output, you may have to flip the switch to digital AND hit RESET on the controller. However, I'm not that sure about it. Re: MD: External Mic Pre/ADC
Hi: Alex LeVine wrote: Hello all! I just started getting really into my Sharp 702 for live recording. I know many people have mentioned problems with it, but mine has worked flawlessly since I bought it 5 months ago. Same here. My 702 has become my portable of choice and I have made many flawless recordings with itand no UTOC errors (knock wood). For the price, you can't beat it. I use an Audio Technica 822 stereo mic plugged straight into the MD mic input and it really sounds great, plus it is so small I can bring it to any show. Wow...well, I never thought of the AT822 as small, but glad it's working for you. The 822 is a great mic, especially if you want a simple to use single point stereo mic that can also make high quality recordings. WHen you consider it's cost, if offers great value. I am thinking of upgrading the mic pre and ADC to get an even better sound, so that I can then transfer the recordings to BIAS Peak on my Mac (24-bit files), master them and burn CDs, dithering them to 16 bits at the end. To that end, I am considering getting either the Sony SBM-1 or the Zefiro InBox to improve the sound of the MD. I have even considered getting the Apogee AD-1000, which might be the king of micpre/20-bit units. My questions: 1. Does anyone have opinions on using any of these with MD? I have read some of the old messages about this, but I'd like more in depth opinions/reviews if possible. I have used both, but prefer the Zefiro. I like the ruggedness of the anodized aluminum housing (the SONY is plastic) and the cool 9 volt battery holder. It's sound quality is wonderful, and the mic pre's are ultra quiet. 2. Would the little Sharp MD sound even better if I fed it a digital signal from a 24 bit converter? YesI can definitely say that I can hear the difference using the Zefiro. I was a little suprised that I could also hear the subtle improvement when I made recordings with higher end mics like the AT4050's and the AT4047's (large side entry studio mics), compared to the much less expensive AT853's. The subtle differences in sound quality came through clearly. Anyway, I hope this helps! Re: MD: sharp 702 DEFECT error
=== = NB: Over 50% of this message is QUOTED, please = = be more selective when quoting text = === Hi Dan, Sorry to hear about your '702 problem. I haven't heard about this one specifically, so I'm forwarding it to the MD mailing list in the hopes that someone else might be able to help give you an answer. [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: sorry, this seemed like the easiest way to get an answer for my frustrating problem, i am sure it is very common. anyway, as of today, i own a SHARP MDS702 recorder. I used the analog inputs, and plugged the rca cords into the video 2 rec in input, then set the reciever to CD, and tried to record, i had the recording levels and all set up, then i pushed play, and recording began, after about 5 seconds the display of my sharp read : DEFECT!, i looked it up in troubleshooting and it said this means the MD you are recording on is scratched, i then opened up a new never used MD, and again, it said DEFECT! after 5 seconds. what is wrong, and what do i have to do, i tried calling sharp, that got me absolutely no where. It sounds like a dud unit to me (I assume you havent't dropped it like a few guys on md-l do, accidently?) My advice is take it back, demand a refund or a decent MD portie (Sony). You can't go far wrong with their Minimans :-) also another problem i have, when playing pre recorded MD's on my stereo, i tried plugging the analog cord into Phono input, that didn't produce any sound, whats the deal? what do i have to do to play my sharp over my stereo.. You will want to connect from the headphone jack on the Sharp unit to the "LINE IN" jack(s) on your stereo. The phono input is usually a low level input with equalization that will probably produce a distorted sound if connected to your Sharp (and I suppose it is possible to damage your stereo by plugging your MD player into it). Another reason to get a proper MD portie unit, the Sony's have a proper line-out socket unlike the Sharp garbage. Volume and bass boost circuitry doesn't affect the sound- you Sharp fools tell me they sound better despite all the unwanted processing and I'll laugh 'till next week. RE: MD: CDA ripping (a bit OT)
I can highly recommend both for anyone wanting to do a LOT of ripping and MP3ing. This combination rips at up to 18x speed, and never less than about 12x with perfect accuracy. The speed of ripping tends to be determined by the drive, not the software. I use Audiograbber at the moment, but I'm after a program that can rip from 2 or more drives (one after the other). I'm ripping my whole CD collection, then putting the 160kb/s MP3s onto CDRs so that I can take 25 (or so) CDRs to uni and have all of my music there. Music can then be dumped onto MD when I need to take it with me. Thing is I've got 3 cdrom drives and I'd like to stick 3 CDs in, CDDB (for the track info), then rip/mp3 them one by one until it's done. Does CDCopy allow this, or does anyone know of another program that does? (nb. it doesn't *have* to have CDDB lookup, as long as it can look up names from the cdplayer.ini file) ta Simon - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Sony RM-D11P remote titling keyboard How much a'they a'charging? £69.95Not the greatest example of value for money I know, especially for an item which really should have come as standard with all decks - but I'm still very happy with it.
