[MBZ] 9 mm Motorcycle

2018-05-26 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes

How are armies going to keep these motorcycles operational during cold weather
since battery power declines with low temperatures?
Gerry
~
Kalashnikov Is Making an Electric Motorcycle For Russian Military and Police

The Russian defense giant Kalashnikov, best known for manufacturing the AK-47
assault rifle and other military and civilian weaponry, recently unveiled an
electric motorcycle for Russian military and police forces. Revealed at the
Army 2017 International Military-Technical Forum in the Moscow area, the new
motorcycle is available in a dirt bike model for the military and a
supermoto-style bike for urban police forces.

Kalashnikov Group announced that 50 of the police motorcycles will be used by
law enforcement during the 2018 World Cup in Russia, as reported by
Lanesplitter. The police model has a range of 150 kilometers, or about 93
miles, according to Kalashnikov, and the bikes are being built by Russian
motorcycle manufacturer IZH, a subsidiary of Kalashnikov.

The police version of Kalashnikov's new electric motorcycle.
Kalashnikov

Other than that, not much is known about the technical specifications of the
new bikes. You can watch a video from Kalashnikov of a cool rider with no
helmet and a bandana hopping on the military version of the electric bike and
cruising over some mild off-road terrain.

Related Story

The United States is also working to build an electric motorcycle for troops
under a DARPA acquisitions program. Electric motorcycles have the advantage of
stealth and versatility, allowing small groups of troops to access remote areas
quickly and without the racket of internal combustion giving away their
position.

Logos Technologies is one of the companies awarded a contract from DARPA to
build and research an electric motorcycle for the military. The company's
SilentHawk, based on the design of the Alta Redshift MX electric dirt bike,
weighs in at 350 pounds and has a range of 170 miles, according to Logos. The
next prototype of the SilentHawk should also include a detachable multi-fuel
generator to allow troops to charge the bikes on longer missions using a
variety of fuels, including gasoline, JP-5, JP-8, Jet-A1, propane and AVGAS.

Electric dirt bikes clearly have a number of advantages downrange, including
agility, off-road capability, nearly-silent motors, fuel efficiency and light
weight. The Russian and United States militaries have taken an interest in the
versatile vehicles, and we will see if electric motorcycles can bring
two-wheelers back to prominence on the battlefield.

+1, about 10 times over. Semi-autos are finicky. A pump 22 is the 240D
of rifles. It will take bb caps, cb caps, S, L, LR, stdV, or HV,
subsonic or hypersonic. You can shoot well just as fast.

The henry is a solid choice. Otherwise, look for Win 61, 1906, or
similar. Win 61 is great, but not cheep. (no birdie)

OTOH, if I were to buy a semi, the 10 22 SS takedown would be the only
one on the list.

IMO Only accurate rifles are interesting...and that is especially true of .22
rimfire rifles. I expect adequate accuracy to enable reliable head shots on
squirrels out at 25-50 yds. I have a Rem. 541T that can certainly do that.
Plinking is a lot more fun when you can hit what you're aiming at.

They had a bunch of the Henry’s, too, but he said he wouldn’t recommend one

Point well taken.

As I start to do my due diligence on this model, it sounds like most reviewers

accuracy. With that in mind I suspect I’ll head back down to that one and be

Re: [MBZ] OT - .22 Rifles

2018-05-26 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Stopped by the local gun shop, spent some time with the owner’s husband (SHE
owns the store) and he had a number of 10/22 Rugers. The one I liked the most
was the target with the bull barrel. Heavy, but an absolutely beautiful
firearm:

Hmm. I don’t see it on Ruger’s web sight, I was really impressed. Now to
decide whether I want to plink or shoot targets….

They had a bunch of the Henry’s, too, but he said he wouldn’t recommend one
unless I was looking for a “legacy” sort of rifle. I’m not buying it to hand
it down to my kids when I kick it….

Re: [MBZ] Trucks, on-topic

2018-05-26 Thread Jim Cathey via Mercedes
I picked up the truck today. Drives surprisingly well, but the overall
experience is
crude, Unimog-ish. At idle it's very noisy and vibratory. At freeway
speeds it
smooths right out. Boost gauge goes up to about 14 PSI before the overboost
cutout drops it back to 10. Has very little low-end torque, feels like the
190D
rather than the 200D, which has a very truck-like feel. You need to keep
the
RPM up on this to keep power on. It'll be fine, regardless.

The original conversion was a non-turbo engine. The next owner switched
it out for a turbo motor. The next owner sold off the spare motor, and then
eventually sold me the truck.

Pix and stuff to follow, when time allows.

Re: [MBZ] Sdl strange electrical issue

2018-05-26 Thread Jim Cathey via Mercedes
Dielectric grease _is_ an insulator, but it's mechanically so weak that
it's no impediment
to the electrical contacts. It's a barrier only to oxygen, moisture, and
corrosion. The point
of this grease _is_ that it's an insulator, and so doesn't affect the
normal operation of
switches and contacts, etc. If it was conductive, it'd be a real problem
in some situations.

Re: [MBZ] Sdl strange electrical issue

2018-05-26 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Dielectric grease seals out moisture and preserves the connection. thus
retards corrosion.

It is not an insulator, although, many think that it is.

Vaseline also works on battery terminals, but it doesn't have the staying
power of dielectric grease.

In theory, I should be able to bid on the MI clear titles and not on the MI
clear title dealer only cars. But it doesn't work that way in practice, even
though I overheard one of the counter gals telling another customer that he
could bid on any car that was CT.

But what about a MI clear title car that I can bid on one day and not bid on
another day, which is the case with the SL500 I was talking about?

You really need to review the license requirement page.  It will list

I thought if it came on during engine operation there was a glow plug that was
out? I know if it doesn’t light during starting there’s a glow plug out.

I recall my 350SDL would get a GP light at random during running that would
stay on for like 30-45 seconds then go out.

The shop that will be doing the frame swap is willing to 'purchase' the
bed-less leftovers from me, primarily V10/tranny/transfer/rear-diff, for
roughly a $750 reduction in the charges. Basically now quoted at $2,750
for the swap, plus whatever front-diff gearing changes might be needed.
And, no hassle! Basically I'm getting half my money back out of the donor
truck.
