This link usually links you to Sprint Chat. They have been very helpful
to me so far. I have 2 Centros on order and they said to contact them on
the chat board for help setting up phone as modem when my phones arrive.

Go to this page and there is USUALLY a link near the top left that says
Login to chat. If it's not there look again in a while, sometimes it's
there, sometimes it's not. Who knows?

Careful there, with names like that you may be showing your ageLOL

That could get very pricey in a big hurry. I am also not just running a
blend. I have a homemade coolant heated fuel filter setup as well as 2
homemade inline electric fuel heaters. The blend is just a little
insurance policy so that i don't accidentally grenade a pump with oil that
is too thick.
The filter assy. brings the fuel to 140F, the first electric heater is
in the loop so it helps heat the entire tank of fuel along with the
filter. The second is just before the injector pump and heats to a max
of 180F at idle. I still need more heat to run straight WVO well so i
am going to insulate and heat the fuel tank and lines as well.
I am also looking at using 4-6 inches of NiChrome wire to make
individual injector line heaters so as to allow cold starts on WVO.
Another benefit is that, contrary to popular belief, WVO actually needs
to be around 300F at the injector in order to get good atomization of
the fuel and a clean burn. The injector pumps like the fuel to be
around 160-180 or so to work correctly. So, logically, the only thing
to do is to heat the injector lines.

Re: [MBZ] Veggie Oil And Bio Fuel users - Words of Caution

2008-06-11 Thread slozukimc
Larry,
  You're welcome.
As far as a conversion goes I can add a few tidbits of experience.

1. If you don't have a LOT of spare time to mess with collecting and
filtering the oil as well as the car and WVO system(filters. etc.) then
don't even bother.

2. If you don't have a DRY garage/shed of some sort large enough for a few
barrels and such, plus room to move around that you are willing to
dedicate to fuel production only again, don't bother.

3. Considering the diminishing supplies of used veggie oil due to
commercial renderers(sp?) WVO is much harder to come by than you would
think.

4. If you make short trips you need to look into a single tank type system
that can allow you to start up on VO. What sort of driving do you do?

On the above note, I have been tinkering with the 220D and it will start
and run BETTER on STRAIGHT WVO than it does on ULSD in the 90+degree temps
we have been seeing lately. Even after setting all night and with no
modifications at all. The MBZ diesels seem to be very forgiving and as we
know already, very robust so they seem to be the best candidates for
conversions.

There's a ton of info out there and i am not sure of good, current sites
to refer you to but that is a little bit of what i have learned messing
with the stuff.

Mike

Re: [MBZ] Veggie Oil And Bio Fuel users - Words of Caution

2008-06-10 Thread slozukimc
It's called polymerization...Sorta turns the oil into plastic. It's
real and it destroys veggie powered engines.

>From what I understand BioDiesel doesn't do the same thing but I could be
mistaken.

I think I need to look into the analysis a bit more myself as I'd like the
old GM 6.2 in my truck to last a while..

My blend of WVO and diesel costs me $1.21 or so per gallon x 20 MPG from a
1 ton crewcab works well for me. At that cost I could easily replace the
engine and still make out ahead but I'd rather not.

[MBZ] Anyone need 73 220D parts?

2008-05-21 Thread slozukimc
I guess we have decided to part out the 73 220D we bought. I am going to
keep the engine, trans and associated accessories to use in one of my
offroad buggies. Everything else is up for grabs. Chrome is all nice
except for one piece of windshield trim. Glass is all good except the
windshield which has 2 stone chips, one is spidercracking so it's junk.
Interior is Palomino and is in SWEET condition. The dashpad is black and
has NO cracks.

Has all 4 matching green center hubcaps, all original books and such as
well as the tools, jack and spare tire.

I can ship all but the larger parts such as seats.

I am open to reasonable offers for parts..

If there is no interest here I will E-bay all of the parts in hopes of
getting somewhere close to the money we have invested out of it.

If someone wants a sweet parts car for a 115 220D this is a good one for
the job...I'd take $1200 cash for it whole and I'll drive it to you
for fuel money and a bus ticket back home within 1000 miles or so.

Thanks, Mike

 Subject: [MBZ] 73 115 220D+76 300D=Driver?

 Hello All,
Been a while but I have a question. Just can't seem to stay away
 from
the Diesel MBZ no matter how I try...

Bought a 73 220D with a manual tranny, mint interior, perfect running
engine with 127K miles, almost perfect chrome, and pretty green
 paint, all
of the dash and interior lights work and the clock keeps perfect
 time.
The only thing that doesn't work as if it was new is the heater
 fan. It
is a bare bones version with no power steering or any power options
 at all
for that matter. It's the perfect car, sort of.

Well, now that we have been driving it for a bit I am finding out
 just how
rusty it really is. I knew there was some rust in the floors and a
 bunch
of bondo in the quarter panels but now as the body flexes I am
 seeing that
the drivers floor all the way up into the firewall is SHOT bad. Bad
enough that the body is flexing at the front door post enough to
 rub off
the paint with the chrome windshield trim.

I am going tomorrow to look at a 76 300D parts car. If the details
 I am
given are correct it is a very solid body with a ratty interior and
 a shot
engine. Being a 300D I assume it is an automatic.

We really like the 220D and it's a blast to drive with the manual
 tranny.
30MPG isn't hard to swallow either.

So, how much trouble am I getting myself into thinking that I can
 turn the
 76 300D into a replica of a 73 220D by combining the two cars?

 Thanks for any input,
 Mike

Re: [MBZ] 73 115 220D+76 300D=Driver?

2008-05-20 Thread slozukimc
HAHAHAHAHA. I know what you are saying there. Only problem is money. I
have plenty of time to work on the car but not a ton of money to work
with. Especially enough to buy a MBZ ready to go. I am thinking I could
take the time and build one very nice car from the two if the parts will
interchange.

The only nice thing about the 300D is the body is supposed to be rust
free. Paint is badly faded, interior is shot. Engine is taken apart for
some reasonThat's the description I have so far.

I need to go look at it myself so I can be sure it is what I have been told.

Thanks, Mike

Thanks Tom. I'm not sure just yet if I want to tackle this
project..The fewer differences in the chassis itself the better
for sure. I am not fond of the bumpers on the 300D, not as classy as the
73 style. I'll have to check out the differences and maybe I can make the
220 bumpers fit the 300 chassis.

So if I strip everything from the 300 do you think I can replace them with
the seats, belts and all from the 220? I want to use the whole 220
interior if I can.

So the chassis itself is the same then? I want to use only the body of
the 76 with every other part coming from the 73 220D.

OR, considering how nice all of the parts are on the 220D maybe I should
just part it out and get our money back. We have about $1500 or so in it
right now.

Thanks, Mike

[MBZ] 73 115 220D+76 300D=Driver?

2008-05-19 Thread slozukimc
Hello All,
Been a while but I have a question. Just can't seem to stay away from
the Diesel MBZ no matter how I try...

Bought a 73 220D with a manual tranny, mint interior, perfect running
engine with 127K miles, almost perfect chrome, and pretty green paint, all
of the dash and interior lights work and the clock keeps perfect time.
The only thing that doesn't work as if it was new is the heater fan. It
is a bare bones version with no power steering or any power options at all
for that matter. It's the perfect car, sort of.

Well, now that we have been driving it for a bit I am finding out just how
rusty it really is. I knew there was some rust in the floors and a bunch
of bondo in the quarter panels but now as the body flexes I am seeing that
the drivers floor all the way up into the firewall is SHOT bad. Bad
enough that the body is flexing at the front door post enough to rub off
the paint with the chrome windshield trim.

I am going tomorrow to look at a 76 300D parts car. If the details I am
given are correct it is a very solid body with a ratty interior and a shot
engine. Being a 300D I assume it is an automatic.

We really like the 220D and it's a blast to drive with the manual tranny.
30MPG isn't hard to swallow either.

So, how much trouble am I getting myself into thinking that I can turn the
76 300D into a replica of a 73 220D by combining the two cars?

Thanks for any input,
Mike

Re: [MBZ] Am I seeing TVs in front seats of cars?

2007-11-01 Thread slozukimc
Brian,
I have seen in-dash DVD players with little mechanical LCD screens that
pop right out of them..Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me. With
the general lack of responsibility amongst our population these days, so
called drivers surely don't need another thing to do while driving. How
can you manage a cellphone, sandwich, coffee and a movie all while
shifting through the gears?

Both actually. I could use a good transmission for the TD and i would
love to change it over to the greasecar kit as i have about 300 gallons of
WVO laying around just waiting to be put to good use. I have my 83 SD
with a good running engine in it.(less miles than yours) i could throw
in on the deal if that guy is interested in a good engine. Actually the
SD is a much prettier looking car with a bad transmission.
I bet he'd offer the same $1000 for the SD if all he needs is a good
engine.It really does look pretty...lol

My 95 with the 2.3 has 230K on it and it runs absolutely perfect. No
smoke, rattles or major leaks and it was always owned by a friend of mine
who has NO clue about anything mechanical...It had the infamous
sticky throttle body shaft at one time(all Frods do if you leave them sit
long around here) and he let it sit on the rev limiter while he went in
the house to get someone to help.DUH!

I think you may have found the rare exception to the rule. The 4 banger
manual trans Rangers and Bronco II's seem pretty good on gas. I have a 95
here that averages around 25 or so and that's 4x4.

Kevin,
That sounds like a sweet bus. The 4x4 is very rare in the busses.
The 6.5 has plenty of torque without a turbo. I have friend who uses a
6.2 Suburban to pull a 3 Samurai trailer carrying over 7000# and it does
OK and gets great mileage. Another friend has a 6.2 one ton crew cab
that pulls an equipment trailer and bulldozer quite well.

 Bill,
It needs a tranny, exhaust and bumpers. Other than that it drives
 nice,
brakes are good, runs great, hydro susp. works. I only drove it for
 a
 week
and the tranny went on me. Has some cancer but not too bad. Fuel
 tank
needs cleaned out or better yet replaced as it is clogging the fuel
 filter.
That's about what i know about it.

I am in Montour Falls, NY.

If it will run and drive you can put insurance on it and buy a paper tag
for 10 bucks.

Levi,
I tow cars all of the time..It is illegal to tow with a strap unless
the car has tags.

You need to use a towbar to be legal...Simply take a piece of
heavy pipe and run a chain through the middle and attach it to both cars
as tight as you can get itThe cops really look for if you are
being safe and smooth while towing rather than what you are towing with
around here.

If you need, I have a trailer if you have a truckMy truck will be
up and running again soon.

[MBZ] Who wants a 300TD cheap?

2007-08-01 Thread slozukimc
Hey All,
I have decided to sell my 83 300TD. I never have time to mess with it
to even see what is the matter with the transmission. The engine runs
great, starts right up no problem.

The fuel tank is rusty and is plugging the primary fuel filter often so
that needs taken care of and the tranny does nothing. I think it is
either the front pump or the ears on the converter gone bad. I fould a
new input seal for the tranny in the car so I think maybe someone didn't
get the TC lined up right when they put it back in.

The hydro rear suspension works fine and the car drives well. Oh, it
needs an exhaust too, sounds pretty cool a bit loud though...LOL

Mileage is right around 300K, I'll go look to be exact in a while.

I'll take the first $1500 for it.

Thanks, Mike

Muriatic acid is used to ETCH concrete..Not good at all for the
floor as if it doesn't actually remove some of the concrete it will soften
the top surface enough that a floor jack will turn it to powder.

Try the kitty litter and wood block trickIt works. One of my friends
father was very anal about the floor in his shop but refused to have it
painted(slippery with oil on it painted) so he used to make AJ grind the

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet

Take a smal pile of speedy dry and a piece of 2x4 about 6 inches long or
so and use the wide flat side to grind the speedy dry into the stain like
you were rubbing out paint except alot harder, keep at it and it will
eventually all come out. You should end up with a very fine powder like
flour if you are doing it right.

They are not fast by any means but they will pull a huge load. The TH400

Just thought I would drop a note to let you all hear about my fun with
Iveco truck brakelines.
I recently bought an Iveco commercial diesel truck and am in the process
of learning everything there is to know about how to fix the air over
hydraulic brake system in a Fiat(fix it again Tony) built truck!
First the air tanks were rusted through beyond repair so they needed to
be replaced. Well, guess what, Iveco no longer makes these tanks. They
are 8" in diameter and 20" long so I figured I would just buy 8" well
casing and caps and build some new tanks...Yeah, right. The casing
would be $130 and $30 each for 6 caps plus labor to get them all welded
up made that way too much money for the budget right now so I ended up
making up some metric thread to pipe thread adapters and "T"-off to some
20# propane tanks. That works pretty well for now.
The brakelines are 6mm with a bubble flare, near impossible to buy and
1/4 inch is 6.3mm so it won't quite fit in the flaring tool or the 6mm
line nuts. So I have come up with using the flaring bar from a standard
double flaring tool with the rest of the metric bubble flaring tool to
make the flares on the 1/4 inch line and drilling out the 6mm nuts to
1/4". It's working so far but it's certainly been very time consuming
and tedious work.

Updates as they go.

Mike

H...I'll have to go to the local Volvo/Saab graveyard and have a
look see.I have seen a wheel like that and if it wasn't on a
Sonnet I am stumped.

Maybe an older Volvo..they has 15's but I don't recall how many lugs.

Re: [MBZ] OT JB Weld repair experiences

2007-07-22 Thread slozukimc
I used quick steel to fix a motorcylcle engine case and it never leaked a
drop.

Met a gent in Alabama with a D9 Cat..Kept blowing head gaskets for
some reason or another, I was a teenager and had no clue about a diesel
then. He cleaned the hell out of it and applied a layer of JB where the
gasket belonged, tightened the bolts and ran it that way for several
months when he finnally blew a track and decided to junk it. He took all
of the head bolts out and started the engine and it ran that way!! The
head actually stayed on the engine even when he revved it up and let it
set there and run full throttle for over an hour before it ran out of
fuel.

The moral of the story; make sure it is clean, clean, clean before
applying JB and it will work well.
