Oh man, all sorts of exercises with the medicine ball. Lie on your back, one
foot on the ball, leg bent, other leg outstretched. Lift your bum and
outstretched leg using the leg balanced on the ball. Lower and repeat for 45
seconds. Then do push-ups but one hand is on the ball. Then "dead bug" lying on
your back hold the ball over your head legs bent so your thighs point up, knees
bent 90 degrees, lower one thigh keeping the knee bent, bring that one back up
and lower the other one. For extra "fun" push the ball away from your torso.
Standing hold the ball overhead and do a forward lunge...
Standing, ball on the floor in front of you roll the ball from foot to foot
controlling it with one hand.
There are 10 exercises but not all use the ball.

I bought a really nice Schwinn spin bike ($1000 new) about a year ago for $100.
It was as good if not better than the “official” bikes at the Y. Unfortunately,
I never really got set up to use it as there just wasn’t a good space for it in
the house. I tried using it in the guest room but it was in the way and I had a
hard time finding a way to keep the carpet under it from getting soggy. When I
saw what exercise equipment was going for recently, I put it on FB marketplace
for $150 and it was gone within minutes.

2020-12-17 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Cardio, baby!

I loved to spin (stationary bike). There’s no workout like a 45 minute spin
class, and not surprisingly, not a lot of fit people can do one out of the
gate. We would often have people who were training for a marathon come in
during the colder months because they thought it would be “easy”. Even if
you’re in shape it take a good 3-5 classes to get going, and after the first
couple of classes you’re hurting in places you never imagined.

Sadly, I don’t spin any more, mainly because our YMCA has gotten so crowded
that it went from being able to walk up an hour before a class and get a bike
to having to register a day in advance for classes. Screw that.

So now I walk every day. Briskly. I do miss my spin classes, though. Best ever
45 minute workout I ever had.

My gym is a pretty standard gym I guess. Treadmills, stationary bikes,
rowing machines, ellipticals in front. Weight machines of various types
in the middle. Free weights, benches, squat racks, powerlifting in the
back. Dressing rooms with lockers, showers. Really nice sauna. Local
owner, not part of any chain. One year single membership is $350. Guess
I didn't realize what a deal that is. Any personal training is extra
though, and independent of the gym.

They were shut down from about March - June but have been open since
then. I started going in summer of 2019 and although I have generally
hated exercise my whole life, I have found that I've been able to stick
with weights. I do maybe 10 min of jogging on the treadmill to get my
blood pumping and the rest is weights. I finish with 20 minutes in the
sauna. I try to go every other day and rarely miss.

Re: [MBZ] 5g speeds

2020-12-15 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
I was threatened with BP meds 15 years ago - did some research and used
this instead:
https://www.sfherb.com/Hibiscus-Flowers-Cut--1-Lb_p_13.html
I drank 4-5 cups a day for a year, and never heard another mention of meds.
I'm down to two cups a day now and doing fine - pass my flight physical
without issues.
My wife likes it, I tolerate it.

2020-12-15 Thread Peter Frederick via Mercedes
I'm with you on the BP meds Curt. I was on a big dose of carvedilol after my
heart failure, and it nearly cost me my job. About all I could do was wander
in to work and stagger through the day, sort of like having an anchor in each
shoe. Same thing my Dad felt when he had heart trouble in the 70's.

Got that backed off and I have much more energy, but I don't feel normal unless
I skip the meds a couple days in a row. Funny thing is that the heart failure
was viral and temporary. My BP has always been in the 140-150 over 90 range,
and I have zero effects from it other than a slightly thickened left ventricle
wall, and that was normal while I had the heart failure.

I need to get more excercise and get some weight off anyway, maybe I can ditch
the carvedilol. Only still on it because my cardiologist said he'd seen some
cases where discontinuing it caused the ventricular failure to re-appear,
otherwise I'd have quit it then.

Ain't life grand?

I think it depends on which news source you go by.

When I was out of town last week I hit the treadmill every night at the hotel.
I did a mile jog each night trying to work up to 2 miles etc. we have a really
nice treadmill at the house but I can’t seem to get the wife to move all the
cloths she has piled up on it and she tells me not to touch it. We also have a
gym membership we have been paying for because last year she decided she wanted
to start working out. I don’t think she has been to the gym in a year and keeps
insisting next week she will go. In the mean time we still get dinged every
month. She says I can go over there rather than using our treadmill at home. I
don’t want to spend 30 minutes driving there and 30 minutes back to do a 15-20
workout on the treadmill.

Its more like a 96% recovery rate overall, much worse if you're older or have
underlying conditions.
Speaking of which, I'd like to take a moment for a brag here. I've been hitting
the gym 3 days a week since it reopened in July and my blood pressure is so
normal I'm only taking medication 4 days a week and in about 6 months I expect
to drop it entirely. This is great news because any blood pressure medication
I've ever taken that actually worked also affected my energy levels. The stuff

Re: [MBZ] 5g speeds

2020-12-15 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Nope. The cellular guys were already talking about this when I was getting out
of the generator business, and they thought it was all a lot of pixie dust.

The mm wave will support some serious speeds, but it has very limited range.
This is what they deploy in metropolitan areas. The lower frequency (600 MHz?)
stuff will go into outlying areas where line of sight and latency is expected.

It matters not to me, as there’s nothing I do with a phone that would ever
require those kinds of speeds that I could imagine.

You will only see 5G speeds when you are within 500 ft of a repeater, outside,

So in other words, 4LTE is what you will have forever in you car, inside any

Not going to happen, 5G is a classic case of 1) a solution is search of a
