A concatenation of events which precluded making a more salubrious housing selection. Mostly having no knowledge of market/geography/socio-economic factors related to desirable neighborhoods within her price range. There was also a short time range in which she had to nail down purchase due to tax laws related to real estate investment exchanges. This was the best option given the steaming pile of dung the Anchorage market had at the time. Not to say the selection is any better now. Boom bust cycles around here have lots of inventory sitting in foreclosures, so, like with our cars, the things languish and decay before the banks get done with paperwork so the real estate can be put back on the market in a boom swing. Strangely, the fellow who owns The Alaska Mint (he just makes gold and silver coins and jewelry) has a spectacular home on a fly in lake a few blocks away, almost under the flight path of the cargo jets. Reminds me of a Russian oligarch Dacha or large chapel in the woods. clay I have no pronouns please do not refer to me. > On Apr 22, 2020, at 1:07 PM, Randy Bennell via Mercedes > wrote: > > On 22/04/2020 3:56 PM, Clay via Mercedes wrote: >> The cargo stuff is jumping. I love the smell of marine diesel. Not sure I would have enjoyed coal/steam cruising. The NG powering of ships is a thing. One of the companies running cargo to AK is retrofitting their boats with giant LNG tanks. It must free up space in the hold for more of the heavy freight, as the tanks are pretty high on the stern. Really easy to target with an RPG were a terrorist so inclined. With these plants closed, the farmers have no place to deliver adult hogs, no place to keep them (need the space for new crop), and can't afford to feed them. So these hogs are being destroyed. Aside from lost productivity (despite all the costs) this creates a hole in the meat pipeline. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

There is still all the cargo airlines. UPS/Amazon/FedEx, as well as international carriers with lots of space to move products instead of people. Article in todays local news was about the steady increase in cargo flights and massive reduction in people planes. There is constant (50-90 plane) cargo volume (all the cheep chinee contaminated test kits and PPE) vs around six passenger flights landing in the past 24 hours. Four Alaska air flights instead of the normal few dozens. Delta had a single flight, as did United. Tennessee and other cargo hubs must be seeing lots of volume and getting inexpensive JetA that is not going into tourist flights. clay I have no pronouns please do not refer to me. > On Apr 21, 2020, at 2:55 AM, Dan Penoff via Mercedes > wrote: > > True, and think of the huge volumes of jet fuel that aren’t being consumed, > either. One advantage of bunker C is that at normal seagoing temperatures it's very, very viscous. That means it doesn't slop around in tanks. Also means it has to be heated to move it at any normal flow rate, it's really what's left after all the lighter stuff is distilled out, column bottoms is the other name. You are correct. I was thinking about it relative to the refining aspect. Number 6 is Bunker C, and it has a BTU content of around 150,000 BTU/gallon, where Number 2 diesel is around 140,000 BTU/gallon. However, as previously noted, bunker fuel needs to be heated to be atomized whereas number 2 does not. -D > On Apr 21, 2020, at 5:45 PM, fmiser via Mercedes > wrote: > >> Dan wrote: > >> Bunker fuel is about the bottom of the refining chain, as it’s >> about as close as you can get to crude. Re: [MBZ] Why is gas not running about .25 per gallon?
I seem to remember that the cruise lines are/were moving away from bunker fuel. I remember it being extra poisonous or something in case of a spill. Back in the late '90s Dad and I did a job for the railroad and got to watch them start a loco that had been sitting out in the cold. They had several HUGE propane burners attached to 100# tanks that sat in pipes that went through the fuel tank to melt the bunker fuel within so it could be started. IIRC it took several hours to get it warm enough to start. I remember them telling us why they started it there instead of hauling it to the shop but I don't remember the reason. -Curt On Tuesday, April 21, 2020, 9:47:57 AM EDT, Dan Penoff via Mercedes wrote: Bunker fuel is about the bottom of the refining chain, as it’s about as close as you can get to crude. Bunker fuel is about the bottom of the refining chain, as it’s about as close as you can get to crude. Re: [MBZ] Why is gas not running about .25 per gallon?
There is no hard relationship between the daily price of oil, the futures price of oil, and the daily price of gasoline. Around Michigan and Ohio, the daily price of 87E10 has been around 25-35 cents in recent weeks, or around $0.85-1.00 with tax. I heard of 15 cent gas (wholesale pre-tax) in the Dakotas. Meanwhile, the May futures price of unleaded gasoline was around 70 cents before yesterday's crash, 58 cents now. https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/RB=F?p=RB=F&.tsrc=fin-srch Cash price at the pump averages around 1.50-1.60 in Michigan, but on 7 mile in Detroit I saw Gasbuddy prices as low as $0.849. That's ended now, the cheapest non-club price in Michigan now is 0.949 at a BP in Fremont. (the Costco in Madison Heights is .849, and you can use a credit card, the .849 in Detroit two weeks ago was cash only) Here in Charlotte it's 1.499, which sounds highly profitable until you realize how much volume has dropped. They make a lot on every sale but they're selling a lot less. 10 miles down the road in Bellevue it's 1.209. The markup over wholesale is what it was before the crash. And there are a few places around Lansing that are under 1.25. Meanwhile, in Florida, 1.359 is as good as it gets. Oregon, 1.799. Aside from a 1.599 price war in Farmersville, 1.899 is the cheapest in California. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Pacific coast states tax the tar out of fuel. Last I looked, maybe Jim can fact check, the tax on fuel in WA was close to $0.60 or more. Re: [MBZ] Why is gas not running about .25 per gallon?
Yeah, the lag in pulling it from the ground to pouring it into your tank is not as fast as we all wish it were. As was pointed out in the articles, this is for delivery of oil in MAY. Ten days from now. The lock in for price, and having to have a place to stash it kicks in 4/21, so everybody wants out. Sort of like being on site not when Kaleb eats the burrito, but a few hours later. The product in the pumps most likely was sent to refinery at $50 bbl, if not more. Been sitting around in massive tanks waiting for somebody to use it, so room for more fuel can be had. No profit in giving fuel away, as the refiner would be underwater. Constipation ensues in the fuel production pipeline. The other painful part is that there will be a massive decline in employment in the industry. Well paying jobs that keep cities going. Oil field work is deemed essential. These jobs go away, and there will be town large and small that are not going to be able to support a wallyworld importing cheep chinee crap, let alone some local yahoo with a tastee freez. With the slow melting away of winter, I would gladly drive all the way to Colombia to make more room for oil. And now there will not be fleets of fresh off the line RVs being delivered up north along the Alcan, which would have consumed at least a tank a day on the trip up. Severe constipation with everybody backed up and unable to flow. Makes TP seem superfluous. clay I have no pronouns please do not refer to me. > On Apr 20, 2020, at 4:26 PM, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes > wrote: > > Yes, and somebody on the refined end is making a killing. Gas prices here seem to have gotten stuck. Seems like the gas stations don't really want to get far under $2. The local stations that have their special "club" price are $1.95, regular price $2.05.Diesel finally fell under $2.50, $2.45 this evening...
