Mighty warriors do battle for the hearts and minds of the believers.

Much study will be done to master the device so that I may fuel it at the time
it is needed. This will allow me to keep from entering the tents of others.

I would be afeared that the solvent would want to eat the bumper as well.
Maybe a rough sanding would open the coating so the solvent would be able to
get at the paint quicker and not eat the bumper, giving enough time to stop the

I was seven years old and playing in my Granny's kitchen with a matchbox 250SL,

bit less so. These guys designed the silver stars I have owned.

He has the world believing that crap. He and melinda are holding onto buckets
of the cash and have stored a bit of it in their mendacious foundation. Bill
is living the high life, and will keep doing so until the day he dies. At
least he was bright enough to not use some banana republic law firm attempt to
hide his cash. He used his family connections to make it look like the stuff
was being used for good, but that is just how he has been able to off shore
vast billions of loot. At least Paul Allen is flashing his cash and building a
real estate empire. If he would use it to invest in a decent band of football

[MBZ] Sold the SL

2016-05-01 Thread clay via Mercedes
Mercedes-Benz: SL-Class 450SL

This was an interesting sale. The winning bidder made a cheater deal with the
owner of the 1974 SL I was selling on CL. He had contacted me in March to take
a look at the above car, but flaked. Last week he shows up at my Indy claiming
to not know me and that he had been keeping an eye on the cars in the parking
lot and wanted to see the above car. Probably full of shite, as he lives and
works 30 miles away and has little reason to drive past my indy. Screwed me
out of a commission. The shop called me to make sure I did not know the guy,
and I did not recall the name, but checked email and found the old mail. Sale
price was too close to bottom line to get any cash in my pocket. I was told he
would be coming by to pay for the car May 2nd. I did a late night re-list of
the car at $1k less than the latest asking price to see if I could snipe the
sale and get some pocket change. Dude showed up the NEXT day and paid for the
1974.

So, the 1977 was put on Fleabay last Sunday because it was getting no interest.
Original posting on CL was as a project/parts car at $1700 because it had not
run in five years and parked out in the elements all that time. The guy who
bought the 74 contacted me in early March, when the '77 was listed as parts.
Indy asked what the '77 would fetch if it ran. I said twice what a parts car
would. I was in the middle of cleaning the moss off and giving it a waxing.
When I left the car ran and drove well enough, so I posted it for $4k on CL in
late March.

The winning bidder just signed up on Fleabay this week and now has the chance
to buy the 1977 SL for more than I was asking. What an IDIOT! He has to make
a $800 deposit or I am going to offer it to the back up bidder who took it past
$4k on his bids.

It did come pretty clean. The winner just stopped by the shop and told them he
is backing out on paying for the car. I have to wait a few days to make
fleabay do anything. Meanwhile, second chance offer went out.

Re: [MBZ] Sold the SL

2016-05-02 Thread clay via Mercedes
Because he is a prick.

He already spent $7k on the really nice 74 450SL and looked at the 77 last
week. I do not know what possessed him to do a snipe bid at the last moments.
It was all good until he screwed up the bids, and the second chance guy is not
going to pay his full bid, but the lowest he made.

Did you rebuild a set for me about six or seven years ago? If you did, they
were KILLER! Best spray pattern, quiet as death, increased MPG and worth every
penny invested. Sadly the car ate its cam supports... But the injectors did
not fail. I think I sold the set out of the OM615 for $120 they were so clean.

AS I am understanding, you have a dual boot capability and for Time Machine to

Wilton, having been hit, will want to steer far and clear of USAA. The at
fault driver insco will be on the hook to make him whole and he will want to
push hard and for as long as it takes to get a viable comparable nationwide to
his car. I blinked when the idiot who sideswiped my parked car did not play
ball with his own insco (liberty) and after four months and a half baked
settlement check almost getting cut, but rust was starting to thrive on the
damaged area, got USAA involved in making the W220 better. Instead of the
replacement of doors and sheet metal that the other party would have been
paying for, I ended up with bondo and a crap spray job at half to fee, and
increase on my rates.

The most current interaction with USAA was the least positive I have had.
Until the past incident their actions were exemplary. I have had service with
them for only half Wilton's and have never had qualms. Maybe the trouble is
the rolling turd W220. USAA paid $3500 to do the repair, while the were
pushing the offending insco to pay over $6k to make me whole.

Re: [MBZ] Value Question

2016-05-10 Thread clay via Mercedes
The 380 is really not sought after. Too many issues with the timing chain,
weaker M116 engine, wonky ACC, The thing would need to be in top shape to snag
a high price. There are a number of buyers with stars in their eyes who can be
helped to part with big cash

Re: [MBZ] fuel cans - spouts

2016-05-10 Thread clay via Mercedes
WE can all moan about some evil overlord death camp program, but the reality is
that the system is already moving toward providing less than acceptable
outcomes for all ages. UK NIH has been plagued by crap service and multiple
studies that showed the infirm with co-morbid issues are more prone to not be
given care that would result in extended life spans. That is going on even now
in the good old US of A. My own mother is finding that what used to be easy to
book appointments are months out, the doctors are fewer to be found, treatments
are not covered or available, and the common response is to purchase over the
counter solutions and hope for the best.

2016-05-10 Thread clay via Mercedes
I jumped ship when my internist left his practice to join a concierge service.
There was far too much overhead and not enough income to pay for the
administrative costs. Medicaide pays nothing, insco drags feet for over 120
days, and gives a fraction as payment. He had to pretty much be factory worker
seeing people for five to ten minutes then rush to the next person. The shop
would have made more renting the rooms out to hookers.

My doc took over his father's practice and was at three docs when I found him,
He fled when there were seven and they could no longer cover costs. That shop
is still there, plugging away while the Titanic sinks. My medic is now able to
give me all the time needed, in a relaxed and thoughtful manner. He can afford
to send his kids to college, where they are racking up debt to become healers,
but at least they will not be enslaved to the debt

Local health provider in less urban counties are stocking up on Non-English
speakers for MD posts. These people have a skewed view of how to deal with
white folk, or anybody needing attention. I think they are more prone to
drinking the Kool Aid that Admin is passing out as to level of service to
provide. Cost saving is the key, not health of the patient. Make a Buck,
screw the infirm. The dance with insco and Admin results in treatment only as
long as there is cash to be siphoned. Oncologist would rather not go through
the dance to get best care the insco will pay, just give the least you can get
away with. That crap is what killed my father. As a geriatric oncology
patient, his sawbones knew he should have immune boosters, but did not do it
until I contact attorney who chatted with a lead Admin at the cancer center.
By then it was too late, as the chemo had destroyed his immune system and he
died a month later. I am not sure five months of booster would have prolonged
lif
e over much, but it would have given him a fighting chance to survive chemo.

Re: [MBZ] RockAuto Closeouts

2016-05-12 Thread clay via Mercedes
I got stuck in the middle of a Hostile Workplace Environment situation at work.

Boss is Ethiopian and is not supportive of alternative life stylings. Another
worker, white boy, goes on about perversions in restrooms and how he should
march into a dames latrine pretending to be gender identified that way. This
all started with discussion of Trump, no idea how this wrong turn got made
Anyway, the quiet gay guy in the room could no longer keep quiet and went off
because he became verklempt. Boss had to follow him down the street when he
stormed out of the office. Neither of the anti gays thought they had done
wrong. I wanted to tell them it was about half a step from justifying
segregated restroom under Jim Crow. Just a matter of time frames

Most of the potty pirates will be seated and not standing, as the plumbing or
identity will dictate seat down. Post op the plumbing will match identity so
you would have no clue. If you end up standing next to somebody piddling and
they really should have observed the gap, that may indicate uneducated trans or
a perv.

I wish, the company is severely litigation protected. Deep pockets and legal
teams in place to rape and pillage anything that comes their way. Standard
employment policy is to terminate on any action that peeves one of the family
of owners or higher officer. Passing gas that offends one of them will do it.

Maybe the solution is to do a full chromosomal identification to verify XY
gender. A GenID is marked upon your forehead. The Pure XX or XY can use
appropriate holes in ground, while the muddled XXY, XYX sorts are given a tree

Next on the auction block is a 85 380SL. It is in the prep stage today.
Original paint, no rust through, but a number of acne like rust spots. Trunk
has terminal clear coat death and is getting new paint. The thirty year old
paint has cleaned up well, but to get really pretty, it will end up with
measles if touch up paint gets used. Do not want to know just how much
noodling the electronics are going to need. A trip to the body shop for a sand
and paint would get it to a full five footer. Not on my dime... wonder how a
buyer would feel

Re: [MBZ] '84 300 CD- Locked Ignition Switch

2016-05-20 Thread clay via Mercedes
It took me a week of fiddling with the lockset to get my 74 R107 to turn. I
slobbered Tri-Flow in the slot, inserted the key, hooked the sander to the head
and rattled the be-jeesus out of it for a few minutes, then turned the key left
and right a few times, spun the steering wheel left and right, removed the key,
sopped up the black snot that came out, and applied the sander some more.
Usually five to ten minutes a day. Last day I was able to get the key turned
and started the car right up. Called the locksmith and he told me to get in
and drive right over, NOW, do not shut of the car. He was able to pull the
lock, rebuild and clean it up, cut a reference key and had her back on the road
within a few days. Matched the key he cut to work all other locks as well.

Not my lights. Selling for a friend and these are immaculate with less than
400 miles on the road. The car does not increase in value with them on, but

Re: [MBZ] Slightly OT: Eat your roadkill

2016-05-23 Thread clay via Mercedes
Parasites are the issue. Eat the meat, not the organs. Depending on how
severe the damage, you can get lots of workable meat. BiL collected a deer
that was hit and flew over the car in front. He stopped his car, pulled the
animal to the roadside and contacted LEO. Officer came by and told him that
legally the animal needed to be put down and collected by department of dead
animals. Then he got back in his cruiser and left, turning a blind eye. BiL
field dress the deer and took it home. Swift action reduced damage to the
flesh so very little waste.

To him the whole car is a mess. Parts are hard to come by new and when they
are available, are over priced. Many parts are the same as used in the R107,
just not worth investing big cash in rusted out examples. Having one on his
rack or lot gives him great embarrassment and devalues his business image

Re: [MBZ] Clear Coat Question

2016-09-18 Thread clay via Mercedes
Not sure about hot spaces, but in the wet PNW, if the dang paint failed in two
years, the car was off to the dealer under warrantee. I had a few neighbors
who had the chrysler POS paint and ended up with new paint on the car. The
newer coating lasted more than a few years.

Though a black or dark car is pretty spiffy, in a warm environment, the lighter
colors are more in vogue. Or at least they were when I lived in warm
environments. A blue was more pastel, reds were .. well, red. Light green,
orange, white, silver, all colors that would not suck up calories, which might
scorch a kid should it touch it. AT that time, not too many cars were AC
equipped, so interiors were light if not fabric.

2016-09-18 Thread clay via Mercedes
I had the oil debate over Polei. I figured that all the extra pennies for full
synth would not be economical in the SDL, and standard diesel oil would be
fine. The 20-50 is like hen’s teeth now. FLAPS guy said the call for
something that thick is waning. Used only in diesels. My response was of the
DUH! sort, as I was purchasing Diesel oil at the time and wanted to know if the
20-40 was going to be good enough

That is a pretty good idea. I installed a set of those for my mother in her
garage. She has a work bench and wanted some light. I forgot that I have tube
lights in my basement that take forever to fire up. The LED would be a much
enjoyed upgrade.

Re: [MBZ] Q for Larry

2016-09-19 Thread clay via Mercedes
I am torn on tossing synth into the SDL. When I used M1 in Gump, the first
three changes did not seem to have much impact. The fourth change (15k miles)
everything was running much smoother and quieter. Lots of the kruft that had
taken up residence in the engine seemed to have been washed away by the M1.
Maybe I see if I get the same impact with this car. But I am only going to be
putting 1k on the clock annually. Would be a huge waste of cash using M1 for
that short a driving period.

Re: [MBZ] Q for Larry

2016-09-21 Thread clay via Mercedes
And this is why I am torn. The SDL will not amass miles enough to gain an
advantage using M1 in the manner that Gump did. I expect to hit under 1k per
annum in the car, and it took butt loads of miles to get goodness in my other
cars. IT has been four years of driving the R107 for it to be running nicely
with M1. Ten thousand miles on that old car. It would be a decade in the SDL
to get enough time running M1 in the OM603 to get it cleaned up.

Classic plates limit my miles on the SDL. I would need to drive to Colorado
and back over a weekend to rack up enough miles, then head down to Disneyland
or LegoLand a few times. Maybe if I drove to Disneyworld and tossed in a visit
with Poos/MacDan to rig up my MacPro 1,1 to run el Crapitan on my mega,
extended road trip of Parade, mechanic visits would I be able to build up the
mileage and oil changes

Re: [MBZ] OT: Golf paint

2016-09-21 Thread clay via Mercedes
I am dicking around with the dang paint on Polei.

Rattle can John Deere Rustoleum has been given the 1500 then 2000 grit. The
doors are fresher paint then on the hood and trunk. I wonder if I need to use
rubbing compound to get an even finish as a base. The spray gave tiger
striping instead of a smooth coat. Today I used Griot’s #1 polishing compound,
but it was not able to give me a consistent base. It did begin to give a bit
of polish and shine. On the El Cheapo Lowes rattle white the results were more
promising. Still tiger stripes, but the shine was beginning to show.

I did the first coat of paint with an 800 grit. Second was 1000, third (white)
was 1500. Greens were 800 initial wet sand, then 1500. Final for both colors
was 2000. Three coats of green, the Good Lord only knows how many of the El
Cheapo rattle whites I sprayed. I think I had a dozen cans of finish el
cheapo. I used three rustoleum white base and primer in a can over the Rust
Fix stuff and the grey primers.

Should I use a rubbing compound to give a consistent base for both colors? I
am not happy with the tiger striping. A more professional spray application
would have had a wider pattern that decreased the opportunity for striping

Re: [MBZ] 240D license

2016-09-22 Thread clay via Mercedes
I just purchased an 86 SDL and wanted it to have vintage plates. Washington
allows the use of period correct plates or you get the collector plates they
issue. Their plates are $65, to use your own vintage plate is $35.

That said, the DMV has jacked up all the fees to register your car.

I purchased the R107 and it was tagged as normal car. Pay the 10% tax, get
some more fees paid and it was on the road like a normal car. I got some
vintage plates and paid $35 at renewal one year and never have to pay or get
inspected again. That was a few years ago.

The w126 turned into a prison rape. I had an affidavit from the seller
(federal prosecutor) as to sales price. When I went in to register that car,
the dame at the counter disregarded the thing, decided the car was valued at
the magnificent price the state deemed it to be, then charged me a full year as
a standard car, with all fees that entailed, purchase of a new set of plates
(which I did not need), and then the fees to use my own vintage plates, along
with tax on the actual price I paid. That was around $200.

Re: [MBZ] A car for poos

2016-09-22 Thread clay via Mercedes
If the text is correct, then this would be an interesting car to own. It would
not be top of the line, but probably has good features. Most of the
biodegradable wire issues were dealt with. It looks much like the 300SE my kid
drives. His car has a few failures, this one should have no failures for the
price he wants. Value of these things is in the crapper, so the only way
seller gets this amount, the car is near salesroom functional.

Standard failures would be vacuum pump in the rear seat. Door close assist,
trunk close, a few other things. #1 boy got his car at PnP in pretty good
shape with bad wire harness and crapped out trans for $1300. Another $2k to
fix the trans and he was on the road for the past three years. Windows will
fail, the wiper fluid tank gets wonky, Becker radio farts. Black paint is
single stage, so pretty easy to keep looking good.

The striping is fading as I polish. Used the #2 polish and it is beginning to
reflect a bit better as well as having the stripes become less noticeable. I
probably should have buffed it before polishing. As I work on it, I become
less interested in having it perfect and more inclined to let it have
imperfections so that it has some age/character in keeping with its age.

points the crew decides instead of dollar value of the purchase and sale of
unused parts from LeMons. Same safety gear that does not count against you.

SO, if you had a w124, you could LeMons race it if you got it for $500 and any
fixes were paid with sale of seats and other spare parts.

Chump car seems to give the thing a value depending on all the special goodies
that would have come standard which make it a better car than a Toyota.

[MBZ] Clay's Adventure for the First Weekend of Autumn

2016-09-24 Thread clay via Mercedes
In the morning I drove to the Griot's HQ store because they had the 2nd annual
free Speed Shine fill up. Last year it was any size container. This year they
got smart and limit it to 35 oz. My gallon jug got a quart.

THEN, I headed off to the PnP to see the 420SEL that was on the CL listing but
not showing up on Row52.com. I found there were more than just that w126 to
scrounge, and got a power antenna from a w201 to replace the busted shaft one
that came on the car. (I later tested the busted shaft and the motor works, not
sure what the deal with the W201 is).

I picked a few w124 window switch because maybe those were going to fit the
SDL. Not knowing, I found the rear switch in the SDL are fatter post, so
donated the thinner pin switch to the SEL when I snagged the rear switch from
it. I was not sure if I needed front ambers, but, why not? Turned out mine had
some paint mist. Will swap that out. The headlamp wipers on the SEL were toast,
but those from a w124 were in better shape, and the same part number. Polei has
euro lights, so maybe w140 wipers will be better?

I have some overspray from painting Polei that fell upon the wiper arms. The
SEL donated those. When I got home, I did a 600 grit sand on both wiper sets
and that seems to have had a great restorative massaging such that they now
appear blacker and less filthy. Once I am done with the polish and buffing, the
refreshed wipers will be mounted. I figure I can rehabilitate the originals
later.

When I got Polei, she was claimed to have non-functional windows, thus the
desire for fresher switches. There is a box of parts that came with the car,
mostly removed bits the PO squirreled away trying to fix the window issue. The
door panels are off on the driver side, probably in that box. With the panels
missing, the liner is gone as well. The SEL had totally great liner with the
foam at the top. Not going to pass that up! I had been trying to figure out
what mil visquine I would need, but now I have liner for all four doors. I did
not bother with the door speakers, as that would be too silly in a remuddled
German Police vehicle. Also there are no speaker wires to the front doors.

I saw that there were wire connection blocks in the SEL, but could not remember
seeing those on Polei. May as well grab those so I can properly wire the
windows when I effectuate the window repair. AS it turned out, the driver door
was missing its block, so I hooked that up when I got home. Passenger door has
not been messed with and I found out that its window motor make glass go up and
down just fine with the center switch. I had picked up a spare battery, not of
a Group 49 sort, earlier in the year and it was living in my garage on the off
chance I should need an extra battery down the road. While on the Griot's trip,
I stopped at the closest Goodwill store and there was a battery clamp set with
clips on the one end and rings on the other. Maybe 24 inches long, 6 gauge.
When I was home once more, I drug that out to the car and hooked the leads to
the window motor wires. Whachuh know? The motor makes the windows go up and
down just fine. PO was under the impression that the wiring
from the switch to the window motor must have aged out and failed. Could be...
I whipped out my handy multimeter and did a continuity test from the wire block
to the switch plug in. Full continuity.. so therefore, the wiring is good!
Plugged the switch in, turned the key and made the driver window go up and down!

I had made a mess of my trunk threshold with overmuch overspray. The SEL had
its threshold removed and looking very clean and pretty. Into the wheel barrow
with it. I got curious about the lower window trim on the doors. Wanted to see
how it mounted. It came out fairly easy, so decided that I would add that to my
collection. It had the standard oxidation from being on the car. While removing
one trim bit the rubber flashing came off. Hmmm, maybe I can use that too
because I could not remember if my stuff was as good. I did not bother with the
thinner stuff around the door windows.

I had been buffing my R107 hubcaps as part of curb rash repair. I had not
gotten to the white rouge wheel yet, so had the Emery and Tripoli wheels
mounted. The oxidized trim was run through those wheels and then I changed over
to the White Rouge and gave everything a really nice shine. The trim goes on
once the polishing and wax is done on the paint.

I had to remove the side view mirrors to get to the trim. No use wasting them,
as mine are sort of bunged up and need replaced anyway. I also grabbed the
rearview mirror, since mine lost the ability to switch from day to night. I
have yet to figure out just HOW IN THE HELL I get the mirror mounted again.
There must be a magic spell or incantation to get it to insert. A rubber mallet
and lots of strong language did not convince the mirror to go back from whence
it came.

I was tempted to grab the interio

So far I am still not finding why one transmission in the 722.3xx family is any
more gooder than the next. #1 boy has a 722.3 in the 92 SE, and there was all
manner of butt hurt about finding the ONE that was going to work in his car.
Like it was made of mixed race/converted jewish foreskins. I suspect the SDL
and the OM603 300D use the same darn transmission. Not sure the 260E of that
era, or the 300E are any less the same.

row so that I can dump the car at a transmission shop to see why it seems to be
slipping.
