I have to agree with Jerry there isn't a clear choice to which political party and their representation is going to take which liberty away next. Romney had business experience but he also used government to fund some of his successful business ventures. Obama had community building experience to which government funds that as well. Never in a million years would I have supposed that America would support a president who left his (our) people in Bengazi, Libya to die at the hands of our enemies overseas without lifting a hand to help, then lie about what he watched in real time for over two weeks, then lie about the lie for another month. I was wrong. I thought Americans could tell a hawk from a handsaw. I was wrong. We were offered the clearest choice we've has since 1980, where we had malaise and a misery index on one hand and a shining city on a hill on the other. Back then, we chose the city on the hill. This time the choice was between a (loser) man who says 7.9% unemployment and $4.00 gas is the new normal and a guy (a successful man) whose entire career has been about fixing broken entities. We chose to stay broken. And Broke. Maybe I'm wrong about the ramifications of this choice. Maybe windmills will actually turn out to be a viable energy source. Maybe America diminished will be loved overseas. Maybe a nuclear Iran won't be a threat. Maybe Israel is over reacting. Maybe western civilization was always over rated. Maybe life under sharia is not bad at all. Maybe when the rest of the world realizes that we have no intention of ever paying back that $16,000,000,000,000.00 (and counting) that we've borrowed from them, they won't devalue the dollar, causing hyper inflation here at home. Maybe China will just keep on giving us money and not demand our hearts, souls, national monuments and marriageable daughters as payment. I've watched my candidate lose elections before but I've never felt the way I did when this one was called for Obama. It wasn't bitterness or sadness or even disappointment. It took me a while to figure out what it was. Then it hit me; it was horror. Pure, unadulterated horror. Not because of Obama, but because of what it says about us, the American people, that we chose this. It shouldn't have even been close. Faced with the choice between taking charge of our destiny and tackling our financial problems, we opted to get high and have sex. Alice, I went this route about a year ago. Recently All About Dogs and Cats across from the mall hung a sign banning firearms in the store. They said it was because of insurance requirements but they lied so I don't purchase my pet foods there any longer. On line retail outlets are happy to have my business. First off I will admit I know not of Steve, which to me is kind of strange since I do involve myself in many issues involving the city of SPFD. It is pretty much impossible for someone to be involved in the city without me hearing the name or finding actions where they have stood firm in opposition to the SPFD government take-over. I get sick and tired of people saying they are involved in the actions of government when in reality they have done nothing except get signatures so they can be placed on the ballot. The City needs an independent watchdog committee to oversee all financial items at City Hall involving taxpayer dollars, Makoski stated. It must no longer be business as usual that is backed by special interests at City Hall. Makoski said that he would lead an effort to establish a permanent independent financial advisory board to review the City's annual operating and capital budgets, employee pension plans, and neighborhood/community improvement districts. We need an independent watchdog committee that will not be controlled by special interest groups, Makoski stated. We do not need political special interests picking favorites to receive taxpayer dollars. That is crony capitalism, putting Springfield taxpayers at risk of losing their hard-earned tax dollars in high-risk, insider deals. According to Makoski, Springfield taxpayers are struggling to meet their personal financial obligations, much less more sales tax issues down the pike, including storm water and transportation bond proposals next year and a potential 1-cent state sales tax on gasoline. He indicated that the current anemic economic growth puts estimates of future sales tax collections at risk and therefore, putting the City's credit rating at risk, like what has happened to Greene County, Missouri. There are limits as to what Springfield residents can continue to absorb with increases in the city sales tax rate due to proposed new bond issues ahead, Makoski stated. An economic downturn could put new bond issues in a default position. One only has to look at what happened to the Police/Firefighter pension fund that required a new ¾-cent sales tax to bail out the fund over ten years because of the stock market crash. A recent Wall Street Journal article stated that nineteen Federal Reserve economic forecasters had forecasted growth in 2012 to be nearly 4 percent and more than 4 percent for 2013. This shows that even the Fed is way off on their projections with 2012 growth being only half of what they forecasted it would be and the first quarter this year will not even be close to their forecast, according to Makoski. To put Springfield taxpayers at risk due to special interests pushing pet projects is not right. It is time to get the City of Springfield on the right track of fiscal conservatism, instead of being sold a blue-sky bill of goods that puts Springfield taxpayers at risk, Makoski stated. As the Senate investigation proceeds, the situation seems to be going from bad to worse. Previously, we learned that the Department of Revenue was illegally complying with the intrusive federal REAL ID Act and installing new equipment that would upload your personal data to a 3rd party which is being monitored by Homeland Security when you get your driver's or CCW license. Now the Senate has discovered that at least twice the Missouri Highway Patrol has sent the entire list of CCW holders names and addresses to a federal agency, breaking more than one Missouri law in the process. The deputy director of the Missouri Department of Public Safety, under which the Highway Patrol functions, denies any wrongdoing and says they would do it again. Sen. Kurt Schaefer will be conducting hearings around the state to get citizen input and Speaker Tim Jones is planning a fly-around the state to raise awareness of the situation. Additionally, legislation is advancing that will make it clear in no uncertain terms that state departments must protect our personal data. There's one huge problem, though. The General Assembly has very little recourse when rogue department directors refuse to follow the law. The Governor is the only one who can fire them. Simply threatening to cut budgets is not enough. That's where HB 886 http://www.house.mo.gov/billsummary.aspx?bill=HB886 (Rep. Kurt Bahr) comes in. This bill empowers the legislature to remove agency directors and deputy-directors who they feel are misusing their power. Similar to the traditional impeachment process, a removal under HB 886 originates in the House and requires the Senate to agree that it's in the best interest of the People to remove the Governor's appointee. This process is both constitutional and in keeping with the foundational principles of checks and balances. Article VII Sec. 4 provides the authority for HB 866: “Except as provided in this constitution, all officers not subject to impeachment shall be subject to removal from office in the manner and for the causes provided by law.” HB 866 is the “law” that will provide for such removal, and that's good news for anyone concerned about their Second Amendment rights or the security of their personal data. Even better news is the fact that both House and Senate leadership have made it clear that HB 886 is high priority. Even though this bill was filed right before the cutoff date, it has been fast-tracked and will get a hearing this Monday. Tom, that's where you come in. At least two weeks prior to the first of the public hearings, the department of elementary and secondary education shall perform and make publicly available a fiscal analysis of the projected cost to the state and school districts of the implementation of the common core state standards. The analysis shall include the costs of material, equipment, technology, and training, as well as any savings that may be realized. The department shall provide the fiscal analysis to the president pro tempore of the senate, the speaker of the house of representatives, and to the joint committee on education. The department shall publish the fiscal analysis on its internet website. 3. At least two weeks prior to the first of the public hearings, the department of elementary and secondary education shall prepare a report that identifies: (1) Any data that shall be collected as a result of the implementation of the common core state standards; and (2) Any governmental entity, quasi-governmental entity, or consortium that collects data or receives data as a result of the implementation of the common core state standards. 4. That *would* have been a powerful tool in legal battles relating to that right. It would have been if the bill had not been torpedoed by the most powerful guy in the General Assembly, that is. I can't be sure why -- maybe he had a good reason -- but Speaker Tim Jones clearly did not want SJR 14 to pass. Here's the evidence: 1. Although it was passed by the Senate and reported to the House on April 4th, it didn't come up for a vote on the House floor until the last couple of hours of the session. Even then, it was a struggle to get it to the floor and there's reason to believe that he would not allow it to come to the floor unless it was amended -- an action that would surely kill it, since it would, then, have to go back to the Senate for another vote and inevitable filibuster. 3. Once SJR 14 was on the House floor, Tim's cousin, Caleb Jones, did nothing to pitch the bill or warn of the need to pass it without amendments. 4. Once Rep. Rick Brattin offered his pre-planned bill-killing amendment, they shut down the debate before anyone could explain the dangers of amending the bill. 5. In spite of the lack of debate, most of the Republicans understood they needed to vote no. The voice vote was clearly in the favor of the noes, but Speaker Jones called it for the yeas. 6. They then shut down debate on the whole bill and voted it out. 7. The bill then had to go back to the Senate, where it had started back on January 17th and miraculously escaped filibuster. This time, in the final minutes of session, SJR 14 succumbed to the inevitable filibuster. Now the Speaker can claim that the House passed the bill, even though what he did clearly set it up for failure in the Senate. If you have a chance, please ask Speaker Tim Jones why he wanted to kill SJR14 and let me know what he says. It should be noted that a *clear majority* of the Missouri House of Representatives did not want the Brattin amendment and DID want to pass the Senate version of SJR 14. *Missouri Second Amendment Preservation Act Waiting Governor's Signature* As disappointing as the loss of SJR 14 was, we need to remember that *HB 436 was a success*. Speaker Jones *did* allow that to pass. We will see what happens if an override of a veto is needed. It may be several weeks before we know if the Governor vetoes it. The world would soon find out that they were *committed* to the prospect that all legitimate government derives its *just powers from the consent of the governed.* With the signing of the Declaration of Independence, they became *thirteen sovereign states*, designed to better *defend and preserve the unalienable rights* bestowed upon them and their posterity by *God Himself.* Twelve years and a lot of sacrifice and bloodshed into their independence, those thirteen sovereign states *entered into a second compact with one another* when they each ratified what is our current Constitution. (See sidebar.) That compact made the federal government an *agent* of the states, and the states granted that agent *few and defined* powers, authority and jurisdiction. One of the more onerous provisions of Obamacare is the expansion of Medicaid programs in the states. One of the few good things about the U.S. Supreme Court's opinon in the Obamacare case was an expicit statement denying the feds the power to FORCE or otherwise coerce the states into expanding Medicaid. That's good, because the Obamacare expansion of Medicaid would have devastating effects on Missouri's budget as the burden for paying for it shifted from federal grants to state taxpayers. (Of course, the federal grant money came from us too!) In addition to the fiscal consequences, the proposed expansion of Medicaid would have negative social repercussions, since it expands the entitlement class which discourages self-sufficiency and personal accountability. There would likely be negative consequences for the truly needy, too. The group which promotes itself as the conscience of the republican party has once more shown why it is that people are getting frustrated with not only the republicans and the democrats but politics in general. Earlier this year I attended an MRA meeting and they promoted the fact that they were going to follow te constitution as a group from here on out. Well the first thing they promoted was a veterans court with federal funding for veterans with PTSD. When told of constitutional issues at this meeting they waved those off and showed no concern. Here we are in SEPT and they are feasting on one of there own, except the one they are feasting on is one of the few who actually made a constitutional vote. As used in this section, the term automated traffic enforcement system means a camera or optical device designed to record images that depict the motor vehicle, the motor vehicle operator, the license plate of the motor vehicle or other images to establish evidence that the motor vehicle or its operator is not in compliance with state law, ordinance, order, or other provision.
