[Musicpd-dev-team] Can i get VU meter related data while MPD is playing?

2013-10-12 Thread zw g
Dear list,

Can i get VU meter related data/values while MPD is playing? I mean in real
time (yes, almost).

I would like to show a VU meter on the user interface of my player.(Which
uses MPD as back end of course.) When MPD is playing, the VU meter shows
dynamically.

Could it be possible?
Thanks,

Re: [Musicpd-dev-team] Musicpd as a media server client

2013-07-26 Thread zw g
I think it would be nice if someone can work on this.
DLNA is a nice plus for MPD. For mobile, wireless, multiple-room scenarios,
etc.

I hope J.F. Dockes will make some moves.
Since MPD being inactive for months.

 afaik, nobody is working on that. I'm not, because I don't even know
 what DLNA is.

[Musicpd-dev-team] Make a single static build for OS X?

2013-03-09 Thread zw g
Dear list,

I want to share MPD with my friends who are work on *Mac OS X* platform.

Is there a way to compile/package *MPD and all the common dependencies* to
a *single static build* like ffmpeg did?

What i want is to finally make a single MPD static build file and plus a
mpd.conf file, then send this to my friends, they'll be able to run MPD in
their terminal, or through a script i made.

My friends they are not technical type, so compile MPD is not an option:(

Like below, i found the link on *ffmpeg* official website, unzip the file
below you will get a single executable *ffmpeg* binary file, and i tried,
it works great.
http://www.evermeet.cx/ffmpeg/ffmpeg-1.1.3.7z

I have no C/C++ related skills, only some python script experience.
So i hope someone can help or guide me to do this by telling me how can i
make it step by steps. If there are some documents, it would be great.

I know i may ask too much, but is there any chance?
Thanks in advance.

2013-03-09 Thread zw g
Thank you,* *Alexander*.*
*
*
The method you told is indeed a good way to achieve the purpose. (By
macports)
Actually, that's how i install MPD on my MacBook Pro.

But that needs people to (They are not technocial type again):
1) first have a working internet network,
2) then install macports by hand,
3) then issue *sudo port install mpd* to download all the dependencies,
(may by script)
4) compile all thoes packages on the target machine (by macports)
5)  some people may not like to install to many stuff on the machine;
...

What if i insist to build a static build of MPD?
That would be handy, allow me to just copy the static build file(and config
file) to my friends.

Sorry for all the bothers above, if you want to know why i'm so bother for
this?
That is becasue i'm writing a simple GUI interface to control MPD, i want
to share it with my friends in the future.

So...
Thank you again.

 No need. MPD is maintained by MacPorts:

 http://www.macports.org/

 Install ports then simply do:

 $ sudo port info mpd
 mpd @0.17.3 (audio)
 Variants: ffmpeg, mad, mod, modplug, mpg123, universal

 Description: Music Player Daemon (MPD) allows remote access
 for playing music (MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, AAC, Mod, and wave files)
 and managing playlists. MPD is designed for integrating a computer
 into a stereo system that provides control for music playback over a
   local network. It also makes a great desktop
 music player, especially if you are a console junkie, like frontend
 options, or restart X often.
 Homepage: http://www.musicpd.org/

 Build Dependencies:   pkgconfig
 Library Dependencies: audiofile, cdparanoia, curl, faad2, flac, glib2,
 libcue, libiconv, libid3tag, libmpcdec, libogg, libvorbis, zlib
 Platforms:darwin
 License:  GPL-2+ LGPL-2.1
 Maintainers:  rmstonecip...@macports.org,
 openmaintai...@macports.org

 $ sudo port install mpd

 etc.

 Your script can do that for them.

 If we choose to have custom event loops, having custom loop in Windows
 port seems a wise idea too. It should use WaitForMultipleObjects()
 instead of select() (like Glib). This could help with implementation of
 auto update feature because underlying API could notify file system
 changes via waitable HANDLE. Also WakeFD could be simplified to single
 event object instead of current poor socket pair.

[Musicpd-dev-team] Can MPD do the fade-in fade-out?

2013-01-22 Thread zw g
Dear list,

As the subject says:
Is there any way to let MPD do the fade-in fade-out effects while i play,
stop or pause the audio?

* play ( fade-in effect)
* stop or pause (fade-out effect)
It'd be better if the fade in/out time or length could be configured by
user.

As i know, Clementine Amarok can do this well.
Any reply would be appriciated.

[Musicpd-dev-team] Duration of song with millisecond info?

2012-07-29 Thread zw g
Dear guys,

For the duration of each song in the current playlist or in the database,
can we have *seconds.milliseconds* form instead of *seconds* only?

What i mean is like below:
*246.486*  instead of  *246*

Now in the current MPD version:
From asking MPD by using `client.playlistinfo()` request by using
python-mpd2,
what i get is int type represents duration of each song in *seconds* form.

I think that is not accurate enough for computing the duration of whole
playlist, especially for large playlist.

Maybe i understood this wrong, if so, someone please correct me and point
me out.
Thanks in advance.

I hope don't do this. That would be pity, very.

I am using MPD on my macbook pro everyday, and it works just fine.
I didn't found any *playback* bug yet.(from Version 0.16.3 ~ 0.17)

I have no skill to take this task, but i still hope to keep this feature.
And keep the chance for someone someday.
From my aspect, MPD is the best player, and i use it everyday on OS X.

Thank you guys very much for such a awesome player.

 Yes, seconds is enough accuracy. Especially for large playlists!
 If the playlist is two songs of 1 minute each, that makes 120 seconds
 in total. When both lengths are inaccurate by 1 second (maximum!), that
 means 120 +- 2 seconds, that is an error of less then 2%. Quite good
 already.
 If the playlist is large like 300 songs of 3 minutes each, that makes
 900 minutes material or 54000 seconds. The error is 1 second per
 song. So the length of a song is 180+-1 second or less then half a
 percent per song. For this large amounts of songs, doing the
 error-calculation by adding the larges values is giving an overly large
 error, the real error will be much smaller, probably less the 0.1%. And
 who needs a playlist-length of 54000 seconds accurate to less 0.1 percent?

 For some reason, i need to create m3u playlists with other player.
 The created m3u playlist file was in UTF-8 encoding,
 and paths/names inside the m3u playlist are all in the music directory of
 MPD already,
 and also wrote as relative path to the music directory.

 Then i copy that m3u file to the playlist folder of MPD;
 the problem is that if there are non-ASCII names inside the m3u files,
 then the playlist will not be handled correctly by MPD.
 That says when you load that playlist file to the current queue, only
 paths/names within ASCII characters will be handled correctly by MPD.
 The others just not shown at all.

 But if i open/edit the m3u playlist file by notepad.exe, then save it as
 an ANSI encoding file, then MPD handle it correctly.
 Any advice?

 Here is my env:
 OS version: Windows 7 Professional
 MPD version: 0.16.8.

 Ok, I've just looked at source of MPD and glib and it seems there is a bug
 lies in between. MPD uses g_filetest() function to check if file really
 exists, but glib redefines g_filetest to be actually g_filetest_utf8(),
 which expected file name to be in UTF-8 instead of windows default encoding.

 The most tricky part is device parameter. It could be specified by either
 name that is displayed in control panel or device number.

 MPD uses WinMM API which has some limitations on device name (something
 about 30 character). This causes name to be truncated. Thus if you have
 multiple same sound cards it would be impossible to choose one of them. You
 can use device number which is simple device index starting from 0.
 You'll need to find out device number for each sound card.

On Thu, May 10, 2012 at 10:12 PM, Denis Krjuchkov de...@crazydev.netwrote:

 As I've said this is the most tricky part.

 Windows allocates continuous range of IDs starting with 0.

 Probably this is the order that is used in control panel, but I'm not

 hardware setup is changed.

 You can try the following simple program:

 #include stdio.h
 #include windows.h

 int main()
 {
UINT i;
WAVEOUTCAPS caps;

for (i = 0; i  waveOutGetNumDevs(); i++) {
waveOutGetDevCaps(i, caps, sizeof(caps));
printf(%d: %s\n, i, caps.szPname);
}

return 0;
 }

 It will give you imagination how MPD sees your sound cards.
 If you can guess what is what after running it you are done.

 Otherwise you'll have to brute force those numbers by trying to play
 something via MPD with each possible device number.

Hmm, Odd.
I'll try to run MPD using verbose mode.

Report here later.

[Musicpd-dev-team] Multiple soundcards on Windows

2012-05-09 Thread zw g
Dear List,

If i have more than one sound cards in my PC *running Windows 7
professional.*
How can i enable MPD to use them as separated audio channel?

For example, if i have four sound cards, can i configure MPD and mpd.conf
and launch it like this:

./mpd.exe ./mpd.conf.6600# For playing music
./mpd.exe ./mpd.conf.6601# For playing vocals (Modify the port value
from 6600 to 6601 inside mpd.conf)
./mpd.exe ./mpd.conf.6602# For playing effects (Modify the port value
from 6600 to 6602 inside mpd.conf)
./mpd.exe ./mpd.conf.6603# For playing others (Modify the port value
from 6600 to 6603 inside mpd.conf)
...

Is it possible to configure MPD like what i want *on Windows platform?*
Each MPD instance corresponding to one sound card.

Thanks in advance.

[Musicpd-dev-team] Bug of MPD 0.16.8? Crashed every time.

2012-05-08 Thread zw g
Dear List,

There maybe a bug of the latest release MPD 0.16.8.

I run MPD on my Mac OS X 10.7.3 which was installed by: *port install mpd*

Every time i put a mp4/m4a audio file to the current playlist and start to
play that one,
at first the playback was just fine, but if you change to another song(by
next/previous or whatever you picked) or just let it finished itself to
change to another song, MPD will crash.

And from now, you can play a song anymore, even you restart MPD service.

The only way to let MPD work again is:
Go to the playlist folder, delete the 'current' used playlist, or the
mp4/m4a song inside the playlist. Then restart the MPD service, it will
work again.

I can reproduce this each time.
Can anyone confirm this?

[Musicpd-dev-team] MPD loop feature?

2012-04-10 Thread zw g
Guys,

Maybe a stupid question:

Can MPD loops one song inside a playlist? (with playlist length 1.)
I just found that MPD's *repeat* func., but it is repeat the whole
playlist.

Is there a way to loop just one song if i prefer from the playlist?
Sometimes it is nice to have that feature while you meet a great song.

Thanks.

  I really love that.

 AFAIK, auto_update is as of now only supported through inotify, which is
 a Linux interface.

 Both Mac OS X[1] and Windows[2] seem to have interfaces to get file
 system notifications, and glib also has an interface (GFileMonitor[3])
 that might work on all three major operating systems.

 Dear Jat,

 Sorry for my rude if you feel uncomfortable.

 I am a python newbie, and i would like to write a MPD front-end by using
 python-mpd from you, huge thanks to you and your great job.

 From my other music player's experience, like Amarok, Clementine..., i
 notice there is a cool feature called Queue which i liked very much.
 And that feature can be used for some particular time,e.g: a music party
 which let you predefine some songs before others.

 After read from MPD's protocol documents, i found that actually MPD
 provides the Queue feature by prio and prioid commands which you can
 find from the following url:
 http://www.musicpd.org/doc/protocol/ch03s04.html

 Now my request is: Could you help us to add Queue , maybe prio and
 prioid function for python-mpd?
 I think most people would appreciate you for your great,great, great job!

 If you're happy to do that, could you let us know? (or post a plan on the
 python-mpd page?)
 Really appreciate.

 Best regards,
 Gui
