I finally found the problem, you did it also. To invoke the c++ compiler, try the command: g++ myfile.cpp I'd guess the other spellings invoke different scrips or make that don't cause the c++ iostream library to be available. good luck, ralph >From: "T-Bond" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Subject: Re: [newbie] gcc >Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2001 15:29:14 -0800 > >Hi >I got the same problem. [newbie] No CDROM2 in MDK 7.2
I have Mandrake 7.0 and 7.2 on separate hard drives.. 7.0 has cdrom, cdrom1 and cdrom2 under /dev and 7.2 has cdrom and cdrom1 but no cdrom2 under its /dev so I'm unable to run applications that use cdrom2 in 7.2. How can I get cdrom2 into 7.2's /dev? Would it be feasible to just copy from 7.0 to 7.2 /dev's? If not, how should it be done?

Re: [newbie] Cd Icons on Desktop
its /etc/mtab that tells you what actually gets mounted at boot. fstab is what you hope gets mounted. Can you not mount manually in a terminal? To make an icon, right click the desktop and choose which type of shortcut you want then fill in the blanks. In this case it would probably be a cdrom device. -s On Thursday 22 March 2001 09:58 pm, you wrote: > Hi > 7.2 Supermount in fstab . > How do I creat icons for CD drive and Cd DVD drive.Still unable to mount > these drives inspite of fact that fstab states these drives are mounted. > Regards > Maurice Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1"; name="Attachment: 1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Description:

[newbie] SMB Errors
Hi, I am having a problem with smb. On the home network I ahave a Linux box (Mandrake 7.0 kernel 2.2.14), and a number of Win 98 machines. Every 15 mins the Linux box downloads some files from one of the Win boxes. This works flawlessly until the win box dies (as it is prone to do) and is restarted. After this I get the following when Linux tries to download the files: smb_retry: signal failed, error=-3 smb_retry: signal failed, error=-3 smb_lookup: find //VWS_IMAGES failed, error=-5 So far the only way I have found to fix this is restart Linux, smbumount doesn't work Any ideas??? I was a little disappointed finding that few of the basic (necessary, imo) networking tools aren't installed on the quick 'n easy install. But not a problem, I think it's in the RPMS directory as networktools or something. Open your DrakConf, go to PackageManager & look through all the stuff. You'll find numerous things you'll want to install & even some things installed you'll want to remove. That's actually handled by ~/.xsession file. At the end, after any stuff you want to open, you put this: exec /usr/bin/enlightenment In your case, you'd want exec /usr/bin/gnome or whatever the actual path to whatever wm you want. My whole .xsession (for now) looks like this: #!/bin/sh # Execute enlightenment. ALWAYS make sure this is at the end of # this startup file - and ALWAYS run things before it with an & # at the end. # For example: # xterm & # kpanel & # It is suggested to use Enlightenment's Remember dialog for # having apps spawned automatically on login. panel & xscreensaver & exec /usr/bin/enlightenment Be sure you ~/.Xclients is a pointer to ~/.xsession too. [newbie] Grub Boot Problems
I apologize for being a complete idiot newbie, but I've got some problems. I rebooted the other day from the Windows side and instead of it giving me the GUI to pick which side I wanted to boot, it gave me the grub prompt. I was able to find out how to get back to windows, but nothing has worked to get me back to Linux. In fact, when I do a find /boot/vmlinuz I get nothing in return. I can find things on the windows side, but nothing on the linux side. Any suggestions? Jessie B. __ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! Mail. http://personal.mail.yahoo.com/
[newbie] ISDN Dialup
I installed Linux Mandrake 7.2 yesterday and everything went like a breeze. My ISDN-car was found and installed (Dynalink tas106) and even my ISP in Norway were on the ISP list with the corect settings (I double checked them). But when I opened the dialer program (DarkMagick or something) and started dialing it say that it didnt connect and that I should check the settings again (witch I did several times). Now this is working nicely in both Win ME and Win 2000, but not on Mandrake. Is there a logfile or something i could check to see what went wrong? Or better yet, what do you guys need to see to understand whats wrong? Now remember that im ULTRA Newbie at this stuff so please put it as easy as possible.

Re: [newbie] HELP... please
Hi, Sounds like PPP is the problem, I think you need root privileges to run ppp so it terminates. Way around this is to set the 'Setuid' bit so anyone who runs it , runs it with root privs. Check these files: /usr/bin/kppp /usr/sbin/pppd then as root do the following: do a ls -l to find the permissions, you should get: -rwsr-xr-x 1 root root on both files, notice the 's' if its not set to s then do a chmod u+s [filename] to both files make sure root is owner and group if not do: chown root root [filename] try this, if it doesnt cure it dont despair as there are a few more things which might need checking ;-) Regards Sard.
