[newbie] xfig problem

Hi folks.

I have this strange problem with xfig. It doesn't export any of my

What might be the problem? I've read somewhere that there was similar
issue in RH6.2 due to some package build error or somethin`. I'm using
xfig-3.2.4-5mdk from 10.0 and transifg-3.2.4-3mdk.

No. My ISP doesn't even give me any e-mail account, so I doubt they

[newbie] mail problem

2004-11-12 Thread Cezary Morga
Hi 'all.

Sorry for bugging ya but I've got this problem and I'm begining to think
that it might be something wrong 'round here - at my box.

I've got four mail accounts on polish free mail servers. Unfortunately I
keep experiencing some problems when trying to send anything from three
of them via SMTP. It takes a lot of time to just connect to them - the
rest goes swell. Only one of them - the one I'm using right now - works
without a hitch.

It didn't happen some time ago. I really doubt that there's something
wrong on the server side. The same problem occurs on Evolution, KMail
and Sylpheed/Sylpheed-Claws so it's not a program fault. I thought that
it might be even 'cause of firewall but shutting it down and clearing
iptables did not help.

Unfortunately I have no possibility to check it on any other distro/box
right now. And I kinda doubt that it might be my ISP's fault.

Maybe it derives from my ram problems posted on expert list? Maybe
someone could point me to some good and free mail service abroad?

Are you sure your running the nvidia, not the nv video driver. Check

be running nv and not even know it.

The reason this was done was that too many people complained that X would
not start and they got dumped to a command line if the nvidia driver was
not installed properly. Now X will start, but the driver reverts to nv, so
a lot of people that had troubloe installing the nvidia driver are running
nv and they don't even know the thing didn't get installed properly.

How to do that? Though I believe I'm running nvidia (the nvidia splash appears

rebuild. Everything should work out of the box, so when you type startx,
 it will do just fine.

As for your second question, you can run a new x server by typing:
'startx -- :1' (and 2, 3, 4, etc for as many x servers as you want)

Thanx, that works... and saves me a lot of time from logging in and out of
KDEs...
I've also, finally, installed Xorg but I don't see any difference between
XFree 4.3, which I was using previously, and Xorg 6.7.0, which I'm running
now...
Quick question : previously all the settings where in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4,
now I should look for it in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, right?

believe what to change will be printed on the screen and available in readme

If you weren't able to succesfuly compile any program (pass to make install

have source files. If you have done make install and not removed sources then
you can type make uninstall and that also should help.
About your problems with compiling progz I'd say it's 'cause you don't have
required libraries (the devel ones). You can download them from the net (also
as sources or rpms) or check for them on your distribution cds.
I'm a complete linux newbie but I believe that the problem is lacking libs. I
