Up until 8.2 I'd mount them from the command line with: mount -t udf /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom. However, in MDK9 (which I've only been using for a couple of weeks) they seem to mount automatically. Writing to them is a different kettle of worms altogether. So far as I know it can't be done yet. Re: [newbie] Mandrake Software Manager problem
No it doesn't. Get the message that it can't find the mirror list, that I have to wait and try later because network could be down or server unreachable or whatsoever... Tried this for two weeks (can surf and email without probs) and finally inserted a mirror manually in MSM, typing rather long command in console. Now it works, but I never got the MDK mirror list that's on the MDK website for updates automatically. Re: [newbie] update mirrors MDK 9.0
I found a hint in expert mailing list. In console typed as root: urpmi.addmedia --update mirrors.secsup.org \ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandrake/Mandrake/updates/9.0/RPMS \with ../base/hdlist.cz added medium mirrors.secsup.org This worked, made a new entry in MsoftwareManager (MSM), so that I could update all I wanted. Unfortunately, I messed around with the entry for CD1 in Mandrake Software Manager (MSM), deleted it and than added it again. Now when I try to add software from CD1, the system keeps asking me for CD1, even when the CD is in the CD player. Ejects CD1 and asks for it at the same time. Doesn't seem to recognize CD1 any more. Can I set this MSM back to the original values (kind of reset to default) without having to reinstall MDK 9.0 all over again? I used to remember how to add to the PATH but forgot since i usually end up installing everything in /usr/local and just make a link in /usr/bin anymore. I'm sure someone else knows the command to do it. Jerry. you can do: export /home/luc/whateverdirectoryyouputitin/:$PATH - but in reality, munging junk like that into a stable system ain't always good. Jerry's got the right idea by making sure you install programs into the proper binary directories - as I stated before... Thanks Can you ping the IP address of the Win98 box? If so, read on...if not, then you've got a problem...! You're going to have to make sure that the VNC Server that's running on the Win98 box has a password set for administative access. You should be able to click START \ PROGRAMS \ VNC \ ADMINISTATIVE TOOLS \ SHOW DEFAULT SETTINGS - in there you can set/reset the password for access. Make sure you put one in there and click OK. On the linux box, start your VNC Viewer with: vncviewer XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:0 (if you do it from a terminal you'll see if there are any errors. This should work (I use VNC constantly for PC's running Windows and for Mac's) - if it doesn't work, then we might need to start looking into your TCP/IP networking... VNC is fairly foolproof - it's dependent on IP networking - unless you can't ping the Win98 machine. -- Tue Dec 17 03:50:00 EST 2002 3:50am up 6:51, 2 users, load average: 0.08, 0.18, 0.30 .o0 linux user:267497 0o. |____ | kühn media australia | / \ /| |'-. | http://kma.0catch.com | .\__/ || | | | | _ / `._ \|_|_.-' | stephen kühn | | / \__.`=._) (_ | email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] | |/ ._/ || | email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] | |'.
