Owen,

Normally since June we have deeply improved the customer care of
MandrakeStore. If there is any case which was badly handled we need to
know (me and Paul) so we can quickly fix the problem and work to avoid
it in the future.

Jacques.

Nearly all responses to my suggestion that the Action Editor of Smart
Computing could induce Mandrake to explain why customers were being
ignored were, don't do it.So minding the sentiments of others I
have another suggestion.
Write to Jean Brice Demoulin, Marketing Manager for MandrakeSoft at
the Paris office. A resonable explaination that customer goodwill and
loyalty is being declining by Mandrake's lack of response. Most
customers would be patient and understanding once they understood the
nature of the problem.

I ignored the lack of a signature file and continued to install using
rpmdrake. The installation appeared to go well but when I tried to find
Fax2Send I could not find the program. I did a file search and found
that there were many files installed but I can't find any that would
initiate a program.

Having searched out there U. S. headquarters (626-292-6290) I learned
that it has been closed. If you want to contact them you better be
prepared to make a phone call to France.
I bought the Definative Manual and as soon as I got it the pages
began to fall out. Phone calls to and e-mails have been unsucessful.
They have fairly well closed all lines of communications except if you
want to buy something. But beware if you want satisfaction concerning a

[newbie] printing problem

2003-07-26 Per discussione owenb

This is a recent development.
When I try to print I get the following message.
Catastrophe! - KNotify
A print error occurred.
Error message received from system.
Error while reading filter description for true.
Empty command line received.

Print KGhost View gives the following:
Printer HPDeskjet 855c.
Comment: HP Deskjet 855C, Foomatic + hpijs (recommended)
Print system currently used CUPS (common UNIX Print System) connected
to local host 631

No matter what printer I designate or what print system is designated I
get the same error message.
Until a few days ago the designated printer would print. I must of
done something,
The question is now how to undo it.

[newbie] Still no KdeprintFax

2003-07-19 Per discussione owenb
After following several suggestions to activate the fax feature of
Open Office. It still doens't work. After the initial disk
installation I installed all the updates associated with the 9.1 prior
to trying to utalize the KdeprintFax. I don't know if this introduced
problems or not. Now I'm wondering if I should reinstall 9.1? Would
I have to start by reformating the HD partition? Any suggestions I
just want to be able to fax from Open Office. I don't care if it is
KdeprintFax, Efax or any other software as long as it works.

I did follow Derek's suggestion below and it did get faxing to work
from Kword but not Open Office.

Derek Jennings wrote:

Print to File (PDF)
Print to File (Postscript)
Send to Fax (not Print to fax)
If they are not there then it is easy enough to add them.
Open KDE ControlCentrePeripheralsPrinters
Select Administrator mode.
Right click in the white area, select 'Add special (pseudo) printer'
In the pop up configuration box give it a name and in the 'Command

And did you follow my instructions here
http://www.jennings.homelinux.net/fax_cups.html to add qtcups as a printer to
OpenOffice? If you do that, then when you print with OpenOffice qtcups will
appear as one of the printers available, and that leads you into exactly the
same printer dialogue as Kword.

Reinstalling or reformatting will not help. It is just a matter of defining
qtcups as an OpenOffice printer.

Follow the tutorial on my web site
http://www.jennings.homelinux.net/fax_cups.html

You know if you are using CUPS if cups is listed as active in the
services window of Mandrake Control CentreSystem. It is the default
for Mandrake so it should be running. (If it is not you can select
the print system with the printer GUI in Mandrake Control Centre)

In the KDE print window make sure CUPS is selected in the Print
service used drop down.

Thanks for the tip but in my printer selection, Print to fax is not a

I think the file has to be a postscript file.
The easy way to use kdeprintfax is to open whatever file you want to fax in an
editor or word processor and then press the 'Print' button. When the printer
dialogue box appears use the drop down menu in the printer selection to
select Print to fax
You will then enter kdeprintfax.

There is a tip on my web site about using faxes from OpenOffice which may help
you.

[newbie] Getting Mandrake's attention

2003-06-25 Per discussione owenb
How do I get a response concerning defective Mandrake merchandise?
I tried what e-mail and phone number I could find without any response.
I bought, The Definitive Manual for version 9.0 just prior to the
release of the 9.1 version. The book had nearly no use when the pages
began falling out. Not one or two but in groups. It is obvious that the
glue holding the pages in the binding has a problem.
All I want is a replacement for this older version manual. I'm not
trying to ding Mandrake for the 9.1 version.
I didn't have any problem having Mandrake take my money when I bought
the book, the 9.0 software and the 9.1 software.
Does anyone know how to gain satisfaction?
