I don't know what happened, but I got dummy update suggestions right
after installation. And I've already installed four proposed real
updates, three of them from openSUSE, one from madwifi. Works just fine.
Still I am running into bug 217326 on my RC1.

[opensuse-factory] Dummy Updates for Yast YOU

2006-11-25 Thread Keith Goggin
Hi,

1. I've added to
opensuseupdater in both 10.2b2 and 10.2RC1.

In 10.2b2 opensuseupdater shows 7 patches available.

In 10.2RC1 opensuseupdater shows none?

2. What happened to the dummy update I asked for back in September?

3. So far I've not seen any suggestion of how we might test Yast YOU /
opensuseupdater / Zen. Bearing in mind that "system updating" was the
single
biggest failure in SUSE10.1, I am more than a little puzzled that
nothing
seems to have been done.

I for sure can't. I started to install RC1 in vmware and now I can see the
whole beauty of this winter bootscreen. Here I can indeed change the boot
parameter. But my notebook does not show the whole bootscreen, I only see the
menu in the center but not the animations at the left and bottom and not the
input line for the parameter.
This did work with beta2!

You might find it easy, but vsftpd is still 10x easier. And before you
can put an alias, you have to set up the whole damn lot. Not my choice
for when I "just want".

> Running FTP on non-standard ports isn't a very good idea though - IMHO.

Entirely depends on what you want it for. On the LAN anything goes.

One process per port and directory to serve, with editing a file in
/etc/sysconfig/ being the most required to set it going by
init.d/vsftpd. Minimum data required would be ftp root directory,
optional port number, optional config file (default /etc/vsftpd.conf).

> mount --bind is an option (too bad hard links don't work across

You'd have to hardlink a directory! Even if the filesystem supports it
(which do?), mount --bind might be the better option.

I doubt that. My oldest hardware is 97/98 and it doesn't need it. Those
boxes (of mine) have 64MB RAM max, SUSE doesn't even install on that any
more since 10.0(?).

Question: how many systems out there which have 128MB RAM need a
separate /boot partition?

My answer is very few, if any.

[opensuse-factory] fsck 1.39 (29-May-2006) in 10.2b2 & 10.2RC1

2006-11-25 Thread Keith Goggin
Hi,

I've been in the habit of mounting all my partitions at boot time and have
noticed (since openSUSE10.2b2) that the new version of fsck which is run
against mounted linux partitions other than (/ and swap) does not like pre
openSUSE10.2b2 ReiserFS partitions.

I don't know if this is a bug but it is a nuisance in dual/multi boot
situations.

See Mandrake installer. The partition tool is totally sweet. Sometimes I
still carry one disk 1 of mandrake, just to manipulate the disk's

As I told M9 in other mail, there is some nice tools outside. Still, would

Running FTP on non-standard ports isn't a very good idea though - IMHO.

Ok. Yeah, that sucks with all FTP daemons except ProFTPd.
AFAICR, ProFTPd has directory mapping configuration directives, pretty
much like Apache's aliases. OTOH, the use of ProFTPd isn't really
encouraged -- vsftpd has a much better security record.
Didn't check pure-ftpd recently.

- From what I've tried to do with it, vsftpd is not very flexible wrt
directory mapping. One base directory for anonymous, period.

mount --bind is an option (too bad hard links don't work across
partitions, but mount --bind does pretty much the same, even though it's
limited to directories, but that's something everyone can live with, I
guess).

Sorry, I don't understand how you'd want to configure such directory
mappings with vsftpd (and without mount --bind) ... ?

[opensuse-factory] bcm43xxx on Asus A2D Laptop

2006-11-25 Thread Peter Buschbacher
Hello folks!
I´m just trying to find out how to get my Broadcom-WLAN on my Asus A2D Laptop
working. As this is the first version with the bcm43xxx-module integrated in
the kernel I have no experience in setting up wireless networks on Linux. So
I asume I´m doing something wrong.
What I did:
I updated today from a fresh beta2 to RC1 from a local directory (yum-repo).
I tried to setup the card in yast:
-I choosed the networkmanager-method.
-e.g I chosed : "start at boot" instead of "start when cable is plugged in"
which was the original state after installation.

then I tried to start the connection via Knetwormanager-applet.
From the other OS I know :
Authentfication:open
key: WEP

Result: The statusbar grows up to 28% (Status Gerätekonfiguration) and then
stagnates.

What can I do? / What is the prefered Way to do this ?

I would really be happy if I can get some help to get this working

Peter Buschbacher

Following:
some of the output of dmesg:
first part bootprocess, last part one try with knetworkmanager I think.

but setting up vsftpd is still a *lot* easier + faster than doing the
same with apache.

> You can't.

Yes I can do. Open your mind ;)

It is easy to run one vfstpd per port, on the same IP address. Which is
about the same as running one per IP address on the same port as far as
"virtual hosting" (haha) is concerned. My interest isn't in virtual
hosts anyway, but in directory mapping:

  /usr/dir1/-> ftp://../dir1/
  /data/suse/   -> ftp://../suse/
  /disk/big/-> ftp://../big/

It's not so difficult to support this via init.d runlevel script, and
I'm thinking of implementing it.

Alternatively I can arrange my disks to suit vsftpd, which I'm not going
to do, or use mount --bind.

They can be resized online when you're using LVM and reiserfs (or XFS,

Thnx for all the advice, but to remaster a live-cd just to use a
partitioner, is a little overdone..(might be nessesary in the future, if
there is not going to be added a usefull one..)
I can not believe, that i am the only one, who thinks, that the
available partitioners do not work.
If you do not use LVM, you can not use it to make changes afterwards..
If you use LVM, you can not make changes afterwards...
If you use the partitioner from yast, which i do, you are not able to
throw away, and recreate partitions, simply because you can not see what
you are doing. You can only make partitions smaller, not move or resize a
usable way.. it is not praktical to count all the cylinders, because
than a simple transaction takes few hours, you have to calculate
everything
In this time, that would not be nessesary anymore.
I realy mean this.
Everybody who uses them, knows that it is true what i am saying, because
it is.

You can't.
And you can't do name-based virtual hosting with FTP, only IP based
virtual hosting.
If you can host different IPs, it's quite easy to do by running vsftpd
through xinetd (and a different config file for each + binding to each
IP using xinetd).

Swap partitions have to be handled by the partitioner. From (old)
memory, swap files are inefficient and are best avoided. Just because
the competition can't do better doesn't mean Linux must do it too. They
can also be created with 2 easy commands. Ok, 3: dd, sync, swapon.

What I would really like is some quick and easy way to create multiple
"document roots" with vsftpd, even if it means cranking up multiple
instances of it.

Which configuration variables in /etc/ssh/sshd_config would you like
yast to tweak?

I do think it's time SUSE disabled protocol 1 by default.

Sorry, but 3D desktop gimmicks with high geek factor but zero practical
use are not "really *very* needed" IMHO, but I do observe that eye candy
seems to sell well with some.

Your problem is to have a /boot partition altogether. They haven't been
needed in many years. If you decide to make a /boot anyway and make it
only 15M, it's your own fault. ;)

Of course you do this every so often anyway? Well I do.

I believe LVM has given you this functionality for many years now.

Beyond yast partitioner I hear qtparted is not too bad, though I'm not
sure whether integrating something like this into yast is top priority.

The program is lying around, a small footprint livecd could be done if you
want. But I don't see any reason to do it, since there is already working
alternatives.

In case of interest, much of the distro-cutted-down work is done in the
microSuSE universe (which also targets i386):

http://en.opensuse.org/MicroSUSE

as another option there was a suse live evalution, I don't know if it's
still uptodate, but could be easily updated and hacked to suit this need.

For more general advice on this, there is an article in lj about how to do
your own livecd:

I have actually submitted a request more than a year ago. Hope someone

Have you tried QTParted? It's really nice, and works exactly in the same way
than Partition Magic: Boot with their own boot disk, do the changes and
restart.

Would be nice to have an option in the opensuse installer disk to work as

This is needed indeed, the available partioning features are 'antique',
and not realy usable during use, only when all is 'clean'.

I have a /boot partition 2 cyl big: 15M.
With the new kernels it is too small, so when updating a kernel, i have
to throw the 'oldon' away, before the 'new one can get installed...
That means that during an upgrade, when i am not present, the system
waits, because of the 'problem': it kan not install the kernel

There is no way to enlarge this partition, or move or split or whatever
partition, because it is nessesary...

Only way is throw everything away, or move it across a network, burn it
on a dvd...

I think, with all the changes, ext2, ext3, reiser, and all the
consequenses, that it is time, for linux, to have a real partitioner,
like Parttion Magic, which batches the needed changes, and completes the
transaction before booting the system.
We must also be able to move, split and delete or create partitions, as
we see fit..

I am not going to sacrifice my'/home' for one cylinder...

How about others?
Are there no others who would want to realy controle the volumes?

[opensuse-factory] Re: Factory source for Internet installation

2006-11-25 Thread Terje J. Hanssen
I've downloaded and installed the CD isos for 10.2 RC1, both OSS and
non-OSS. However there are some packages I need and that I don't find
afterwards with YaST>Programs>Add-Remove software.

These single rpms are however found in the factory links, but which have
to be downloaded and installed manually from a terminal:

http://ftp.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/
http://ftp.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-Factory-non-oss/inst-source-extra/

Why isn't these sources added automatically to YaST at the 10.2 RC1
installation?

I've tried to add them as Yast HTTP Installation sources, but without
succeed so far (errors like a server name is needed or url path).

Therefor, what is the correct parts to be added as respective
server name?
url path?

Thanks,
Terje J. Hanssen

in the partitioner module ? Swap files ?
You can already manage swap partitions in the partitioner.

Might be so, but the shorter it 'can' be the better.
This goes also for the mirrors.

This happened to me yesterday, with Beta2, on a 32bit ibm, which has no
dvd-drive..
After a text-mode install,(too less space for g environment ?
nonsense..) and i put in the addon for the dutch files, i could not get
it out of the drive, not even with the button.
I had to restart, to get the drive open, just before starting up again..
This is not nice..

(10.0 did great, np on the drive with that.)

The update from the homemade dvd on the 64bitbox did just fine, except
that it had to remove my libxine, and when i installed it again, there
were too many complaints about amarok and kaffeine, which i ignored,
because it is crap. I also had to take it from the 10.1 repo, because
suddenly, it was not available for 10.2 anymore (?)
It was in the list, but when i wanted to dl, it was not found on the
media...(hmmm.)( i tried several times during few days...)

I am not going to be without music!
Who is responsible for this nonsense anyway?
No helix, ok, but also no libxine is outrageous..

On th other ahnd i must say that i like the os very much...

About the grub bug, the beta2 i386 version has it too, but probably
allready known

[opensuse-factory] Massive Feature Request of new Yast Modules for 10.3

2006-11-25 Thread Alexey Eremenko

Hi all !

As 10.2 release nears I think into future - 10.3 features - and I
would like to request massive updates in Yast - that is - new modules
that I would like to see:

1. Swap Manager (Yast GUI to manage swap files & partitions)
2. FTP Server (Yast GUI to manage vsFTPd)
3. SSH Server (Yast GUI to manage openssh)
4. NX Server (Yast GUI to manage FreeNX terminal server, based on ssh)
5. Sax3D (Yast/Sax GUI to manage XGL/AIGLX & Compiz for 3D Desktop Effects)

Those modules are really *very* needed by the SUSE community.
Unfortunately I don't know YCP to program those modules myself, so I
ask those, who can do it. The documentation I found is very scarse &
poor, disallowing me to write anything useful - anything beyond "Hello
World" in YCP.

I would like you to recall that Yast has no been updated since SUSE
9.x times (except maybe AppArmor) and people saw no new modules since
then. I think it is time to revise what we have.

What do you think ?

-Big thanks in advance

What about this to keep it simple and stupid:

../opensuse/distribution/10.2/oss
../opensuse/distribution/10.2/non-oss
../opensuse/distribution/10.2/debug
../opensuse/distribution/10.2/src-oss
../opensuse/distribution/10.2/src-non-oss
../opensuse/distribution/10.2/iso/
../opensuse/distribution/10.2/iso/cd
../opensuse/distribution/10.2/iso/dvd
../opensuse/distribution/10.2/iso/deltas
../opensuse/distribution/10.2/iso/torrent

../opensuse/distribution/factory/oss
../opensuse/distribution/factory/non-oss
../opensuse/distribution/factory/debug
../opensuse/distribution/factory/src-oss
../opensuse/distribution/factory/src-non-oss
../opensuse/distribution/fatcory/iso/

../opensuse/distribution/stable/  --> link to 10.2 or whatever

I see no need for an additional "repositories" entry. I also would not split
non-oss and oss for CDs/DVDs, as the amount of 10-20 iso files fits in a
normal browser window.

Then you will the messages on console 4:

hda: irq timeout: status=0x10d { busy }
ide: failed opcode was: unkown
hda: DMA disabled
hda: ATAPI reset complete

If you try to access the 2nd CD after the reset, by clicking OK in the message
boy, you will see now:

attempt to access beyond end of device
hda: rw=0, want=1419404, limit=1335712
Buffer I/O error on device /dev/hda, logical block 354850

If I switch to a console and run md5sum on the 2nd CD I get a wrong checksum
But if I put the CD into another PC the checksum is OK again.
When running md5sum on CD1 on the new PC all is OK
Then I burned another CD2 on the other PC , verified it before inserting
with md5sum and the exact same buffer error occurs again.
and running md5sum on the new PC gives exact the same wrong value as before.
with the other media. back in the other PC checksum id OK again.
And if reboot on the new PC from installation into the rescue system and run
md5sum on CD2 it is OK again.
Changing the DVD drive to another model and moving it from primary IDE to
secondary IDE doesn't change anything
Also using the pata_nv driver instead of amd74xx only changes the error
message, but the drive will also be resetted and fails to work after that.

Are the any known issues with NVIDIA 6150 based board relating to the IDE
controler, or is this just a defective board ?

I agree, to me it is the most annoying thing in the whole distro: to
have to wait half an hour for the meta-data to get downloaded.
Now it takes a little shorter, but still much too long.
Allmost as annoying as to have to wait for the 'zen-synchronisation'..

Over here it takes approx. 23-25 minutes, pretty fast i think...!

[opensuse-factory] [First try] Installing openSUSE 10.2 RC1 on a T60 Thinkpad

2006-11-25 Thread James PEARSON
Hello all,

It's the weekend, I have some space time and I want openSUSE 10.2 to
work on my T60 Thinkpad (Model 1952 W5R) so I installed openSUSE 10.2
RC1 on it.

Note 1: My T60 has a Intel Centrino Duo 1.83 cpu with 2 Go of RAM and a
Mobile Intel 945GM Express video chipset.

Note 2: openSUSE10.1 installs and works perfectly (even the Fn
buttons - which I don't use).

# The following is my report
I ran the installation using the 5 CDs plus the Addon-BiArch CD.

The IBM usbmouse was not recognized so the installation had to be
performed using the trackpad. This was a bit touchy as the trackpad was
overly sensitive and just moving it over a hypertest link would
sometimes select it by accident.

I tested all the CDs in the CD test window.

I ran a new Installation (over a working 10.1 setup)

I included the Addon-Bi Arch CD using the add-on "Products from Separate
media" option.

I had problems selecting the "Clock and Time Zone" using the track pad
The Thinkpad trackpad was very sensitive (overly) here - just moving
the cursor over a hyperlink text would activate it. I had a very hard
time selecting my time zone and moving to the NEXT button without
loosing my settings. I found it easier to do this particular operation
using the tab button (which is what I did in the end).

I did a "kde" installation (as per usual)
I added gcc, kernel, java... (I forgot to add smart!)
The rpm installation started at 14:46
The rpm installation started at 15:19
When the rpm installation finished, I was in the Package Installion
window (section Perform Installation), the "Synchronizing with
ZENworks" automatically came up at and started.

This started at 15:20
It was stilling happening at 15:44, so I hit the "abort" button -
more than once... (even tried Alt-R key for Abort) - I seemed stuck...

I finally hit TAB a few times and I noticed a window "Error Your
service was added successfully in YaST but could not be synchronized
with Zenworks. Command timed out after 800 milliseconds.

hit the OK button, another Error window: "Error Cannot write settings
to 'ZMD'

Managed to continue to the "Root Password Configuration" window

Under network mode, selected "User-controlled interfaces with Network
manager" Download of latest release notes failed

YaST2 had set up the wrong IP address
The setup configured an IP in the 169.x.x.x.range
I need to be in the 192.x.x.x range

Went back to the "Network Configuration "window and disabled Network
manager, I moved forward and ran the "Internet Connection Test"

Network connection tested ok
Under "Novell Customer Center Configuration" window, I selected the
"Configure Now" button, and got an error window "Error An error
occurred while connecting to the sever

Under Details, I saw "Cannot open the file /etc/zmd/deviceid: No such
file or directory"

I selected "Configure Later" in order to get on with the installation

In the next window (e.g the "Novell Customer Center Configuration"
window), I had the choice to add these "Additional Installations
Sources": inst-source (which was already selected) inst-source-extra
inst-source-debug

I left the default setting and hit OK - no problem so I hit the back
button, and the other two sources added (inst-source-extra and
inst-source-debug) Note: the d/l speed on my side is limited to 1024
kb/sec. The time was 16:04 at 16:14, YaST asked me to insert CD1.
at 16:22, the "Creating source window" and clock were still working
away. at 16:43 the "Creating source window" and clock were still
working away. so I hit the "Back" button. A minute later, I hit the
"Next" button. Idem for the "TAB" in order to check for error messages
in other windows. Nothing One minute later I got a new window "Cannot
access installation media CD1" Check that the server is accessible " I
selected show details "Curl error for:
http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-OSSfactor.."; "Error code:
Timeout reached Error message: Callback aborted"

I hit abort
I saw "Can't provide /suse/setup/descr/packages.cs from
http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source";

I selected abort
I selected abort abort again
I selected abort Don't try again
I got a "Probing source..." window followed by another "Creating
source.. " window I hit "NEXT" and got more
"http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-OSS-Facto"; windows.

Was I looping here??? I hit "NEXT", "BACK" and finally
"ctrl-alt-delete", I still had a
"http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-OSS-Facto"; window. I am
stuck. The time is now 16:55

I guess I am going to give up on this one and skip the "Creating extra
sources.. " next time.

While writing this I got this window again
a new window "Cannot access installation media CD1"
Check that the server is accessible "
I selected show details
"Curl error for:
http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-OSSfactor.."; "Error code:
Timeout reached Error message: Callback aborted"

I hit abort.
Abort again, Don't try again - and back we go again and I

[opensuse-factory] sorry, where are patterns?

2006-11-25 Thread jdd
I feel dumb, but I don't see any difference between the RC1
yast and any previous (pre 10.2) one...

the "pattern" menu is very small and mostly there is no tree
(text mode ncurse yast), so what? did I miss something?

thanks

remember we speak of _text_ minimal install, what does
mozilla do here?

problem is... I can't reliably help here. when you asked me
to report these gnome things, I had already begun to install
X (see what kind of problem is this (RC1) post), so I'm
unsure of what was exactly on the text install and what have
been added and not removed after

But here what I did just now:

* go to yast, list the gnome products in "search"
* for any installed one, hit the space bar until the
dependency popup come.

as a result, sax2 seems to be the main responsible. (with
xdg_menu and yast2-X11)

but of course sax2 is usefull if ever one wants to have X
installed. does it needs to be in default?

general ideas (not for 10.2):

all the problem is size.

what we need is a tool to know precisely what is the size of
a given install list (without having to do the install).

I couldn't find a way to save the "installation summary".
This was possible till 10.0

in summary, we should be able to make a test install, have a
size and discuss if the size gain is worth the problem. the
dependency problem makes it very difficult to know what is
the real impact of a small change.

Note that I have another bug pending (#223387) that is partly
responsible for excess dependencies among packages that use pkg-config
in their build system.

In short, pkg-config is configured to convert all private dependencies
into public ones. This has been added years ago as a workaround for a
pkg-config bug which is fixed now, so the workaround can be removed. No
other major distribution still does this.

It will be a hard job convincing the guys that this will not result in
non-prelinkable libraries and that Linux and glibc don't need all
deplibs to be linked in (seriously, they really don't need it), but I'll
try it anyway ;-)

Since most packages that use pkg-config happen to be GNOME packages, it
should hopefully reduce the dependency problems in the GNOME area a little.

Real-minimum means something different to everyone you're asking.

I'd like to encourage all of you to continue the pattern

Thats part of the default install on purpose - have all configuration

One of the enhancements planned for the future is to document
the "why?" of installed packages better. Pattern - if used as
functional building blocks - can help here as they relate
packages to functionalities.

> I rather have it not installed unless the it is really needed,

'Really needed' is probably just glibc and bash - for a minimal
chroot environment. It always depends what you want to do with
the system, and thats different for everyone.

This is a fake package that contains mostly empty directories and is 1.3
kB in size. Ignore it and do as if it would not contain the string
"gnome" in its name - it might vanish very soon.

> 2006-11-24 20:51:55 gnome-mime-data-2.4.2-41.noarch.rpm installed ok

This is needed by gnome-vfs2 only, I'll try to find out whether the
dependency is necessary. I think it is. For the rest: See MozillaFirefox.

> 2006-11-24 20:52:05 gnome-keyring-0.6.0-17.i586.rpm installed ok

Legitimately needed by many packages, so the question is whether its
consumers are legitimate. Some of them might be avoidable.

> 2006-11-24 20:52:54 gnome-icon-theme-2.16.0.1-11.noarch.rpm installed ok

Needed by several packages, there are certainly illegitimate
dependencies among them that have been added over the time and can be
removed now.

> 2006-11-24 20:55:26 libgnomecups-0.2.2-45.i586.rpm installed ok

Required by libgnomeprint and libgnomeprintui. Dependency might be
bogus, should be investigated. The real question here is whether the
consumers of libgnomeprint and libgnomeprintui are legitimate.

> 2006-11-24 20:59:41 gnome-vfs2-2.16.1-22.i586.rpm installed ok

Required by MozillaFirefox, the dependency is correct.

Possible solutions:

(1) Split the GNOME integration parts out into something like
MozillaFirefox-gnome
(2) Hide the dependency from rpm, possible via hacks, but ugly
(3) Remove MozillaFirefox from the default installation.

> 2006-11-24 20:59:49 libgnomecanvas-2.14.0-22.i586.rpm installed ok

Legitimately needed by mozilla-xulrunner181 which has been added to the
default installation.

> 2006-11-24 20:59:56 libgnomeprint-2.12.1-46.i586.rpm installed ok

Should be avoidable, needs more investigation.

> 2006-11-24 21:01:41 libgnome-2.16.0-25.i586.rpm installed ok

Needed by MozillaFirefox, see above.

> 2006-11-24 21:02:14 libgnomeui-2.16.1-17.i586.rpm installed ok

Might be avoidable.

> 2006-11-24 21:02:21 libgnomesu-1.0.0-65.i586.rpm installed ok

Probably pulled in by error-prone hand-written dependencies, there are
certainly avoidable ones among them.

> 2006-11-24 21:02:30 libgnomeprintui-2.12.1-46.i586.rpm installed ok

Might be avoidable, but I couldn't find wrong dependencies for now, so
it must be a superfluous package that pulls this in.

Hot candidates: librsvg, compiz

May I ask if you happen to use gdm as display manager? That would
explain a lot.

But thanks, while investigating this list I already found out that
anjuta has buggy-handwritten dependencies which is very error prone.
Won't solve your problem (unless you're using anjuta, which I doubt),
but is a starting point.

This is a general problem with many GNOME packages, all hand-written
dependencies should be reviewed because they are really old cruft and
things have changed.

[opensuse-factory] what kind of problem is this (RC1)

2006-11-25 Thread jdd
after the text mode install, I was in the way of installing
X (only basic, I had no room for more).

When I was asked to look at the exess gnome packages (see
elsewhere on this list), I went to the computer, it was
asking for the second cd.

I hit "cancel", go back to the yast software template menu,
unmark X and accept. I had a screen with no package to
remove and exit yast.

I now notice I have 1.2Gb occupied, and before I had only 1Gb.

so it look like the package installed from the first cd
where not removed

what did I do wrong?

easy:
/usr/share/doc

but:
/usr/share/doc> du -sh

so I don't know is this is worth the hassle to don't install
the doc (it's always possible to remove it afterward)

I'm not very goo at rpm. provides don't give me many things.

"A lot" is not enough, I need the exact package names in order to find
out where the dependency chain starts and if it is legitimate.

If the problem consists mainly of seeing the string "gnome" on the
display, case closed

Which documentation packages? Package names, please.

Note that I know that many packages have problematic and partly plain
wrong dependencies (which were added over the time as workarounds for
other problems and never removed), but the number of packages (3000
source RPMs) is _far_ too large to even start working on it without a
very specific example.

I will try to report, but I'm usure the system is still in

I think there must be an install log? where? (just in case I

[opensuse-factory] for 10.3 - strings too large to display

2006-11-25 Thread jdd

This was seen on 640x480 screen, text mode

I think this will not be for present one, but must be
adressed, probably by a library patch.

it's probably worst in french, but impact also the URL display.

I speak of the width of many message strings on a small
display, that are nearly un readable (too large/long)

on a static display, for example when options are asked for
and you can use tab to go from a button to a window, it's
possible to shift the text with arrow keys, but on all the
informative windows, this is not possible.

many french strings are unreadable, right part of URL are
unreadable.

I don't exactly know what could be the solution? wrapping to
the next line? enlarging the window (there is often room
unused, even on such a small screen), trimming the center
part of the string (...)?

this is so current it must be addressed at the library level...
