Looking for Mac Internet Broadcasting Softtware

2015-09-18 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi everyone. During the past year or so I’ve been broadcasting my classic hits
Internet radio station with Station Playlist Studio and Station Playlist
Creator. It’s a truly fine broadcasting package, but at present I’m exploring
options that will allow me to move closer to Mac and further away from windows.
With that in mind, I’m wondering if anyone knows of accessible Mac based
broadcasting software, capable of running an automated station. Of course, it
would need to create playlists, and basically do what the Station Playlist
package does.

I’m not necessarily in a huge rush to make this happen, but I would appreciate
any thoughts that Mac users might have.

Thanks very much for any ideas.

Audio Hijack 3

2015-03-05 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi there. My question is for Mac users who have tried Audio Hijack 3, the
recently updated recording software from Rogue Amoeba. I’m wondering if its
accessibility is equal to Audio Hijack Pro.

Thanks for any thoughts.

MP3 Gain with Windows 7 and 8?

2014-08-21 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi there. Just wondering if anyone knows of software that will batch normalize
numerous MP3 files. I thought of MP3 gain, but since I’m working in both
Windows 7 and Windows 8 I’m not sure that the program will still work reliably.
From what I’ve heard, MP3 Gain is no longer being developed.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Re: questions about Radionomy

2014-04-07 Thread Larry Naessens
Hey Mike. I looked into Radionomy several years ago. I’m calling on my memory
to describe my experience with them, so I could be recalling small details
inaccurately, but here’s how I remember my experience with them.

I found accessibility there to be a bit awkward, at least for me, but
manageable. Their tech support answered questions promptly and helpfully. As I
recall, at the time that I checked into it, they allowed free use of their
service for six months. If, during that time, they were able to sell
advertising on the station in question, then you could continue using the
service for free. If they could not sell advertising after the six month
period, you would need to pay to continue using the service.

I believe I am correct in saying that they now own Shoutcast, which I will
probably be using when I sign my own station on in a few weeks.

producing radio shows in the form of podcasts and then he posts them online

Hi there. As was kindly suggested earlier in this thread, I have taken a
look at Station Playlist and it looks like an amazing automation package, at
least according to the testimonials posted on their website. I didn't see a
lot of software description by the developers themselves, but maybe I was
 looking in the wrong place.

The information that I could find on Station Playlist lead to the following
concern. Since I will be recording a show and delivering it to subscribing
Internet stations in a yet to be determined format, how would station

Hi Tom. I would think that my show would be best offered as recorded, allowing
the Internet stations that make up my target market to run them when they wish.
There's also the possibility of something going wrong during a live show and
I'm not looking for that sort of adventure. :)

If you can learn what format is generally preferred by stations, that would be
a huge help. I would really appreciate it if you would ask the question.

I will look into Station Playlist. Do you know if it facilitates playing tracks
back to back directly from the computer? Or will I need another music source,
such as a CD player or whatever?

Thanks again for your very helpful reply.

Re: Question re. the Sirius XM App

2013-06-18 Thread Larry Naessens
The best I can say about the Sirius XM iPhone app is that it is kind of
accessible.
There are 5buttons, undefined by Voiceover which get you into different
categories such as on demand and favorites. I use it to play on demand
programming and with a little practice that is pretty manageable.

I understand that there are other apps that allow you to sign into your Sirius
XM account and listen, using those alternative apps. I plan to try that when I
get the chance.

If you are thinking of using the app to listen to your favorite channels live,
I would suggest that you add them to favorites and find them that way when you
wish to listen. The app does not identify each channel by name, at least not in
a manner that Voiceover can see. Instead, you will hear what song is playing on
each channel as you scroll through the list.

A lack of accessibility is unfortunately what I've seen for the most part, when
it comes to Sirius XM online. But the app is free and they allow you a trial
period on the service before committing any money. At least that is the case
with Sirius and XM here in Canada. So I would give the app a try and see what
you can do with it.

For those using Macs, I have an online XM account and listen to stations using
a program called Pulsar. It's accessible, at least all aspects of the program

url handy, but Google is your friend. :-)

When I used windows a whole lot more than I do now, I used Replay AV for XM. I
think that the name of the program might have changed, but I believe it still
supports sattelite programming. Something to consider anyhow.

 Hi all.

I agree that it's crummy for the site not to work for those of us who use
screen readers. Trouble is XM/Sirius thinks they're improving things when
they change things. I've used the app on my iPhone to access content, but I
haven't done so for a couple months.

One thing I wish that a manufacturer for the XM/Sirius receivers would do is
to bring back the PCR. For those of you not familiar with this little gem
it's a receiver that hooks up to a USB port on your PC. You'd then load
software that controls the radio. The really nice thing about the PCR is
you could read the station name, channel number and title and artist of
songs. Sadly the ahem, wonderful RIAA complained that people would
illegally get music using this unit, and it was pulled off the market. I
was lucky and found one in stock about five years ago.

I appologise if this is not the list to ask this question.
Perhaps you can direct me where to post.

I often listen to a TV or live show and wish I could record it, for whatever
interesting bits or info it contains.
Do you know of any program to record this kind of show?
 Thanks very much.

 Hatch.

Re: audio on the mac

2011-01-26 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi Jorge. Actually there is a version of Audacity for the Mac and it works
quite well. I would also recommend that you consider Amadeus Pro. I don't have
the url right off hand, but Google is your friend. I believe it costs around
$30 and it might just meet your needs. I think you can try it before you buy it
as well.

Good luck with the Mac. I switched to the Mac a year and a half ago and I've
never regretted it.

RSS App for iPad

Hi there. I was just wondering if anyone here might know of an accessible iPad

the way, I don't mind paying for an app that works. I have no problem with

Re: Apple TV

2010-12-01 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi. Actually Apple TV and Cable TV are separate entities. Apple TV's remote
lets the user scroll through all of Apple TV's programming. Apple TV plays
programming from your computer and programs purchased from iTunes. For
instance, you can buy many TV series, either by the episode or you can purchase
an entire season. If you purchase an entire season, you receive episodes after
their broadcast by the network that airs them.

The only way that Apple TV could be considered as a replacement for Cable is
that you can buy only the specific programming that interests you, rather than
paying for many stations that you may never watch. That's what we do, as we're
not a big TV family.

I believe it also streams anything you can playing iTunes, which would
include audio as well as video. It has an HDMI and an optical audio output,
so you can also connect more than just your TV. Finally, it runs VoiceOver,
so you can control what you want to listen to from the Apple TV box and not
 just your PC.

Hi Chris. Apple TV is a device which connects to your TV. With its use, one can
buy or rent movies and TV shows from iTunes. You can also link up with a
computer running iTunes and use Apple TV to play your iTunes library along with
iTunes radio through your home theatre system. If you were to purchase an
application called Air Foil, available for either Windows or Mac computers, you
could stream Internet radio or pretty much anything you want through Apple TV.

That being said, if it includes Voiceover, I'm not aware of it, though I don't
own the latest and greatest model. If anyone knows of Voiceover's use on Apple
TV, I would be extremely interested. Right now, my ability to run it on my own

in a heartbeat.

Re: Question for Audacity users

2010-10-20 Thread Larry Naessens
Many thanks David. Your directions are clear and easily followed. I appreciate
you taking the time to offer them.

 I'm
not sure about system access, and I don't think it's as accessible using
 voiceover at the moment.

Regarding applying an effect to a single track. Since posting my reply, I've
realiized that there's something else that might be the problem. In audacity,
 to
select audio, you have to select one or more tracks, and also a time range.
However, there's an option, select all audio in project if none selected, and
 by
default this is on. So if you've selected a single track, but no time range,
then when you apply an effect it will automatically select all tracks and a
 time
range which covers all the audio, and then apply the effect to everything.
 The
best thing to do is to disable this option. In the preferences dialog, it's
under the tracks category (see the selecting audio section of the jaws guide
 for
 more details about this option).

To select the audio in a single track, prior to applying an effect:
 1. Set the track to be selected, and the others unselected.
 2. To select a time range with covers the audio in the selected track, press
 the
letter j to move the cursor to the start of audio in the selected track, and
then shift+k to select a time range up until the end of the audio in the
selected track. (pressing k on its own moves the cursor to the end of the
 audio
in the selected track or tracks). See the moving the cursor and selecting
 audio
sections of the jaws guide for more details.

 David.

Question for Audacity users

2010-10-19 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi. My problem occurs when I want to apply effects to one specific track from
those that I have opened and imported. It happens whether using the Mac or
windows version of Audacity.

According to an Audacity demo that I found on BlindCoolTech, my impression is
that if you wish to select one specific track, you make sure that it is in
focus and press enter on it. However, when I do that, all tracks are selected,
effectively blocking me from working with one of the tracks only.

Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong? It's not an accessibility issue,
because the guy doing the demo was blind and using a Mac. So it's me and I'd
like to find out what I'm doing wrong.

If a track is the focus, then pressing enter toggles whether that track is

 selected.
So if if you want only one track to be selected, you need to go through the

 selected time range) to unselected.

Before You Buy an iPod Touch

2010-08-08 Thread Larry Naessens
Before you, as a blind audio enthusiast, purchase an iPod Touch, expecting to
be able to use it with Voiceover, in order to listen to online radio and so
much more, you might want to keep my experience in mind.

Not long ago, my wife bought me an iPod touch for my birthday. Understandably
unaware that the 8 gig version of the Touch was never updated to Version 3,
she bought one. After all, on Apple's Canadian website, it was listed only as
current. Further, nothing on the box listed the item as version 2, a version
which many of us know to be unaccessible.

Since yesterday was Saturday, I spoke to Apple Support concerning my issue, as
Customer Service was closed. When I spoke to the agent who took my call, I was
told that information concerning the fact that the 8 gig touch had not been
updated to version three was all over the website. I would like to ask him
where such info is listed on the Canadian site, but instead I'll simply take my
case to Customer Service on Monday.

My advice to those who are interested in purchasing the touch? If you need
accessibility, purchase only version 3 of the Touch which comes in the 32 and
64 gig models. Anything less will not talk to you. And, so far anyway, it has
been my experience that Apple sees such problems as Buyer Beware. Hopefully
I'll be pleasantly surprised to learn that my problem is limited to one
isolated agent. Meanwhile, when buying a touch, make sure to get the right one.

Re: Before You Buy an iPod Touch

2010-08-08 Thread Larry Naessens
When checking Apple's accessibility section on their Canadian site, we weren't
able to locate any information stating that the 8 gig model was neither
Generation 3 nor usable with a screen reader. Certainly there is the
possibility that we missed it when checking the Canadian site and if you would
like to share the link, we would be happy to take a look.

My main reason for posting what I did was to try and help others to keep from
making the same mistake as we did. You, without a doubt are this group's Apple
expert, with information that many listers including myself have found to be
extremely valuable. I hope you'll keep your Mac advise coming.

Yes, I'm just hoping that Customer Service will let me exchange my Touch for

Note that when I checked the specifications pages for the different models
of the iPod touch, I didn't see that they specifically noted whether the
model supported VoiceOver or not. The comparison table mentioned voiceOver
for the Nano and the Shuffle, but not the iPod Touch.

As others have mentioned, I doubt they'll support VoiceOver on your model

 it was a gift.

Your warning about doing your homework before you purchase something is duly

Suggestion for VST Plugin?

2010-08-08 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi. I'm using Amadeus Pro, which is a Mac audio editor. It is a fantastic
program and a bargain at its price. My only concern is with the reverb choices
offered with the program. What I'm looking for is the sort of light reverb that
you might hear in a radio spot. But with what is offered within the program, I
can't seem to find that. Of course, I could be doing something wrong.

But in the meantime, does anyone know of VST plugins that offer a wide range of
broadcast quality reverb choices?

Thanks for all thoughts on the subject.

Re: FM Transmitters

2010-08-02 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi Dean. In my experience, most FM transmitters do transmit in stereo.
they differ dramatically both in their audio quality and in the distance that
they are able to transmit. Many are designed to transmit sound from iPods and
MP3 players to car audio systems and therefore only need to transmit a few
feet. Others are designed for home use and can transmit quite a bit further.

As with anything else, check it out before you buy it.

Re: Live 365, new Website less accessible?

2010-07-29 Thread Larry Naessens
Thanks John. I encourage everyone who used to enjoy one of the thousands of
stations on Live 365, but can no longer access the streams to write to Live 365
support and let them know how you feel about being locked out.

Unless they solve the accessibility problem, I will most likely and regrettably
be looking into another service for the streaming of my own station.
Unfortunately, cost has to be considered as a factor, but if a move is
necessary, I'm hoping to learn that Live 365 is not the only service out there
that will serve as a legal broadcasting avenue at a comparable price.

I own a station and have a VIP membership at Live 365. So I am concerned
with what I see as accessibility issues arising from the recent roll out
of the the new Live 365 website. As a Mac user, I'm wondering if,
especially windows users, are noticing something similar to what I'm
 seeing.

Most important, the play button formerly in place to launch individual
station streams has been removed, to be replaced by an image which is not
spoken by Voiceover. This applies to the specific stream being promoted
on any given Live 365 station page. So, for instance,if someone using
Voiceover surfs to my page, they can't access my station's stream. Is it
the same with a windows screen reader?

Further, some of the other links on individual station pages don't seem to
work. For one thing, the link to my presets page, though spoken by
Voiceover, does not work when the proper keyboard command is executed.

I'm not going to promote my station here, as this is not the proper venue
for it. But I am concerned that blind listeners may be experiencing
problems when trying to listen to a Live 365 stream, such as mine. The
website makeover took place in the last couple of days. So, since the new
site was introduced, has anybody besides me noticed a problem in accessing
individual streams and links while using a screen reader?

 Thanks for any thoughts.

Radio Shift Question for Mac Users

2010-04-11 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi there. This is a question for any Mac users out there who are also using
Radio shift. This is a program that allows you to listen to and pause live
radio and much more, on a Mac. You can also browse and search the extensive
database which comes with the program.

For the most part, this program is highly accessible. My biggest problem,
one which can for the most part be worked around, is that I'm unable to get
into the menus, using the traditional Mac commands. Also, I've unable to
figure out how to preset stations within the program. If anyone is using the
program and has figured out either or both of these issues, I'd appreciate
hearing about it.

Re: Radio Shift Question for Mac Users

2010-04-11 Thread Larry Naessens
Yep, that's what I was expecting all right. In fact, when I downloaded the
program, that]s exactly what I pressed, confident that I could then check
out the menus for any keyboard shortcuts. But on my machine, which does show
menus after pressing the usual keys, Radio shift just gives me a system
sound that tells me I have pressed keys which won't take me anywhere. Guess
for the time being I'll have to just work around the lack of menus. If you
think of anything else I might try, I'd be grateful if you pass along any
thoughts.

Hi Dane. Well let's eliminate the easiest possible solution here. If the
file is playing, but you can't hear it, might your WMP volume be turned

CD Ripping Software?

2009-05-14 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi. There was a time when I would have chosen Easy CD DA Extractor for
ripping Cds. But I'm not getting anywhere with version 11 much less version
12, and I haven't received a response when seeking advice from the program's
developer. I think now that I would prefer to move on to another program.
With that in mind, what would you recommend for a ripper that yields good
results while getting along with a screen reader. I have Window-eyes and
System Access on board.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi. Actually 2 things are happening here. What I'm doing is to right click
on the drive where my CD is waiting to be ripped. Easy CD DA Extractor comes
up, but it doesn't show my tracks. In fact, it shows nothing except for all
empty fields. I can find nothing to indicate which drive has focus for the
program and trying each drive yields the same results. Just out of curiosity
I pressed F8 to begin the rip, but nothing happens. No error shows
whatsoever. The program appears to be waiting for me to do something, but I
can't see what that might be. Of course it's possible, even likely that I'm
missing something here, which is why I wrote to the developer. But as I
said, he has not responded.

ok, this is what you need to do.
open up easy cd da extracter.
now tab to your drive combo box.
and choose the drive you want to use
now do alt f and enter on retrieve.
this will retrieve the cd titles. for the cd you want to rip.
now if you have choosen your file format you can now do f 8 to start
ripping the cd.
let me know if this works for you.

Sound Forge 8 Question

2009-05-04 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi. I'm editing audio for someone who prefers that the task be completed in
Sound Forge. I generally use GoldWave, so I'm trying to get a handle on how
things are done in Sound Forge. For one thing, in Goldwave, I can listen to a
file in fast forward at any speed I designate by pressing F6. If I understand
Sound Forge correctly I should be able to listen to a file in Fast forward mode
by pressing the letter F. But it isn't working for me. I stongly suspect that
operator error is at fault here, so can somebody please tell me how I can
listen to a file in fast forward mode in Sound Forge? I don't want to change
the file's speed. I just want to listen to it at a higher rate of speed.

Thanks in advance.

Also looking for Realtek HD Audio Card help

When I record something and play it back, I can hear that something was

something that I've been able to do with my older XP system with no
problems. Any thoughts on what I might need to check? Or maybe uncheck? Or
maybe something else etirely? Suggestions will be more than welcomed here.

Wi fi Radio, anybody using one?

2009-01-17 Thread Larry Naessens
I'm considering the potential advantages of wi fi radio and with my
consideration comes the question of to what degree I could actually access
the features available on such a unit. Is anyone out there using one of
these radios? If so, how does one locate... tune in if you will, a given
station without using a computer? Further, can you set presets on the radio
by accessing the feature through your computer from your network? If so, can
you make this happen with a screen reader? Finally, if any specific wi fi
radios are out there that anyone has had any luck in using with no sight,
what make and model are they?

If a detailed discussion of the wi fi radio travels beyond the scope of this
list, feel free to email me off list.

Thanks for any thoughts that anyone might have. I'm just beginning to look

http://www.applian.com

- fixed display of multiple File conversion job will start as a
background process messages when converting multiple files.

- Improved registration process for upgrades.

I've tested Replay AV 8.52 and it works very well with JAWS 10. This
release costs $9.95 because you get the vastly improved and powerful
Replay Converter 3.20 included. If you have questions on how to use Replay
Converter please ask the questions on the BlindReplay mailing list or
PC-Audio list. I am here to help.

My experience and comments here only.
Backup the schedule8.dat file to another location on your hard drive. This
file contains all your stations/shows/podcasts recording schedules.

I uninstalled via Control Panel's add or remove the following:
Replay AV 8, Replay Converter, YouSendIt Express, WinPCap.

Reboot your computer. Shut down your computer for 2 minutes.

Download Replay AV 8.52 at

http://www.applian.com

Best to buy the upgrade via the website method. $9.95. This way you will
have the product key and copied with ctrl+c so you can paste it in with
ctrl+v.

When you have completely installed Replay AV 8.52 and run the program it
will tell you it is a demo version.

You will get a dialog box and here you will have the opportunity to enter
the product key that you purchased and copied with ctrl+c to paste it in
and choose the submit button.

I have not seen any errors or bugs but there is no way one person can test
every file but the product does work very well.

Enjoy!

Sure, you can do it that way. I do it all the time with multiple music

Subject: Can one rip to a flash drive

I've been trying to send a friend some music on a flash drive. She only
wants it in .wav. I know it would be so much easier in .mp3, but she's
a sound snob!

How is the best way to get .wav files on to a flash drive? I tried
ripping them with Windows Media Player 9 and the current beta of CDEX,
but nothing shows up even though I've specified the correct drive.

What am I doing wrong, if anything? Can I simply copy and paste the
files from my hard drive to the flash drive?

Thanks for any help.

Clifford

Best way I can think of is buy one of those cables that have two RCA
jacks

on one end and 1 at the other. Plug the end with 1 jack into a laptop,
with
a thumb drive in it, and plug the other two into a stario or tv equipt
with
2 stario jacks.

Is there a device that will let you plug in a thumb drive and act like
a CD player, reading the songs, and sending them through RCA to a
stario receiver? I would apppreciate any advice on a product that
would do this?

Re: fm transmitters revisited

2008-10-21 Thread Larry Naessens
It is an excellent unit in that it is really a pretty simple trouble free
setup. Also, it seems to me that they offer antenna suggestions which can
give you greater distance, though if the legal limit for transmitting in the
States is 150 feet, then transmitting further could inspire another set of
nasty problems that nobody wants. I haven't lived in the States for a while
now so quite honestly I forgot about the 150 feet transmitting limitation.

For some, frequency limitation might be a problem, especially in an urban
area. But I've been very satisfied

Larry with my whole house transmitter.

Doc

Note that the advertised limit on the WholeHouse is 150 ft; you were
looking for twice that.
Also, it's frequency limitations may or may not be an issue dependent on
where you are.
Otherwise, this sounds like an excellent unit which I myself may consider
buying.

Re: fm transmitters revisited

2008-10-21 Thread Larry Naessens
On the Whole House Transmitter, you change the frequency by sliding small
pins located at the top of the unit. Moving the pins in different
combinations will cause the unit to transmit on different frequencies. I
think the combinations are outlined in the documentation that ships with the
transmitter, but you can also simply experiment with various combinations.

Don, that would depend on the strength of the signal that you are trying
to

overide. My transmitter is set at 106.7, with the nearest strong signal
being at 107.1. There is a weak signal at 106.5, but I don't think it
impacts the transmitter in any way.

The transmitter does cover my entire house and yard, but if you live in an
urban area, you might find some coverage reduction. Unfortunately, due to
my

lack of experience outside my own area, I can't speak with authority.

A suggestion though... I would email the company with your question. I
have

found them to be quite responsive. Also, they may have a provision for
returns if you can't find a workable frequency. Again, I would ask in
advance and see what they have to say.Larry

Re: fm transmitters revisited

2008-10-21 Thread Larry Naessens
106.7 refers to one of the frequencies that can be chosen to transmit your
audio. The transmitter transmits on a limited frequency range. If I'm not
mistaken, the Whole House transmitter transmits between 106.7 and 107.7. If
no frequencies in that range are available in your area, you might want to
look for one with a greater range. Some allow you to transmit anywhere on
the FM band.

I think it would depend on the point where you are updating from, though
that's just my take on it. For instance, as I understand it, if you're
updating say from version 7.x, there may be a charge. My update was from
8.4. The important thing here is that I've never paid more than $10 for any
upgrade. Very reasonable!

Marcia, if you have XM, they broadcast the games with Pat and Ron describing
the action on the home games. If you have a station in your area that is an
ESPN affiliate most of them cover the playoffs. I'm not sure if ESPN.com
streams the games, but it's worth a look.

Re: New podcast concerning the new talking iPod Nano.

2008-09-21 Thread Larry Naessens
Bruce, I agree completely. I just bought a stream a couple of weeks ago and
I love it. I use it for books and music and wouldn't be without it. When not
using it with headphones I'm plugging it into a set of speakers where it
sounds great too. It's a great way to listen to Audible books, which i use a
lot.The only thing that I didn't buy as part of the package was their Sd
card. I wanted 16 gigs and got a much better card price with lots more size
at Tiger Direct.

Is it possible that you tried the Stream's MP3 capabilities before they
added independent bass and treble control for music? The Stream was
designed first and foremost as a book reader, and its music capabilities
are kind of a work in progress. You won't find a better player anywhere
for Audible content, there are the NLS books (applicable for Americans
only), its DAISY capabilities are second to none, and for something so
small, the voice recorder feature is absolutely fantastic. It's not
everyone's answer, of course, people have different needs depending on
geography, lifestyle, and financial considerations, but it is one answer
that has worked and does work for many.

The problem I have with these devices is the same old 1 and that comes
down to how much money you have.

If you can't afford an Ipod Nano (and I accept that perhaps you can't)
smile, then there are some other great alternatives out there and I
mention this just to show that I'm not bias towards Apple Ipods in any
way but what I do have a bias against are products which are so
expensive in order that they be accessible, in other words products
exclusively designed for the blind but that's another topic for
 another day smile.

First, take a look at the Creative Zenstone line of players and (even
better than that I'm told) take a look at some of the Sandisk players.

Now if you want an Ipod that's perfectly accessible then perhaps you
can take a look at one of the Shuffles, if you can use a CD player
then you can certainly have a good shuffle.

I'm not Jonathan, though I know he'll be able to offer you some great
advice too. I can't recommend highly enough the Victor Reader
 Stream. It
may be overkill for what you want, but it is small, easy to use, 100%
accessible, and works very well with music, boks, podcasts, and the
like. You can hook your thumb drive right into it if you want to,
thoughthe best way to use it is with n SD card. Mine is 16GB. That's
 just one of many possibilities.

One of the nice things about Gold Wave is that, when you split a file into
smaller ones for the purposes of CD tracks, you can tell the program to
place the split so that the slight click won't happen. The slight click has
nothing to do with the sound card, it has to do with the number of samples
in a track.

can make sure it doesn't happen due to a DC issue with your sound

I then fired up Nero 6 to create the audio cd.

Here was my goal first of all.
You need this to understand the problem.

I wanted an audio cd that played every track automaticly with no

I checked the no gaps between tracks or however Nero says it on the

 That didn't work.

I then created another cd where I checked the same box but then went

Subject: Can't seem to get XM Radio Online to play in Firefox 3

 Hi folks

The subject line pretty much says it. I've atempted to log into my
 account at
http://listen.xmradio.com, which I can do just fine. However, when I
launch the player and by either manually typing in a channel number
in the edit box, or arrow down the page and just pressing enter on
the channel number, I don't hear any audio. I know that XM Radio
Online uses Windows Media as it's format for the stream, so I
downloaded and installed The Windows Media plugin for Firefox 3, and
I made sure it was enabled under tools/add-ons.
It is, yet I still don't hear any audio. I do just fine in Internet
explorer 7, but not Firefox 3. Any thoughts?
 BTW this doesn't seem to matter what screen-reader I use, I didn't
think that was a factor but that's one of the common questions people
always ask. So I've tried this using JAWS 9.0.2169, Window-eyes 7.0
beta 2, and System Access. Again, any thoughts, suggestions or
 ideas would be great!

 Thanks.

Re: Easy CD-DA Extractor Version 11.9.9 is now Available

2008-08-18 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi there Lauren. Easy CD-DA Extractor is a shareware program. You can use it
to burn Cds and to rip CDS to your computer in various formats. It offers a
trial period, allowing you to work with it and decide whether you like it
enough to buy it.

One cool aspect is that you can right click on a folder, arrow down to the
choice that asks if you want to burn the folder to CD using Easy CD-DA
Extractor, press enter, wait for the tracks to load, then press F8 to burn
the folder to disk. That's about as easy as it can get.

I think it's around $40. The site claims that upgrades are free, but if your
key doesn't work you apparently have to by a new key. It only costs 8
dollars and something, but one cannot define that as free. I wrote to the
developer using an old address that I had for him, but the email bounced. I
tried using their tech support form, but the form could not be submitted
without either my key (which was rejected) or the email address used to
purchase the product. My email address was also rejected, despite the fact
that it has never changed. Maybe it's just time to move on.

I have red on this list that the developer is a decent sort, so

can
offer a suggestion for contacting them in order to resolve my problem.
Paying the $8 is no big deal, but I shouldn't have to pay for a key
that
I
have not in fact lost.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Zen Stone Plus Question

2008-07-20 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi everyone. I'm interested in the zen stone Plus because it offers 4 gig
models as opposed to the 1 or 2 gig models offered by the Zen Stone
standard player.

However, it seems to me that I have read that the zen stone plus has
accessibility limitations. Could someone please let me know what is not
accessible in the plus player? Is it just the radio aspect?

Thanks for any info.

Easy CD-DA Extractor Upgrade Problem

2008-07-15 Thread Larry Naessens

Hi Everyone. I just downloaded the latest version of easy CD-DA extractor.
After installing it, I attempted to register it using my key from version
10. I copied both the key and the email address directly from the email sent
to me by the developer at the time of purchase. Upon entering and
re-entering the key, I was repeatedly told that it was invalid. When I
attempted to use the company support form to contact the developer and
explain my problem, my submission was blocked, again due to the claim that
my key is invalid. Finally, I logged in at the reg page using my email

Re: Winamp Version 5.54 Build 2124 Beta is now Available

2008-07-04 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi, among the improvements found in the latest version of winamp, kindly
offered by Steve, I read the following.
 * New: [Online Services] AOL Radio featuring CBS Radio (requires in_flv)

That leads me to a couple of questions.

1. From within Winamp, how do I go about accessing the AOL stations?
2. What is meant by (requires in_flv)
3. if in_flv) is a creature that I'm not likely to have on board, where can
I find it and do I require a hunting permit to go after it? ?

Thanks as always for the anticipated assist.

The first thing you need to do is go to their web site and register. Once
you do that you can then start the player up and you'll hear that tick
 tock
but it should only last for a few seconds and then a slight pause and the
speech should come on. It is an interesting player in the fact that you
 can
listen to lots of streams and podcasts as well as books. You also can
download their games and play them. They only have a couple of games. The
player is self voicing but I leave window-eyes running and it works fine
here. I don't claim advantages over winamp but they have done a good job
 as
far as grouping lots of streams in to sections.

Ok, I'm feeling incredibly thick here. When I ran the player
originally, I didn't have any kind of a screenreader loaded, because
I was told that the player was self-voicing. Looks like you have to
have something like JAWS or Window-eyes running at first? As I said
in my first message, I heard a tick, tock, tick, tock sound coming

 *is still confused, someone help?
I feel as if I'm missing something incredibly obvious. But you know
how that is, it's probably something so obvious I never thought of

Subject: Trying to utilize CD Architect 5.2, in Soundforge 9.0E

 Dear Listers,

I have learned the rudimentary steps, to create regions, in Soundforge
 6.0.
Now, I want to be able to create a CD, say from a live recording, with
tracks, that can be used, on a CD player, that has a numerical keypad, to
access tracks. I am having difficulty, at present, accessing the Sony
knowledge base, because of some internet connection problems, that I am
having, in that I cannot get to the links that the tech support team gave
 me.

That having been said, since the CD Architect 5.2 manual, that I have, is
very confusing, what is a simple explanation of how to do the steps,
necessary, to make this happen? Soundforge 9.0 sat on my bookshelf, for
over a year, while I did other things; now I am going through the hair
pulling that arises, from trying to make this a reality! Nero or Goldwave
would be the way to go, but I haven't invested in either of those
 programs,
 as of yet!

 Help!

Re: Total Recorder 7 PE

2008-06-22 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi there. I encountered the same problems with earlier versions of Total
Recorder. My solution was to stop installing the extra driver. According to
TR this limits functionality to a degree, though it has never stopped me
from doing what I wished with the program. Maybe someone who uses the
program to a greater degree than I do can clarify the limitations that come
into play when opting to skip installation of the drivers.

Subject: Total Recorder 7 PE

 Hello List!

Today, I was notified that my version of Total Recorder (6.1) was outdated
and I should upgrade. Well, I have not been able to get JAWS or Skype to
work while the new version of TR7 is loaded. For example, once you shut
JAWS down or reboot the system while TR7 is installed, no sound is
available with JAWS. Exactly, the sound is there, but it is totally
turned down. I would set and reset the volume control, but each time I
shut Jaws down or reboot the system, it would be back down again. I
haven't foundout how to keep the volume control from being turned down by
 TR7.

Well, I finally uninstalled TR7 and things went back to their old ways.

For the first time as far as I know, during the installation, TR7 asks you
to install two drivers (yes or no). When those files were not installed
with TR7, things worked with JAWs. Can someone tell me what is going on.
I may have to go back to TR61p, as it worked perfectly.

Sirius Online Question

2008-06-12 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi all. After signing up for Sirius yesterday, I learned that to listen
online I had to press a button and listen for a series of numbers, which I
then had to copy. Ok, inconvenient, but workable. However, today when
pressing the button to make the numbers speak, I hear nothing, even after an
extended wait. This is the case for three different computers.

I phoned Sirius, only to be told that there was no way that the problem
could be their fault. They claim it must be a windows issue and would not
discuss it further. When I asked the tech to at least try the button to
ensure that it worked for him, he said he couldn't do that because he had no
speakers on his computer.

So my question. Does anyone use sirius online? If so, do you have a problem
getting the number sequence to speak?

Thanks for any and all info.

I think Mike has offered a rational approach here. A suggestion has been

Re: Free-For-All Friday

I think Mike has offered a rational approach here. A suggestion has been
offered
and trying it once seems reasonable enough. Like Mike, I really have no
interest in the topic, but I recognize that others may.

It seems to me that unsubscribing from the list over this issue might be
just a tad extreme, premature at the very least. But if that is what works
for you, it's your right. Personally though, the one thing that might
convince me to
unsubscribe is if I have to read one more threat to um... unsubscribe.
*grin*

Subject: Re: Free-For-All Friday

Let me make another suggestion after reflecting on Bruce's and Jonathan's
 comments.
First, let me say I have about as much interest in reading about personal
broadcasts as taking a vacation into the eye of a category 5 hurricane.
i could care less as I don't have an interest in homebrew internet radio
as there is already plenty of mainstream streams out there.
Having said this, and as Friday the 13th is a rather rare occasion, let's
try this on Friday and see just what happens.
After Friday, Tom can sit back and evaluate the results -- how many posts,
how many negative ones posted publicly and privately, how many thank yous
both ways, and all the rest.
And see if it has a positive or negative impact on postings down the road.
Maybe twice a month is too much, but maybe a few times a year (such as on
Fridays the 13th might make sense.
While this kind of posting has no interest to me, there are people out
there that do value this kind of stuff.
Bruce and Jonathan are right that there are other lists for this kind of
thing; but, on the other hand, not everyone either knows about those lists
or would care to be bombarded by the incessant repeats week after week of
 the same thing.
These shows, whatever we think of them, are a part of the world of pc
audio and show casing them for a day or so will hurt no one especially if
we can code the subject lines.
