Re: Forwarding and Rewinding in Real Player 11
Ray Ok. I stumbled upon the answer. The forward command is alt+right bracket and the rewind is alt + left bracket. Left and right bracket, incidentally are just to the right of the letter p which is just below the numbers row. I don't have the fast forward and fast rewind commands yet. Also, remember the seek to function (ctrl + e) which allows for jumping to a specific time in a file. Where is God in the midst of hard times? Playing Purchased MP3's in Real Player after downloading songs through ITunes
Hello List! I purchased several CD's from Amazon, which were downloaded throughtheir Amazon Downloads Manager that puts the songs in ITunes and/or Windows Media Player; however, after I went to the Amazonmp3 folder in MY Music, the MP3 files won't play--being choppy and skippy and then stopping altogether, which brings a message from Real Player and Windows that the Real Player program had to stop and close. I tried the files on my other pC's and the same. I did, however, burn the songs to a CD and they play like they do in ITunes, perfectly. I tried to re-rip them back onto the system via Easy CD-DA Extractor, but got the same situation with the poor play. First of all, I was under the impression that MP3's will play in any system; I heard something about Apple and ITunes having certain rights for Apple downloaded music; I bought this music from Amazon.com and use a PC; why should Itunes have any rights to them. Does Amazon use ITunes Store. I plan to use Amazon for some more music; that is, if I can then play them on any machine, since they belong to me; if I have trouble with Amazon's downloads, what can I do? I can always change sources for music. Now, could the problem be with Real Player or Winamp, as recently, I have been getting weird shut downs and have had to uninstall and reinstall both programs. Are there any issues with these programs and could they be causing the ITunes stuff not playing in Real Player or Winamp problems I am now experiencing? Answers please! Setting Default Players (Windows Media Player; Winamp; or Real Player) in Vista
Hello List! I have a Toshiba notebook running Vista. I want to have Winamp and Real Player on my system along with Windows Media Player. Now, I did this on my HP Desktop running vista and it works, but I can for the world get it to work on my Toshiba. I want Real Player to be my default player. I have taken the requir3ed options and set Real Player as the option, but Media Player still runs the show and plays everything. What do I need to do to get things set the way I want them? Also, whenever I go to my web site and click on a link, which has a M3U file to be played, Windows Vista asks me to download the file. It won't play it on the spot. I think the same thing would happen with any type of files. How do you set default player to come on in Vista. I have two notebooks to set up and another vista desktop. thanks for your help. Re: Real Player Basics
Hi Dana, Here are the instructions you requested. Again, thanks to Bob Batchelor for directing me to them. I've copied them from this RP webpage: http://home.real.com/product/help/rp10v8_ts/en/Screen_Reader_Information.htm Note, as you will see below, that RP indicates sighted assistance may be needed, but I didn't find that to be the case, not in this instance. However, RP also indicates that a warning message will appear requiring confirmation of the changes, but that didn't happen for me. There's other information about RP on this page that is alternately useful and dismissive. Here goes with the message center section: The Message Center delivers periodic messages of interest to the user. You may customize categories of messages as desired. Currently the Messaging system is not very screen-reader accessible and most screen-reader users will want to disable the "Check for new messages" feature to prevent the pop-ups from interrupting work flow. Here are the steps to do so (may require sighted assistance): List of 7 items 1. Click View > Message Center in the RealPlayer menu bar to open the Message Center. 2. Click the Options menu on the Message Center. 3. Choose Preferences... to open the Message Center Preferences dialog. 4. Clear Check for new messages. 5. Click OK. 6. A warning message will appear. Click Yes. 7. Close Message Center. list end Rarely, a software update message may appear if an updated version of RealPlayer is made available, but no other messages should appear. - Original Message - From: "Dana S. Leslie" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Would you send along the instructions on how to close the message center, since, as I said, I've forgotten how I did it -- I might need to do it again, someday, if it ever comes unstuck. Regarding "normal view," I can't get JAWS to indicate whether or not it's checked. I click on it in the view menu and the menu closes. I go back to find it isn't checked. Is it another aspect of RP that requires sighted assistance? Again, many thanks. - Original Message - From: "Dana S. Leslie" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Adrian, I recommend disabling the Realplayer Message Center. Unfortunately, I disabled mine so long ago, I don't remember how I did it. But, in the Preferences tree view, scroll down to Message center, and see what you can find about disabling it. In the main player window, in the View menu pull-down, make sure Normal mode is checked, and everything else is unchecked. I recommend using RP for ONLY those media types that will not play in WMP or Winamp. So, under the Media Types section of preferences, make sure that only Real Media types are checked. But, unfortunately, since the media types selection list is largely inaccessible, you will either need sighted assistance for this, or you will have to go through the complicated procedure that Gene asner has outlined elsewhere. (Let me know if you need me to go through this for you.) Finally, I don't recommend using RP's My Library. Any Real Media on your hard drive, you can browse to, right click on, and, from there, choose Play, burn, or whatever you wish. As for Real Media streams, the Favorites menuing system within RP, is quite accessible, and I recommend using it in preference to any of the stream selection methods built into RP. Indeed, you can copy RP favorites from where they are stored on your hard drive, to some more convenient folder, and use them whenever you want to listen to an RM stream, rather than starting RP, clicking on Favorites, etc. If you just click on the Favorites shortcut, wherever you have moved it to, it will automatically start RP with the relevant stream playing. Then, you only need ctrl-P and ctrl-S, to pause or stop the stream, respectively. Well, that ought to be enough to get you started. Let me know if you have any specific problems. Blessed Be, Dana D. Hi, gang! Are we all nuts trying to mess with this REal Player business? Smile. I just want to thank Dana and the few other good souls who are patiently anwering our questions about this lee-than-accessible software. Dana, Although I'm not the one who made the original query, thanks for this suggestion. It makes a big difference. You indicate you might have other suggestions for using RP. If it isn't too much trouble, I'd like to know what they are. I'm not sure what to make of the remaining RP preference choices. - Original Message - From: Dana S. Leslie To: PC audio discussion list. Thanks. Found it. After picking it, RP seemed to lock up to where I couldn't close it and had to listen to an "advertizement." RE: real player oddity
Well, according to MLB, they would prefer you to use Windows Media, so even if you call them or write them I doubt you'll get any help. I can only say that I bought the TV package for a month but I haven't seen that problem yet. Try clearing the respective player's caches and make sure that only 1 player is the default player for Windows audio/video. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of kevin and emma Sent: Wednesday, October 04, 2006 8:21 AM To: PC audio discussion list. Re: real player volume control
Since I started using Real Player in 2002, there has been no way to independently control the volume. For me personally, this has not been an issue as I have an external synthesizer, and I would rather not use Real Alternative because of what I've heard about it not working with all streams, but as with so many things int he comptuer world, it's largely a matter of personal preference and individual needs. RE: RUNTIME ERROR IN REAL PLAYER
Hi. I don't know what the error means, or how to fix it, but I wonder if the NFL audio is the only stream you have trouble playing with Real Player? If so, then I'd be calling the NFL tech support line. I have the NFL subscription and have no problems playing the stream. You might get a new copy of Real Player from the site. Hope this is helpful. RUNTIME ERROR IN REAL PLAYER
Hey all, I'm subscribed to the National Football League Field Pass, which allows you to hear all NFL games. Whenever I attempt to begin playing a stream using Real Player, I receive the following message. A Runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to Debug? Line: 10 Error: 'omni_vp' is undefined The error happens whenever any broadcast stream begins. About half the time, the stream will time out soon after, forcing me to restart the stream. Any ideas on what might be causing this? Is there anything I can do, or should I contact the NFL tech support folks? RE: Burning Real Music Store Music to CD using Real Player
There are two or three ways to do this. They are reasonably easy. One way would be to creat a play list in My Library and then burn the list. Perhaps the easiest way is to locate the tracks you want to burn, generally located in the My Music folder in My Documents, right click them or sometimes you have to use control+F10 and arrow down to the Burn in Real Player item. Hit enter on this and it will place the track or tracks that you have selected in the burn queue in the Real Player Burn and transfer page. >From there tab down to the first combo box and select the device you want to use, i.e. your cd burner or an .mp3 player. Tab down again to the second combo box and select the typ of disk you are making, i.e. audio, .mp3 or whatever. Tab down to burn and hit the enter key. Do not try to trigger with the space bar as it will play the last selection you played in Real Plyer. The tab control immediately before the Burn button allows you to select certain options such as burn speed, insertion of a space between tracks and normalization if you have the premium player. Once the cd is burned you can, if enabled, tab down to other options and burn another copy or creat jewel case inserts. Please let me know if you have any questions. problem with real player 1
I downloaded a .pls file from a website. When I went to play it, real player 1 said it couldn't play it (Go Figure). I have .pls files selected in winap file associations. Re: Real Player Question
Jim, Highlight a file of a type you DON'T want played by Realplayer. Click on Files, and on Open With. Select the player you DO want to play files of that type, AND be sure to check the checkbox that says "always use this program to open files of this type." Since, I gather, Realplayer has already made itself your default player, you'll have to do this, separately, for each files type currently played by Realplayer that you want played by some other player. But that will probably be easier than making some other player your default player, and, then, trying to get Realplayer to play all and only the file types that only it can play. Good luck. Hi there, Here's a quick question. I have both Windows Media and Real Player installed; however, I need to find a way of changing Real Player for it NOT to be my default player. Re: alternative to real player
Ah, well on my old machine, when I would hit a real stream, the volume of jaws would go way down to the point one couldn't hardly hear it. Just have to be careful to not let it associate with all types, but that volume thing is why I now stay away from real, most stations use media player or winamp anyways. - Original Message - From: "Bruce Toews" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. Re: alternative to real player
well of course, I don't have that problem as I don't use software speech and I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone else use it either if they can avoid it, you just don't have any idea how much the performance of a computer system is increased without that but each to their own of course. Hi, all, I don't think that the tara plugin will work with real one or anything above that, plus, its' development has ceased more than two years ago, so the tara plugin may not work with something other than real 8 basic, way back there. Ian, I listened to the stream from Sydney that you touted as an example of really high quality streaming. Nothing wrong with it, at all, but nothing special, either, as far as I could tell. Re: alternative to real player
Hi Marty and list, It's been a while since I installed real alternative. I don't remember having to tell it to specificly play .rm files. I haven't experimented with live streams with it yet either. I was just tired of real player in the system tray and it always used to ask me if I wanted to install the latest version? Why when I hardly ever use the player. Later. Re: CHANGING OUTPUT SOUND DEVICE IN REAL PLAYER
Neither do I. My only issue with Realplayer is that one cannot change the output device, and Real Networks shows no interest in adding that facility. But, for me, that is a MAJOR functionality issue (even if not an accessibility issue). Blessed Be, Dana that's Dayna, D A N A, NOT Donna, D O N N A D. S. Leslie, née C. R. Re: alternative to real player
As far as I have been able to determine by experiment, it really doesn't. It simply allows Winamp's user interface to be used as the user interface to RealPlayer. But it's still RealPlayer and its drivers that are doing all the real work. Blessed Be, Dana that's Dayna, D A N A, NOT Donna, D O N N A D. S. Leslie, née C. R. Yes, Denny, Real alternative is a good piece of software. But I have a problem with it. Every time I add a live stream to the favorites it works normaly, but after closing and opening the program again, none of them work as it should and get :real media error". I don't know what's going on. Does anybody have the same thing? Thanks! Marijan - Original Message - From: Denny Daughters To: PC audio discussion list. Re: CHANGING OUTPUT SOUND DEVICE IN REAL PLAYER
Hi Tyler! It's too bad that Real takes this attitude. I use Windows Media and Win-Amp. It beats the heck out of the other players! I mean Winamp! - Original Message - From: "Tyler Wood" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. " Sent: Tuesday, December 13, 2005 6:42 PM Subject: Re: CHANGING OUTPUT SOUND DEVICE IN REAL PLAYER Yes. For some reason, I had been having trouble using real player. It seems that if you mention that your visually impaired/blind (which I had experemented with), they seem to ignore you. On the other hand, when I complained without saying I was blind, they responded immidiately and, although a little better support was found, they're atitude didn't change much. I stil prefer winamp or windows meedia player, simply because for one thing, real players volume is the same as jaws (or window-eyes) which tells me I need a new sound card, and it seems that if you exit (or minimize it) it gives no info what so ever about where you are. Their attitude seems to be, 'There can't be much of a demand for it, since we don't offer it, and people still use our software.' Blessed Be, Dana that's Dayna, D A N A, NOT Donna, D O N N A D. S.
