RE: PESO:Tamron SP70-150mm 2.8 on the K10D 3 test shots
Hi Jim Are you looking for the soft focus feature or just for a fast Tamron SP zoom? The soft focus ring settings 1-3 are nice for full portrait shots or flower close-ups with uniform backgrounds. If the background is too busy the bokeh with the soft focus ring engaged is harsh and unpleasant . I will have to experiment a bit with that feature on the K10D, I last used it on film and only liked about 1 out of 10 soft focus shots :-( The slower non SP 70-150mm 3.5 Tamron is very inexpensive here but I can't say anything about it's quality and if it is similar to the SP one. The same is true for the SP 70-210 3.5/4 zoom lens. Again a heavy but well built lens. Re: bags bags bags
I have the Stealth Reporter 200. I think it should carry your list fairly easily. When I used it, it carried my EOS10D with 17-40/4L attached, the 70-200/4L, a 50mm, big flash, and quite a number of little things. Now I use it as my portable lighting bag. My only complaint is that it sticks out too far away from my body while shooting. Also I have the version where there are two buckles on the top flap, they've since gone to only one buckle on the Stealth series. And I don't know what else they've changed. On 3/30/07, Godfrey DiGiorgi [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I have more freekin' camera bags than I know what to do with. But I don't have a good bag that will hold the K10D plus DA14, DA21, FA28, FA43 and DA70, with one lens mounted on the camera, and still a) have enough room to carry all the other junk I often carry (batteries, cards, remote, notebook, book to read, cell phone, Epson P2000 etc ... NO laptop) and b) carry all that and still work out of it. I have bags that will FIT all that but are useless to work out of, bags that are wonderful to work out of but only carry two lenses comfortably ... etc etc. My Domkes *almost* do it but the F6 is a little too tight, the F3 is too deep, the F2 gets too large, etc etc etc. So I began a search for that next 'perfect bag' to fulfill those requirements a couple of weeks ago. After looking at a lot of bags, I think I'm coming down to a decision. The Lowepro Stealth Reporter series design works well and they have a wide range of sizes. The D100 is too small ... I tried one of them, stuff doesn't fit. The D200 looks like it might work and the D300 really has to work ... but the D200 and D300 are out of stock locally so I can't try my stuff in them. I *will not* buy another bag that I do not fit my stuff into physically and see how it works. The other two are the Crumpler (famous for the worlds *worst* website... not to mention stupid bag names) 6 Million Dollar Home and 7 Million Dollar Home. But nobody carries them in stock locally. My local dealer told me the other day that one of his distributors does carry Crumpler and maybe he had a '6 Million Dollar Home' that he could bring in for me to look at. If I don't call you today, figure he doesn't have one. He didn't call. So this morning I called BH and asked if it would be all right if I ordered *four* bags ... both Crumplers and both Lowepros ... and then returned three. It's worth the shipping charges to get the right one, to me. They said no problem, so four bags are on their way to me now... Of course, my local dealer calls me back about an hour after that. ;-) Our distributor didn't have a 6, but he had a 5 and a 7, dropped them off... The 5 Million Dollar Home is obviously too small so I didn't bother looking at it much, but it does seem nicely made. The 7 Million Dollar Home is very nice. Everything fit the way I wanted it to and is well protected, and there's a ton more room both above the gear and in pockets to handle all the other incidentals. It's nicely styled ... trim and not an obvious camera bag ... and looks to be well made. Blue with an orange interior isn't quite my thing but it seems a very workable bag. I don't know whether the 6 will actually have enough room, based on how everything fits in the 7 ... It's about two inches smaller both in length and height, but the same front to back. Anyone else using these bags? What do you carry in them? how do you like them? Please ... only the Lowepro Stealth Reporter D200-D300 and the Crumpler 6/7 Million Dollar Home bags. I don't want to even think about anything else at this point. Once I settle on this one, I'm going to do a fire sale on all the ones I don't use... ! Now to decide which platform. I spend more time on the PC as far as doing pictures than the Mac, but i have CS on it, so that should suffice for the time being. Thnaks for all the replies folks. Re: One more 2400 profile question
Hi Dave, Assuming you have installed the icc profiles from the Epson web site, you should have four choices for premium glossy in the profiles menu of your print with preview window. These are: premium glossy, premium glossy photo icc, premium glossy best photo icc, and premium glossy RPM photo icc. The last one is for printing at the very best quality. If you choose this you have to click on advanced in the printer settings option in your print box. Then you choose photo rpm. That's the highest resolution print setting. Have fun. The slower non SP 70-150mm 3.5 Tamron is very inexpensive here but I can't say anything about it's quality and if it is similar to the SP one. Re: One more 2400 profile question
That's odd. Is this on you iBook or your PC? Anyway, looking at those options they are all using the Premium Glossy Paper profile, the PHOTO, BSTPHOTO, PHOTORPM are quality level options (in order of quality from lowest to highest). Photo RPM is supposed to be the best of them, but IMHO it just uses more ink with little apparent quality benefit. Personally I tend to use the Best Photo (BSTPHOTO) quality option. For what it's worth here are a couple of screen captures from my system. This one is where I select the paper profile in the Print with Preview dialogue box: http://www.arach.net.au/~savage/Misc/PSCS2SC_01.jpg ...and this is where I select the quality setting in the printer properties dialogue box under Page Setup...: http://www.arach.net.au/~savage/Misc/PSCS2SC_02.jpg Cheers, Dave On 3/31/07, David J Brooks [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Dave. Re: One more 2400 profile question
Epson used to sell Archival Matte, then changed the name to Enhanced Matte, and has now renamed it again to Ultra Premium Presentation Matte. Use the SPR2400 - Enhanced Matte for that one with the Matte black ink. Epson Heavyweight Matte is a different paper with a profile that matches its name. A PK extension on the profile name means that you want to print on these papers with the Photo Black ink installed. Current R2400 installation for the Premium Glossy paper is the SPR2400 PremiumGlossy with the Photo Black ink Godfrey On Mar 31, 2007, at 7:58 AM, David J Brooks wrote: Hi gang. These are renamed from Epson Heavyweight Matte and Epson Enhanced Matte and still point to the pages under those names: http://homepage.mac.com/godders/EpsonMPH.jpg and http://homepage.mac.com/godders/EpsonEEM.jpg I use both of these, as well as the Velvet Fine Art paper (available in 8.5x11 and 13x19 sizes). I use the Heavyweight Matte for signage and most stuff that is more text/informational, and Enhanced Matte for photographs. In testing, I find the Enhanced Matte does a better job at tonal separation and color brightness. Velvet Fine Art is even nicer for photographs, with a nicer surface finish excellent saturation, but is kinda expensive for everyday use. Re: bags bags bags
The top flap is held closed by Velcro as well as a snap buckle strap. Even the velcro alone is pretty good at keeping the bag closed, I've had few problems unless my 7 Million Dollar Home is fully loaded with glass (and then I simply use the buckle as well, normally I don't bother with the buckle) Zipper's are unnecessary and slow you down when shooting. -Adam Igor Roshchin wrote: Dave, It is the first time I see these line of bags. On pics with a lot of detail, RPM makes a difference, particularly in large sizes. but only on glossy or luster papers. I print a lot of 11 x17 on Premium Luster paper. Figured I might as well: I downloaded all three packages of the latest paper profiles from Epson ... Glossy, Matte and Fine Art. Adding the profiles adds Photo and Bst Photo versions for EEM, HM, and VFA, and Photo, BstPhoto, RPM for Lustre and Glossy. (others too but I don't use anything other than EEM, HM, and VFA ordinarily) I just printed three tests in Photo, Best Photo comparing against my old use of the previous profiles with Best Photo quality. On HM, EEM and VFA ... differences are extremely small to my eye. Which is better ... hard to say. I'll wait a day and see how they dry down. I still haven't printed a page of glossy or luster with this printer ... ! Bought a box of Premium Luster 8.5x11, though, maybe I'll try it someday. ;-) What does RPM stand for again? RE: PESO:Tamron SP70-150mm 2.8 on the K10D 3 test shots
Hi Jim I have a second Tamron SP 70-150mm F2.8 in quite good condition but the soft focus ring is broken somehow. If I engage the ring the zoom only produced a blank exposure with my film cameras. With the ring set to off position the lens works fine . I don't know if that can be repaired easily? The seller did not tell me that and when I noticed it was too late. If you are able to fix that fault and would not mind the shipping cost from Switzerland you could have it for a low price or in exchange for some other photographic equipment like Tamron KA adaptall2 adapter. I have a spare 2x Tamron SP tele converter as well and a manual Pentax adaptall2 adapter with it. I will make some tests with the Tamron 70-210 SP 3.5/4 zoom + SP 2x teleconverter on the K10D for bird shots and hope for a usable Background rendering, the SP 500mm Tamron mirror lens was just not good in this regard. My only complaint is that it sticks out too far away from my body while shooting. Also I have the version where there are two buckles on the top flap, they've since gone to only one buckle on the Stealth series. And I don't know what else they've changed.
