Re: M28/2.8 vs. A28/2.8
The 2.8 lenses may be only 2/3 stop faster than the f3.5 but that difference alone would mitigate against using just the K 28 3.5 under many circumstances. I might use it outside in relatively bright conditions, but all the inherent sharpness in the world won't make up for a misfocused image due to a too dark viewfinder. I do that enough with fast lenses... Paul Stenquist wrote: > The SMC Pentax 28/3.5 (K series) may well be the sharpest of them > all. Re: M28/2.8 vs. A28/2.8
Scott, On the M28/2.8: This was my 3rd lens purchase years ago. I was never very happy with the overall sharpness in my slides and film. I've had two copies that developed sticky aperture and needed cleaning. On the A28/2.8: This lens has a plastic aperture ring. The metal lock-outs for the A button came loose and jammed the whole ring. I think the picture quality was better than the M, but I don't have as much experience with it. The F28/2.8 and K30/2.8 are both 2-4X as expensive as the M or A. The series-II M28/2.8 is as rare as the F28/2.8 or K30/2.8. You may find one for a good price because of seller ignorance. I've been to Runde three times this year. What I saw at my last trip was a total disaster. Most of the birds seem to have left their eggs behind, and according to the local newspaper they are now in the fjords looking for food. On the bright side, last year and the year before was very good years. So, if the adults find something to get by, they will hopefully have a good year next year. -- MaritimTim 2008/7/31 mike wilson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > >> >> From: "Tim Øsleby" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >> Date: 2008/07/31 Thu PM 12:18:30 GMT >> To: "Pentax-Discuss Mail List" >> Subject: Re: PESOs Stuff from the last few months >> >> Thanks for an interesting link. >> The theory makes me a bit depressed. Re: M28/2.8 vs. A28/2.8
There are two different versions of the M 28 one is cosmetically similar and optically identical to the A 28. the older version is a slightly different optical formula and looks like all the other M lenses. I was never happy with any of the earlier f2.8 28mm lenses that Pentax produced, instead I've got the K 30mm f2.8. If you're looking for corner to corner image quality on 35mm film that's the lens to get. I'm a mystery winner
I've just been informed that one of my photos has taken a prize in the BBC "Love Earth" photo contest (http://www.loveearth.com)... they just haven't mentioned *which* one of the dozen or so I entered has been picked. I suppose I'll find out on Monday, which is when the next batch goes on line. They say I've won a Planet Earth DVD box set and some Lonely planet vouchers. No idea if any of this is worth having but at least it's free :) -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

I like vintage racing for the ingenuity you often see in the paddock. As far as I can tell both of these are similar optically to the 'A' lens or later of the 'M' series, sans the coatings of course. - Peter -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
RE: M28/2.8 vs. A28/2.8
Further research (Boz's K-mount pages) informs me that there are two versions of M28/2.8. I wasn't aware of the early version. The later version is in fact the same optical formula as the A28/2.8, and has some similarities to A lenses unlike the early M lens which is has all the typical M features. Although Boz states that the M version 2 was rare, it is the version described in the lens booklets that came with my ME Super when it was newly purchased, and is the reason I stated that M and A versions of 28/2.8 are optically identical. Scott should determine which lens he is referencing. Consult Boz is my advice. http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/lenses/primes/wide-angle/M28f2.8-i.html http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/lenses/primes/wide-angle/M28f2.8-ii.html http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/lenses/primes/wide-angle/A28f2.8.html There's an F version as well: http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/lenses/primes/wide-angle/F28f2.8.html regards, Anthony Farr > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of > Dario Bonazza > Sent: Thursday, 31 July 2008 4:39 PM > To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List > Subject: Re: M28/2.8 vs. A28/2.8 > > Anthony Farr wrote: > > > > I'm not Margaret, however > > Me neither. > > > Optically, these lenses will be the same formula. > > Sorry Anthony, but NO. I understand there were two variants of the 'M' lens; an older one which had a different optical design, and a newer one which was almost identical to the A version but without the contacts or A position. Though it does seem this newer design is somewhat rare.
