I used it mostly to take product shots for a client who sells vintage watches. It's really a very good camera. The resolution is quite good, the lens is sharp and focuses down to mm's and, of course, it's waterproof. I've taken mine into a pool down to about 12 feet without any trouble. I've even recorded underwater video with it. My only wish for the camera were for it to have settings that aren't burried in menus but that was probably a design issue to make the camera easier to water seal. I found the battery life to be pretty good and the batteries don't take super long to charge. As far as return on investment goes, it's by far the best camera I own :-) -Brendan -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

I think that 'reflects' my view as well. I agree that the sea (which was indeed shallow - I was standing in it!) looks muddy and it wasn't in reality, so a bit more work might be worthwhile to improve that. J. Edgar Hoover kept secret dossiers on almost everyone with a public face, and many who didn't. He hated MLK and anything to do with the civil rights movement. I's originally made for Canon cameras, but it comes with af cable(jack) for Pentax as well, so it works with my Pentax'es as well as with K10, K100, K200 as well the Samsung GX10 and GX20. It can activate the AF function and the 2 sec. timer, which is nice for macro work. I can use the trigger device (reciever) directly. Re: Scanning bit depth
Film has no bits. :-) The Minolta Dimage Scan Dual IV that Adam mentioned produces 16-bit scans. I have one as well and have had no problems getting the desired dynamic range from scanned film images. I also use VueScan. Of course your scan will be no better than the 1st generation image. I find that my scanned film images always seem to retain the magical film quality even though digital. I don't know why that is, or if it's my imagination, but there's a certain quality of smoothness or naturality that I see in them. Tom C. Enablement: Gear of the Year 2009
I received af Hähnel HWC433 C80 remote trigger for my K-7 and K20 today. It causes no vibrations to the camera body, due to the cable connection - or I kan use the small transmitter, that has a telescopic antenna. I tried to activate the camera from adistanace of perhaps 10m (30 feet), which worked just fine. The price tag is a little high here - about 100 USD. But it's worth it, I guess. Now I can do family-dinner shots, that will include my self, for a change :-) I just need to put the camera on a tripod in a suitable distance from the table - and then bring the small remote trigger with me. What I really want it for, is panorama shots from a very high tripod or monopod, in which case I can't actually reach the camera with my hands. I guess I can recommend this nice, small, Irish made device. Probably my gear of the year as well. It also gives you a 10 pound discount towards the book purchase, which then ends up costing 15 pounds. The way I looked at it was: I'm just having a kebab for lunch today and in exchange for 20 pounds I get to see the Camille Silvy exhibit and own the book. Fuzzy logic, but I'm happy with the results :-) While at the NPG, I also saw the mini exhibit of Jason Bell's "An Englishman in New York", which despite the title featured a fair amount of women: http://www.npg.org.uk/whatson/display/jason-bell.php If you like B&W portraits, it's worth a visit (Kate Winslet looks particularly lovely). It only has a small room to itself with maybe 20 portraits hanging, but then you can sneak into the bookstore and thumb through the book to see many more. I didn't buy the book but wish I could've given up my kebab lunch for it. --M. -- \/\/o/\/\ --> http://WorldOfMiserere.com http://EnticingTheLight.com A Quest for Photographic Enlightenment -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

The thing is that for most people choosing a camera isn't based on a simple scalar quantity like cost or resolution, but a very complex vector: cost, resolution, high iso quality, low iso quality, size, ease of use, ease of manual focus, auto focus speed, exposure accuracy, and so forth. I'm also coming to reject the single brand theory of camera ownership. Yes, it's nice to have all of your lenses work on all of your bodies, but bodies are becoming damn near expendable these days, and it's almost a case of buying a lens/body combination to do a particular job. So, if you need a capability that can only be achieved with a canon lens, or a nikon body, buy what you need in that family to do that job. Should work. For example, orange filter will pass almost no blue light. And sky will be black. Some special effects, related to different emulsions, will not be visible, IMHO. Re: Scanning bit depth
Vuescan does multiscan as well. Cheap scans are almost always garbage. A half-decent dedicated 35mm scanner or a decent flatbed (for MF) will produce greatly superior scans for not too much money. My Minolta Scan Dual IV ($250 on eBay) and Epson 4870 (couple generation old high-end flatbed) produce excellent results with not too much difficulty. With film, you either have to pay through the nose for good scans or do them yourself. The second option is cheaper but time consuming. -Adam On Wed, Sep 15, 2010 at 9:38 AM, Thibouille wrote: > Larry, I dunno if your scaner is supported but Silverfast does > multipass scanning which should be useful. > > 2010/9/15 Larry Colen : >> >> On Sep 14, 2010, at 11:14 PM, P.
