Re: PSEL and LR4

2013-05-28 Thread Christine Nielsen
I don't use Elements, but I will say that I noticed some buggy things when I
upgraded to LR4 and then tried to use photoshop (cs4) with it... When I would
try to open a file from LR into Ps to do a final tweak, it wouldn't render with
the LR edits I had already done, it would just show up in Ps looking like a
sooc image. I finally figured out that there is a new series of options to
click along the way - there's a dialog box that opens, and I was used to just
hitting "enter" a couple of times & I was in. But somehow, the "render using
Lightroom" option was no long the default, and I have to make sure I click
that...

Did you recently switch to LR4? Is your version of Elements the most recent?
Maybe something similar is happening?

(For creating panoramas, I still haven't worked out how to get Ps to open
several images from LR... I have to export from LR, and then open the file in
Ps...)

Sorry I can't be more helpful... Best of luck!

:)

Thanks, Steve. Wish that it were so. Unfortunately it seems not to be.

Yesterday afternoon I downloaded StellarPhoenixMacDataRecovery and set it to
work scanning for photo files. It churned away till about 7:30 AM this morning.
The result? "No data found." I take that as final and conclusive. [I didn't
have to pay for the app to run it on my drive. If it'd found anything I would
have had to pay for it to recover it.]

In my initial post yesterday I asked how this could have been avoided. I have
two thoughts: [1] Trust Time Machine, which accumulates backups till the drive
being used runs out of space. [My daily backups to two drives, which provided
only two days of backups, was worthless.] [2] Don't leave your database
unattended for extended periods of time. Visit frequently.

If I had done both of this, especially the second, I would not have experienced
this disaster.

Thanks again to all who responded.

Curious how you do this, Bruce. Actually, not sure what it is you're doing.
Creating duplicate Time Machine backups of the internal hard drive? Increasing

Both make sense to me. Combining them would be fantastic. But not clear from

For a while my grandparents had a little grocery, the front porch of which was
not more than 25 yards from the track. I used to go stand on it while a freight
train went through at top speed. There was a lot more than "chuffing" to that
experience. The ground shook under my feet.

Thank you, Derby. Not much of a back story, I don't guess. She's our

and her mother have talked to me about her becoming a model, so we're
slowly putting together a portfolio to show off her different looks.

She's only thirteen, but has a presence that, I think, comes through in
her photos, and she's a joy to shoot.

PESO - Nebraska Spring

2013-05-28 Thread George Sinos
While Darren looks forward to Spring to go chasing tornados, the rest
of Nebraska is trying to get a good night's sleep. The weather radio
has blown it's horn in the middle of the last two nights and the
weather report threatens to make that three in a row.

That's how we tell it's spring in Nebraska. The snow melts, the
tornado sirens blow and flowers bloom. Not necessarily in that order.

Anyway, the lilac bushes bloomed and I thought I'd get this photo
before they blow away.

This one was shot with the 100mm macro on a K7 and a monopod. Can't
remember which 100mm. It has an aperture ring.

I gotta cut back on the Mountain Dew. I used to be able to hand hold

Re: PSEL and LR4

2013-05-28 Thread Igor Roshchin

David,

While I haven't used PS or PSEL on Mac, the synopsis of your problems
suggests that the configuration file for PSEL may have gotten corrupted.
I've seen similar situations with the earlier versions of PS on Windows.

What I would try is to find the location of the PSEL
configuration file (that contains all the preferences and configs),
move it to a safe place [keep that as a reserve copy, just in case],
and start PSEL without that file.

HTH.

Best,
Igor

Hugely enjoyable gallery, Cotty. They'll be ecstatic over these shots,

When you initially setup an external Time Machine backup drive, TM
automatically includes the internal Mac drive on its backup list and
_excludes_ any other external storage (including the backup drive
itself; quite reasonably).

At this point you can add extra stuff to exclude from the backup
process, like downloaded installers that you can always get again,
application caches, temporary or junk files, etc. That will let you
keep more backups before TM starts deleting them for new ones.

You can also, and this is the critical part, un-exclude any external
drives that you want TM to include in its backup list. Open TM prefs,
click Options, find your external data drive in the exclude list and
delete that entry. That's it. From now on TM will back that up too.

The reason that my 1 TB backup drive is working for me is because my 2
TB drive is only 30% full and I've excluded a bunch of it from
backups. I'll eventually need a bigger backup drive as the big one
fills up.

I thought you'd photographed that one because the floor tiles look like

Dave, try this:

1) open Lightroom 4
2) go into Lightroom Preferences
3) click external editing in Preferences (it's the third tab at the top, in
between presets and file handling)
4) in the box marked additional external editor, look for Application
5) click on the little button labeled choose
6) when choose opens, click on Applications
7) Choose Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 (i have photoshop elements 11)
8) Choose supported files
9) Choose Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor.app--this is the key point
here--choose this!!
10) then click choose in the lower right hand corner

The above might work, but no promises. When I got Elements 11, I couldn't get
a lightroom file to open in the photoshop elements editor. Then with some
research on the net, I learned about this. Now I can open the file in the PSE
editor as opposed to the PSE organizer. But saving the file next to the
lightroom original for some reason never seems to work. I have to export from
PSE 11 then reimport into lightroom. Maybe someone knows the trick to get the
file saved/stacked next to the lightroom original in lightroom 4--even though I
have this option ticked in Lightroom 4.

Other than this procedure , I don't have any other ideas.

Cheers, Christine

The D7000 came out at the same time as the K-5 and had the same sensor.
The D7100 is an upgrade to that.

The D7000/71000 have the advantage that they will work well with the old
AIS manual focus lenses. Even the old (spotmatic era) Nikon lenses can be
modified to work with AIS bodies, with full metering.
The D90 will only meter with the autofocus lenses.

Apart from low light focus, and a tendancy to splatter lubricant on the sensor
for the first 2,000 frames, the D600, is a very nice, relatively affordable
full frame sensor camera (which will also work with all the nikon lenses).

A lot of the low end nikons will only work well with autofocus lenses that
have their own internal autofocus motors.

In Windows it's in a folder for the editor separate from the Organizer
with a file name PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe. If that's not there, you
might need to reinstall PSE.

June PUG - A bit of extra time

2013-05-28 Thread Brian Walters

G'day all from San Francisco

Arrived here with a bad head cold - I may have to curtail my
sightseeing, except for the Yosemite tour tomorrow. Also WiFi at our
hotel is wonky so I have to find a cafe with free WiFi when I need to
check mail.

Anyway, I plan to wait until I get home on about 8 June before
compiling the June gallery. So you have a bit of extra time, which is
just as well because we have zero submissions so far.

The June theme is 'Trees'.

Submit here:

http://pug.komkon.org/submit/

Submission Guidelines here:

http://pug.komkon.org/general/autosubmit.html

The main requirements are:
* Max. pixel dimensions: 800 x 800 pixels
* Max file size: 300k
* Third party equipment is acceptable provided either the camera body
or lens used is Pentax.
* If you embed a colour space in the image, it should be sRGB to
ensure that the image is displayed correctly on line.
