I didn't drink enough while we were out, so by the time i got home i was quite dehydrated, and drank 1.5 litres of milk, 1 litre of chocolate milk, half a litre of gazpacho, and ate 3 oranges before I felt right. Ahh I know dehydration a bit too well :) I've found that drinking too much too soon will cause me to just pee it all out so instead I'll fill a bottle and sip regularly for the rest of the evening, refilling as needed. When it's really bad it'll take 30 mins to an hour of this for the nausea to go away. And my habit in France had been to do a full set of stretches morning and evening, which I didn't do yesterday, so I was woken in the night by severe leg cramps, which forced me to do the stretches at about 1:30 am. Yes when you're exercising every day the stretches become essential, especially at the end of each session so you did well on your trip. Stretches are best when the muscles are warmed up - I do mine as soon as I get in from my workouts. It sounds like a bit of recovery is in order so I think you might now have an excuse to sit on the couch and watch the Commonwealth Games. And I'm sure that beer probably contains plenty of electrolytes to help those cramping muscles. Maybe add some sodium from a couple of packets of crisps too :D Cheers, Dave -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

i have the similar LowePro Street Field bag, from a different era. I don't use it now, but I took it with me when I travelled round Romania and later India. Re: backpack for stuff as well as cameras - Lowepro Fastpack, anyone?
Hi Charles I've had had the Fastpack200 for several years and have used it as a combined day bag and camera carrier for walking holidays. It works fine. I happily carried a K7, 16-50 and 50-135, along with wet weather outers for a couple of weeks averaging 12 miles a day. Only thing that might trouble some is that it gets a bit hot and sweaty on the back as there's nothing to keep it off the back. Chris On 23 July 2014 03:00, Charles Robinson charl...@visi.com wrote: I'm going to be taking a trip with the wife to Washington, DC in late September. I anticipate that it will be many days of walking and biking around, and I'm thinking I might want something more comfortable/convenient than a standard camera bag -- not only because they have just the one strap so they're always hanging off of a shoulder (or over your neck), but also think it might be convenient to be able to carry a windbreaker, or water bottle, or other sundries with me. I don't picture carrying a LOT of camera gear with me - but I do anticipate wanting at least one alternate/telephoto lens for the K5 (16-50 is my daily lens) with me, as well as the PS and other stuff. NOT a laptop, not a lot of flash gear, not a tripod. Searching around Amazon, I've come across the Lowepro Fastpack 200 (not the newer 250) and it seems like just the ticket. A bit of camera gear in the bottom section, and regular stuff up top. It looks like access to the innards of the bag is relatively straightforward when you need to root around for extra gear (most backpacks make you take them off and lay them carefully on the ground before opening them up), and I like the quick access for pulling out the camera/lens combo if you've been walking around with the camera stowed. Re: PESO: Loon Shot(s)
Thanks Eric (and others). Actually, the first one (and all of the ones in my first 5 minutes or so of shooting) was underexposed and adjusted in LR later. I had had exposure compensation set to -1.3 for some shots of the sunset the evening before. I saw the loon, came in to get my camera, mount the extender and lens, set mode to AV, checked the ISO. Got the tripod, went out on the dock, saw that I was getting decent shutter speeds with that ISO, started shooting. Once I realized he would be there a while, I took a deep breath and re-checked including a look at the histograms to verify that the exposure was about right. Oops! Zeroed the compensation and went on with the shooting. I considered upping the ISO at that point to get back to a higher speed but decided not to do that. A total of about 120 shots over a 15 minute time span around 6:00pm. Way OT -- Arcane bicycle question
My bicycle is a 1973-vintage Raleigh Super Course, in very good condition (if you don't look too closely at the paint!), with all original parts except the tires and pedals. Despite many thousands of miles it's still going strong. The problem is tires. Short version: The rims are hookless dimpled Weinmanns. Is there a modern tire that will stay on a hookless rim? Or, how do a get a modern tire to stay on? Long version: A few years ago my tires were worn out, and I replaced them; but after a few months the tube herniated between the tire and rim and blew out. Fortunately it was the rear, and I wasn't going fast. I was also passing under a stone arch bridge, and the bang! was spectacular. So I replaced both tires with wire-rimmed, Kevlar-reinforced (for our glass-and-nail-paved streets) Schwalbe Marathons. They rode well for a couple of years (70psi front and rear), but Saturday the rear tire exhibited the telltale bulge of incipient tubular herniation (ITH). Much time on Google has failed to provide an answer to this conundrum, so I turn to the vast collective wisdom of The List. Re: Way OT -- Arcane bicycle question
This is the best reference I could find… http://www.bikeforums.net/bicycle-mechanics/136163-hookless-rim.html But…oh, what a lovely bike! I bought one in 1973 when I was 17 years old and used it for touring and commuting around London and Southern Ontario. That all ended one snowy February night in 1976 when I was hit by a car while cycling home from work. The bike was wrecked and I came close to being wrecked, too. Six months in a cast with a broken leg. All I was able to salvage off the Super Course was the Brooks saddle. In 1983, though, I bought another Super Course, which I still have. I think it had been in the dealer's stock for awhile; I suspect that it is actually a 1978 or '79 model. It's even better than the first one, though (Reynolds butted tubes vs. straight) but it is the next larger frame size and I've never felt that it was quite as good a fit on me. I've done some touring with it but I am not the passionate cyclist I used to be with the original green Super Course (this one is red). In fact, I hadn't ridden it for two years until this past Monday, when I got it out and went for a ride around the area (I'm in Nova Scotia now… beautiful cycling country). The bike is in great shape (except for the paint…) and the original Brooks saddle still does its job… Thanks for letting me reminisce. Re: backpack for stuff as well as cameras - Lowepro Fastpack, anyone?
On Jul 22, 2014, at 7:00 PM, Charles Robinson charl...@visi.com wrote: I'm going to be taking a trip with the wife to Washington, DC in late September. Has anyone here used these, or anything similar to them? Good? Bad? Suggestions? I’ve been using the Fastpak 350 as my daily bag for something like 6 years now. I originally bought it because it was one of the few bags that had a pocket that was suitable for putting things like my wallet and phone in. The one downside is that it does not have good straps for attaching a tripod. I finally figured out this trick, by clipping the tripod to the handle at the top and looping the carry strap over the tripod and under the straps for the small covered pouch. https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/72157632665692043 My benro/Induro 5 section carbon fiber monopod fits in the computer pocket with the ball head removed. My first one died, and was replace under warranty with no problems. People hardly ever complain because their camera bag has a little bit more room than they need. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

OT - And didn't like how photographers were treated?
Southwest Airlines removed a passenger and his family from the plane after he tweeted his opinion about the rude gate agent. http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2014/07/22/family-asked-to-leave-sw-plane-after-tweet/ Just earlier this year, I've experienced a comparably rude agent and flight attendant with United Express (ExpressJet) in Houston (IAH). Still quite easy to get as many racers swear by them. I find them expensive and fiddly and am thinking about selling my tubular race wheels to get some clinchers.
