It is one of twelve windows, each representing an event from the liturgical calendar. http://georges.posterous.com/stained-glass-window-st-bridgets-church I've returned to the church several times to photograph the windows, altars, and many, many details. A couple of additional trips may be necessary, but most of the photography is complete. Now, the effort of turning the photos into finished work begins. I've started making a few prints. This is has been a very very interesting project. The windows, due to their locations, the lighting and a few other things have been a learning experience. Before the project I hadn't given much thought to white balance for the windows. A bit of Tungsten light reflecting from the frames on the inside, natural light from the outside. I returned a couple of times to get a photo of each window with similar outside light. Daylight WB has resulted in the best color rendition. For the photos, the window colors look best on a clear day with no direct sunlight. It's interesting how small changes in exposure effected the color and detail in the smaller window pieces. Glad I bracketed the exposures. PESO - The Flying Aussie (messenger photo)
I will continue to show lots of bike messenger photos over the next several weeks. In fairness to those of you who might find this stuff repetitive or boring I will warn you in the SL. Re: PESO - The Flying Aussie (messenger photo)
Not really, except that during my eight weeks off the bike, being a walking/metropassing courier with a camera, most of my photos were of messengers. I might at least have the genesis of something, but I don't know just what yet. Show? Book? I have a few shots of messengers off the bike but mostly it's guys and gals riding by me. I feel a bunch of ride-by shots isn't really enough to do anything meaningful. We'll see... Thanks for asking! Re: OT - Back on the Road Again
Absolutely, Boris! Went for a light spin today (first time on bike since collision - two months). Felt good in the legs and on the shoulder. My big concern is that should I have another collision or fall that shoulder will be fragile. Taking it easy and being careful is a must. Pain is all but gone and what pain I feel is almost certainly soft tissue and not the break. Mild concern that the x-rays are not showing much bone between the clavicle and the chip that broke off, but the doc said that sometimes x-rays just don't show that new bone well. And since the two ligaments in the area appear to be strong and supporting things well, and since my pain is all but gone, riding should be okay. Light rides this weekend and if no pain, cleared for work on Monday. Return for one last set of x-rays in January as a precaution. That is a lot of talk for: we're back on the bike again! Re: GESO - waiting for my car to be serviced
I don't think anyone who does so-called street photography can get ruffled if they miss a shot. Things happen too fast sometimes to catch everything. As you said, Christine, there is just as likely to be a great shot around the next corner, so why sweat it? Mind you I'm that way about all the photography I do. RE: Another example of PDML Anglo-American Collaboration-a blurb book!

Cheers, frank --- Original Message --- From: Christine Aguila christ...@caguila.com Sent: November 17, 2012 11/17/12 To: PDML List pdml@pdml.net Subject: Another example of PDML Anglo-American Collaboration-a blurb book! Hi Everyone: Chris and Karin Mitchell, Bob W., and I would like to share a project we worked on as a thank you gift for Mike Wilson and his family for their wonderful hospitality while in Northumbria this past summer. The book is completed and the Wilsons have received it--with enthusiasm I might add! Our collaborative process was as follows: 1) The Mitchells and Bob W. set up Google Doc pages, posted their photos at full size, then sent me the link. 2) I downloaded all photos and imported the photos into Lightroom 3) In Lightroom using the book module, I began the layout of the book--and saved the project. Don't forget to do that if working on a Lightroom book project. Very important. 4) I wanted to show the Mitchells and Bob a draft, so I took screen shots of each page, saved the screen shots as jpegs, created a web gallery in Lightroom, then sent the link to the Brits for feedback. They commented on layout, cover ideas, typos et al. 5) At the same time, I ordered a proof copy of the book, which helped a lot because I found even more typos after looking at the hardcopy. My only complaint at this point is blurb should offer a discounted proof copy. But anyway . . . 6) After looking at the first draft, which had no cover yet, Chris Mitchell suggested superimposing the cover with our text in the highway sign. That work was done in Photoshop Elements 10, which I purchased for the project, but I needed to get the application anyway with my switch from PC to Mac. 5) So, then I revised, uploaded to blurb, and I purchased the book. 6) I signed the book, shipped it off to the Mitchells so they could sign it, then Chris met up with Bob W. and he signed it. Then it was shipped to the Wilsons, and I'm happy to announce it's safely in their hands. The entire process was easy as punch. I was nervous because this was my first book, but Lightroom 4 makes the process so easy--really I was amazed at how easy it was. The only real hard part is finding the time to actually do such projects. I have lots of ideas now for gifts and my own work, but finding time will be the number one challenge. As the preview shows, we chose an image wrap cover, pro pearlline paper, and some elegant end papers. At first I wasn't keen on the image wrap cover, but to do the cover the way I wanted to and as quickly as I wanted to, the image wrap ended up the best choice, and surprisingly, I liked the result. I had a prejudice against image wrap, but I'm over that now. So, everyone's agreed to share our work, not to sell copies since this is a personal project, but rather just to share the result of our collaboration, which we are all quite proud of. Hope you enjoy! Cheers, Christine, Chris and Karin Mitchell, Bob W., and The Wilsons! Thanks again Mike! We had such a great time! I've had a very rocky relationship with mine. It's an utter failure at what I bought it for, that being a fast, wide angle lens for shooting dancers at close quarters, in low light. I just can't get it to focus properly. I expect that with focus peaking on a K-01 and manual focus, it might actually do pretty well. It also doesn't seem to work as well as I'd like with the astrotracer. One thing that it has turned out to be wonderful at though is as a wide angle close-up lens. The price/quality and price/reliability ratio of DA* 16-50 is high. Although I am not terribly bothered by the soft corners at wider apertures and wider focal lengths, it is a bit unpleasant to look at wide shots Galia and I took in our most recent trip to USA only to see softness where ideally it ought to be sharp... 2. I did not have any SDM troubles with my sample, *yet*. That is, I am going to emphasize that specifically in my ad for it - no SDM issues whatsoever, *yet*. 3. I might use a slightly longer reach for outdoor situations where maximal aperture of f4.5 won't be that objectionable. 4. Yes, the HSM OS lens is better on the paper. However in terms of mechanical longevity the fact that it has the whole optical group designed to be movable is not something I'd appreciate. 5. I've just missed an opportunity to buy one such lens for USD 195 (plus shipping, taxes on my side, etc). So it is not very expensive. I've been introduced to this lens by Jaume few years ago when we met here. So I kind of know this lens and even then I remember I was quite surprised by it. I hope my answer makes sense to you. Re: PESO - Wet Tracks
Yes and yes. Long Branch is a community immediately west of New Toronto, where I live. Started off as a resort community (still some old summer houses by the lake) then as Toronto grew it became a suburb. Long Branch Avenue is also a street although a rather small and insignificant one. They laid out the plan for the suburb in the late nineteenth century but it became more heavily populated once they built the streetcar tracks in the late twenties. At one point it was a semi-autonomous town but was subsumed first by Etobicoke which in turn became part of Toronto. Long Branch is now officially Toronto proper; beyond it lies Mississauga, a large city now part of the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). It's now in economic decline as most industries have long since shut down (although there's still a Chrysler block casting facility there). So now you know. :-) Thanks for the kind words, Dan. Re: PESO - In the Dungeon
The reason I shot downward is that I quite consciously wanted to get her phone, pen and gloves in the photo along with the newspaper. Other than the fact that she's a very attractive young lady, this was a bike messenger shot. She's standing by, reading the paper to kill time. We no longer use two-way radios (the Motorola bricks were ubiquitous) and pagers; everything is dispatched through smartphones these days. Pens and ( in this cooler weather) gloves are part of our equipment. Mailrooms are where we hang out when it gets cold (see the mail bins in the background?). A slice of messenger life... Oh yeah. The other reason I took the photo from that angle: I was standing and she was sitting. ;-) Thanks for the comment! And thanks to all who looked! Enablement/Replacement!
On Friday a package arrived in the post. In it was a K10D with 18-55 WR zoom. As a result of a below market value transaction made with a list member I have secured a replacement for my old K10D lost last month. In fact, this is more than a replacement; the body is in spectacular condition and the zoom is the WR version. As I don't shy away from shooting in soggy conditions this will be a real plus for me. As much as I love my venerable *istD, it is nice to have the more extensive feature set of the K10D. I should mention that several approached me with kind offers of below market value equipment. Re: Pixel-peeping madness
I could be wrong but perhaps Pentax is not thinking that the K5 II or IIS will be so much an upgrade from a K5 as a tweaked or slightly improved model encouraging (for instance) K7 (or older model) owners who initially resisted upgrading to a K5 to make the jump. Maybe it's for those looking for a backup body (as opposed to a replacement) for their K5. Perhaps it's intended to attract non-Pentaxians into the fold. If incremental improvements are available, kudos to Pentax for putting them in an existing body rather than holding them for the next Big New Flagship. There seems so much wailing and gnashing of teeth because its improvements are relatively minor. I'm sure that if it was intended to be a quantum leap it would have been called a K4 or K3 or somesuch. RE: Photography in public places (again)
Shopping malls are interesting places. Here in Canada the Supreme Court has said that they are quasi-public property. Yes, they are privately owned but as the public are invited en masse, individuals have more rights there than in other private places. (the case I refer to said that a union striking a store had the right to picket outside the store but in the mall). All that being said I am sure that the mall has the right to say no photographs. But their only remedy is to issue a notice under the Trespass Act to anyone who contravenes their rules. If the person leaves, that's the end of it. If they don't there is a very specific procedure prescribed by the Trespass Act. By touching the photographer or her camera that mallcop assaulted her. That's criminal. So, apparently, is deleting her images. I like this guy's writing style! Very entertaining, and nice to see common sense used. Using old gems like the A50mm 1:1.2 and A*85mm 1:1.4 was not very easy so I had to rely on focus confirmation from the camera. My old habit of focusing directly on the screen was hopeless. In addition you did not really get an impression of the background with the original screen. This picture was made using the S-type with AF frame, just focusing on the eyes. It really works a lot better. On the other hand the viewfinder becomes very dark using f/3.2 and f/4.0 lenses. But today, I was testing a new scanner and pulled out an old notebook of slide sleeves from pictures I took in Brasil almost 30 years ago and came across this picture of Rio de Janeiro. It's not a great picture and I just happened to be at this location at this time so I can't even claim much intent, but it warmed my heart for a few reasons: 1) For some reason, I didn't originally care enough for the picture to remember taking it. The slide was a little darker than this which is probably the reason. Now I get to rediscover it. 2) It revived a memory. 3) I took it with my first real camera, my Pentax K-1000. Since then I've owned a P-3N, ZX-5N, *ist-D, K-7 and a K-5. I still love that K-1000 most of all even though the K-5 is a much more practical tool for my needs and entertainment now. I still love to hear the shutter of the K-1000. It has such a satisfying mechanical combination of a click and a clunk. The K-1000 now sits, retired, on a shelf over my desk, in a collection of things that are special to me. I bought the camera with a bag, flash and a 50mm/1.8 lens in 1982 from a guy entering journalism school which required everyone to have a specific model of camera. 4) I was too poor for a tripod so I know I took the picture handheld. So, for those of you who still hold that emotional attachment to your K-1000, or LX or ME-Super I'd like to share this oldie from my K-1000. http://thornsberry.smugmug.com/photos/i-6FCN7z5/1/X2/i-6FCN7z5-X2.jpg Kevin -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Only one of mine has the endoscope adapter and it is different to yours - shorter and with the designation AP-K55 so I guess there were different focal length adapters to vary the magnification. A couple of other things - you say it has no focussing screen, but does it have the semi-spherical protrusion below the prism? If I mount a lens on mine I still get a focussed image. Someone else thought it might be a geode, but didn't know for sure -- the heft made him think it probably isn't. So, I figured I'd ask all the smarties in PDML if they had any thoughts. Anything?
