fs friday Asahi Pentax flash AF280T $10

2021-05-07 Thread ann sanfedele

$10.00 plus shipping!

This  Asahi Pentax flash  AF280T  -  tested today on my K-5.  It works!
Would love it if one of you want it so I could save myself taking lots
of photos of it and
all the other stuff ebay is asking of us these days.  Will send by
priority mail in USA for whatever it actually costs - the thing itself
without batteries in it weighs 11 oz..
with good packing that gets it up between 1 and 2 lbs.. You can
calculate shipping from my zip (10003) to yours.

For the fussy - there are a couple of smudges on it so if you need
everything super cosmetically nice dont buy it :-)

Re: P-TTL flash.

2020-04-08 Thread John J Bloomfield
I've been shooting with Godox lighting gear for about 5 years now.

And petitioning them to give full P-TTL support and HSS to Pentax - and was
over the moon when they did.

The TT350p is an awesome little flash in itself (it's a lovely size
physically) and a perfect cost effective gateway in to a system that will
allow you to explore, off camera flash and even studio strobes all on the
same transmission system should you ever want to.

Godox really do provide high quality gear for comparatively cheap prices.
Something to note though their warranty is 'via retailer' you can't go to
them direct so it can be worth paying a little more to get from a reputable
retailer you know will support you down the road. The adorama stuff is
exactly the same as Godox (and communicates file with Godox branded gear
should you mix them later) they just re-brand them I think so that they
know if a unit really came from them if you need to make a warranty claim,
to avoid people trying to scam them.

Go for it - sure you won't regret it.

Kind Regards
John

While doing my research I a flash that's flown completely under my radar.

The Godox TT 350p, also sold by Adorama under the Flashpoint brand.

It looks really good for the money, for about half of the cost of a AF201FG you
get 75% greater output, (than a AT201FG), a claimed 1 - 2.2 second recycle time,
full manual control, a built in radio controller for up to three groups of other
Godox flashes, full Pentax P-TTL compatibility, and unlike the other third party
flashes, at least according to the reviews I've read you don't sacrifice
reliability, (I'm looking at your Yongnuo), or recycle times, (everybody else
except Metz. and if you're buying Metz you might as well be buying Pentax as far
as cost is concerned).

Has anyone else used one of these units, or will I be the first.

I know a number of pro (wedding, portrait & studio) photographers who have
switched to Godox and are quite happy with them. But they're all CaNikon shooters.

http://www.godox.com/EN/Products_Mini_Camera_Flash_TT350P.html

According to the Godox web site it's compatible with 645Z, K-3II, K-1, KP, K-50,
K-S2 & K70. I don't know if if it will work with the K-3 or the K-5, and I still
use my K-3 ... hell, I still occasionally use the K10D & the K20D.

Re: Metz mecablitz 44 AF-2 Digital Flash for Pentax Cameras - any comments?

2018-07-29 Thread Henk Terhell
Mine is the Metz 48 AF-1 digital which has worked fine for a long time
starting with the * istD.
On the K1 it showed incorrect exposure with full blast, until I
discovered there was an firmware update.
Now it's correctly measuring in P-TTL. But I'm using more and more
natural light and brighten shadows in Lightroom.

I had a AF-1 and a AF-2 both failed after a few years due to jammed

I opened one and was shocked by the fragile construction.

Then I decided that I have little advantage from P-TTL and go on with
some old flashes: automatic with their own sensor, no automatic

firmware update to work with the K1 but has a usb port and can be
easily updated. With the update it works fine on the K1.

The not good: The LCD panel stopped illuminating a few months after I
bought the first flash. I assumed it was just switched off (the menus
still appeared on the panel but without back lighting). Metz said it
was defective and offered to repair it under warranty. After several
weeks of waiting for parts they ultimately replaced the flash with a
new one. The new unit developed the same failure within a few months,
and by then the warranty had expired. I can still use the unit I

Given that I had two flashes fail in the same manner I'm skeptical of
Metz's quality. But the flash is feature rich, well designed and

Re: Metz mecablitz 44 AF-2 Digital Flash for Pentax Cameras - any comments?

2018-07-27 Thread P. J. Alling
When looking into a flash, I checked out the Metz and it hits all the
important points except for the in body sensor, such as the Viv 285 uses
or that's available on older Analog Pentax units like the 280t, it's
P-TTL only, but that might not be important enough to care about, unless
you intend to use it on an older film body or the *ist-D as well as a
modern DSLR.

The manual power adjustment is missing 1/8 and 1/16 power settings but
again might not be important to you since the Viv 285 skips at least one
power setting and the 280T has only full and half settings.

In it's favor it's about half the price of the Pentax 360 at B&H right
now and is more powerful.  The user interface looks less fiddly as well.

Metz has a reputation for very high quality flashes.

Re: Windows tech knowledge guys - regarding Adobe Flash HELP

2017-10-05 Thread ann sanfedele
I don't want Wi_FI.    I have a flip phone that is used only for talk
and very occasional text between phones -- no
web access at all. ... I feel cable only connection to the web is safer
- I only go on line from my lovely big Hp desktop.

ands my TV is only a TV -it isn't "smart".

simplify, simplify, simplify :-)

Re: Windows tech knowledge guys - regarding Adobe Flash HELP

2017-10-05 Thread Bruce Walker
Flash is dead. It's in legacy mode and will disappear completely soon
enough. It generally doesn't run at all on mobile devices, and web
browsers have it disabled by default, a pretty strong hint to avoid
using it.

Cue the MP parrot thread ...

It might be a setting in chrome. Flash can be blocked by default,
allowed by default, blocked or allowed per website etc.

clicking this link (when using the chrome web browser) should take you
to chrome's setting for flash.

chrome://settings/content/flash

But pj's link might also solve it for you.

Eric.

You're going to need a really big opener for that can of worms.

It's my experience that it's harder to learn to get good results from a

book "Light, Science and Magic". I'll also suggest that if you can, you
will

want to get the flash off the camera and use radio triggers. The yongnuo
triggers are cheap and reliable. Unfortunately I have not had nearly as
good of luck with their speedlights. The YN560IV is an awesome manual
flash,

for about a month, until it stops working.

I had horrible luck with my fgz540, but other people have had better

am curious about the fgz540-II. I've got a metz 58, and it's

You can use pretty much any modern auto-thyristor flash, if you set the
aperture properly you'll get images pretty much as well exposed as you
would with a fancy P-TTL capable flash. The command interface on a late
model AF280T is even partially supported so in the auto modes it will
set the proper f stop and shutter speed.

I just got a reply from Paul C Buff on this topic:

Hi Larry,
Redesigning the White Lightning to incorporate an LED would be quite
an undertaking and cost several thousands of dollars. At this time are not
looking to do this.
However, you can screw in dimmable LED lamp into the WL modeling socket.

We do not have lengthy data if this LED model lamp will work long term in
our lights. As long and nothing metal on the LED lamp touches the wire
wrapped flash tube the WL will fire. If the metal part of the LED lamp
touches the wire wrapped flash tube the WL will not fire.

Those hot modeling lights are just part of the cost of doing business
with these strobes. I only burn myself once in a while now. :)

The brand new Alien Bees -- called DigiBees -- have built in LED
modeling lights. And they have many Einstein features too. They are
looking great spec-wise, though I have yet to see one in the flesh.

impressive for an LED, strobes put out 10,000,000 lumens.

Thanks Bruce. My guess was that if anyone had done this, it would have
been you. I ended up ordering a 50W version

https://photography.tutsplus.com/tutorials/strobes-or-continuous-lighting-whats-the-better-choice-for-you--photo-14549

However, here's hope. If you drag your shutter you can in fact mix the
two. Background light is one place where I have found that to work.
Usually I use it when mixing strobe with ambient light, but it works
just as well for any continuous light source, tungsten, CFL, LED,
video projectors, etc.

Yup, looking at them for background light, *possibly* rim. I can also
play with turning down the power on the strobe and taking advantage of
the inverse square law.

Worst case, I end up with a colored light to use at parties etc.

I also decided to try an experiment with an LED modeling light in my
strobe. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but the incandescents get
way too bloody hot, so I tried modding a 100W equivalent dimmable LED.
If it works, I'll put one in all of them.

So balance your ISO and aperture and strobe power settings to get your
strobes exposed right, then set your shutter speed to expose for the
background. A couple of passes around the settings will get everything
within useful range. You don't want your shutter speed too low or
you'll get funky rim shadows from motion blur from your subject.

Anybody have experience with LED panels when using studio flash?

2016-10-25 Thread Larry Colen
I often use gelled strobes on black backgrounds to get a colored
background when shooting portraits.
I've also been fighting with panel lights like this in the background
when shooting dance because they're too bright and blow out channels

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GO39ERQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Has anyone tried using them at hot lights for colored background along
with strobes? Are they bright enough?

Re: Pop-Up Flash Doesn't

2016-04-17 Thread Zos Xavius
Your first clue is that you hardly ever use it. Hold the button down
and gently pull on it. Maybe even run it under a bit of water. It is
weather sealed after all. I'm willing to bet that it has just stuck
together. If that button pushes down the release should be engaging.
Even without a spring it should open up. Sometimes I have to pull on
my popup to get it to come up. I should probably not drink coffee
around my cameras. :)

Re: Pop-Up Flash Doesn't

2016-04-17 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
It doesn't pop up at all when I press the button.

If I slip a thin blade between the flash unit and the main body, I
can, with some difficulty, get the flash to open. Once it is open, it
functions normally, with no need to prop it up or anything else. the
spring seems to be intact and functioning.

It is a big PITA to get it up, however, and I am afraid of damaging
the body by inserting a blade.

Given how infrequently I use the pop up flash unit, however, and the
good performance of the K-5 IIs in low light with high ASA, I am very
reluctant to incur the inconvenience and cast of sending out for
repair. I was hoping some one would suggest a "trick" for getting the
button to work again in opening the flash.

Re: Pop-Up Flash Doesn't

That would kind of depend on why it failed to pop up. If the linkage
that releases the retaining hook is broken then there is no way for the
pop up flash to release, short of tearing down the camera. If the
spring is simply broken you can probably prop up the flash with
something and it will probably work.

Pop-Up Flash Doesn't

2016-04-16 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
I almost never use the pop-up flash on the K-5 IIs. I did have a
situation earlier this week, however, when it would have been useful.
I pushed the button, but nothing happened.

I am not inclined to send it out for repair just for the flash.
Anyone have any ideas for a fix (even temporary) that would allow me
to use it when I really need it?

TIA, Dan

I downloaded the PDF user manual, even though it was really difficult.
The link right there on the page wouldn't do anything, so I had to dig
through the website until I found a download link that would work.

I've only read through it three times so far, and I'm not sure if it's
inscrutable or just incomprehensible.

Why don't you give them a try and let us know how they work?

2015-11-06 Thread P.J. Alling
I actually own two Instamatic 500s. Both meters appear to work but
neither is in the least accurate. Sadly I never got to run any film
through either as Ferrania the last manufacturer of 126 cartridges
stopped supplying film about the time I acquired them. They are
beautiful cameras in the form follows function style of their era.

you set the focus range manually (you have to look at the front of the
lens to set the focus range) but then when you put the camera to your
eye you can adjust the aperture (stepless from 2.8 to 22) to the
needle at the bottom of the viewfinder without taking your eye off the
subject. It has a Schneider-Kreuznach 38mm f/2.8 Xenar lens.

This camera also came to me with a roll of film in the camera (which I
had forgotten). It's KodaColor VR-G and it is on exposure 17 of 24.
There is a LabelMaker label on the back with the previous owner's name
(R.Harrigan) and apparently his SSN is scratched on the bottom of the
camera (the only real cosmetic downside to the camera).

Re: PESO: Enablement? Just showing off my new flash unit

2015-11-06 Thread John

Dwayne's Photo in Parsons, KS still does C41, traditional B&W and E-6
processing for 110, 126 and 127 film. They only do C41 processing for
Disc Film.

from one of those last places to still sell them (probably had them
for close to 10 years now). I picked up a couple of 126 cameras to use
them with, too. The best of the bunch is probably a Yashica EX-Matic
Electronic, which is not an altogether unsubstantial camera, with a
Yashinon 37mm f/2.8 lens:
http://vintagecameralab.com/yashica-ezmatic-electronic/

I've probably waited too long to use the film as no one can probably
develop 126 today. In any event, the plan was to preserve the 126 film
case and refill it with 35mm film that I could use in the 126 cameras
to get full-to-the-sprocket-edge images with.

Re: Wireless flash triggers

2015-08-19 Thread Larry Colen
I have, in general, had good luck with the yongnuo manual wireless flash
triggers. The channels work, however flash groups not so much.

I have had miserable luck with their YN560-IV wireless flashes. When
they work, I love them, but after a while they stop working in anything
but full power.

My suspicion is that the metal flash shoes for mounting flashes on
stands cause bad things to happen.

mode. But not in P-TTL.

Does any Pocket Wizard model or other brand support P-TTL?

Thanks for any insights!

There is this; I have no experience with it, but there's a very
informative review from a Pentax user. It sounds a bit cumbersome--you
have to put the receiver over the P-TTL IR receiver on the slave
flash. But apparently it works.

That one Amazon review is the only one I've seen that says it does work
with Pentax P-TTL. All of the other reviews I have found so far say it
only works in manual mode with Pentax P-TTL.

It would be nice if it does, but I'm not going to spend my money until
someone whose opinion I trust can tell me for sure that they've tested
one and it did work with Pentax P-TTL.

When it comes to accessories, there isn't a lot of love for Pentax at
Pentax these days.
