Re: P-TTL flash.
I've been shooting with Godox lighting gear for about 5 years now. And petitioning them to give full P-TTL support and HSS to Pentax - and was over the moon when they did. The TT350p is an awesome little flash in itself (it's a lovely size physically) and a perfect cost effective gateway in to a system that will allow you to explore, off camera flash and even studio strobes all on the same transmission system should you ever want to. Godox really do provide high quality gear for comparatively cheap prices. Something to note though their warranty is 'via retailer' you can't go to them direct so it can be worth paying a little more to get from a reputable retailer you know will support you down the road. The adorama stuff is exactly the same as Godox (and communicates file with Godox branded gear should you mix them later) they just re-brand them I think so that they know if a unit really came from them if you need to make a warranty claim, to avoid people trying to scam them. Go for it - sure you won't regret it. Kind Regards John On Fri, 3 Apr 2020 at 00:08, P. J. Re: Metz mecablitz 44 AF-2 Digital Flash for Pentax Cameras - any comments?
Mine is the Metz 48 AF-1 digital which has worked fine for a long time starting with the * istD. On the K1 it showed incorrect exposure with full blast, until I discovered there was an firmware update. Now it's correctly measuring in P-TTL. But I'm using more and more natural light and brighten shadows in Lightroom. The not good: The LCD panel stopped illuminating a few months after I bought the first flash. I assumed it was just switched off (the menus still appeared on the panel but without back lighting). Re: Metz mecablitz 44 AF-2 Digital Flash for Pentax Cameras - any comments?
When looking into a flash, I checked out the Metz and it hits all the important points except for the in body sensor, such as the Viv 285 uses or that's available on older Analog Pentax units like the 280t, it's P-TTL only, but that might not be important enough to care about, unless you intend to use it on an older film body or the *ist-D as well as a modern DSLR. The manual power adjustment is missing 1/8 and 1/16 power settings but again might not be important to you since the Viv 285 skips at least one power setting and the 280T has only full and half settings. In it's favor it's about half the price of the Pentax 360 at B&H right now and is more powerful. The user interface looks less fiddly as well. Metz has a reputation for very high quality flashes. It might be a setting in chrome. Flash can be blocked by default, allowed by default, blocked or allowed per website etc. clicking this link (when using the chrome web browser) should take you to chrome's setting for flash. chrome://settings/content/flash But pj's link might also solve it for you. It's my experience that it's harder to learn to get good results from a flash, than it is to learn to use a camera. Once again I'll suggest the book "Light, Science and Magic". Re: It's time for a digital flash
You can use pretty much any modern auto-thyristor flash, if you set the aperture properly you'll get images pretty much as well exposed as you would with a fancy P-TTL capable flash. The command interface on a late model AF280T is even partially supported so in the auto modes it will set the proper f stop and shutter speed. While that 30W flood puts out 3000 lumens, and that's impressive for an LED, strobes put out 10,000,000 lumens. Thanks Bruce. My guess was that if anyone had done this, it would have been you. I ended up ordering a 50W version https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GPNXURA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://photography.tutsplus.com/tutorials/strobes-or-continuous-lighting-whats-the-better-choice-for-you--photo-14549 However, here's hope. If you drag your shutter you can in fact mix the two. Background light is one place where I have found that to work. Usually I use it when mixing strobe with ambient light, but it works just as well for any continuous light source, tungsten, CFL, LED, video projectors, etc. Yup, looking at them for background light, *possibly* rim. I can also play with turning down the power on the strobe and taking advantage of the inverse square law. Worst case, I end up with a colored light to use at parties etc. I also decided to try an experiment with an LED modeling light in my strobe. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but the incandescents get way too bloody hot, so I tried modding a 100W equivalent dimmable LED. Usually I use it when mixing strobe with ambient light, but it works just as well for any continuous light source, tungsten, CFL, LED, video projectors, etc. So balance your ISO and aperture and strobe power settings to get your strobes exposed right, then set your shutter speed to expose for the background. A couple of passes around the settings will get everything within useful range. You don't want your shutter speed too low or you'll get funky rim shadows from motion blur from your subject. Re: Pop-Up Flash Doesn't
Your first clue is that you hardly ever use it. Hold the button down and gently pull on it. Maybe even run it under a bit of water. It is weather sealed after all. I'm willing to bet that it has just stuck together. If that button pushes down the release should be engaging. Even without a spring it should open up. Sometimes I have to pull on my popup to get it to come up. I should probably not drink coffee around my cameras. :) On Sun, Apr 17, 2016 at 4:39 AM, Brian Walters wrote: > On Sun, Apr 17, 2016, at 12:11 PM, P.J. Re: Pop-Up Flash Doesn't
It doesn't pop up at all when I press the button. If I slip a thin blade between the flash unit and the main body, I can, with some difficulty, get the flash to open. Once it is open, it functions normally, with no need to prop it up or anything else. the spring seems to be intact and functioning. It is a big PITA to get it up, however, and I am afraid of damaging the body by inserting a blade. Given how infrequently I use the pop up flash unit, however, and the good performance of the K-5 IIs in low light with high ASA, I am very reluctant to incur the inconvenience and cast of sending out for repair. I was hoping some one would suggest a "trick" for getting the button to work again in opening the flash. Re: Pop-Up Flash Doesn't
That would kind of depend on why it failed to pop up. If the linkage that releases the retaining hook is broken then there is no way for the pop up flash to release, short of tearing down the camera. Re: PESO: Enablement? Just showing off my new flash unit
I actually own two Instamatic 500s. Both meters appear to work but neither is in the least accurate. Sadly I never got to run any film through either as Ferrania the last manufacturer of 126 cartridges stopped supplying film about the time I acquired them. They are beautiful cameras in the form follows function style of their era. What I like best about this camera though is that you set the focus range manually (you have to look at the front of the lens to set the focus range) but then when you put the camera to your eye you can adjust the aperture (stepless from 2.8 to 22) to the needle at the bottom of the viewfinder without taking your eye off the subject. It has a Schneider-Kreuznach 38mm f/2.8 Xenar lens. This camera also came to me with a roll of film in the camera (which I had forgotten). It's KodaColor VR-G and it is on exposure 17 of 24. There is a LabelMaker label on the back with the previous owner's name (R.Harrigan) and apparently his SSN is scratched on the bottom of the camera (the only real cosmetic downside to the camera). Glad everyone got "a kick" out of it. Of course, it is just a gag shot. I've got at least one pack of "new in the box" flash cubes around here. I also still have three sealed rolls of 126 film that I bought from one of those last places to still sell them (probably had them for close to 10 years now). I picked up a couple of 126 cameras to use them with, too. The best of the bunch is probably a Yashica EX-Matic Electronic, which is not an altogether unsubstantial camera, with a Yashinon 37mm f/2.8 lens: http://vintagecameralab.com/yashica-ezmatic-electronic/ I've probably waited too long to use the film as no one can probably develop 126 today. In any event, the plan was to preserve the 126 film case and refill it with 35mm film that I could use in the 126 cameras to get full-to-the-sprocket-edge images with. Re: Wireless flash triggers
I have, in general, had good luck with the yongnuo manual wireless flash triggers. The channels work, however flash groups not so much. I have had miserable luck with their YN560-IV wireless flashes. When they work, I love them, but after a while they stop working in anything but full power. My suspicion is that the metal flash shoes for mounting flashes on stands cause bad things to happen. Does any Pocket Wizard model or other brand support P-TTL? But apparently it works. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00946VPBY?tag=ducwhi-20 That one Amazon review is the only one I've seen that says it does work with Pentax P-TTL. All of the other reviews I have found so far say it only works in manual mode with Pentax P-TTL. It would be nice if it does, but I'm not going to spend my money until someone whose opinion I trust can tell me for sure that they've tested one and it did work with Pentax P-TTL. -- Science - Questions we may never find answers for.
