Re: OT: PESOs - Yellow Aloes

2020-06-30 Thread John
I've seen it occasionally & I have a Flickr account. It should also have a
countdown until it will display the photo whenever that ad page pops up.

For some reason it doesn't display the photo (for me) when the timer expires & I
have to scroll right manually ... which means sometimes I then have to scroll
back to see the photo.

I've only seen it since Flickr got sold to SmugMug.

alan - I get a pause between photos when I scroll to the right .. just a black

don't mind that black screen at all. Haven't seen that on the post of others who
are in the US and link to their photos.  Curious

Yes, chaps, you're right.

Unfortunately the old P is rather limited & I wasn't going to risk
myself or my crown jewels in such an unsavoury location.

To me the scene was simply a breath of fresh air amongst all the tar,
cement, hustle & bustle.

Anyway still playing with it and here are 3 shots taken recently. I
set them up in flicker and photo net but at least in flicker i can
figure out how to get a dam url. I think i'll be dropping my photo net

OT PESOs - Horseshoe Shears (revised)

2014-10-23 Thread Brian Walters

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.

I had a go at cloning out the branch but the right hand side became
very bland and I couldn't get a crop I liked.

Next I tried adding a bit more light to the window and shears and
toning down the branch via a levels adjustment along the lines Paul
suggested.

Better? Worse?

I also tried a BW conversion but I'm not all that keen on it:

Totally missed this the first time around - Like both original and
revision - slight pref for the revised - the branch is part of it

can't imagine wwhy you would clone it out.. OTOH this would also work
for me with a quite tight crop on just the window and a small bit of the
frame - with interesting stuff as you have here, a lot of variations

would work.. I love rusty old things

Me too.

I didn't really want to clone out the branch but the consensus of
comments on the original was that it was a distraction. I like its
texture which is why I didn't move it before taking the photo.

I played around with a crop similar to what you suggested but the
resulting aspect ratio wasn't appealing to my eye.

Thanks for looking - thanks too Alan, Bob and Jack

OT PESOs - Boyfriend series

My photopal and I were talking about photo series. She is working on a
wonderful one that seems to have limitless possiblities, with the added

Perched is quite funny as well. Pink umbrella is nice too. As to the

But thanks for the clearer view!

Just to be clear: the bezel (ring around the outside) rotates and changes the

you would expect to be able to read it from behind the camera.

When I first got one on my MZ-S I just thought of it as a fairly obvious
modern-day equivalent of the little cut-out windows on some older bodies
(often used for things like film rating; sometimes for shutter speed).
There's no reason why the LCD display needs to be separate from the dial
when there's only one dial; on the PZ-1p, of course, the single display
serves two thumbwheels.

Must be one of them fancy-schmancy Melbourne terms then. A music
festival will be doing the rounds this summer in laneways in the

The first two pages of a GOOGLE SEARCH refer almost exclusively to
Melbourne, with Sydney getting a passing mention.

Wikipedia has nothing, just refers you to lanes.

But the Deer Industry Association of Australia says:
A laneway system has three possible functions. It should be designed
to facilitate stock and farm machinery movement. It can be used as a
holding area for stock or it can be designed to be used as a paddock
as well as a laneway.

There are no rules governing the size, length, shape or positions of
the laneways. The design of a laneway system will depend on the
topography of your farm, the position of your yards, waterways, trees,
other uses of the laneway and the type of vehicle used for mustering.
In other words, it has to be part of your whole farm plan.

The laneway concept evolved through a need to move stock quickly and
efficiently. If you need to work with the mob furthest from the yards,
and you do not have a laneway, you're in trouble. Can you imagine
trying to bring a mob of animals, let alone deer, through five other
paddocks, three of which already have other mobs in them?

Which leads me to suppose that the term has been moved into Aussie
slang to denote an alley. No mention of the Poms.

I really like that BW shot from the Holga. The laneway shot is cool, too.

Not an Aussie term, it's a proper' English name for a narrow road or
 access/service road.

The Poms use the term more than us.

You're kidding me. That's the first time I've ever seen that word. But
then again, I did grow up in the USA and I don't get out very
 much it's
 true ;-)

I've never heard it called a laneway either. It's an alley, snicket or
ginnel. Lanes are in the country, not the town.

 Bob

Must be one of them fancy-schmancy Melbourne terms then. A music
festival will be doing the rounds this summer in laneways in the capital
cities, including Sydney - argh, another Melbourne import.

Warning - once you click on one of the city links, music blares.

Thanks for all the comments.

Laughingly cheesy camera, but for the price, it gives good fun value.

Laneways in Sydney are being developed as entertainment precincts, based
on the model in Melbourne. We aren't there yet, but this is a good start

Now there is a news flash! Sydney adopting something based on a
Melbourne model?!?

Nice shot. A bit of tension there from not knowing the rest of the
story - I can't tell whether the woman on the right is oblivious and
about to take a fall after putting her long stiletto heel through the
water grate, or if she has gauged her stride and is going to casually
step over the hazard... I can't understand how women can even walk in
such shoes much less be able to navigate normal hazards like this.

Now there's a bit o'slang from down under I've not heard before.

Is that the same as an alley, or does something about it designate it
laneway.

In our big cities this is where you get mugged. A bit further out in
the near urban neighborhoods it's where the trash is picked up.
