Yeah, just one, the busiest one, in my office studio. I had to expel all the software ref manuals (Photoshop, et al) out of it to make enough room for the "pure" photobooks. Of course the 3-vol set of Exotique (1950's fetish magazine) is a bit suspect as a pure photobook. ;) I guess it will have to find a special shelf. I also take up a shelf in the livingroom and one in the main library. I only started collecting a few years ago, and I still limit myself to subjects of specific interest for new books. My used book pusher generally sells me anything that is brought in, so I have some great stuff by Kertesz, the Ansel Adams "bible", etc. -- -bmw -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

I received mine in Mississauga on Tuesday afternoon. Was busy and only now have I had a good proper read of it. It sets the bar higher: great design -- the best yet -- and terrific photos. The editorial text is sobering but inspirational. I admit that I miss the playfulness and slightly wonky random fun of a couple of the earlier editions, but the obligatory guest cormorant is there and there are, of course, the quotations, as droll as ever. According to the tracking number, mine arrived at the FedEx facility in Troutdale, OR at 4:56am this morning. Google Maps says it will take them about 43 hours for a truck to reach Raleigh (RTP). I don't figure they're going to drive straight through. It will probably get delivered to various regional hubs along the way to be unloaded reloaded onto a truck going to the next closest regional hub. It's promised for May 28. If it gets here a day or so early that's good. A day or so late might not be so good. Re: PDML book 2014 - Let me know when you get your copy
Arrived, via Holland and Germany. The usual excellent work from all parties. Bought the dustcover version this time but I think I prefer the imagewrap. Also not sure if I prefer a fixed design or the new look every year. There hasn't been a bad one yet and, as it's someone else's hard work, I am emphatically not complaining. However. next year, I _insist_ on being a proofreader. Multiple quotes from Bill Robb I can tolerate; duplicate ones. If it were available I might buy the Premium version. But would you need to do “a limited run”? Can’t you just specify that one purchase option should be Premium? I know that some Blurb options require that at least one copy of a given version must be purchased within x weeks of your upload; I’ll commit to buying a copy if that is what you are looking at… stan On 4 May 2014, at 14:11, Mark Roberts postmas...@robertstech.com wrote: Blurb has several options for paper quality in their books. If sales fall short of $500 the difference will be on me (this is pretty much how it works out every year, actually: we make $400-$450 and I round up to $500 with my own donation). My wife's oatmeal cookie recipe is very low on sugar and with more crunchiness than most such recipes. If sales fall short of $500 the difference will be on me (this is pretty much how it works out every year, actually: we make $400-$450 and I round up to $500 with my own donation). If we go over $500 I'll spent the extra on cookies and beer (just kidding - I'll donate that as well). Just wanted to post the latest on the 2013 PDML Photo Annual. The submission period ended some time back and now we're in the traditional trying to coax/cajole/plead with the editors to get their votes in on the photos that we'll be using. Nothing different there :) What is new is that a couple of weeks ago I received a mailing from Dana-Farber about a promotion/incentive that seemed interesting: An anonymous millionaire (most likely) supporter of theirs has agreed to match (that is, effectively double) every donation they receive before March 15. I emailed the Powers That Be to ask if we could take advantage of this while still directing our donation to the Global Health Initiative - since the PDML is an international group I feel quite strongly that our donation should go to a program with international scope. Friday I received the reply that we could definitely direct our donation to the Global Health Initiative but not the matching funds that come from the anonymous donor. I suppose it's not ideal but it's certainly nothing to sneeze at: We raise $500.00 (about what our annual donation comes to), it still goes to the international program we support, and an extra five hundred bucks magically goes to their cancer research in general. What's not to like? Well, the deadline, of course. We haven't even finished putting the book together at this point, much less sold any copies, and the deadline's four days away. So here's my plan: I'll write them a check for $500.00 when I meet with them on Friday so we get the matching donation. I'll apply the book sales toward my $500 as they come in. If sales fall short of $500 the difference will be on me (this is pretty much how it works out every year, actually: we make $400-$450 and I round up to $500 with my own donation). If you buy the hardcover with dust jacket version of the book (not the ImageWrap) you get bonus photos on the inner flaps of the dust jacket, one by Rick Womer and one by Carl Gjersem. More information: I want to express my appreciation to all who donated to the book promotional fund. Most people contributed $5.00 and we got $340.00 total. With the 10% volume discount and the 25% GMA discount (yes, Blurb allowed both discounts) I was able to order a dozen books for the price of 10, including shipping costs. I think there's even a bit left over in the kitty to allow me postage money for sending *out* review copies when I get them. I'm looking for suggestions/ideas for promotion. Print magazine reviews are pretty much out of the question: They already get more review samples than they have time for and we'd be just an tiny fish in a big sea (unless we can get someone on the inside to help - anyone owed any favors by low people in high places?) I'm also offering the ebook version on line for $6.00 through my own web site at the moment. I've worked out a deal to offer it through the Apple iTunes store through one of their official distributors, but I won't be able to finish the paperwork and details until the end of the semester - things are getting busy now. Not only doesn't it strip out everyting below someones signature line but I sometimes do that manually myself... I couldn't find anything specific to Netscape 7, but Thunderbird (as of 2008) stripped off anything after a proper signature delimiter, with no way to change that behavior: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=39t=623725start=0 Note that a proper delimiter consists of two hyphens and a space, and the PDML list signature follows that convention. But 'tis a convention more honored in the breach these days, so when you find yourself stripping signatures by hand, it may be because the sender's software does not use the proper delimiter. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- Dan Matyola http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/danieljmatyola -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
