Re: Pentax Photo Gallery

2019-10-29 Thread ann sanfedele
I haven't submitted more in the last week or so  but I've been voting
every couple of days - my annoyance is their catagorization of my main
interests as to subject matter. Being largely based on what I had had
previously accepted from how people voted as opposed to what I submitted
overall  a few years ago.

I'd prefer "eclectic". sigh

All of my submissions have been processed, even the 60+ left over from

the appropriate categories.

Before the hiatus, there was never a time when i noted all the submissions
had been processed; the backlog was generally a couple of months. It
appears Ricoh is taking the gallery seriously.
There have, however, been no new additions to the Premier Collection, which
had always been one of my favorite aspects of the gallery.

The PPG is certainly not perfect, but it is the best we have at this point.
I agree about your comment on the PPG favoring images with "pop" and
"sizzle." I submitted one of my favorite images, a study of the texture of
tree bark. It was rejected. I submitted it again, and it was rejected

I am just curious as to who else is submitting and voting on images in the
PPG, now that it is reactivated, and what kind of experiences you are
having there.

Overall, the "new" gallery is very nice, but I don't understand how Ricoh
is handling the submissions process.

Since the gallery was reactivated, I have had 3 submissions approved, and
none declined.

I had about 60 images in the "Pending Photos" queue, all submitted between
March and June of 2018, and none of those has been processed. I submitted
two on Sep 23, and both were approved in about a week. I submitted 13 on
Sep 25, none of which has been processed. I submitted one on October 11,
which was approved in less than two days. I submitted two more on Oct.
16,

neither of which have yet been processed.

It appears they are ignoring submissions from 2018, although they all
still

appear in the "Pending Photos" folder. The process for approving recent
submissions seems almost random.

Quite curious.

A few updated comments on the PPG:

1. Voting. I am spending as much time voting as possible, but the
backlog appears infinite. I think some of the images have come around for
a second time, and I try to skip over those the second time. There were
quite a few new ones this morning, however.

2. Uploads. The upload system is working quite well, although, despite
the instructions, it allowed me to upload more than five right at the start.

3. Approvals/Rejections. I have not had any of my images uploaded last
year approved or rejected since the system went back up. Has anyone else
had any images processed and approved or rejected?

4. Order of images. Until yesterday, all the images in my gallery were
sorted with the oldest image first. This made it extremely difficult to
tell im any were approved, as I had to scroll all the way down. Now, the
most recent images are at the head of each queue. This is much more
convenient.

5. Premiere Collection. There have been no additions to this excellent
gallery of images since the gallery became active again.

Anyone else have any comments or recent experiences to share?

Just a SWAG, but maybe they won't let you delete a lens from your gear list if

Hard to say. That's why I am trying to vote on as many images as possible,

Re: Pentax Photo Gallery

2019-09-27 Thread John
If I remember, the approval process required a certain number of "members" to
vote the images in. How is that affected by the Gallery having been down for so
long and probably most "members" having moved on and are not aware the Gallery
is back in operation?

Do you think enough "members" are back to viewing new submissions to constitute
a voting quorum?

Have you tried indicating that you need to update your password on the
log-in page?
They never recognized my user ID or password until I asked to reset my
password. They sent a link to my email I used to establish the account,
and that let me "update" my user name and password.
After that, everything worked fine.

Re: Pentax Photo Gallery - Revived?

2019-09-24 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
In general, the new gallery seems to function well, perhaps better than the
old gallery.
A few quirks I find a bit inconvenient:

1. When you log in and look at your own gallery, you can see the image
titles, but not if you are not logged in or are looking at someone else's
gallery. (I like the titles; sometimes they explain the image.)

2. The old galleries had the newest images at the top, and the oldest at
the end. This starts with the oldest images (except for some unknown
reason, they put 3 random images from 2011 ahead of my 2009 images, which
are nicer!) This means I have to scroll all the way to the bottom to see if
anything has changed.

3. In the "All" gallery view, there is no indication if an image is
approved, Pending or rejected.

4. No new entries in the Premiere Collection. If they add to that, that
would be an indication that someone from Ricoh is actually looking at the
images and evaluating them.

All in all, I am just glad it is back.

submissions and submits a few nes images, that will let Ricoh know that
there is an active community out here, not only for the PPG, but also for

It's in the upper right of the GREY area, just above the 3rd artist on the top
row (I see three across when I click on Artists).

It's just a small banding box the same color as the background - Grey on Grey.

You come up when I search for you, but a search for "Dan Matyola" returns
"Sorry, No Artists Found".

Re: Pentax Photo gallery

2018-05-22 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
The Pentax Photo Gallery is back online, and appears to be functioning
normally. Both Bong and I have been able to log in and access the images.

The approval process is now almost 7 months behind. I don't think that is
explained by a smaller pool of voters, because the pool of submitters would
also have decreased proportionately. I think it is a case of benign
neglect by Ricoh.

For the time being, I shall continue to submit and vote, even though I
suspect the gallery's days are numbered.

Re: Pentax Photo gallery

2018-05-20 Thread Brian Walters
I'm getting a time-out as well. I think I last checked in late April when it
was working OK.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ricoh is getting ready to pull the plug - they lost
interest in it years ago and, I think, many users have too. I last submitted
images in 2016 when it look 6-8 weeks for approvals to come through. I
understand it can now take 5-6 months which is a pretty clear indication that
not many are voting.

Ricoh's lack of interest can be seen by no additions to the Premier Collection
for several years - surely there would have been some contributions worth
including during that time - and I think Kerrick James has been the Featured
Artist for well over a year.

Last time I looked, the K-1 and KP weren't even included in the cameras list.

It's a pity but I think the PPG's time has passed - even if the server comes
back on line.

Cheers

Hm.
Been several years since I logged on. Tried to connect by various means,
and had some online tools look for the server by its IP address, but to
no avail. Nothing wrong with the address space, queries to the server
are routed through the traffic junctions one would expect. I think it's
the particular server that's offline. Since there's no press statement

If they can demonstrate that they own the trademark for Pentax and
that pentaxphotogallery.com could potentially cause confusion (which
is obviously can, since Pentax used that in the past) it's a slam

Mark,

While, yes, it would be pointless trying to get pentax.com,
but I am not quite sure that Ricoh/Pentax has rights to all and any
derivatives of the word "pentax".
I suspect, it is a rather gray legal area, especially, if the owner would
not be using it for commercial or derogative purposes with respect to the
trademark.

So, if it were only $15-20, as for a regular domain registration, I
would've bought it, just to see what happens... Paying $69.99+ (or more
likely 100+) is already getting too much for this type of fun.

I am not D.T.

Cheers,

Some years ago I forgot the password to my domain and also failed to
update the contact email. When my then ISP was purchased the email had
changed, with no forwarding. I was unable to take any action with
regards to my domain. While it was inconvenient to get the account email
changed - required having to send a notarized form to the registrar - it
was not too difficult. It did take a few weeks for the registrar to move
things along though. In my case I had plenty of time till the domain
expired so it did not matter.

So I'm going to send the info to that administrator's email address

when the only two contacts that are associated with the domain are no

It is a common oversight to forget to update the email addresses

And no, it wouldn't be sufficient for Ricoh to follow the link to renew.
They need to have the login/password information for the account(s) used to
register/maintain the domain.
(Otherwise, anybody would've been able to take it over.)
If those are lost, restoring those can take days if not weeks.

I think the quickest way for the current admin to fix this would be to
tell their email admin to recreate an email account for
khoi.t...@prac.pentax.com and point any mail that goes to that address
to go to the new administrator. That way he can reset the GoDaddy
password, etc. Once he is in, he can renew the domain. I've made the
suggestion via email to the current admin (who apparently lives in
Georgia). I've also expressed my interest in an I.T. job with Ricoh

nominal $1,500 fee.

Re: Pentax Photo Gallery

2015-07-20 Thread Darren Addy
I called and talked with someone in Marketing who thanked me for the info.
Khoi Tran was also formerly associated with this domain:
ricohimagingrewards.com but I see that that has been updated to a new
ricoh-usa.com email address.
So I'm going to send the info to that administrator's email address
also. I'm sure they will take corrective action, but it is difficult
when the only two contacts that are associated with the domain are no
longer with your company. However, I'm sure it has happened before and
GoDaddy can get it figured out with them.

Re: Pentax Photo Gallery

2015-07-20 Thread Darren Addy
Even after the domain expires, there is a period of time that the
original owner can renew the domain, so it is not available to be
picked up by just anybody until that time frame expires. The two email
addresses associated with the domain record are:
carolyn.hass...@prac.pentax.com and khoi.t...@prac.pentax.com.

It is a common oversight to forget to update the email addresses
associated when a company buys and changes the root domain. It is
quite possible that "prac.pentax.com" no longer exists. Hopefully the
email administrator for ricohimaging.com was smart enough to forward
emails to those address to someone who still works for the company.
Carolyn is no longer with Ricoh, according to her LinkedIn page:
https://www.linkedin.com/pub/carolyn-hassell/7/470/7a8
Neither is Khoi Tran:
https://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=86680095&authType=NAME_SEARCH&authToken=SpCm&locale=en_US&srchid=3023767781437428763772&srchindex=1&srchtotal=1&trk=vsrp_people_res_name&trkInfo=VSRPsearchId%3A3023767781437428763772%2CVSRPtargetId%3A86680095%2CVSRPcmpt%3Aprimary%2CVSRPnm%3Atrue

Someone should post the info on Ricoh's Facebook page or this could
easily slip between the cracks.

Dan, have you tried to follow the link to buy it?
It is not straight forward. You cannot just "buy" that domain. You can
submit an offer to the owner (according to GoDaddy), and that would cost
$69+commission fee (whatever it is). ... And maybe some more..

And no, it wouldn't be sufficient for Ricoh to follow the link to renew.
They need to have the login/password information for the account(s) used
to register/maintain the domain.

(Otherwise, anybody would've been able to take it over.)
If those are lost, restoring those can take days if not weeks.
... and may not even be successful, depending on how strict and stubborn
GoDaddy support/rules are.

You can click on the jpegs in the list, while looking at the image in

Then, you can either use "Save as" (if you need to save your image),

Hi Brian,

1. What I do is open the photo then click on the "i" at the upper
right corner of the photo.
2. Then I select the envelope (email) which opens a pop-up.
3. Then I select the gmail option in the bottom (More...) but that's
because I am on gmail.
4. That opens another tab for a new message in gmail giving a link...
5. Cut and paste...

I know...too much work :-| I've tried sending myself an email at step

Well, I certainly don't think my image was the best submitted that

at least one a bit more artistic. I don't know whether it is random
