That's the list with the most active translators, so, feel free to discuss

Re: [PHP-DOC] VCS Account Request: malukenho

2013-08-08 Thread Klaus Silveira
The pt_BR breaks easily because of the huge gap between the latest en
version and the pt_BR one. If you are really interested in helping, you
should read this article:

https://wiki.php.net/doc/translations/pt_br

This not only teaches you how to contribute to the brazilian translation,
but also defines the current focus of the translation. Translating one or
two files in separate books is not really useful to anyone. We have to
dedicate ourselves to the synchronization of the current books and most
critical articles, in order to stabilize the build and allow more
translators to join the group.

If you are really interested in making a difference and helping the group,
you can discuss within the group list and ask what's the current focus,
who's working on which book, why the current version of the build is
broken, what was the latest commit, etc, etc.

I'm also in favor of moving to Git. The amount of contributions to the
brazilian portuguese translation would be much more significant if we had a
streamlined contribution system, which pull requests on Github allow quite
easily. What are the current problems of Git migration?

The thing that you don't understand is how the pt_BR is outdated and out of
sync. It is truly volatile and hacked-together. Some commits were made just
to fix missing references, instead of syncing the whole affected document.
Recently we had updates to the cURL extension and the build broke due to
missing references. Same happened when SimpleXML was updated. Also, our
build tends to break with apparently harmless EN updates.

Even though cURL isn't changed frequently, there's a 2 or 3 year gap
between EN and pt_BR. This applies for lot's of documents in pt_BR. We're
currently fixing this, but "language" and "security" are much more
important than "reference" right now.

[PHP-DOC] Re: [DOC-PT-BR] Re: [PHP-DOC] SVN Account Request: kinncj

2012-07-09 Thread Klaus Silveira
pt_BR is completely out of sync with EN, making the entire translation
effort volatile. The current focus of the translation is syncing "language"
and "security", as well other crucial parts. "reference" is our last
priority right now.

If someone syncs "reference", either cURL or any other part of the
reference, the chance that the build will break due to non-existing
entities or references is huge. If we focus on crucial parts of the manual
that are outdated, this chance is almost none. This minimizes the effort of
the entire translation group. Accepting patches blindly and thinking any
commit is good has caused the mess that pt_BR encounters itself right now.

2012-07-09 Thread Klaus Silveira
Yes, you can. You can apply patches sent by users of the online editor, as
long as you credit them. However, read the translation rules before any
commit: http://wiki.php.net/doc/translations/pt_br. The most important rule
is: TEST before commiting.

You should also read, and follow, the docs manual:
https://wiki.php.net/doc/howto. And make sure your local build is synced
with both EN and pt_BR. The patches currently awaiting for approval in the
online editor have been rejected since they break the build and are not
following the translation rules.

By the way, cURL is not the focus of pt_BR right now.

Re: [PHP-DOC] Join the Documentation Team

Hello Vanildo,

First off all, you need to understand how the documentation works.
Please, take a look at those pages before getting your hands dirty:

http://doc.php.net/php/dochowto/
https://wiki.php.net/doc/editor

After reading those, you can start using the online editor to submit
your translations: https://edit.php.net/

The official mailing list of the brazilian portuguese documentation team is
phpdoc-pt...@lists.php.net. You should get in touch with us if you need
anything. Also, we're currently re-organizing the translation and you might
hear some news pretty soon.

[PHP-DOC] Syncing your translation with the EN build

2012-03-21 Thread Klaus Silveira
Dear maintainers,

I have a tricky question that you guys might be able to help by sharing
your experiences. The pt_BR build of the PHP documentation is very
obsolete. There are a lot of files that don't exist anymore in the EN build
and lot's of files from the current EN missing from the pt_BR build. Not
only the references are obsolete, the actual files are missing or should be
removed. Is there a quick way of syncing the two again, so we can start
working on a more stable and updated pt_BR build?

I'm using Meld to compare the two folders, en and pt_BR. Do you guys have
any similar workflow? Ideas? Experiences? Thanks! :)

ps.: I'm talking about years old desynchronization. Some files and
references have been manually synced, but the entire manual is messy.

There are many parts of the documentation that could use clear examples in
*code*, specially extensions like SSH and LDAP.

[PHP-DOC] Docs offline?

2012-01-23 Thread Klaus Silveira
I just noticed that the documentation is offline, as well the main PHP.net
news. Is this a major problem? How can we help?

Re: [PHP-DOC] Documentation access

2012-01-22 Thread Klaus Silveira
First off all, you need to understand how the documentation works. Please,
take a look at those pages before getting your hands dirty:

http://doc.php.net/php/dochowto/
https://wiki.php.net/doc/builds
https://wiki.php.net/doc/phd
https://wiki.php.net/doc/editor

After reading those, you can start using the online editor to submit your
translations as an anonymous contributor. After a few good patches, you can
request an SVN account if you want to do work that the editor does not
allow you to do.

Re: [PHP-DOC] Error in pt-BR translation. Need help!

2011-11-14 Thread Klaus Silveira
The pt_BR translation build WAS broken in the last SVN revision. I have
submitted a patch that fixed the build. However, i believe that this
reported failure might be a bug in the edit.php.net, since there's nothing
wrong in the build. I have also checked the DE translation build.

Re: [PHP-DOC] Quality assurance in documentation translation

2011-11-11 Thread Klaus Silveira
I have implemented a small CI for my translation efforts on the pt_BR
build, using Jenkins. So far, so good. I'm messing around with some of the
scripts in available in doc-base, but some of their output has to be
customized in order to actually provide useful information for Jenkins.

I believe that a full Jenkins-based CI for the official documentation and
it's translations would be great, however, be prepared for some very
intensive processes. It's going to be hard on the servers.

to control the quality of the documentation build. Are those tests run by

[PHP-DOC] Patch for the broken documentation build (pt_BR translation)

Well, the current build of the pt_BR translation is broken. After messing

build has been broken for weeks now, maybe months. This is terrible for
people who want to contribute, since it looks like the translation is
abandoned. There are also many anonymous commits waiting/begging to be
analyzed.

Can anyone please step up and help? No one answered the last emails in the

translations or the official doc team. Thanks in advance, guys!
