[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC and multiple copies of mplayer

2005-11-01 Thread danco

This has been raised before, but I thought it was time to bring it up
again. I'm still using AlienBBC 0.98, so maybe it has been solved.
Using Mac OS X Tiger.

I mostly use Listen Again, not Listen Live. If I listen to a programme
through to its end then the two copies of mplayer used will quit.

But if I choose to stop the stream, or if it stops of its own accord
due to dropouts (which I had in the past, but seem to have cured by
changing the channel) then the copies of mplayer remain running. My
record, at a time when the stream kept dropping, was eighteen copies of
mplayer.

If it isn't really hard to deal with, it would be useful to ensure that
mplayer quits, at least if the stream stops because I have stopped it -
I realise that dealing with spontaneous stops may be harder.

I think that this sort of technology would be a fantastic add-in to
 SlimServer.

This functionality is covered by existing open source projects such as
http://www.asterisk.org/ and http://www.pingtel.com/ therefore it may
be easier to interface these applications with Slimserver rather than
reinvent the wheel within Slimserver code.

For the icons selection pulldown, something like no or do not show

This occurs when I try and force install as well.

Can anyone give me a primer on how to resolve this issue.

Thanks in advance.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Last.FM plugin

2005-11-01 Thread ceejay

OK, here we go again! Tried new version 1.0.0. Works nicely for about
22 minutes, then stops (probably my network glitching again).

Some slightly odd behaviour before it restarted: log file, with some
annotation, attached here.

I guess the main problem is that with streaming stopped, the plugin
carries on regardless. I think you've said this is tricky to spot as
the failure notifcation never gets to the plugin, but I noticed two
things - one, there is a failed detetction, and two, there is the
giveaway that the track progress keeps going up till it goes beyond
track duration, at which point you might fairly deduce there is a
problem.

Anyway, I kicked it a few times with play and it did restart (playing
nicely now) so we're not doing too badly here!

Many thanks again...

Hi Ceejay,
I haven't seen the progress duration for quite some time! That used to
happen a lot...
I can put in a check that detects this overrun and produces a warning
(although your ears will already have detected this problem),
but I don't really want to start automatically restarting the stream.
I don't believe any of the other internet radio plugins/services do this
so I think it's the correct behaviour.

Are you trying to restart playback from the LastFM player menu?
I'm not sure this will do anything at all if the plugin thinks streaming

This could be the cause of the ignored commands!
Although it looks like you managed to start playback from the plugin

[SlimDevices: Plugins] mplayer and realaudio problems (AlienBBC 0.99, slimserver 6.2)

2005-11-01 Thread bklaas

I'm trying to enable realaudio streams on slimserver 6.2 using
AlienBBCv0.99, mplayer 1.0_pre7-r1 and win32codecs installed on a
Gentoo Linux machine. I did a slimserver.pl --d_plugin, along with the
--really-quiet flag turned off in slimserver-convert.conf, and the
output shows me that it's got some issues loading codecs.

the first error I get looks like this:
opening shared obj '/opt/RealPlayer/codecs/sipr.so.6.0'
Error: /opt/RealPlayer/codecs/sipr.so.6.0: cannot open shared object
file: No such file or directory
opening win32 dll 'sipr.so.6.0'
Win32 LoadLibrary failed to load: sipr.so.6.0,
/usr/lib/win32/sipr.so.6.0, /usr/local/lib/win32/sipr.so.6.0

poking around my directories, I see I have
/opt/RealPlayer/codecs/sipr.so, and /usr/local/lib/win32/sipr.so.6.0,
but no sipr.so.6.0 in the /opt dir. I did a symlink of sipr.so.6.0 to
the dir it wanted, but then I get this:

Opening audio decoder: [realaud] RealAudio decoder
opening shared obj '/opt/RealPlayer/codecs/sipr.so.6.0'
Decoder init failed, error code: 0x8004000F
ADecoder preinit failed :(
ADecoder init failed :(

lots of errors past that point too, but want to take it one step at a
time...any ideas out there?

FWIW, the stream I'm trying to play works fine with RealPlayer10 for
linux, but I haven't gotten it to work with mplayer from the
command-line.

here is the full output from slimserver:

Hi ,
i´ve registered on LastFM just today.

I´m playing it from a SlimServer on Windows XP ( without SlimScroler ,
and no Perl module added neither ).

At the begining ( before the first connection ) my Slimserver could´nt
connect , then i stop the play and go into LastFM with the Web Interface
( throught the PC ). After that , i stopped the Web Interface , and then
... the Slimserver connected right and bring me up a useful menu.

I´ve detected that when you´re connected and registered trought the PC
you can not obtain detailed information throught the Slim Server Web
Interface ( but it sounds anyway ) .

I guess I'm not really bothered about automatically restarting, as long
as I can easily restart by pressing play (or something). I was trying
to restart using the remote (actually softsqueeze) interface, but as you
say if the plugin thinks its working it will ignore me.

How about a behaviour such that when the plugin thinks that the stream
has stopped (eg progress duration) it displays a message along the
lines of Contact lost - press play to restart ? Then at least it can
be expecting the command to restart and not just ignoring me!! To be
honest, I'm not quite sure what I did that eventually got it going, I
just pushed buttons.

As it happens, while typing this in, its just stopped again (90 mins
playing this time), and again theres nothing in the log to show theres
anything wrong.

On the remote menu, going back to LastFM - and pressing play took
me into the now playing mode ((showed last track name), pressing play
again caused an attempted reconnection (which failed), pressing play the
third time caused another attempted reconnection (which worked).

I think this may be exactly the same as last time, as captured in the
log file I posted, so I won't post another one.

Hope this helps...

Beyond your current plans of caller ID support, you could turn this
into an answering machine. Capture messages for unanswered calls
to a file, display on the SB that messages are waiting, and play
them back through any SB in the house.

This sort of technology could also allow different greeting messages
to the answer phone depending on who is calling!

I agree, it was really the integration with Slimserver that I
thought would be useful.

When I get a suitable modem I'll play with asterix/pingtel and
see how it works. I'm probably too much of a novice at perl to
handle the plug-in myself though.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: New addon anouncement - Incoming phone call display

2005-11-01 Thread mrfantasy

I'll have to try this--I got callerID working with ncid
(http://ncid.sourceforge.net/) and a program that posts to the HTTP
interface of my SlimServer. I wrote it up at
http://chairthrower.org/blog/?p=23 and
http://chairthrower.org/blog/?p=22.

It may be worth modifying this program to be a callout option for
ncid--I'm using ncid to serve clients that do popup on my Windows PC
and as well I'm getting logging of all my incoming calls. ncid also
handles all the modem stuff so you don't have too. I'll take a look at
it.

Can you take a look in ~/.cpan/build/Pod-Simple-3.02 and see if there is a
Makefile.PL in the directory?

Also, can you open up another terminal window and type 'which make'? On my
machine it returns /usr/bin/make (I am running 10.3.9 on my slimserver
machine, my Tiger machine is currently being repaired, so I cant check if
things are different under 10.4.x) Then, in the cpan shell, type 'o conf'
and see if the make line matches the which output.

Can't think of anything else right off...

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: AlienBBC and multiple copies of mplayer

2005-11-01 Thread danco

OK, so it is a Mac problem, not a Unix one.

Perhaps a little odd, given the Unix base of Mac OS X, and that
mplayer.sh is quite a simple script.

I'll ask in some of the Mac conferences to see if anyone can spot a
problem with the shell script.

What debugging assistance can I give? If you tell me what to try, I'll
do what I can.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] New plugin called WeatherSaver

2005-11-01 Thread yzf600

I just wrote a new plugin called WeatherSaver. Here is a description:

This screensaver expands upon the basic time and date screensaver and
adds the current weather observations. It uses the XML current
observation data from www.weather.gov. Just login to the website and
find your state and nearest observation point code. Enter this code
into the plugin settings of the server.

On the 1st line, the plugin displays the time (HH:MM) and date (in logn
format). On the 2nd line the observation (clear, rain, fog, partly
cloudy), temperature in F, and either windchill or heatindex are
displayed. The plugin will fetch weather data according to the fetch
interval defined by the weather station you choose to monitor. Most
stations seem to be set for 60 minute polling interval.

To download the plugin, visit :

http://yzf600.dns2go.com/slimplugs.html

Let me know if you have any problems with it. If you have any
suggestions for improvements, let me know.

I'm thinking of these new features in the next release:

1) option to display F or C (currently only F is supported)
2) allow user to specify something besides windchill or heatindex. In
my week of testing, it seems that only 3 fields can be displayed
without scrolling. I'd prefer to keep it that way. There are many items
available for display. Check out the XML page for your weather station
for a list of all observations.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Last.FM plugin

2005-11-01 Thread Xhorder

FWIW, my experience with 1.0.0:

I still have to press Play twice to get the stream to start. The first
time, I just get the Song Title LastFM with the VU meters all at the
bottom. Pressing Play again then starts the stream and artist/title
display as expected...

It appears this only happens when first starting a stream, as I had to
restart slimserver in order to reproduce the problem.

I've attached the debugging output in case it's at all useful...

Good. It would be hard(er) to dig that one up.

This sounds like the problem. Not sure *why* your setup is like that, but
I think we can fix it.

Try this...
Enter the CPAN shell again, then:
o conf make /usr/bin/make

after that, you should see /usr/bin/make on the make line when you type
'o conf' alone.

Try the install command again. Hopefully now it works. Let me know...
