Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Plugin to download and playlist Podcasts
Just get any Podcast aggregator ( iTunes, Juice, whatever -- search for one you like: https://www.google.com/search?q=podcast+aggregator ). An aggregator can be configured to download podcasts to whatever directory you like inside your music library. The main challenge I've found is that some podcast providers don't provide good tags, but many aggregators can help you by automatically adjusting tags on a per-feed basis according to user-configurable rules. azinck3's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3967 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98335 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Hi Triode. I'm running this on Windows 8 and everything was working well until the update to 0.8. When I turn on logging I see the following: Starting Squeezelite: C:\PROGRA~3\SQUEEZ~1\Cache\INSTAL~1\Plugins\LOCALP~1\Bin\SQUEEZ~1.EXE -d all=debug -f C:\ProgramData\Squeezebox\Logs\localplayer.log [21:59:31.838] output_init:1265 init output [21:59:31.838] output_init:1268 outputbuf size: 3528000 [21:59:31.838] output_init:1305 requested latency: 0 [21:59:31.978] test_open:412 error opening stream: Unanticipated host error [21:59:31.978] output_init:1315 unable to open output device The change definitely seemed to coincide with the 0.8 update, but on about the same day as the update I was doing some playing with cygwin on that box and can't be 100% sure that the problem wasn't caused by possibly some strange interaction there. I've since deleted all vestiges of Cygwin from my system. Also, I initially thought maybe the problem was due to the fact that I'd previously attempted to rename the Squeezelite player (back before you released 0.8) so I looked in server.prefs and removed all squeezelite player configurations. I've removed and re-installed the Local Player plugin but still no joy. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread
Hi Pippin, I'm not a current iPeng user (I don't even own an iDevice) but am considering picking up an iPod Touch to use almost solely as a SB replacement. The primary use of the iPod would be to sit in a dock on a nightstand and act as a SB player. Some questions about iPeng's player functionality (the ability for iPeng to emulate a hardware SB): what displays on the screen while iPeng is playing back audio? What about while it sits, idle, effectively off as far as LMS is concerned? Are there any options for what is displayed? Are there LMS screensavers that work with iPeng's player? When off (and I don't mean the iPod is off, just the SB player is considered off) I'd like to see the time nice and big (it's meant to be a bedside clock) and when an LMS alarm goes off I'd love controls for sleep, etc. Is any of this feasible? I've looked for documentation on iPeng's playback functionality but have been unable to find many details about how it all works. I'm happy to read through things if you can provide a link to relevant documentation. azinck3's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3967 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Local Player plugin and Squeezelite for Linux/Windows/OSX
I haven't updated to the latest version today so maybe this is already resolved, but changes to the player name (from local player) don't stick between LMS restarts. I'm on Windows 8. Also, local is a relative term which makes it a little confusing if you're controlling the player from anything besides the server itself (what if, for example, you're using iPeng? -- the uninitiated will probably think sending music to local player will start playback on their iPhone). A minor niggle, though. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread
Thanks for the response, pippin. That's very helpful as I plan my approach. Sounds like using the IOS screensaver gets me close to what I want except for the bit about the display itself turning off, but I expect there's some way around that. I mis-typed when I mentioned wanting the sleep control when an alarm is going off...I meant snooze (I don't suppose snooze is available from the lock screen when an LMS alarm is firing?). It's funny, there are a host of little details that conspire to make this solution not all that I'd hoped. On paper, it would seem like an iPod Touch in a decent dock could replace a SB Radio, but the lack of hardware buttons and other little details mean that it's non-ideal. Are there any docks you know of with remotes that let you browse the iPeng interface? Or do you generally only get basic volume up/down, pause, play? azinck3's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3967 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Check properties of the drive and look at the permission etc. 2. Make sure there is no background media application (e.g. Windows media) or support tool running. In Vista Windows would setup a Media fast launch app automatically with a new config. cdda2wav needs exclusive access to CD drive - it will not share. Try disabling CD drive sharing. 3. Make sure LMS and all application run under a user id as CD drive cannot be accessed by applications running as a service 4. Try testing cdda2wav running in various compartibility mode such as winxp sp3 to see if it can find the cd drive. 5. Another possibility is if the disk are plugged in after power up - an application has been invoked by Windows to scan the disk and hence is not sharing it. All 3 external drives (2 hard drives, one CD-ROM) are connected via USB 2. FWIW, the only external drive that cdda2wav can see is an SATA HD for which I bought a USB enclosure. The other two drives were built and marketed as external drives; I don't know if that changes anything about what sorts of interfaces they might use internally in a way that could affect cdda2wav. All external drives are plugged in at all times and, specifically, were plugged in the last time I booted the computer. All three external drives are seen by and work normally in Windows. I'm a very happy user of your plugin, Greg -- have been using it for a year or so now and it's most helpful! Thanks for all your hard work. Yesterday I finally upgraded to the latest nightly (wanted to match my firmware to Squeezenetwork) so I also took the chance to upgrade to the latest release of your plugin. This was the first I'd seen the icons and while I can appreciate their value to some users, they're not really my cup of tea (this is no knock on the design of the icons, I'm just not much of an icon guy and they're kinda hard to see from across the room). I could live with them on my SB2 but I have 3 SB1/1g devices which don't, of course, support the new icons and on those devices the icon is simply missing so the second line of text no longer appears centered. I'd like to return to the functionality of your earlier versions and simply have no icon and the bottom line of text horizontally aligned. I've poked around in the code and was excited to see the variables showGraphics, largeFontTimeIcon, iconPreSpace, and icon2PreSpace. After playing around with them a bit I've managed to hide the graphics with showGraphics and get the 2nd-line text reasonably well-centered by just playing with iconPreSpace but the text is still technically left-aligned and just bumped over so it's not actually centered. Any suggestions? I must be missing something here. Rich I'm not saying this to be a smart-aleck, but have you considered switching to Rhapsody? It offers virtually the same service as Napster but is supported by Slimserver. I'm not sure of the technical differences between the two services and why Rhapsody was chosen to be supported but Napster not, but a switch to Rhapsody would at least offer you a practical solution to your problem in the near term. -- azinck3 azinck3's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3967 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31014 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Using Sony remote with IR Learning to Control SB3
msiegler;152377 Wrote: So it looks like the following is what we can conclude: SB3 can generate any kind of raw code as specified in an .ir file using the RAW_CODE mechanism of pulse, space, pulse, space,... specified in microseconds. I'm not sure how the carrier frequency is specified in this case however. I can use IR Learning to grab these values. SB3 can also generate some sort of standard encoding native to the IR port. What kind of IR encoding does the SB3 use for its remote? SB3 however will not recognize an alien IR message, although conceivably raw IR callback routines could be implemented to do this, albeit VERY difficultly. I would suggest that an incredible plugin would be able to 1. Learn and store any remote signal to .ir files. 2. Have a RAW ir callback that will recognize and issue commands. Am I dreaming? The recognition part is actually tricky because of the nonnative encoding. I'm a bit out of my depth here -- my understanding of IR codes is limited. But in earlier versions of the server (like, 5.4) if you turned on ir debugging you could see every single ir signal that the SB picked up--from any remote in the room. Now, I'm not sure if it was limited to the NEC protocol (I don't have any sony equipment and I know they use a different protocol) but it sure wasn't limited to SB codes. You could then use those captured codes from the logs to customize your .ir files and put together your own ir setup for the SB. Did I misunderstand, or is that the sort of functionality you want? I seem to recall that this functionality was removed in v.6 of the server and newer. Not sure why...maybe signals are being filtered in the firmware so that the server doesn't get hit as often? -- azinck3 azinck3's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3967 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29240 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
[SlimDevices: Plugins] NPR metadata not available for streams via AlienBBC
A lot has changed in my setup recently so I'm not exactly sure when this stopped working, but I'm currently running Slimserver 6.5 and AlienBBC 1.06 on Windows XP (streaming to an SB2 and SB1g). The metadata used to conveniently display for NPR shows so but that's no longer the case. All the segments are still divided up (All Things Considered, for example, might have 11 segments) but they all show a title of All Things Considered, whereas they used to show the actual title of the story contained in each segment. I just checked the Real streams on the NPR site and I'm still getting the metadata in my realaudio player, so it must still be available. avkooi;149847 Wrote: For a few weeks I have an idea for a Slimserver plugin, but I don't know for sure if it is possible and how to program it myself. The idea is as follows: A lot of people (including myself ;-) have their Squeezebox standing close to their television set. My first idea was: wouldn't it be nice to show the play time or remaining time on your Squeezebox display when you are watching a movie on your television (connected to your computer of course). The fantastic Squeezebox display is doing nothing at the same time, besides showing the actual time or some RSS feeds. But then I had another idea: wouldn't it be priceless if you could control your favourite media player (in my case the Videolan Client, VLC) on your computer with your Slimdevices hardware? And use the Squeezebox display to act as your VCR-like display? I think the hardware part is fine as it is already, if you have a setup like this: 1. PC connected to your television by S-Video, composite, component or any other kind of cable. 2. Squeezebox with infrared receiver connected to your PC by ethernet cable. So that leaves the software part to be developed by some smart girls or guys. I think the videoplayer of choice for this project is VLC, because: 1. VLC is open source (just like Slimserver); 2. VLC is available for all operating systems that can run Slimserver; 3. VLC has various kinds of interfaces, like a command line interface, and a very sophisticated web interface; 4. and last but not least, VLC has very good codecs! So, in my ideal world, I can sit on the couch with the Squeezebox remote in my hand, choose the VLC plugin, scroll through my movies list (displayed on the Squeezebox of course), and pick one to watch. Then my PC, running GNU/Linux, Windows or MacOS displays the movie on my television! Now I have 2 questions for you: Is it possible to program a plugin for Slimserver with the functionality like I described? And of course: can you program it? Thank you for your time and I am really anxious to hear your ideas and views to get this realized! I've never used it, and am not sure of how well it's been maintained lately, but there's already a plugin that does this: http://videobox.sourceforge.net/ -- azinck3 azinck3's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3967 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29064 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

I've just reconfigured my setup after a big move. I have a fresh install of ss 6.5 (the Sept. 10th nightly) on a winXP SP2 machine. I downloaded the latest version of the windows install pack (v. 1.05) from the AlienBBC site, installed it, and restarted slimserver. Whatever does the recording will need to sit alongside/over-under the SB and be remote-controllable. Ok. Well, I'm still not clear on exactly what you're trying to do. You mention wanting a format, but then you also seem to make mention that you want some sort of hardware device (...will need to sit alongside/over-under the SB and be remote-controllable.). I'm guessing you want to set up a sort of tivo-like setup for your audio? With respect to the formats: mp3 is obviously going to be the most portable. Virtually anything that can play audio will be able to play mp3. If you need higher quality than what mp3 offers then wma lossless, alac, or flac are probably going to be high on your list. wma, aac, shorten, ogg vorbis, ape, aiff, and wav are some others that you could consider and each offers it's pros and cons. But I have a feeling that the format discussion is something of a moot point because I don't think you're going to find a piece of hardware that does what you're wanting to do... But anyhow, with respect to the hardware: I guess you want to be able to record anything that your SB is playing? There are devices and software designed to have your computer do scheduled recording of internet radio and streaming audio (for instance, I use Total Recorder to record my favorite NPR programs) but I don't know of any freestanding piece of hardware that can do what you're looking for (well, outside of those controversial XM radio gadgets--but they're only for XM radio and the recorded audio is locked to the device). You could obviously just get a remote-controllable CD recorder, but I've never heard of any audio device that will do time-shifting like a tivo does (playback or pause of the same file that is currently being recorded). -- azinck3 azinck3's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3967 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25038 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

I have long been scared off of trying AlienBBC, first for its lack of windows support (though that's no longer an issue) then further by all of the horror stories I've read on here about people trying to get it to work. I'm happy to report that the packaged windows installation (of v1.03) worked flawlessly for me on the first try (running SS 6.5b1 on XP sp2). It just worked. Lovely. I'm now happily streaming my NPR shows, and occasionally taking some time to explore what the BBC has to offer. Being from the US, I'm fairly unfamiliar with the BBC's shows and I feel a bit overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of offerings through the various BBC stations and would love it if anyone here would like to point me towards some of their favorites (err, favourites?). I'm sure this has the potential to elicit an almost unending array of responses, but I just need a place to start. Surely there are a couple of shows that some of you feel strongly about and think that everyone ought to try this at least once.
