Many thanks morberg for the fix for OSX! I had given up on Spicefly since my move to OSX from linux. [SlimDevices: Plugins] Album Review on Controller and OS X
I am running SC 7.4.0 on Mac OS X and using a Controller to interface my Transporter, all of which works just fine. The only really outstanding issue for me at this point is that the Album Review plugin does not seem to behave properly. I get a display on the Controller with the correct album title and a list of two or three (sometimes many more) alternatives which match the title to choose from. However, at this point, the Controller does not respond to vertical scrolling commands from the scrollwheel, but just sits there refusing to allow selection of one of the listed albums for highlighting and reading the review. Is there anything I have missed? davep -- davep davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62859 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

No, not all - where there is a single result the display goes immediately to the detailed review for that album. Agreed - but it is the inability to navigate these lists which is the problem for me. v 2.6.0 davep -- davep davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62859 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

However a good example of an album which gives me trouble but does have a review is Mingus's 'Blues & Roots". Using the Album Review plugin on this produces a list of two entries - the original album and the Japanese re-issue. On the allmusic website the reviews for each of these are identical but each has a unique cover shot picture since the covers were different for the two releases, and I think perhaps the track listing for the alternate takes may also differ. In any case allmusic chooses to present this as two entries and hence I get a list of two on the Controller, neither of which I can actually select to read since scrolling doesn't work. As another example, clicking on Cream's Albert Hall 2005 set gets me 4 or 5 listings, including one for the DVD. Having said that, when it does work - and this is the case with the majority of the searches I do - it works well and is a valuable addition to the overall usefulness of the Controller as an aid to a good listening session. davep -- davep davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62859 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
[SlimDevices: Plugins] In Praise of Sugarcube
I just wanted to mention for those who have gone the MusicIP route and put in the time to scan and fingerprint their collection that I am finding the Sugarcube plugin to be an absolutely excellent method of listening to your collection in a 'random but structured' way. Thinking of one track you want to hear and hitting play starts you off on a usually interesting trawl through your music, turning up tracks that work but that you would never have thought to play yourself. I find I have quite a few albums that I don't actually know that well and certainly not well enough to be able to pick a title and say "that's the sort of thing I want to hear", and as a result these are the albums that almost never get tracks payed during a normal listening session. Sugarcube overcomes that by continually adding one more track to the end of your now playing list as each song finishes. This means that you are constantly in the dark about what is coming up after the next track and thus provides an element of (usually pleasant) surprise. This is now my dominant method of listening. Highly recommended. davep -- davep davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62882 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

John, not quite sure what you are trying to do here. A Playlist is just that - a list of songs lined up to be played. Once one has been played, and assuming you set the SB repeat feature to "Repeat Off", it is just history and will not play again. You can add and subtract songs to the yet to be played part of the list, but I can't see why you would want to remove one that has played already. davep -- davep davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32187 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Plugin to Remove Played Song From Playlist
Well, I never knew that before! I never actually invoke the mode you described but I just ran a little test of 3 songs on a playlist with shuffle turned on. After playing the first track and going into the second I added a 4th track and lo and behold the list reshuffled and the already played first track came up as the 3rd (i.e. next) track. It would appear that unless shuffle is turned off this is bound to happen and I agree that it would be quite annoying if you were adding new tracks and kept getting repeats of those you had already heard. No idea how to fix it other than not using shuffle in which case tracks will get played in the order they are added - which may or may not be acceptable. Otherwise I see erland suggested that a suitable plugin might be possible, but I'd have to leave that to him... davep -- davep davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32187 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

This looks excellent so far and may have the potential to be the interface that satisfies the "why isn't slimserver just like iTunes?" people. The drag and drop for playlists alone is worth it. One question - your screenshots show the now playing list having cover art thumbnails associated with each track. I am wondering what circumstances are required to see this - my all flac library with 'cover.jpg' in each album folder generates no thumbnails here. gsama, will it be possible to make the http port user-configurable in the next version? I have changed my setting in SlimServer from the default 9000 to avoid a corporate firewall blocking issue. It seems that the value of 9000 is hard-coded into the Slimfx flash routines and as a result I get full functionality except visible cover artwork. If I switch the port back to 9000 in the server the thumbnails are there. The ability to set this by the user would be a great help for this - but of course it might be only me that needs this... When you have the desired station playing, select the "Now Playing" screen on the SB (use the button on the remote), then go Right and scroll Down until you get the option to 'Add to Favorites', at which point going Right again will save the station as one your numbrered favourites. You absolutely have to start MIP before SC, otherwise it just doesn't work. And the port used by the API has to match that set in the SC settings page. Other than that - and making sure you do a full clear and rescan the first time you set this up - there isn't much you can really tweak. Can you get mixes to work from the SB player? Just push and hold the Play button on your selected seed track and you should see a message about MIP mixing... and you then get your playlist presented ready to play. Is this correct? You will need a "real" ip address for your laptop, one that exists on the internet outside of your local home network. You actually do have that if you are connected to the net via an ISP. Try opening http://whatismyipaddress.com/ which should show you the ip address of your router as seen by the internet. This is the address you need to put into softsqueeze on the remote machine. Then you need to go into your router's configuration screen and set up port forwarding for 9000 and 3483 to the local ip address of your laptop. This is the address you see if you run 'ipconfig' in a terminal (Windows) or 'ifconfig' (Linux and OSX). If you have a firewall on your laptop you will need to open up ports 9000 and 3483 to allow the traffic between Softsqueeze and Slimserver. Be aware that this is not a secure setup and anybody who can get hold of your internet ip address can get into your laptop and control Slimserver themselves. To prevent this it is best to use SSH tunneling - Softsqueeze actually has SSH client capabilities built right in so you just need to set up the SSH server on your laptop. Linux and OSX can use OpenSSH; on Windows I have had success with WINSSHD (http://www.bitvise.com/winsshd). You do not need to run Slimserver on the remote machine, just Softsqueeze. davep -- davep davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42136 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Help with Using Softsqueeze Remotely
I assumed from your first mail when you said "I am running Slimserver on my laptop and have been able to access the music at home by attaching via my home IP address xx.xx.xx.xx:9000. I can see all my music folder so I know this part is working." that this meant that you had a laptop as your server, since you don't run Slimserver on the client machine, just a browser (and Softsqueeze if you want a player). To be clear, you need to open up ports on the home computer you are using as a server, not on the remote machine. You then connect to the "outside world" ip address of the home router and forward the ports from there to the local ip address of the server machine. davep -- davep davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42136 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

My own office experience was similar -couldn't get music to actually play - until I guessed that the proxy/firewall/whatever set-up used by the company was blocking port 9000. If you go into the Slimserver setup pages on your home machine you can find somewhere (I can't look now and in any case I am on SC7 which has a quite different setup pages layout) a place to change the port assigned for communications from 9000 to something else. I suggest you try this and see if changing this setting helps. You will of course have to change it in the browser on the remote machine and in Slimserver to match. davep -- davep davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42136 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicInfoSCR on Boom - Not getting far..
First of all the obvious - the checkbox next to the plugin name on the Plugins tab is ticked? Otherwise I suggest you try going the new automated way, using Extension Downloader. Still slightly unintuitive to my mind, but does a good job of managing plugins. Go the the Advanced tab on the SC Settings page and then look in the drop down list for Extension Downloader. In the Additional Repositories box at the top cut and paste this url http://www.herger.net/slim-plugins/repo.xml and then click on Apply at the bottom of the page. You then need to restart SC to get it to see the new repo. When you next open the same Advanced|Extension Downloader page you should see then MIS plugin ready for selection. I think you then need to do a further restart to get it activate and then off you go. If your original MIS install was actually there you may see a message about needing to remove it first. If so go to the directory where you had put the MIS folder and blow it away and then do the auto install as above. davep -- davep davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56952 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Announce: AlienBBC v1.01 BETA
I am running Ubuntu and have had a working version of 6.5b1 running with a functioning Alien 1.0 for the past month or so. However I was tempted by the release of the official Slimserver Debian package and the promise that I could update regularly as I used to do when running Mandrake and using nightly rpms. Since the new install wiped out my Alien I thought I would use this opportunity to install the latest 1.01 beta. However, something has got lost in the shuffle as I cannot get any of the rtsp settings in 'file types' to stick but get the following message: Required binary was not found: [mplayer.sh] -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -bandwidth 1000 -cache 128 -af volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao pcm:nowaveheader:file=/dev/fd/3 $FILE$ | [flac] -cs --totally-silent --endian=little --channels=2 --sign=signed --bps=16 --sample-rate=44100 --compression-level-0 - Required binary was not found: [mplayer.sh] -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -bandwidth 1000 -cache 128 -af volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao pcm:nowaveheader:file=/dev/fd/3 $FILE$ | [lame] --silent -r -x -q $QUALITY$ -b $BITRATE$ - - Required binary was not found: [mplayer.sh] -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -bandwidth 1000 -cache 128 -af volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao pcm:nowaveheader:file=/dev/fd/3 $FILE$ This looks like a path/permissions issue but I have drawn a blank trying to nail it down. The mplayer.sh file is in /usr/share/slimserver/Bin/ and has 777 permissions. mplayer itself has not been touched. My suspicion is that it is related to the fact that the location of slimserver has changed as aresult of the new install from /usr/local to usr/share I have run "mplayer rtsp://rmlivev8.bbc.net.uk/farm/*/ev7/live24/radio1/live/r1_dsat_g2.ra" from within a shell and get live BBC streaming audio, so I assume that my mplayer is not broken. One thing that I am suspecting as part of the problem is the fact that the debian install now seems to put most things into /usr/share/slimserver whereas under all my prevous installs (automated rpms and manual ubuntu) things had been in /usr/local/slimserver. Michael, Thanks for that - it did identify the problem as one of the possibilities I had suspected, the port used for the http communications. I do not use the standard 9000 but another 9xxx port. Although threre is a place to set the http port in the SlimRemote settings dialog this does not seem to have the necessary effect since the output from running your debug version shows it is still calling 9000. When I reset my server to use 9000 the album art comes up just fine in SlimRemote. I guess that the 9000 is somehow hardwired in the code. Would it be possible to look at making the value in the Settings dialog get picked up correctly and used? Michael, This seems to half work. The http port entry accepts my non-standard value and then and I get the small sized artwork in the "Music" view. However in the "Status" view, where there should be the larger image, I still get the question mark graphic. Looking at the console window from which I launched ewe I see repeated instances of the following: ewe.io.IOException: Connection refused at ewe.io.BasicStreamObject.getException(BasicStreamObject.java)at ewe.net.Socket.doConnect(Socket.java) at ewe.net.socketConnector.doRun(Socket.java) at ewe.sys.TaskObject.run(TaskObject.java) at ewe.sys.mThread.run(mThread.java) Not sure if this helps you nail this one. Also, having exited ewe and restarted I see that the http port assignment is not really sticky in that it resets to 9000 if you start a new session. davep -- davep davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22256 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: [Announce] SlimRemote 0.6 - now featuringInternet radio support
Michael, you may recall that I was the difficult guy who wanted to run SlimRemote on a system with a non-standard 9xxx html port. Your version 0.6 fixes the problem with seeing artwork just fine - thanks. However, when I run the program under ewe on Ubuntu Linux I am seeing excessive CPU usage - about 25 to 30% of resources for each instance of SlimRemote running. I would like to run 3 copies - one for each of my 3 SBs as I find this fits nicely on screen in three side-by-side panels, enabling easy control of the three boxes without the switching needed under the browser interface. But this basically maxes out the resource loading at close to 100% - not a desirable state obviously. Is this a problem with my setup or is there something about the ewe install that I need to be aware of that can cause this? davep -- davep davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22614 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
