Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Photo Gallery Plugin v1.0
Hi, I'm also fond of mherger's Picture Gallery as the best way I know of for displaying images as e.g. screen savers on my Squeezebox touches and radios throughout my house. However, it doesn't seem to work that well anymore, with images with the Norwegian letters æ, ø an Ã¥ in file and folder names not displaying on my LMS server version 7.9.1 - 1513951369 recent nightly build running on a Windows 10 computer. The version of the Picture Gallery plugin is v.1.2.2, and was installed from the 3rd party plugins repository accompanying the server installation itself. Symptoms: -In the web interface controller for the players, names and folders with the letters are displaying correct in the main pane, but the folders are empty and the folder names are messed up in the darker grey status line above when I enter them, for instance: "Hovedmeny > Galleri > 2017 > 2017.08.19 - BÃÂ¥ttur pÃÂ¥ BrÃÂ¥stein (Open in new window)". Similarly, single images with file names containing these letters, but in working folders without these letters, are displayed without thumbnails and cannot be opened for viewing. -On the players, for instance the radio, The folder names with such letters are displayed, and so are the different files, but without thumbnails, and the cannot be opened for viewing. On another Raspbian Linux installation everything is working fine with the same Picture Gallery plugin version 1.2.2 from the included 3rd party repository on a utf8 LMS server 7.9.1 - 1503129892... Initially, after browsing the forums like mad for a solution, I thought it was charset/code page/language issue. My server is normally running on cp1252, but when starting the server with the option --charset=utf8, the problem persists, with the only difference being that the file and file names now are displayed correctly in the darker grey status line above the main browser pane in the web controller interface. So now I'm totally stuck and out of luck, after hours of tinkering, and sincerely hope that someone is able to help me getting this much loved functionality working again! With the best regards and wishes for still a strong Squeezebox community in the coming year of 2018! Thanks for chiming in Michael - but what appears to be happening is once checked, the check mark doesn't stick, so there is nothing to uncheck to remove the photo from the favorites folder. The check boxes always appear as blank when subsequently summoned. I guess I could create other Favorite folders and populate them very carefully. But it is a shame to not have the ability to edit them. Hi - I have just installed a couple of O2 Jogglers as control points for my squeezeboxes and given the extra screen real estate have decided to finally use the photo functionality. I created a folder on my WHS for correctly cropped images and the Picture Gallery sees them and all is fine for viewing slideshows in Gallery mode. I wanted the ability to utilise some of the photos as a screensaver slideshow so designated a handful as favorites to test if it would work and sure enough it is all going fine. Nice work Michael thank you. The problem I now have is how to remove a photo from the favorites list, as some of the ones I chose to test, I really don't want to keep as favorites. I don't see any way of doing this as the only prompt I get when accessing the favorites either in the Web GUI or player is to add the favorite not to remove a favorite. Hopefully there is something very simple that I am overlooking. Michael, I don't if you're still around and more especially if you still have some memory about how your great plugin works but anyway I'll take my chance ;) I'm still around, yes. But my memory... I would like to be able to update the gallery.prefs file and trigger the update without restarting the whole LMS server, any hint that could point me in the right direction ? (I can do a bit of perl but my knowledge is more around bash & php). There are CLI commands to handle the favorites lists. That's what the web UI is using, too. gallery favorites file:/path/to/your/image.jpg should return a list of favorites lists, with a isFavorite flag which would indicate whether your picture is in that list or not. You could then toggle that flag by sending gallery favorites favid:XXX file:/path/to/your/image.jpg where XXX is the index of the favorites list within the list of favorites as received by the first call. At least that's what I read from the code... I haven't used that plugin for a while. -- Michael ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Restarting does nothing, the popup returns after restart. Also the "Picture Gallery" plugin has disappeared altogether in settings. Michael, is there an idiots guide on setting this up? When first announced under 7.5 I had it working, but since 7.6 it does not work - I think I had to do a complete clean and fresh install so lost everything. I'm on 7.6.2, Windows7 server, mixture of touch and Duets. I've entered (on the plug-in page) the directory (SLIDESHOW) with a selection of photos, and I've also entered a favorite list name (FAV1). On the WEB UI I select picture gallery and I see 2 folders (the directory and the favorite (FAV1)). I can add photos or directories to the favorite list. Now, on the Duet or Touch I go to Settings, Image Viewer, Image Viewer Settings, Sources, and select Local Storage. Then I go to Source Specific Settings.. what do I enter here? It requires a directory path name but whatever I enter is invalid. I would expect some kind of notation to link to the favorites list name (FAV1). What should I enter (allowing for the fact this is windows?) On the joggler, if I go into 'Extras - picture gallery' I can see the server and the picture thumbnails but when I click on an image it comes up with 'Several attepts at reading/creating the image list failed. I hope the favourite Idea will be include. Its like a hassard. When i did stated to tag the covers was most easy to use a cover of several images and tag it. additional the cover i did use i named in same folder as cover.jpg. In past with MPD on my PCH was need a image named folder so i did a folder.jpg inside the folder. And when i use now Media thomp or mina DLNS server on my NAS they found 25000 img files plus bmp or other files. Starting a Diashow is only possible for one folder and not for subfolders and so on... Just to mark the pictures as favourite or a favourite folder is a realy amazing and easy to handle feature. So with time i hope i can use it for slideshows at tv also soon. I'll try to get some of the functionality of my plugin in to the LMS release. But extending my plugin's scanning would be a lost effort. Hi Michael, i did test today the first time your Photo Gallery. It works well if the Photo is on same PC than Squeezeboxserver is stored. But maybee its possible to make it running if the photos are on external NAS stored what is common in a lot of cases. Subfolder integration inside the photoshow would be nice. I am using whs so after uninstall, everthing goes and a total new scan of library starts. For example radio paradise information browser with reasently played music work before but not after, and under programs all programs choosen in webcontroller are not present in the applet installer menu or in the programsmenu so now Try again. And this is why I dont like updating the server though its mch better now than 740 that almost meant hallo sonos. It works but > won't browse randomly even when I adjust the ImageViewer setting to > random. As mentioned before, this isn't possible, as the plugin doesn't store a full list of all images. I didn't want to get into the complications of maintaining a database... and reading the full list when the images are to be shown could easily kill a slower system. I have thousands of photos. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Photo Gallery Plugin v1.0
Thanks mherger for developing this great plugin - it's a fantastic feature that really should be a part of the core SqueezeCenter in future releases. I'm running SqueezeCenter 7.5.1 on my Windows Home Server and have setup the gallery plugin for use on my Duet Controller. It works but won't browse randomly even when I adjust the ImageViewer setting to random. I'd like all pics to be displayed upright/portrait as I have the Duet sitting in the charger base and at the moment some pictures are rotated, I'm happy to have the photos be smaller or cropped in order to keep them vertical, is there a way of achieving that? I'm also having problems with some photos not displaying (I get the check connection message) but haven't figured out yet which ones this happens to as sometimes when I retry it works. Is there a relatively stable release of 7.6 out there? If so, I'd be happy to give that a go to see if it helps as I can live with a few bugs if need be. I'm not sure about your file naming schema, but the sample image you sent me is failing due to the space in the file name. If I remove it, then it's displayed fine. SBS 7.6 already does a better job parsing file names. Hi Michael i just installed our picture gallery pluggin on SBS 7.5.2-r31632. I don't know if these problems existed with previous versions too (i didn't use befor). 1.) It looks like there's problem with special characters in folder names. Folders with e.g ü or è and the like do not show any content in the web ui and (i guess) therefor nothing is shown on the controller either. The second thing is, that certain pictures taken with a specific camera (canon g10) were not really displayed - are just represented by this cd(?) placeholder on web-GUI and controller. I don't know if it's just the size or anything else. Making a special version might be an option but is not really feasible. Thanks a lot for updating the plugin version to 1.2.1 but I (again, sorry) found some issues: 1. Some of my folders contain metadata files that share the basename with a JPG image, like a.jpg has a a.jpg.xmd Unfortunately version 1.2.1 still adds the .xmd files to gallery.prefs. 2. Thanks a lot for this great enhancement. Where do you see the performance problem regarding recursive adding of folders? I found two little issues with gallery: 1. Adding folders adds all files within the folder and does not filter out any non-JPEG files. This makes it impossible to view that collection of files as a slideshow. Ok, ok, you've been asking for it: version 1.2 introduces the "add folder to favorites" feature. Please note that it will not travers sub-folders. You'll still have to use the feature on every folder. Including sub-folders would very likely be a terrible performance killer.
