I just installed SqueezeRemote on my Surface Pro 3, W8.1, and after a few tries it managed to log in to MSB.com. This looks real nice! Really nice, with the bio and everything. Cool! I'm having problems with Squeeze Remote. Has stopped working -- after a recent Win8.1 update, SR starts but immediately stops and disappears. Nothing I do (uninstall/reinstall, etc etc) seems able to help. 7illusions is not answering support queries (and their email address on the MS store SqueezeRemote page does not work, being misspelled with .coms, including the s, at the end). Anyone help with this? R. i switched to DS214play from a Netgear System (where everything worked fine). When i try to either modfiy the Connection data or add the NSA as a new Connection, enter all the necessary data and save, I get an error messag Connection failed. Hi, I'm having a DS 212+ with DSM 5 update 1 and LMS 7.7.3 - just added the Squeeze remote app on my Win8.1 machine with touchscreen. I can confirm it Works well and it's a huge improvement instead of the Logitech web interface. It did not take long time to make the trial to my own app :) The design of the squeeze remote app works well for me - just place it in a spilt window and you can easily control you squeezebox players. If I schould give suggestion of improvement to the design of the app - it would be. 1. If it's possible - to add a function that on request can control all the players volume at the same time? 2. To jump to functions like your Spotify playlist - we need to click at my programs, spotify, playlist and then chose your chosen album - would it be possible to add your own customized favorrit in the More button that will take you directly to your favorit play operators like Spotify services, pod cast, or Wimp services? I believe that the Logitech remote controller has a similar function where you can add a submenu to the main menu. Hope my explanation make sense to you. Is there any way you could integrate the standard Windows Media controls into this? I use the app on my PC and would like to control the audio via my keyboard (next/prev, play/pause, etc...) The web version of the interface doesn't offer these controls, so I got yours hoping that I'd be able to do this. Thank you for replying so swiftly and for asking for comments, etc. As per my earlier posting: first-off I would like to see a release version number so that the user knows whether (s)he has the latest release and a link to any updates. You have already commented that I have a large (huge?) collection and hence some of my queries may relate to the size of the library (which is likely to get bigger!) Things I consider important: 1. Album title: when music is playing we see the artwork, track title and artist but nowhere does it show the album title. This is important for me because I break many of my ripped albums down into smaller works (e.g. the CD may have two original vinyl albums which I separate). 2. Track title: the text size is so small that it is difficult to read, especially when the red text clashes with the colours on the photograph underneath. 3. Volume: I find the program will often crash if I try to load albums or artists for scrolling. Hence I try now to use the Search function which works very well (provided I know what to search for!). But having chosen an album to play and started the music playing I then have go back six steps to the artwork page ... and this is where the volume is controlled. This can be inconvenient if the start is particularly loud/quiet. How can we control the volume more readily? Other: 4. I had hoped for the same functionality as we have on the iPad (Squeezepad). I have a number of issues with the app but before I raise any query thereon, may I ask: how do I know which version is running - and whether or not there is an update? I'm used to looking at Help/About but I can't find anything on the UI which indicates whether the version I have is the latest. Any help? Cheers. I've verified my id and password, tried using my entire email address and then just the first part, and still nothing. Thoughts on what I could be doing wrong? Hi, I seem to have have come across a bug: If you browse My Music by Artist, click to go into the artist and then click on an album and then click out of the album box *without* playing anything, the data presented on the screen gets messed up: sometimes the artist's albums and tracks disappear, sometimes you get back the data for another artist that you viewed previously. This doesn't happen every time, but if you click in and out of an album it will happen eventually. There are some remaining issues sometimes with scrolling using the mouse wheel on the artist view also. Again not always... 24hrs ago I'd never heard of Squeeze Remote but our purchase of a Windows Surface RT Tablet (basic model) meant I had to find a way to access my music. Source: QNAP419PII (Flac) - extensive (39,000+ tracks) collection running via ethernet to a Squeezebox Touch. I can access this library via PCs, Smartphones, and an iPad ... in addition to the SB Touch and SB Duet Controller. So I don't really need more access but that doesn't stop me ... So I bought Squeeze Remote and some hours later I finally got access :). There was nothing in the download which suggested how I should connect this interface to my QNAP library and the only UI was the menu option Settings / Connections from the RHS of the screen. A posting above suggests that you should drag down from above ... this has no effect whatsoever. After trying numerous times - and failing - to change the settings for jive.squeezenetwork,com under the Logitech Media Server option to something that represented my QNAP settings I finally opted to Add and start afresh and more by luck than judgement finally succeeded. Now I know I'm somewhat thick when it comes to PCs (I've been using them for only 25 years so I'm still a Newbie) but unless I missed something very obvious, how else is someone for whom the music - not the PC technology - is the prize, to know what you should do. Just how many other buyers, having spent their few �/$/Eur given up ... especially as the amount is (happily) minimal? I'm sorry to be critical as I support the efforts to bring this App to the market (since MS obviously feel that nobody wants to install LMS !) but I do find ... in my ageing years ... this technology baffling! As for the interface: I'll give it a day or two to get used to it but the thought of scrolling (swiping from the right) through hundreds of pages to get to titles beginning with letter S or T, etc. is not encouraging. Is there an alphabet jump somewhere that I'm missing? It just keeps getting better. Thanks for the updates. You mentioned wanting feedback so here is more. I mentioned these first two items last time (would really, really like the first item): - Could you make the album art larger in the Now Playing screen? Also large album artwork everywhere would be great. - Finally could you add an option for the Album screen to sort by Artist first, maybe Year next, similar to what you can do with the Squeezebox server or other Squeezebox controller apps? I'm sure you have plans to improve the playlist feature, but just some quick comments: Could you add artist as well as title to the playlist listing? Of course it would be great to have some kind of playlist editing: deleting, re-ordering tracks, etc. Also aesthetically, it would be nice to see the playlist as a panel that isn't a pop-up putting everything else in the background, but a panel that can be hidden or shown next to the Now Playing album artwork. Thanks, It was a problem with my user profile, I created a new local user and all is working fine now. One problem I have found is searching with Triodes spotify plugin. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Regarding the artist image, I removed that for a while since on large collections it made the UI very sluggish and sometimes crashed. Thanks for getting a new release out there. It is improving each time. Just a few suggestions: - Could you make the album art larger in the Now Playing screen? - On the Artist screen, the ARTISTSORT or ALBUMARTISTSORT tags seem to be ignored while they are shown properly in the Squeezeserver web interface. Could you use the same ordering as the Squeezeserver? - Finally could you add an option for the Album screen to sort by Artist first, maybe Year next, similar to what you can do with the Squeezebox server or other Squeezebox controller apps? Also could you add the artist name or something. Sometimes it isn't obvious to people who aren't familiar with your collection when they just have an album cover and name, but no album artist. I really like the album art tile display and it makes great use of the tablet, but with a large collection, the ordering is important to me Some more: - Before on the Artist screen you would see pictures for the artists. Now I'm just seeing the trumpet player icon. I tried clearing the cache, but that didn't help - Also when I go to My Apps, I don't see an labels at all on the icons, just gray boxes so I don't know what each icon does until I select it. - Finally when I have MOG as a top-level icon, the icon is blank, but at least there is a label so I know what it is. Well, the problem is not the app itself, it works with the Logitech builds. The problem is within Synologys build of LMS where they've screwed up the HTTP Header. A Http Header should end with a CRLF, but Synology for some reason only returns a CR. This is the only software on Synology devices that does this that I've come across and I'm hoping that they will fix it. The other softwares such as the DLNA client returns a correct Header. Previously, this header-error didn't matter but since Windows 8 and the WinRT API's for Windows Store unsafe header-parsing is no longer allowed as it's a potential security flaw. Writing my own HTTP transport via sockets would take forever and for Synology to fix their screwup would take 5 min so I kind of hope they'll fix it. http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=131t=65743p=250293hilit=crlf+squeezebox#p250293 The more people that post complaints to Synology, the faster this fix will happen. For me, I am able to change the IP address by using the Charms window from the right hand side while in the app. I select Settings, then Connections. Another small bug: there are some views where scrolling with the trackpad on my laptop (which I presume as the mouse scroll) doesn't seem to work. Eg: in my music in Artist and Album view it is OK, but in Years it is not. It also doesn't work in the podcasts view. Another thing that I would really appreciate would be some way to seek within tracks. I listen to radio shows/podcasts a lot and I have to go to the web interface if I want to resume half-way through. Have a track progress bar to click on would be great. Thanks for working on this! As of today, a new version is available for download. Basically it's just bug fixes, but the crashes and album art not showing should now be solved. Thanks for the feedback and sorry for my late response. A new version was released a few Days ago which improves image loading/caching. It now feels stable and fluid enough to start working on new features. Thanks for the app. Works great on my ASUS Taichi. One request. Can you please increase the number of New Music albums displayed? Currently I'm seeing about 70 items only even though LMS New Music Limit is set much higher (500)... I like flipping through the new albums added to make sure I don't forget to listen to some of the newer additions. Hi had been using the app on my phone for long and liked it. I was waiting for it to come to my Surface. Thanks again a lot. I faced no connection issues. Nevertheless, I still have about one third of albums not showing covers, while same albums appear great on the Windows Phone app. I also have a personal dream: would it be possible to implement a Composer button next to Artist ? For all those out there using their Squeeze Box for Classical music, that would make it a killer feature. There's now an update available in store. It should solve previous issues with crashes and also implements a new main menu. Hi, Thanks for writing this app. It's already proving to be a much better way of controlling the Squeezebox from my laptop than the web interface. I am running v 1.0.2.27 (according to the folder name in WindowsApps at least. I can't seem to find this info in the app itself) and LMS 7.7.3 on a Win 8 Pro laptop. I have spotted a few bugs: * Scrolling with the trackpad (mouse wheel action) doesn't seem to work on the main screen * When LMS is playing some podcasts, the app crashes immediately after opening. It seems to occur at the moment it is trying to load the now playing image, before the favourites list appears. The only way to fix this is to start playing something else on the Squeezebox and then start the app again. This can be easily replication for example by tuning into this URL through the web interface http://ra4.residentadvisor.net/audio/RA350_130211_Pillowtalk-residentadvisor.net.mp3 and then launching the Squeezebox Remote app. It will crash. I have seen this on multiple podcast files, but hopefully it's the same bug everywhere. * It may be related, but frequently when MP3 streams are being played, the app does not display the correct artwork, but shows the white disc icon. * The position in the menu structure is not saved. If Windows kills the app, on recovery it goes back to the main screen. If fact, the app seems to be killed within seconds of moving to a different application without the ability to go back to it most of the time. * The volume slider only seems to work when dragged, not when clicked on to a new position. * If the track title is too long, it goes over the time in the Artist view. Some ideas for enhancements: * Some sort of slider for skipping within a track. * A windows-type search functionality. Typing could bring up the search charm and immediately filter the results on the current screen. Anyway thanks for doing this! It's looking great already. First: Very Nice app! It's so much easier now to control SB from Win8 Laptop. I have tested it on standard laptop without touch control with local LMS. After a short run my suggestions: Keyboard/remote control issues - left-right scrolling with mouse wheel does work in mymusic view but not in main menu and an albums song list - item selection does not work with remote or keyboard arrows - A Live Tile with now playing info would be nice - In main menu it would be nice to have an overview of now playing info without the need of right click. or probably use now playing screen as start screen? - one click less to e.g. skip track (instead of: open app - right click - skip) - The Now Playing / Synchronisation was a bit confusing at first. I think it would be better to show all players on the right, even the selected one. I thought that there is one of my players missing. Little bug: Sync status is only shown correct if player is once selected from the right side. Thanks for the feedback. I'll see if I can get a new version out before the weekend with some improvements. My main concern at the moment is actually performance, my server broke down while writing the app and I still have to recover my music collection. Right now I just have about 100 albums which is easy to handle, but how does the app work when reaching 1000+? (There's a little performance bug in Win8 at some special occasions which might need to be addressed) Regarding translation, that would be great. The app is prepared for this already by using resource files, but it might be a good idea to wait until I have all the basic functionality in place. I have just sendt you the feedback below 1.0.2.22 is much better and I can now connect to my server; from 2 other PC; on the server itself it indicates connection problems but sometimes some album information is shown. I have cleared the cache and some times when starting the SR it indicates that the cache is corrupt and is being cleared. - on the 2 remote clients I see Genres, artists, New Music which looks OK. But Albums status indicates that SR is fetching 750 of 842; then it indicates that all 1000 albums have been fetched. 842 is the correct number. - all albums artwork are shown 4 times - the app has crashed, well disappeared a couple of times... no information given. Hi I just installed the trial version ... 1.0.1.17 on my win8 laptop. I provide the connection information but nothing more happens; it does not fetch the music library from the server like on WP, and no error information...?! Also on the WP version there are many more settings ie Refresh Collection but I understand that it is a first version. By bringing down the TopApp-bar (RightClick or Swipe from Top) and clicking the settingsbutton (I know, bad Icon but I'm working on Another) you will be brought to the NowPlaying screen. In there you have the possibility to select other players and to sync them by pressing the on/off toggle button. (The Sync header is missing in current version) 2 - 3. A new version is in testing at Microsoft which should hopefully solve this issue. 4. On my todo list. 5. The favorites should be loaded upon player selection. This will be changed in an upcoming version As this is a very early version alot of functionality is missing but I'm working on this app daily and will release atleast one update a week to bring it up to par with my WP version functionality wise. All code is rewritten from the WP version to improve performance and the goal is to use this as a base for the upcoming Refresh of the WP as well. Hi Everyone, Despite the EOL announcement for WB, Im just curious if anyone is currently working on a Windows 8 app? There's nothing in the market place and I know despite there being a couple of apps for Windows Phone, none of those apps have come across (yet). I think with the Modern design used by Windows 8, there's the possibility for a really beautiful app. Just throwing my hat in the ring for wanting an app, if others are interested maybe give a shout so we can judge demand.
