Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] 7.3 and XM radio

2009-09-17 Thread JimInPT

Has there been any progress on this issue of XM Radio and Squeezebox?

My father is interested in dumping his XM boombox (with satellite
antenna) and finding something to feed XM into his home stereo system
and saving the spece the boombox is taking up in his shelf.

I have a SB and a Boom so am investigating whether these can finally
tune XM Radio, preferably without SqueezeCenter (he doesn't have a
full-time network server running, but does have net-connected PCs).

He doesn't need a Squeezebox solution specifically, so if anybody knows
of another XM device to feed his amplifier, we're open to that idea too.
He's fairly sophisticated with PCs and networking but at 80 years of
age really isn't seeking out complexity - he'd just like to have his XM
favorites on a full system.

Thanks for any help.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] 7.3 and XM radio

2009-08-15 Thread jschall

I have installed XM Radio Online Plugin 3.2 on SqueezeCenter 7.3.3, and
it Sort Of works. I have the XM Radio Online menu item under Internet
Radio,
and I can enter a channel number, like 70 for Real Jazz and 78 for
Symphony Hall. Hallelujah!

I can also enter the URL like xmradio://70 and add it to my Favorites.

What I cannot get working are the Browse Presets/Browse Genres/Browse
Stations buttons. When I press those, a useless page opens with
Home / XM Radio Online / Browse Presets
at the top.

I must add that I am using the Light interface so I can control my
SqueezeBox Classic from my HP iPAQ and Opera Mobile browser.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Add

That fixes the transcoder problems.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] 7.3 and XM radio

2009-05-08 Thread raglencross

I have had the opportunity to play around with the revised XM plugin
over the last few days. Other than the lack of a XM button on the SB3
as previously noted, I see there is a problem with displaying correct
track information in the web UI and on the SB3. The display of this
info is slow to start and when it does, it alternates between the
correct track particulars and apparently those from other channels. FYI,
I am also having problems with track info on the latest versions of
Squeezeplay and bpa's beta update to Softsqueeze, but that is a matter
for another time.

Some other points:
As for Now Playing on the right side of the web UI,track info is slow
to display or doesn't show up at all for the categories on the left side
of the web UI, such as Presets and Browse Stations.

Track info on the left side of the web UI does not update. If I
remember correctly, this was also the case with earlier versions of the
plugin. It would be a nice touch to have the tracks constantly
refreshed, if that is possible.

I of course don't know if these glitches are particular to me, so would
be interested to hear your observations.

government regulators who allowed the merger was that the new company
was to maintain both satellite systems so that one set of users or the

still losing money big time, I expect it wil not be long before they
will be asking the regulators to ditch one of the systems, probably the

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] 7.3 and XM radio

2009-05-01 Thread raglencross

Neil, I have your plugin working on XP and Vista 64 machines through a
SB3, Softsqueeze 3.9b1 and the beta Squeezeplay. I will give you a full
report after I have had more time to put the plugin through its paces.
The only thing of significance I note so far is the lack of a XMradio
menu entry for the SB3 and Softsqueeze, although it is shown on the web
UI. I expect that is what you meant by menu on boom and SB3 in your
last post. Like the Duet, XM is a selectable menu option in Squeezeplay,
but does not show up in the menu settings for the other devices.

Great first effort which is much appreciated!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] 7.3 and XM radio

2009-05-01 Thread jdc

I'm in the same boat - its working very well with my boom except for the
menu button missing. That said, the fav trick works: you can add any xm
station as a favorite by specifying the station's number with the
xmradio qualifier. For example, for station 204, NHL, I made the
following favorite entry:

xmradio://204

And in fact this actually is working better than ever - it looks like
you fixed it so that I don't have to log in first, I just go to it and
it works! (Good thing too, since there's no option on my boom.)

Perhaps these fav's are a pain to setup one time, but after that, very
convenient, and no limitations in the number of favs you can have,
unlike presets. I've already made a bunch in an XM subfolder and will
be listening to them all tomorrow.

Anyway, thanks again Neil!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] 7.3 and XM radio

2009-04-13 Thread downtime

Because I activated the 30-day Sirius trial, I decided to upgrade to 7.3
again to see how it works. As it turns out 7.3 prevents access to Sirius
from outside the US (where I am). I can't even add Sirius to the player
menu from inside 7.3. So, by installing 7.3 I lost access to both
XMRadio which I pay for and Sirius which I am testing.

I'm back to 7.2.1, listening to Sirius for a month and then will be
content with XMRadio.

If you really want XM just drop down to 7.2.1. Really, is that too much
of a work around? Anyway, 7.2.1 is pretty stable build.

Now for the kicker. I just upgraded to the new 128kb stream - yeah
more money! Anyway, the stream keeps putting out farty noises. It
happens on most channels. Its actually worse listening to the random
noises than listening to the old 64kb stream. Anyway, I'm pissed.
Others have reported this problem too.

Damn, is Sirius/XM trying to go bankrupt on purpose! I'm really geting

Max - good points, but by going back to 7.2.X, you lose the extension
downloader which makes life SO much easier for plugin-related tasks.

Overall, I fear we're all spitting in the wind - no one wants to
upgrade / build this plugin, so I think it's a moot issue.

Ouch. Sorry guys. I didn't think about hardware and subscription

it's because of their responsibilities to hardware owners.

Does anyone have an idea what broke the plugin? If it was SC 7.3, what
will prevent the next SC upgrade from breaking a newly re-written
plugin leaving us again without support?

It seems the only long-term solution is support from SC.

Well, I'm not going to comment on the companies financial woes, customer

stick around because I like the content, pure and simple.

That said, some good news, I think, at least for users of the plugin on
7.2.x. It looks like they are keeping their existing infrastructure in
place (at least for now) and the old xm plugin will continue to work on
7.2.1.

They haven't upgraded my account yet (nor a lot of others, as per the
angry users on the xmfan forum) but I signed up for a trial account
that does have the 128kbps feed, and I'm able to log in with the xm
plugin. Right now I see (and hear) it going at 128kbps.

Sweet!!!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] 7.3 and XM radio

2009-03-05 Thread Howard Passman

If you add two negative numbers it should still be a negative. I never
could figure out why'd you'd merge two companies losing money to fix
the problem.

With the drop in car sales the whole satellite radio thing may be
doomed. I know two subscriptions I won't be renewing because of the
addition of DJ's to two of my favorite stations. The very reason I
quit listening to FM and I wasn't paying for the privilege.

I think combined with the fact that Satellite radio is inconvenient to
install in a car and not much more fun at home with wires hanging all
over for the antenna, it's just not as viable as it could be.

If Rhapsody, Slacker, etc.. would get reasonable with the price of
their players they could kill the market fairly quickly.

All IMHO

I read that SeriousXM is going to start charging for internet use (3

slimdevices or anyone els will like end the use over my Squeezebox for

Yeah it's too bad someone isn't making a working plugin for 7.3. I'm
staying with 7.2 just so I can use the SB for XM with the favorite work

Thanks for the idea. Though I already have a stereo connection from my

Not much discussion about this. Anyone know if someone is working on
it? I used to use XMRadio all the time through my squeezebox.

I have a separate connection from my computer to my stereo and now play
XMRadio directly and bypass the Squeezebox, which means I am using the
squeezebox less and less, which is a bummer as I used to like to switch
around. But without XMRadio working through SC it is not as convenient
to switch back and forth.

Anyone know if a fix is coming?

Thanks,
Allan

I checked in on the same thing yesterday. Logitech has indicated that
they aren't really interested in persuing XM, which puzzles me
especially now that XM and Sirius are the same entity. It also appears
that it's a lot of work to write a plug-in for it, so it seems as if
it's a done deal. To me, it's the only thing missing and even though
there seems to be a lot of interest nothing is happening.

I may stand corrected, but I think there were changes made to
Squeezenetwork that require the 7.3 firmware to play Rhapsody. Not a

other inconsistencies exist between 7.2's F/W and SN's.

You are correct as far as I know. I used the workaround happily under

plugin, and connect, but no sound. I think these are everyone's general

I have a SB3 but no controller, so I think I might go back to 7.2 just

A horrible work around is to get an inexpensive XM player and hook it
in to the BOOM line in or just run it through your stereo. I bought a
Delphi RoadyXT for $20 with the home dock. As much as I like (liked it
better before the merge) XM, I love being able to listen to other music
on my Controller, which can't be done with 7.2. It really seems like
no one is going to make XM work with 7.3 based on it barely worked on
7.2 and that was out for a long time. Your wait my be forever...

Nope, I apologize. I swore when I first started reading this forum
that I would type things out. SBS, SC, SN, It was confusing for me
and I think I missed some valuable info in the beginning.

Anyway, SBC is SqueezeBox Controller. The remote, if you will, for the
DUET system. With the advent of 7.3 your Contoller can now be a player.
You could plug it in to your stereo or a set of powered speakers or you
can plug a set of headphones in and listen to it like an personal
player. After loading 7.3 you simply need to go to the Controller and
select Settings/Advanced/Audio and turn on Beta player. Then go back
to your menu and under Select Player select the Controller.

It won't play Rhapsody yet and it doesn't sync with other players well
(yet), but it sounds great with a decent set of buds or headset and
beacuse it's wireless, you can wonder around the house with it. I walk
my dog with mine. Depending on your wireless set up you can get 150'
and much further with range extenders, etc..

It's great fun and works well.

Howard

P.S. I think I remembered the menus correctly above, but I'm not at
home right now.
