My company will switch to IPV6 in the beginning of next year and i need

Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: vpopmail system quota for domain

2010-10-19 Thread Igor Smitran

 On 10/19/2010 4:57 PM, Eric Shubert wrote:
I think you would need to utilize *nix group permission capabilities
to make this work. The vpopmail user would need to be able to
access/update all of the directories in the /home/vpopmail/domains
branch. Either that, or if you have only one domain, put the system
quota on the vpopmail user.

It'd be simple enough to add test.com to the vchkpw group and turn on
group permissions under the /home/vpopmail/domains branch. You'd also
need to be sure that vpopmail creates things under that branch with
group bits set on (umask). If you're using IMAP, that complicates
things further.

Unless you absolutely need to have the capability ASAP, I'd wait for
v5.5 of vpopmail, which reportedly has fixed quotas. Quotas also work
better in v5.4.32, but I'm not confident that they're fixed entirely
in that version. TTBOMK vpopmail 5.5 is due to be included with QMT v2.

Or you could try vpopmail v5.5 with the existing QMT. I think your
efforts doing so would be more fruitful in the long run than trying to
implement system quotas.
That was my conclusion too. I was thinking of ACL for vpopmail user. I
will have to set ACL manualy but since i am the administrator that wont
be too hard. Also, i will try onchange feature to set ACL during domain
creation. Will let you know of the results. I will wait for 5.5 to be
stable before switching to it.

[qmailtoaster] vpopmail system quota for domain

2010-10-19 Thread Igor Smitran
Since vpopmail domain quota is not working properly i decided to RTFM
and found something interesting:

If you want to implement a quota for a whole domain, you have 2 options.
You can either put the domain under a unique system id and implement
system quotas, or (as of 5.3.18) you can use a non-system domain quota. To
implement the former, just use 'vadddomain -u ' and
set the system quota for that user.

I decided to give it a try and here is the result:

1. useradd test.com -d /home/vpopmail -s /sbin/nologin -M
2. vadddomain -u test.com test.com
3. user is created, given uid 1000 and gid 1000
4. domain is created with owner/group test.com/test.com
5. postmaster homedir is created with owner/group test.com/test.com
6. vdominfo displays correct info

sending mail from telnet goes well but mail never delivers, stays in queue.
after reading logs i see that directory permissions are stopping mail
delivery:
delivery 1: deferral:
Unable_to_switch_to_/home/vpopmail/domains/test.com:_access_denied._(#4.3.0)/

Has anyone tried to do this? What would be the right way to do this and
have system quotas work correctly?

[qmailtoaster] certificates and cluster

2010-08-17 Thread Igor Smitran

I have made a GFS active/active cluster of two qmail servers.
qmail is listening on 25 and 587, the rest is on dovecot (pop3,imap,
pop3s, imaps)

balancing is made with DNS, simple round robin.
I am wondering is there a way to use same certificate for two servers
without SSL warnings displayed by the client. Because of roundrobin
users get equal access to both servers and because those two servers
have their own ssl certificates MUA clients are displaying warnings
about certificates.

Anyone have an idea how to solve this problem?

After that i have tried to send an email through squirrelmail and it got
signed and sent to remote host. So, it was my mistake, i wasn't using
right syntax in my telnet session, although i've used same sequence before
on other mail servers and it worked but i don't think that those other
servers had dksign.

Unfortunately, same problem with cnt5064 install. Only difference is that
everything is working out of the box besides dksign problem.
Server is receving mail from outside, clamav works, spamassassin too. But,
when i try to send mail outside it gives me "554 qmail-dk: Cannot sign
message due to invalid message syntax. (#5.3.0)".
I am still testing this server so entire setup is with default settings.
Does anyone have same problem?

[qmailtoaster] x86_64 install

2010-07-26 Thread Igor Smitran
This is my first install on x86_64 platform and i have some issues:

1. i had to use much higher softlimit values and i was wondering did
anyone else had to use values so high:
imap4 > /usr/bin/softlimit -m 1800
imap4-ssl > /usr/bin/softlimit -m 3800
pop3 > /usr/bin/softlimit -m 1800
pop3-ssl > /usr/bin/softlimit -m 3800
smtp > /usr/bin/softlimit -m 5000
submission > /usr/bin/softlimit -m 5000

2. qmail-dk is not working, giving error "qmail-smtpd: qq hard reject
(qmail-dk: Cannot sign message due to invalid message syntax. (#5.3.0)):"

I have exactly the same 32-bit installation that works without any
problems, with default softlimit values and without qmail-dk errors.
Can anyone explain if i am doing something wrong here?

You are not the only one, i think there is a new virus out there, that
stealls passwords and sends them to his owner...
Anyway, for those specific users you can disable smtp-auth with vmoduser

After that call your users and tell them that you will reset their
passwords and ask them to get rid of viruses...

I think I would simply change the passwords as you find
they've been compromised. Either that or undertake a project
to change all passwords.

Are you using spamdyke? If so, since all your users are
authenticating, you should blacklist your own domain(s) in the
blacklist_senders file. This seems counter intuitive, but it
works since authenticated sessions bypass all filters. This
will keep outsiders from forging your domain, which should
help control phishing emails that solicit passwords.

You might also consider installing sane-security rules for
clamav (see qtp-install-sanesecurity script in QTP). That
helps to reject some phishing spams, although I don't know
that it'll catch the ones that have bitten you previously.

A little user education wouldn't hurt either. A well written
email might suffice.

Also, are they coming from a specific region? China, Korea, or?
Block the whole country with hosts.deny or iptables if so. Also, I
would change the password the admin for vqadmin if using it.
Perhaps they got access to it and printed out all the
usernames/passwords?

I'll see if I can nail them down to a specific area. Thanks.

I believe this is the response when you have been listed with
Barracuda's list.
Basically the other server says the domain in question has been
blasklisted and is not accepting emails from it. I am away from my

listed or not. Maybe someone else on the list can help you with this.

[qmailtoaster] clean trash again

2010-03-23 Thread Igor Smitran
I am sorry if this was mentioned before but after i wrote yet another
clean trash script (i am sorry Eric if ofended you in any way, it realy
wasn't my intention to do that in any way, my only gold was to make a
humble contribution) i used a google and read courier documentation.

Now, i have setup courier to automaticaly clean trash upon user login.
Problem is that courier has two conf files for imap: /etc/courier/imapd
and /etc/courier/imapd-ssl

in both those files should be this:

IMAP_TRASHFOLDERNAME=Trash
IMAP_EMPTYTRASH=Trash:7
IMAP_MOVE_EXPUNGE_TO_TRASH=0

After this restart imapd and imapd-ssl. Courier will scan Trash dir for
any file that has ctime older than 7 days. Pay attention, CTIME, not
MTIME or ATIME. So, mail will be deleted 7 days after user puts it
there, upon user login.

Jake, can we have this settings merged into new toaster package. They
can be commented but should be there. Also, maybe some sort of info for
users that imapd and imapd-ssl have different config files. I learned
this by changing imapd config while testing on imapd-ssl :) Everything
was working in squirrelmail but nothing was working in my Thunderbird :)

These changes complitely eliminated need for qtp-clean-trash for me...

I am sorry for my bad english. Complicated sentences are too hard for me :)

Re: [qmailtoaster] still domain pop

2010-03-23 Thread Igor Smitran
You are obviously not reading all our emails. I have told you to search
for smarthost option and yet you are again talking about mail poping
from main server.
You need to setup mdaemon to forward all emails destined to example.com
to your qmail server. qmail doesn't have to do anything. Mail will get
to him.

Let us imagine that instead of MDaemon your fornt mail server is qmail:
1. in your /var/qmail/control/smtproutes file put one line:
your.domain.name:your.qmail.server

That's it.

I see that you are lazy. Even though i never used MDaemon it took me 1
minute to use google and find what you need to do:

[quote]
We most commonly see MDaemon used in tandem with Wingate to provide
email and general Internet connectivity. If this is your case, you
should also make sure your Wingate proxy is not accessible from outside
your LAN (such that spammers can't access your ISP's mail server via
your proxy!) One way to accomplish this is programming Wingate not to
proxy for connections on Port 25. You can use MDaemon to relay your mail
instead.

Choose the Setup / Primary Domain menu in MDaemon's configuration
program. Look for a Domain / Gateway dialogue that lets you specify
wether MDaemon handles mail delivery itself or instead forwards the mail
to another server.

[/quote]

So, if i got it right, all you need to do is write your domain name in
one field and gateway address (your qmail server address) in another.
After that MDaemon will forward all emails destined to your domain to
your qmail server.

There's been an increase in spam lately, according to my server's

For habitual spammy servers, I block them in iptables. You can also

[qmailtoaster] clean trash suggestion

2010-03-18 Thread Igor Smitran
Eric, i made a php version of qtp-clean-trash. It is much faster because
it doesn't use find as much as your shell script.

It is written in php and it supports mysql 4 and 5 and php 4 and 5.
The reason i am talking about php and mysql version is because i am
using centos 4 and 5.
It uses database to find all user dirs. Also, i think that ./Trash/new

Feel free to use it if you want.

I have tried RoundCube and it is ok, although it doesn't have as many

As far as other open source solutions:
1. Zimbra needs Apache Tomcat (doesn't work for me)
2. @mail open source is bad solution, without any support from
development team, not even on their forums. I will never try that
software again. Not to mention that i wasn't even able to install it
without changing part of installer and even then it was bad...
3. AfterLogic looks nice but it doesn't have addressbook and calendar in
open source version, as far as i can remember...
4. never tried hastymail, but i think that newest version is from
december 2008. almost a year ago.

So, for now our only solution is squirrelmail or roundcube. Squirrelmail
has more features, roundcube looks nicer... :)

Your mailbox on the server is now more than 90% full. So that you
can continue

to receive mail you need to remove some messages from your mailbox.

I haven't seen this kind of quota warnings issued before. Also a
strange thing is that the user's quota is nowhere near full (it's
about 11%).

I checke and the quota warning message template is
~vpopmail/domains/.quotawarn.msg there.

If I remove it, will it disable these false alarms?

Or is there a way to configure the warning messages so, that they
actually are sent when user is near exceeding her quota?

Best,
Peter

Removing the file will cause no messages to be sent, regardless of
quota level.
Just out of curiosity, can you see what the user's actual disk usage
is? I know there have been some "bugs" with quotas in the past and am
wondering if it's not counting actual drive usage in vpopmail, but
only the inbox folders in Squirrelmail.
Hopefully the next release of vpopmail will resolve some of the bugs
with quotas.

Bad news: quotas are broken on QMT. I'm not sure to what extent. Easy
fix is to change their account to unlimited. :(

Good news: quotas work better in a more recent vpopmail release
(5.4.28 I think) than what is in QMT. This is not a simple upgrade
though, as I think there is a small database change somewhere between
QMT's version (5.4.17) and 5.4.28.

Better news: quotas have reportedly been really fixed in vpopmail 5.5.
I will be working on packaging vpopmail-5.5 for QMT when it's
available (with LDAP), which I expect will be in the first quarter of
'10.

I am not sure what are you talking about. Quota in latest QMT is broken?
But, i have installed latest QMT on one of my servers and as far as i
can see quota is ok. Quota warnings are sent and mails refused if user
is overquota. latest vpopmail in qmt is 5.4.17.
Should i be warried? Currently i have few thousands of users on that
server...
Also, squirrelmail is displaying correct quota usage, no matter where
email was saved. Same goes for roundcube.

Yes, centos dovecot doesn't include --with-vpopmail. But, on dovecot.org
you can download latest src.rpm for RHEL. I was using that version, in
spec file i just added --with-vpopmail and everything is working very well
for now. In earlier dovecot versions the one was forced to insert mysql
queries or call external scripts to make it read quotas or create dirs. In
1.2.6 there is no need for that.

Here is my config file for dovecot 1.2.6, you can see autocreate
directive. Basicaly, if you are using squirrelmail you don't need it at
all because i think squirrelmail creates those dirs automaticaly?

cat /etc/dovecot.conf

protocols = imap imaps
disable_plaintext_auth = no
log_path = /var/log/dovecot.log
login_user = dovecot
login_greeting = IMAP/IMAPS server ready
mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir
first_valid_uid = 89
last_valid_uid = 89
first_valid_gid = 89
last_valid_gid = 89
protocol imap {
  mail_plugins = autocreate quota imap_quota
  mail_plugin_dir = /usr/lib/dovecot/imap
}
auth default {
  mechanisms = plain login cram-md5 digest-md5
  passdb vpopmail {
   args = webmail=127.0.0.1
  }
  userdb vpopmail {
   args = quota_template=quota_rule=*:backend=%q
  }
  user = vpopmail
  count = 1
}
plugin {
  autocreate = Trash
  autocreate2 = Spam
  autocreate3 = Drafts
  autocreate4 = Sent
  autosubscribe = Trash
  autosubscribe2 = Spam
  autosubscribe3 = Drafts
  autosubscribe4 = Sent

I was not able to make it work with repo dovecot. But, i've downloaded
dovecot.1.2.6.src.rpm from dovecot.org. After compiling and installing it
took me few minutes to make it work with qmailtoaster. Dovecot is able to
read vpopmail maildirsize and quota id displayed correctly. Also, with
dovecot autocreate plugin i was able to force creation and subscription of
Spam/Trash/Sent/Drafts folders. Plugin checks if given folders exists upon
login and if not it creates them. Roundcube was able to pick up folders
without my intervention (i don't have squirrelmail installed so i don't
know if squirrelmail would work with default toaster settings). So, as far
as i can see qmailtoaster is able to work with dovecot out of the box.
Also, so far, i think that dovecot is much faster than courier and uses
lot less resources. But, i will have to test that more.

Isn't port 25 needed for incoming mails? If you block port 25 how will some

For example, if [EMAIL PROTECTED] wants to send you an email then he will
come to your port 25 and deliver the email. He will not be able to do smtp
auth because he is not your user.

Or am i wrong?

Subject: [qmailtoaster] bzip2: Data integrity error when decompressing
vpopmail

hello group,

We have been loading a new computer with CentOS 5.0 and all the latest
updates. We loaded the latest stable Qmailtoaster (1.03-1.3.15) files
using the install scripts for CentOS 5.0 and then added some squirrelmail
plugins.

We are trying to bring over the data from our old qmailtoaster computer
(CentOS 4.1 with qmailtoaster 1.03-1.2.7) but are getting the following
errors when we are uncompressing the vpopmail.tar.bz2 file by running the
command
tar jxvf /tmp/backup/*-vpopmail.tar.bz2

bzip2: Data integrity error when decompressing.
   Input file = (stdin), output file = (stdout)

It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted.
You can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files.

You can use the `bzip2recover' program to attempt to recover
data from undamaged sections of corrupted files.

tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

It had gone through expanding a lot of the files before we got the error.

We have implemented the backup script from the qmailtoaster site and been
backing up the data files, directories and databases on a daily basis. The
vpopmail.tar.bz2 file is approximately 840 MB. The old qmailtoaster
computer just had a CD burner so we sent the files off the computer by ftp
to another computer and burned the files to a DVD. The new qmailtoaster
computer has a DVD burner.

After receiving the bz2 error we tried manually running the command to
backup the vpopmail directory on the old qmailtoaster computer:
tar cfvj vopmail.tar.gz2 /home/vpopmail/domains

Again, we ftped the .tar.bz2 file off to our backup server and burned to
a DVD. When we tries uncompressing the file, we got the same error, again
after it had gone through uncompressing a lot of the files.

Then we put a DVD burner in the old qmailtoaster server and burned the
afternoon copy of vpopmail.tar.bz2 to DVD. When we tried to expand it on
our new qmailtoaster server we got the same error, but after just
uncompressing a few files worth.

Then we burned this morning's copy of *.vpopmail.tar.bz2 from the auto
process of the backup script and it did the same thing. It gave the error
after only processing a few lines.

Other information:
-

The old server is still functioning fine, with the exception of the error
when we try to uncompress the backup file on a separate machine.

The vopmail.tar.bz2 file is about 840 MB.

Trying to expand it in /tmp/backup directory before moving the data to
/home/vpopmail/domains on the new server.

We went through a similar process about a month ago when we had to restore
information on the old computer when it had a problem, but that time it
restored just fine on the CentOS 4.1 machine and we did not have any bz2
errors. The vpopmail directory was approximately the same size as now.

QUESTIONS:
---

1) How do we get around this problem?

2) Are there other logs (on the old server or the new server) that we
should look at to help troubleshoot?

3) Is there another way to backup the vpopmail directory that is more
reliable at uncompressing large files (>840 MB) than creating tar.bz2
files? If so what are the commands to compress and uncompress?

4) Is there an easy way to recover from the bz2 errors? When we were
googling, it looks very time consuming and difficult.

When we tried searching the qmailtoaster archives and googling, we were
unable to see solutions.

Sorry this is so long, but we are trying to make this as detailed as
possible because others may run into this same problem. Not sure if it is
related to the CentOS 5.0 or not.

Thanks

Problem is this: when your client gets virus virus
sends himself in a way that he mades direct connection to remote mail server,
port 25. When lot of complaints gets to one of RBL's you have your machine
blocked.

All you need to do is to add iptables drop in
forward chain, something like this:

iptables -I FORWARD 1 -i ethx -p tcp -s
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/24 --dport 25 -j DROP

number 1 means that this rule will be first rule in
chain
ethx is your nated interface
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/24 is your nated
network

If you want your clients to be able to send mails
put one ACCEPT rule before this DROP, to allow connections to YOUR mail
server.

Frankly, it's probably easier to convey a problem in a native language,
and if the one person on the list that could have helped them can't
understand their question, then it's their loss not yours... I'm sure
if you asked a question in English, you'd get an English answer, or
someone would translate it for you. But it sounds like there are enough
bilingual people that can handle Spanish questions, and if you see a
Spanish topic, there is always the delete key... :P

Am I wrong in asking if Qmail Toaster software (and/or Toaster support)
is limited to US citizens only? And if not, why is it wrong to speak in
their native tongue(s)? (And not to be impertinent, but I'm not sure
why you sound insulted by this?)

[qmailtoaster] sa-learn

2006-10-15 Thread Igor Smitran
At the momemt i am using 2 mail servers. One of them is qmailtoaster and one
is vanilla qmail. Those two servers are primary and secondary MX for all my
domains. In next few months i will try to find the time to transfer vanila
qmail/mailbox to qmailtoaster so then i will have two qmailtoasters. But,
for the time being i was wondering what happens with next scenario:

1. qmailtoaster is having top concurrency and he denies connection
2. new connection is made to secondary mail server (vanila qmail)
3. secondary mail server accepts email and puts it into queue
4. primary mail server is free and secondary mail server sends his emails to
primary

5. some of those emails are spam
6. admin uses sa-learn and puts those mails into spam database

Nothing bad with this scenario i think, but my question is:
since secondary email server ip address and name are in those spam mails
headers, will that confuse spamassassin so that he thinks that secondary
mail server is spam friendly. If that is true then i am in big trouble :)

Thank you,
Igor

I am not sure how can one learn linux or anything about computers not

Please take notes, and post updates to the wiki page at

This page really needs some work. Please don't worry about your English

along

later and do some editing.

Thanks, Igor.

I am planning to do that during quiet winter days when i am not burdened by

[qmailtoaster] qmailadmin quota privileges

2006-10-14 Thread Igor Smitran

Since qmailadmin, vpopmail and squirellmail don't
cooperate very well if user quota is changed after initial setup i was wondering
if there is a way to forbid postmaster of some domain to change user quotas? Is
there a way to have default quota for every user on a virtual domain and at the
same time to forbid postmaster to change quota per user and even to set user
quota when opening new account, but instead that every new email account has
default user quota which postmaster can't change?

I am sorry if my english is confusing you. If you
don't understand my russian english please ask me to clarify :) i will do my
best to achieve that :)

That being said, I think I'd try creating a new test domain using
/home/vpopmain/bin/vadddomain, and see if that comes up on signon. I'm
thinking there might be something amiss with the domain you're logging on
to. Give it a try, and that might help narrow things down.

Problem solved by reinstalling entire toaster package. But, i would like to

I just bought my first dedicated server (Fedora Core 5). In addition
to hosting client sites on the server I want it to function as a mail

I don't know much about mail servers...
& I don't want to spend a lot of time with configuration but I want a
good, solid solution.

Can qmailtoaster function as a mail server for all of the virtual
hosts on my machine? Sending and Recieving? Is it what i'm looking
for? Are there any other solutions I should check into? xmail?

Thanks in advance for your time / knowledge / links.

Yes, qmailtoaster is complete solution for you, but you do need to configure
it or pay someone to do that for you. There is no out of the box solution...
or you can buy hosting service with cpanel and then configure your own mail
server with few clicks

pop3 activity is also logged in /var/log/maillog. Anything odd in maillog?
Also, it could be that for some reason pop3 can't delete old messages. file
system privileges changed? you realy didn't give enough data i think.

For now i have real users on a server and they authenticate as
username/password. All virtual domains are just forwards to some real
username on my machine or on another domain.

If i move all real users to database is there a way to authenticate
them as username/password, not email/password? And for all virtual
domains to have email/password authentication?

I don't know for sure. If real users are separate domain from virtual
domain, I would think that it'd be possible.

So, let us say that i have domain.net and user abc. domain.net is
local Also i have domain2.net and user abc. domain2.net is virtual

if [EMAIL PROTECTED] wants to check his email he will send abc/password.
But, if user [EMAIL PROTECTED] wants to check his email he will send
[EMAIL PROTECTED]/password

Is there a way to accomplish this? I need this so that my real users
don't have to change their configs. They just continue to use samo
config like nothing changed. I don't have that much virtual domains
and i will be able to manage those by phone or email.

I hope i was clear with what i want. English language is giving me
hard time :)

That explains it pretty well. I'd be interested in something like
this too. Instead of having real users though, I'd like to have a
default virtual domain that is used when users fail to specify a
domain. Perhaps this is possible.

Thank you,
Igor

I've read documentation and found a solution:

--enable-default-domain=name Default domain name, default is null.
 We recommend you run all your email as virtual domains. You can pick one
domain to be the default. If you have just one domain set it with this
option. The default domain name users can authenticate with just their user
name, and don't need to use %.

Sorry for spamming the list with no reason :(

some kind of apache 1 switch?

[qmailtoaster] realrcptto

2006-08-19 Thread Igor Smitran

Hello all,
i am new here. I am preparing myself to give qmailtoaster a try. For now i
have only one question. Is there a way to drop message imidiately without
sending bounce, if recipient does not exist.
I am using clean qmail for now, patched with realrcptto patch and i can't
live without that patch. Before that patch i was close to denial of service
because thousands of bounces were waiting to be delivered to remote
computers. They were very often double bounces so they were returned to me
at the end multiplying my server burden by two.
So, i don't want to bounce messages like original qmail, i want to give it
permanent error "mailbox does not exist". I was reading about chkuser but i
would like realrcptto also to be used...

Thank you all,

Igor
