2007-07-29 Thread Nichole Rohling
SUPPOSEDLY THEY HAULED IT ON A TRUCK TO AND FROM. I PROBABLY NEED TO CHECK THE
MILEAGE!
THE ONLY THING VANCE IS DOING IS THE EZ LOCKS AND FITTING CONTROLS - HOUSTON
DID ALL INSTALLATION OF IDS. VOC REHAB HAD NO IDEA NEWBY VANCE WAS SENDING TO
HOUSTON.

VOC REHAB INIATED BID PROCESS, NEWBY VANCE HAD LOWEST AND SO THAT'S WHERE IT
WENT.

Thanks for the update. I'm more confused, thanks (lol)

You mentioned Freedom Wheels in Houston and then Newby Vance Mobiity in OK.
Both dealers are approved as IDS dealers.

Voc Rehab, controls the contract as they are the payee. So contractually,
Voc Rehab takes the lead on all approvals and changes to the original contract.

How did your IMS van get to OK and Houston?
Were all systems installed at one location or shared between Freedom and
Vance Mobility.
What has Voc Rehab suggested at this point?

Once you have all of your facts in timeline and verified
If these dealers are NMEDA, you have the right to arbitration after all is
said
and done. This won't apply to the time because of the weather, but rather
all that
doesn't work and that which is missing.

2007-07-29 Thread John S.
I'm just saying, if you use enough amps you will not only eliminate a quad gut,
but also eliminate anything in your bowels and bladder and possibly forget why
you did it to begin with ;->.
There was a Doctor at wright state that had quads on big wheels by using
Electromuscular stimulation. nobody in his program had a gut, I'm guessing that
his studies got him a fellowship to some pergatory university after he married
his top student. A C-7 that was very attractive, but you don't marry your
projects. I'm looking to find anything about what he was using. Specifically,
milliamps to electrodes. You may want to ask your doctor. I
I wouldn't be surprized to find out someone on this list knows a lot about EMS.
It was done to many quads in 80's and 90's to get baseline information.
If you gain about 50lbs nobody will notice a quad gut under all that fat.
Whatever you decide, I hope you have fun and keep us informed.

  Hi Nicki,
You are a victim of the McDonald Syndrome, if you get my drift. But I still
feel for your situation.
The retail end of the conversion industry has been known to oversell their
capabilities and finished product when massed produced. And that is not good.

Taking a brand new or slightly used van, and redesigning it is really not
that easy. The more complex the need, the more difficult to produce the finish
product. And this is under perfect conditions. Granted, under near perfect
conditions, it does take 4-8 weeks of time. That can also be affected by
conditions that you have no control over, like weather, supply of conversion
supplies, how many conversions are scheduled for that month and if the
companies are paying their bills.

its like going to McDonalds and buying a large soft drink and then finding
out there are no straws, lol.
Wait its McDonalds. And they have NO STRAWS that day. It happens,
believe me. And you can't drinks a 40 oz drink on a hot day without a straw.

I'm hoping that your base van was approved and is suitable for conversion
with enough wheelbase and the heavy duty towing package options. Without it,
it could add several additional weeks to the conversion process. Ah, the
weather. How can you change or affect the weather. We all know that Houston
has had some bad weather, but who in Houston is doing the actual conversion?
Definitely, not Braun. They are in Indiana. So when the weather is that bad
and Houston is under water, how do employees get to work and finish your van.
Major conversion factories have computers and people to operate them. When a
vehicle is entered into their system, you can or the dealer can follow the
progress of the conversion until they see/read released for shipment to
dealer/customer. Conversions done by garage mechanicals, don't have that luxury.
Often the conversion process is broken down into 36-40 steps and the normal
time it takes to perform each step. You've got to remember that a radical
conversion on a mini van requires your van to start at the upholstery shop when
the van is completely disassembled. Anything that can be scratched or burn
must be removed, before the conversion process can be scheduled. The van may
then go to fabrication shop. The van is introduced to the FAB Shop almost
naked with no insides, except a wiring harness. Doors, windows and interior
are completely removed. Fuel tank and exhaust system must be removed before
the floor can be processed. A new fuel cell and exhaust must be ordered too.
Wiring must be relocated and secured before the cutting of the floor can begin.
A van can be stuck in the FAB Shop for weeks, making sure that everything
comes together correctly. Then you have inspections along the way. At the
Braun factory, at critical steps of fabrication, a representative inspects the
chassis to ensure that all is still well, before the van goes on to the next
step. Once the conversion process has taken place and passes inspection,
painted and cleared, it goes back to upholstery shop and everything is put back
in or reassembled.

Now I've made this sound much easier than it really is and my point is that a
company does not proceed to step 15 if Step 14 isn't completed, tested and
passes inspection.

Once a vehicle passes all test and inspections and released to dealer, it
must be transported back to that dealer somewhere in the USA. Some factories
only ship once a month. Others may ship once a week.
And that truck load may travel a thousand miles before your van is received
at the Mobility Dealer. Once the Mobility Dealer receives it and checks
everything out. It is determine if any other adaptive equipment is needed and
must be installed. Now this takes additional time and will vary. (AND WE ALL
KNOW THAT TIME IS YOUR MINEY)

OK, when a problem is discovered, it has to be determine if its an OEM
problem or a Conversion problem.
If its OEM then a OEM rep has to come out and verify the problem. If its a
conversion problem, the conversion company is contacted and arrangement are
made for the Mobility Dealer to resolve/fix the problem and ch

Case management plays a vital role for many people moving out of nursing
homes, as well as many people with significant disabilities who may not have
informal supports. This action could result in harmful discrimination against
people with more significant disabilities.

Dear Community Services Supporters:

CMS has been developing new Case Management regulations over the last few
months in response to some of the changes in the Deficit Reduction Act.

Rumor has it they will be published as Interim Final Rules in the beginning of
August.

Word has been spreading, though nothing specific, that the new rules will
roll back all the progressive advances CMS allowed in Case Management and
Targeted Case Management that had been allowed for States to use to get folks
out of institutions since the Olmstead letters in 2000. In addition there
will be major changes in how Case Management will be paid for in HCBS
waivers.

If these rumors are accurate it appears CMS (maybe directed by OMB) will not
only be undercutting their own MFP initiative but also the whole New Freedom
Initiative and Olmstead initiatives.

What is ironic is that many in the community thought CMS was going to give
States more flexibility because getting and keeping folks out of institutions
needs intensive service coordination and Case Management and TCM are two ways
States can get help in paying for that service.

ACTION NEEDED:

1. Spread the word in your community that these rules are coming out and when
they are published we need a loud outcry from aging and disability advocates;

needs intensive service coordination and Case Management and TCM are two ways
States can get help in paying for that service.

ACTION NEEDED:

1. Spread the word in your community that these rules are coming out and when
they are published we need a loud outcry from aging and disability advocates;

[QUAD-L] Re Fwd: Medicare Advantage Plans are not a 'Lifeline' for Medicare Beneficiaries

2007-07-26 Thread DAANOO

** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at
http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
--- Begin Message ---
INTRODUCTION

Congress has begun debating what to do about overpayments to the Medicare
Advantage plans offered by private insurance companies under Medicare Part C.
As a result, it is likely that scare tactics about what will happen to
beneficiaries if funding is reduced to levels closer to the costs of
traditional Medicare will increase as well. One such tactic is to insist that
payment cuts would result in "the end of a lifeline" for beneficiaries.

Contrary to what private insurance companies tell their enrollees, the general
public, and Members of Congress as part of these scare tactics, Medicare
beneficiaries will not be left without any health care coverage if funding is
cut for Medicare Advantage plans. All Medicare beneficiaries will still receive
coverage under Medicare, without filing another application and without going
through a waiting period for pre-existing conditions. The traditional Medicare
program never abandons beneficiaries. It is the real "lifeline."

Congress included provisions in the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 (BBA) to help
ensure that Medicare beneficiaries have a seamless transition in their health
care coverage if private insurance plans decide to stop contracting with
Medicare, regardless of the reason for this business decision. If a private
insurance company decides to eliminate its Medicare Advantage plans as a result
of possible changes to the Medicare Advantage funding structure, beneficiaries
will be able to take advantage of these protections.

BBA PROTECTIONS

Medicare beneficiaries can return to traditional Medicare or choose another
Medicare Advantage plan if their Medicare Advantage plan leaves Medicare.

-- Coverage under a Medicare Advantage plan that is terminating its contract
with Medicare continues until the end of the calendar year when the Medicare
contract ends.
-- The traditional Medicare program will continue to be available to all
Medicare beneficiaries.
-- Beneficiaries who return to traditional Medicare can choose, and enroll
in, a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan without paying a late penalty.
-- Those who wish to purchase a Medigap policy have specific rights
protecting their ability to do so.
-- Beneficiaries will continue to receive services for pre-existing
conditions without having to go through a waiting period.
-- Beneficiaries, including those with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), may
join another Medicare Advantage plan if another plan is offered in their region.

Medicare beneficiaries make their decision about how to receive their health
and drug coverage during the next annual enrollment period, which runs from
November 31- December 31.

-- Beneficiaries are automatically returned to traditional Medicare unless
they choose a different Medicare Advantage plan. They do not have to file a
separate application for traditional Medicare.
-- Beneficiaries who decide to enroll in a different Medicare Advantage plan
must enroll by December 31.
-- Beneficiaries who decide to return to traditional Medicare and who want
prescription drug coverage must choose, and enroll in, a Medicare Part D
prescription drug plan by December 31.

Coverage under the new Medicare Advantage plan or in traditional Medicare and a
prescription drug plan becomes effective January 1.
Medicare beneficiaries aged 65 and older may purchase a Medigap policy.

-- Beneficiaries aged 65 and older whose Medicare Advantage plan terminated
service are guaranteed issuance of Medigap Plans A, B, C or F.
-- Beneficiaries must purchase a Medigap policy within 63 days of the
termination of their Medicare Advantage plan.
-- Some states have additional provisions that give beneficiaries age 65 and
older more choices of Medigap policies or that extend protections to Medicare
beneficiaries younger than age 65.

CONCLUSION

Beneficiaries, their families and their advocates should not be fooled by cries
that a reduction in overpayments to private insurance plans will leave older
people and people with disabilities without any health care coverage. The
traditional Medicare program worked for decades without any interference from
private insurance companies. All Medicare beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare
Advantage plans currently have this traditional, uniform, and stable Medicare
program as a reliable option for coverage. That might not be the case if
Congress continues to pay Medicare Advantage plans more money, thereby
hastening the projected insolvency of Medicare.

Congress needs to keep traditional Medicare, the real healthcare lifeline,
strong. End overpayments to private plans and increase reimbursements for
health care providers under traditional Medicare to ensure uniform, nationally
available coverage for our elders and people with disabilities.

Dear Dana,

The Senate Finance Committee, in an unusual display of unity
across party lines, overwhelmingly approved legislation
yesterday to provide health care to 4 million American children
who would otherwise be left without it.

In response, President George Bush declared he would veto the
bill.

Please call 1-800-828-0498 or email your Senators and
Representative and urge them to oppose the President and pass a
children's health bill that protects America's kids.

The President's threat has even startled Republican Senate
leaders Chuck Grassley and Orrin Hatch who earlier called it,
"disappointing, even a little unbelievable." (7/12/07)

Unfortunately, the other group who stands to be disappointed by
this Presidential threat is the 4 million American children
whose healthy development depend on the regular check-ups and
care the President's veto will deny them.

The bill approved today by the Senate Committee provides $35
billion in new money for children's health. This falls short of
the amount promised in the Congressional budget and still leaves
way too many children without coverage.

Still, for the mothers and fathers of 4 million American
children this bill quite literally represents the answer to
their prayers.

That's why the full Senate must pass the Committee's proposal.

And there's reason for optimism that the House of
Representatives will improve on the children's health bill when
they take up the issue in the next week or so.

Please call 1-800-828-0498 or email your Senators and House
Representative and urge them to oppose the President and pass a
children's health bill that protects the health of America's
children. [http://www.familiesusa.org/resources/action-center/]

And the winner of the Climate
Virtual Town Hall is...
Last week, we held the
first-ever forum with
presidential candidates devoted
entirely to the climate crisis.
Here are how members ranked the
candidates' plans: (remember,
this does not imply a MoveOn
endorsement):

Sen. John Edwards--33.10%
Rep. Dennis Kucinich--15.73%
Sen. Hillary Clinton--15.71%
Sen. Barack Obama--15.03%
Gov. Bill Richardson--12.60%
Sen. Joe Biden--3.06%
Sen. Chris Dodd--3.01%
Sen. Mike Gravel--1.78%

Dear MoveOn member,

What would a third Bush term look like? Endless war in Iraq, continued
torture and spying, more ultra-conservative judges, more and more people
without health care, and so on ... it'd be awful.

But that's impossible, right? Well, maybe not. Every Republican candidate
for president is trying to distinguish himself from Bush, but the major
candidates would carry forward Bush's core agenda:

  * President Giuliani would support a second escalation of the war in
Iraq.1
  * President Romney would double the size of the Guantanamo Bay prison.2
  * President McCain would bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.3
  * President Fred Thompson would have offered Scooter Libby a full
pardon.4

We can make sure the Bush era ends in 2008. But it means starting now, not
next year: building strength in key neighborhoods, creating cutting-edge
tools for volunteers, and designing the most sophisticated voter turnout
effort progressives have ever run.

We need to start ASAP, but we can only afford it if 1,500 folks sign up to
contribute monthly between now and 2008. Can you chip in $15 a month to
make sure we put a progressive in the White House? It's easy--we bill your
credit card each month, and you can cancel any time. Click here:

http://pol.moveon.org/donate/victory2008.html?id=10802-8044979-EbpWR9&t=2

The earliest we would hold a vote to endorse a candidate is the fall. So,
why start now? Right now, most people are thinking about who's going to
win the primary, but if we wait until there's a nominee before we start
planning for the general election, it will be too late. Starting early
will give us a critical leg up by allowing us to:

  * Advance progressive issues in the presidential primaries;
  * Train volunteers to counter the Republicans' messages through local
media;
  * Find neighborhood leaders to form the backbone of a massive voter
turnout effort;
  * Create new high-tech tools to connect volunteers directly with swing
voters and people who might not vote without a reminder;
  * Show targeted TV advertisements in swing districts;
  * Run the most sophisticated progressive voter turnout and persuasion
program ever.

Here's the thing: If we're going to make ambitious plans to win, we need
to know we'll have the funds to make them happen. Your monthly
contribution of $15 (you can cancel easily whenever you choose), along
with matching donations from 2,500 other MoveOn members, will create a
strong foundation for Victory 2008. Please donate now:

Dear Dana,

Shocking even the staunchest Republicans in the Senate,
President Bush has threatened to veto a bipartisan bill to
provide health care to millions of American children who
desperately need it.

Even more surprising was his advice to the 9 million uninsured
children and 36 million uninsured adults should they ever have
the misfortune of getting sick while he's still President: Go to
the emergency room.

"I mean, people have access to health care in America. After
all, you just go to an emergency room." - President George W.
Bush (Cleveland, 7/10/07)

Senator Charles Grassley, Republican leader of the Finance
Committee, and Senator Orrin Hatch, Republican leader of the
Subcommittee on Health, couldn't believe the President's veto
threat and issued the following rebuke to the leader of their
Party.

"Its disappointing, even a little unbelievable, to hear talk
about Administration officials wanting a veto of a legislative
proposal they haven't even seen yet - because it isn't even
finalized yet. The President ought to give Congress a chance to
offer a proposal first. As Republican leaders on the committee
of jurisdiction, we've been working day and night to reach an
agreement on children's health insurance legislation because it
is imperative that this important program, which has helped so
many children, be continued."

In a move that would snatch access to medicine out of the hands
of children who currently have it, President Bush is pushing to
reduce funding for children's health to only 10% of the amount
that Congress budgeted earlier this year.

Call 1-800-828-0498 or click here to send an email to Congress:
http://ga3.org/ct/wdSxI371uzD-/.

Please urge your Senators and Representative to oppose President
Bush's war on children and support full funding for Children's
Health.

Thank you,

Jeff Gordon
Field Director

I am sorry for sending you email such as I did. It's just that I feel like I
am being blackmailed into doing so, because it states that so many persons died
after not doing so (sending it to 10 people, that is).

Please, anyone who reads this...Do Not send me emails that direct me to send

I will delete almost all OT email, unless I can tell from the caption what it

There are many plants beside corn that could provide the starch for the beer to
make ethanol, however, our politicians, in a burst of stupidity decided only to
subsidize ethanol made with corn. They refuse to eliminate price supports for
sugar growers and are doing all they can to ruin any attempt to ween America
off oil. This is not a republican or democrat issue. Its an issue of who gives
more money to political parties. If the old saying, "fool me once, shame on

hostage by its own corporate success.

Corn does not make up a large part of a dairy cows diet and can easily be
replaced by any other starchy foods.
The fact that fuel ethanol must be made from corn and sugar will eventually
cause some problems with corn and sugar prices.
The reason milk costs so much is because of massive mismanagement of the
agriculture department. I don't think they will even try to deny it. In 1987 it
cost a dairy farmer 12.02 cents to produce 12.00 worth of milk. This caused a
huge number of dairy farms to go under. In the 90's they started using BGH
(Bovine Growth Hormone) at all the big dairy farms and it causes cows to
produce immense amounts of milk but there's a minor drawback, it also causes
mastitis. (can you say "Got puss") Tons of antibiotics wiped out mom and pop
that had tried to keep up in dairy farms. Those that could sold dairy cows for
beef. Now 90 some percent of farms are corporate owned and cows are not being
replaced at the rate they die off or retire from milking. Can you say, "price
increase".
The easy way to deal with it is to stop drinking milk from the wrong animals
tit. Or buy a cow. For $3.00 a gallon I can goats milk.
Your all welcome to blame whoever you like, but those of you in the midwest
already know that most big farms are owned by corporate america and the small

My husband went to pick up milk last night and it was $5.50 a gallon! That
is over twice the amount that usually is! The lady at the checkout told him
that it was because of the corn (you know... the food the cows need) .

My husband began to tell her that no, it is not the corn, it is just
because you CAN charge what you are charging just like all the gasoline
stations. There is no oil shortage anywhere and our deficit has nothing to do
with that either!

Everyone loves to point the finger and play the blame game. Of course
their fingers never get pointed towards themselves God forbid!

Bill or W please post this to the list for others. One day I will

SCHIP (State Children's Health Insurance Program)
In considering the pending reauthorization of the State Children's Health
Insurance Program (SCHIP), some have recommended that Congress use federal
funds to subsidize the purchase of private health insurance rather than to
expand
public health programs such as Medicaid or SCHIP. _Comparing Public and
Private Health Insurance for Children_ (http://www.cbpp.org/5-11-07health.htm)

provides evidence that public health coverage is less expensive than private
insurance and provides comparable, and in some cases better, access to health
care for children. (Center on Budget and Policy Priorities)
A proposal under consideration in Congress would help finance an expansion
of children's health coverage by reducing the overpayments to private health
insurance companies that participate in Medicare. Insurance companies are
waging an aggressive campaign to defend these overpayments, arguing that
low-income and minority beneficiaries rely disproportionately on the private
health
plans in Medicare and that the overpayments are used to provide extra
benefits not available through regular Medicare. _Curbing Medicare
Overpayments to

provide hands-on assistance in navigating that process. (Commonwealth Fund)
In the United States, nearly 7 million people under the age of 65 qualify
for Medicare due to severe and permanent disabilities. However, these
individuals must wait two years after they are deemed eligible for Social

The Community Choice Act would establish community-based services in all

that forces hundreds of thousands of people with disabilities in nursing
facilities and other institutions.
Despite the Supreme Court's Olmstead decision, which affirmed that people

When ADAPT was in Washington, DC, in early May, Senator Max Baucus gave his

Dear MoveOn member,

Coming to a theater near you this weekend! A summer blockbuster
about...health care?

Michael Moore's new movie, Sicko, could put health care at the top of the
nation's political agenda--and we can help. If opening weekend is a
success, lots more people will go see Sicko. It's a great movie--poignant
at times, funny at others.

Can you pledge to see Sicko this weekend and bring your friends and family
along? The theater and showtimes near you are in the box on the right.
Click here to watch the movie trailer and sign up:

http://pol.moveon.org/sickopledge/?id=10633-8044979-PB2iIE&t=2

We'll report to the media the number of people who pledge to attend.

When you go see Sicko, you'll hear true stories like these:

  * A middle-class couple with insurance move into their daughter's
basement after cancer forces them into bankruptcy.
  * An American woman goes undercover in Canada in search of prescription
drugs for her illness.
  * Richard Nixon's secret White House tapes reveal he decided to
authorize the first HMOs because "the less care they give them, the
more money they make."
  * A doctor employed by an insurance company testifies before Congress
about letting a man die to save her company money--then getting a
promotion.

Like most of Michael Moore's movies, this one has a point of view. It's an
argument to change our failing health care system. And it comes just in
time.

The next president will have to take on health care. Several 2008
candidates--John Edwards, Dennis Kucinich, and Barack Obama--have plans to
guarantee affordable health care for everyone with a public insurance
option. These are the most forward-thinking proposals ever seen in a
presidential race.
But the HMOs, big health insurers, and drug companies are busy trying to
buy off White House hopefuls with lots of campaign cash. They want to keep
making billions by denying Americans affordable health care.

So after the movie, we'll ask presidential candidates to promise not to
take campaign money from any of the industry's PACs, lobbyists, or
executives. And to turn up the heat, we'll pass out fliers to movie-goers
encouraging them to call up their favorite candidate.

Not one more person should suffer or die because our leaders won't stand
up to the companies at the root of our health care problems.

Please pledge to see Sicko this weekend--a fun way to fight for affordable
health care for everyone. The theater and showtimes are below. Just click
here:

http://pol.moveon.org/sickopledge/?id=10633-8044979-PB2iIE&t=3

This weekend, Sicko is playing near you at:

Cinemark Palace at the Plaza
500 Nichols Road Kansas City, MO
Phone: (816)756-5833

Friday: (12:45 PM), (2:15 PM), (3:45 PM), (5:10 PM), 6:45 PM, 8:00 PM, 9:45 PM

Saturday: (12:45 PM), (2:15 PM), (3:45 PM), (5:10 PM), 6:45 PM, 8:00 PM, 9:45 PM

Sunday: (12:45 PM), (2:15 PM), (3:45 PM), (5:10 PM), 6:45 PM, 8:00 PM, 9:45 PM

And if you can, pass out fliers after the movie to keep the health care
industry's money out of the next White House, so we can win affordable
health care for everyone. The fliers are co-sponsored by our friends at
the Campaign for America's Future and Public Campaign Action Fund.

Thank you for all you do.

P.S. Are you a nurse? Sicko's your movie. The California Nurses
Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee and 25 activist nurse
groups around the country are co-hosting premieres and events to help turn
movie-goers into health care activists. Click here to find out how you can
join the special "Scrubs for Sicko" opening night outreach:

P.P.S. In case you're wondering, we never sell our list, and we never take
money to promote a campaign. This movie seems really important because of
the opportunity to change the way the country thinks about health care.
But we're not getting a dime from the film company.

  Hi Nancy,

The only reason I purchased was because my insurance covered after my co-pay
was paid , which I was extremely surprised that they would. I get all my
ostomy supplies from Edgepark medical supply. They send supplies every three
months, so that is convenient as you don't have to remember to order. I get
all my chux at express medical as they seem to be a good price. Where does
everybody else get their supplies?
Where does everybody get their tubing? I used to extend my bedbag for my
night bag and day bag, for the ends of my pencils I use on my splints and to
connect long straws together to reach my mouth from my 2 gallon jug I use at
night and straws I use in my chair or to drink hot tea.

I was able to do a number of fun things this week, see Ben Folds and John
Mayer, who were great in an outdoor theater in Bonner Springs Kansas. I have
seen both before and John Mayer has added saxophone, trumpet and regular piano
rather than just the electric this time I went to the friend of the zoo picnic
that lasted until 8 p.m. last night. Our zoo in Kansas City is so spread out
it's hard to see a lot of the animals , but I saw more than I usually do.
Friday I'm seeing a play a Prairie home companion and Jim Brickman both in the
outdoor theater we have in KC, MO. on Friday and Saturday. That's what I like
about summer, there are so many events and is so much easier to go places, not
needing any outerwear.

  Thanks a lot.
  Dana

My problem with bleach was my aides would unfortunately bleached things I
didn't want bleached.
How do you use the Freebreeze, just on the outside? I guess when I have
insurance no longer when my stepmom retires, I will have to use bleach.

Hi Dana, save yourself some money. For the bedside bag, go to Dallor General
and get cheap bleach or plain old vinager and a plastic ketchup squeeze bottle.
You can clean both bags. I use New Image by Hollister for urostomy appliances
and there is very little urine smell, when there is Freebreeze works great.
  Good Luck,
  Nancy

Dear Dana,

We're making progress. Due to your phone calls and efforts on
the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) last week,
each Senator's office has received an average of over 600 calls
urging support of full funding for children's health!

There is more we can do to make sure Congress gives $50 billion
in new money for SCHIP! Right now, some legislators are
attempting to remove funds and make it more difficult for
eligible children to get the coverage they need to be healthy.

Contact your legislators NOW to encourage them to make the right
decision on SCHIP [http://ga3.org/ct/91Mai1d1ARJm/].

Click here [http://ga3.org/ct/91Mai1d1ARJm/] to send your
Senators and Representative an email urging action.

The Senate Finance Committee will meet in the coming days to
determine the fate of SCHIP. The resulting legislation from this
meeting will affect millions of children as Senators write and
revise critical aspects of the bill.

More than 9 million children in America are uninsured and can't
get access to the regular checkups and care every child needs.
The SCHIP bill before Congress can change that and make a world
of difference for millions of kids.

America's children and hard working families are counting on us.
Please act now to contact your Senators and Representative.

Thanks,

Maryellen Barreca
Children's Campaign Coordinator

P.S. If you'd prefer to call your Senators rather than send an
email, just pick up the phone! Dial 1-800-828-0498 and tell them
the importance of SCHIP for America's kids and the need to fully
fund it.

If you set fire to it you'll kill most of the germs, but someone usually gripes
about the smoke. Alcohol and ammonia will get it clean but most bags disolve
after a few cleanings. I just donate mine to a landfill and ruin new ones. I
got a case of them on ebay and I'd like to use them up before I die.

Dear Dana,

You may have noticed Medicare in the headlines again. In
particular, the Medicare Advantage program has been grabbing
attention. And it's for all the wrong reasons. Sadly, the heavy
financial and personal costs of this attempt to privatize
Medicare are becoming clear.

Whose Advantage?

Medicare Advantage (MA) plans are private plans that contract
with the government to provide beneficiaries with their Medicare
benefits. As a result of the 2003 Medicare Modernization Act,
private MA plans are paid an average of 12 percent more per
member compared to the cost to care for that person in
traditional Medicare. That adds up to $54 billion in taxpayer
subsidies over the next 5 years, according to the Congressional
Budget Office.

As the summer heats up, insurance companies will spend millions
to keep that money for their profits. We will need your help to
defeat them when the time comes.

Independent experts and health care advocates agree that
Congress should level payments between MA and traditional
Medicare (check out our letter
[http://ga3.org/ct/bdSxI371pXGZ/] to Members of Congress).

Beneficiaries are hurting too. Insurance commissioners in 39
states have received complaints about MA marketing practices,
like forging seniors' signatures, targeting people with limited
English capacity, or selling plans door-to-door. As a result,
vulnerable beneficiaries lose access to their doctors and get
stuck with large medical bills.

Click here [http://ga3.org/ct/gpSxI371pXGD/] to send this
email to your colleagues, friends, and family.

Minorities and Medicare Advantage

In an effort to protect the profits they receive from government
overpayments, the insurance industry claims that minorities and
low-income seniors are likely to be disproportionately affected
if Congress levels the playing field for private plans and
starts paying them at the same rate as traditional Medicare.

The truth is, minorities in Medicare are several times more
likely to receive coverage through traditional Medicare than
through private Medicare Advantage plans. And because there's no
government oversight for these private plans, there's no way to
know if seniors are actually benefiting.

Recently, the TriCaucus (Congressional Black Caucus,
Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Congressional Asian
Pacific American Caucus) held a briefing on MA to explore its
role in communities of color. Ron Pollack, Families USA
Executive Director, gave a presentation that demonstrates how
many seniors from racial and ethnic minority communities
actually rely on MA plans.

The presentation also shows how windfall payments to private
Medicare plans send billions of dollars to private insurers that
could otherwise be used to fund health care programs that
directly serve low-income and minority populations.

Click here [http://ga3.org/ct/b1SxI371pXGK/] to view the Power
Point presentation of Ron's briefing to the Congressional
TriCaucus.

Click here [http://ga3.org/ct/gpSxI371pXGD/] to send this
message to your colleagues, friends, and family so they can help
defeat the insurance lobby's effort to preserve profits at the
expense of ordinary Americans.

Thank you for everything you do.

Good morning,

Charlie and I would like to share an article with you that appeared in the
Daily Mail here in England, but first I have a few comments to make regarding
the article.

Since last year, Charlie and I have been having discharge meetings, but to
date I still have no definite date as to when I will be able to go home. A lot
of things have to be sorted out before I am able to leave the hospital, but
the good news is that at last we are starting to see the light at the end of
this long 4 year tunnel. You have my promise that we will let all of you know
the minute a definite date is scheduled.
Secondly, and very important, is the fact that the reporter forgot to
mention all the work that Peter Noone is doing on my behalf. The reason this
interview was granted was to bring awareness to all of the efforts being made
to
raise money to purchase a van for me. We gave the reporter full details and
the
address of Peter's website and told her repeatedly how grateful we are for
all his efforts and to be sure he got mentioned in the article. Sadly, my
request was not honored, so I would like to apologise to Peter and all the
fans
that are working so hard on my behalf.
Lots of love

DAILY MAIL ARTICLE, 5/18/07:
I'm feeling glad all over:
Dave Clark Five star is going home after four years in hospital

Homeward bound: Mike Smith with his wife Charlie

He used to travel the globe followed by hordes of screaming fans, but for
the last four years Mike Smith’s world has been his hospital room.

The former singer and keyboard player with the 1960s pop group the Dave
Clark Five was left paralysed in a freak accident when he fell while trying to
climb a gate at his Spanish villa.

Since then he has been treated at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in
Buckinghamshire learning how to cope with being paralysed from the neck down.

Now at last he has been told he can go home to live with his wife Charlie –
and the 63-year-old says he cannot wait to experience the simple pleasures
which most take for granted.

"It’s the little things I am looking forward to – having an ice-cream or a
picnic and drives through the countryside seeing grass, trees and cows," he
said.

"It is exciting but scary at the same time. There are some things that
terrify me, like being stuck in a crowd in my wheelchair.

"It is treading into the unknown. This hospital has been my home for the
past four years but it has been like a prison for me.

"Now I am going to be out there and have my freedom again."

The Dave Clark Five sold 100 million records around the world with hits such
as Bits And Pieces while their song Glad All Over knocked the Beatles’ I
Want To Hold Your Hand off the top spot.

But clashes within the group led to them splitting up in 1971. Smith went on
to sing with other bands and produce records for the likes of Dame Shirley
Bassey and Michael Ball.

Chart toppers: The Dave Clark Five with Smith on the left

He also married his long-lost sweetheart Charlie, 64, in October 2001, 35
years after they first dated. The pair had lost contact but the actress
tracked
him down in 1999.

Their happiness was cut short in September 2003 when Smith, who was trying
to climb a 7ft gate after locking himself out of their villa, fell heavily and
landed on his head.

He cracked his spine in three places and was left a tetraplegic.

Smith has regained enough use of his left arm to operate an electric
wheelchair but a tracheotomy he underwent means he can speak only through a
plastic
microphone and tube attached to his throat.

As well as having to relearn simple tasks, he is also facing a legal battle
against a charity set up to raise cash for his treatment.

The Royal Theatrical Fund set up an appeal to help pay for equipment for him
– but Smith and his wife claim they have received only a pair of glasses and
a television, while £11,000 remains unaccounted for.

The fund has denied the allegations, saying it has paid out £20,000 to the
couple.

completely disrupt the system. However, it sure beats the heck out of having
nothing at all. 16 and half years ago I had nothing at all, except for my
Macintosh (a 128 which we had upgraded to a 526) but luckily it had assisted
devices built in. It allowed me to use a mouth stick and I was able to

was no Internet then. Sure did open the world when the Internet became
available to all of us.

May 4, 2007Dear CAMR Member,   CAMR has been working closely with House leadership since the passage of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act (S. 5) in the Senate on April 11, 2007.  As you know, S.5 is slightly different than the bill passed by the House in January (H.R. 3) and requires approval by the House before it can be sent to the President.   We have learned that the House intends to bring up S. 5 for a vote following the Memorial Day Recess, possibly on June 6th or 7th. We need your help to ensure that this bill passes the House by a strong majority. Here is how you can help:   Call your Representative’s district office and ask if the Representative will be in the district during the Memorial Day Recess (May 26 – June 3).  Ask for a meeting or make plans to attend an event also attended by your Representative to request a yes vote on S.5.  This is a great time of year for parades or county fairs; look for opportunities to see your Representative in a public forum where you can discuss the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act.   The telephone number for your Representative’s district office is:Representative at Now is also the time to encourage at least 10 of your family and friends to visit our website to sign up as members so that we can build an even stronger voice across the nation. Urge your contacts to visit the Advocacy section and fill out the My Profile section to become members at www.camradvocacy.org.   Thank you for everything you do.  We will provide more information about the House vote as things evolve.   Sincerely,   Sean Tipton, President www.camradvocacy.orgClick here to unsubscribe.

We are happy to inform you that we have recently created a new
Faith-Based Resource Center [http://ga3.org/ct/BpSxI371BzT4/]
on our Web site. This new resource center is intended to empower
those in the faith community who wish to advocate for
high-quality, affordable health care for all and, at the same
time, to help advocates seeking to reach out to communities of
faith.

The tools and resources on the site outline specific strategies
for the faith community to use in achieving health care equity.
In the days to come, we hope to add additional resources to this
list. Some of the resources currently on the Web site include:

--Case studies on how specific faith communities have gotten
involved in health care advocacy;

--Sample bulletins on different health care issues that can be
distributed within the faith community;

--An activity to develop strategies for addressing health policy
issues on the local, state, and national level;

--A tip sheet on how advocates can effectively engage the faith
community on health care issues.

[QUAD-L] Re: 99 Arrested as ADAPT Demands U.S. House Hearings on Community Choice Act

99 Arrested as ADAPT Demands U.S. House Hearings on Community Choice Act

Washington, D.C.--- 99 arrests occurred when ADAPT invaded the
Rayburn House Office Building to push for hearings on the Community Choice
Act (CCA, S 799 and H.R. 1621) by the House Energy and Commerce Committee
Subcommittee on Health. ADAPT took over the hearing room along with the
office of Rep. John Dingell (D-MI), and Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX), and filled
the horseshoe drive outside the Rayburn front door.

"We've been waiting for ten years for this legislation to pass,
and all the while Congress has refused to act on this national scandal of
America forcing people into nursing homes against their will," said Dawn
Russell, currently with ADAPT in Colorado. "I had to leave my home state
of Tennessee in order to get the assistance that would keep me out of a
nursing home. I want so much to be able to go home to Tennessee to be with
my family, but I can't because then I'd be forced into a nursing home just
because I need personal assistance to get through my day, and Tennessee
refuses to provide that assistance to people in their own homes. I won't
give up my freedom, my privacy, my dignity and the control over my life,
so I have to stay in exile in Colorado."

The CCA was introduced in March 2007, and is the newest version of
legislation that would remove the institutional bias in the nation's
outdated Medicaid program by allowing Medicaid to pay for the services and
supports people need to remain in their own homes. Currently under
Medicaid, states are federally mandated to provide only nursing home
services, and are not equally mandated to provide similar services in a
person's own home, thus diverting the person from being forced into a
nursing home or other institution. In order for the CCA to move through
Congress, the next step is to hold hearings. ADAPT met with the Democratic
National Committee (DNC) last week, and is meeting with the Republican
National Committee (RNC) this week to garner their support for hearings,
and to gain additional co-sponsors.

"It's easy for Congress to ignore us," said Guadalupe Vasquez of
Texas ADAPT. "After all, they all make a very good living and have great
benefits, and so they will never have to face the prospect of forced
institutionalization and loss of their freedom. On the other hand, many of
us live on $600/month, so we are the people who Congress, by its inaction,
is guaranteeing will lose our freedom. We'll lose our freedom, and we'll
be relegated to back wards where we will lie in our own waste until
someone eventually takes the time to change us, and where we acquire
deadly pressure sores because no one takes the time to reposition us. It's
way past time for Congress to correct this travesty."

The ability to stay in one's own home with needed services is even
more critical now that the baby boom generation has entered its
"disability years," the time of life when they are most likely to acquire
disabilities that will cause them to leave the workforce and apply for
disability benefits. Some members of ADAPT have been part of the
organization since its inception nearly 25 years ago, going from being
younger people with disabilities forced into nursing homes to elders of
retirement age, again being threatened with forced institutionalization.

Observed Barbara Toomer of Utah ADAPT, "More and more of us have
come to see the need for home and community-based services from two
perspectives- disability and aging. The perspectives may differ a bit, but
the desire to remain in our own homes with the services and supports we
need is exactly the same. We must assure passage of the Community Choice
Act now."

On Tuesday, May 1, ADAPT will host HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson
for a meeting at their hotel in the morning, and then will meet with Mike
Hudson, Chair of the Republican National Committee in the afternoon.

[QUAD-L] Re: Fwd: CMA Conference Develops Medicare Beneficiary Complaint Process

2007-04-26 Thread DAANOO

--- Begin Message ---
CENTER FOR MEDICARE ADVOCACY CONFERENCE DEVELOPS MEDICARE BENEFICIARY COMPLAINT
PROCESS

The Center for Medicare Advocacy, Inc., (the Center), convened a working
conference in January 2007 that designed a model for resolving Medicare
beneficiaries' complaints about quality of care. Sponsored by the Commonwealth
Fund, with assistance from AARP, the conference provided a forum for key
stakeholders to discuss concerns and develop a blueprint for change.

Medicare beneficiaries and their advocates are concerned that this current
process for resolving beneficiary complaints about quality of care has not been
effective in providing fair and timely resolution of complaints. Concerns about
the process include an inadequate resolution of beneficiary complaints about
poor quality, a lack of information about proper care protocols, and the
failure to provide expedited review of denials of care.

Conference Overview

The Center's conference was triggered in part by the national Institute of
Medicine's (IoM) comprehensive study in 2006 of Medicare's current beneficiary
quality of care complaint process. The IoM and others had on many occasions
called for a beneficiary-focused complaint review process. The current process,
operated under a contract with Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs) has
been found to be primarily provider-focused, assisting providers in quality
improvement activities, rather than beneficiary-focused. The IoM, as a result
of its cumulative findings, recommended removing the function of performing
quality of care investigations from the QIOs and allowing other entities to
perform this work while QIOs continue to focus more specifically on assisting
health care providers in quality improvement.

Prior to the conference, the Center commissioned three background papers to
provide a framework for discussing these topics and others related to quality
review. Forty-two experts in fields ranging from direct patient care to
Congressional staff reviewed these pieces and participated in the day-long
conference to produce a model complaint process.

The Model Complaint Process

An overview of the quality complaint model designed by the conference and a
short description of its elements are provided below:

1. Filing Complaints

Definition of "Complaint" Should be Construed Broadly
Participants agreed that the definition of "complaint" should be construed
broadly. An ideal system would be able to accept and document the broad array
of potential complaints. It would also be flexible enough to allow for an
appropriate method of resolving the complaint, based on its severity and other
factors.

Anyone Can File a Complaint
Participants agreed that anyone should be able to file a complaint. There was
consensus that an ideal system would receive and follow through on complaints
from beneficiaries, family members, advocates, health care workers, and anyone
else with important information. The system would need the means to protect the
anonymity of staff and comply with HIPAA.

Neither Language nor Technology Should Discourage Complaints
The ability to file a complaint should not be constrained by language,
literacy, or technological barriers. The complaint process should utilize
materials that are age-appropriate and should recognize that primarily
Internet-based systems are not effective with the current Medicare beneficiary
population.

2. Goals of the Complaint Process

The Primary Goal is Addressing Beneficiary Concerns
Participants agreed that the primary goal of the complaint process system
should be to address and resolve beneficiary concerns.

A Secondary Goal is Identifying Provider Opportunities for Quality Improvement
In addition to focusing on the beneficiary, it was agreed that the complaint
system is an overarching part of a system's quality control key to the proper
function of any system that delivers a service. Participants agreed that a
well-publicized complaint system that keeps detailed records can identify
problems with specific providers and identify areas where a specific provider
or all providers can improve their quality.

3. There Should be a Single Point-of-Entry for Beneficiaries

There should be a single point-of-entry for beneficiaries and anyone else who
wishes to file a complaint-one number to call regardless of where they live.

The Patient Advocate Link (PAL)
Conferees developed the notion of a PA to help beneficiaries access and work
through the complaint process. The PAL would be an outlet for the beneficiary
for purposes of advice about options or assistance in making preliminary
inquiries about quality of care concerns and to facilitate provider feedback.

Regulatory Capacity of a "PAL" Single Point-of-Entry Entity
The PAL would not investigate and would not make decisions of right and wrong
but would make referrals, lis

CENTER FOR MEDICARE ADVOCACY AND NATIONAL SENIOR CITIZENS LAW CENTER ANNOUNCE
NEW "JUSTICE PARTNERSHIP" AFFILIATION AND UPCOMING CONFERENCE

The Center for Medicare Advocacy and the National Senior Citizens Law Center
announce a new affiliation called the "Justice Partnership". The groups are
planning a major conference in Washington, DC to focus advocates and
policymakers on the challenges facing lower income older people and people with
disabilities. The conference will take place this October.

For two decades the Center for Medicare Advocacy and the National Senior
Citizens Law Center (NSCLC) have worked together. The two organizations have
shared histories, interrelated missions, and have successfully collaborated in
significant litigation, projects, and grants to advance the rights of older
people and people with disabilities.

The Justice Partnership grows out of a mutual concern that the safety net for
older Americans, created over the last several decades, is unraveling. By
collaborating more closely, both organizations will strengthen their ability to
advance the legal rights of lower-income older people and people with
disabilities and to ensure fair access to quality health care. The partnership
comes as Michael Kelly takes the helm as NSCLC's new executive director.

Kelly says he is excited about this new affiliation, "Together we will be able
to tackle important work for our clients that neither organization could take
on alone." Judith Stein, executive director of the Center for Medicare Advocacy
agrees. "The Justice Partnership will expand our geographic horizons, our
expertise, and our ability to solve the real problems of real people," says Ms.
Stein.

In celebration of the National Senior Citizens Law Center's 35th anniversary
and the Center for Medicare Advocacy's 21st anniversary, the first major
venture of the Justice Partnership will be a national conference about
challenges facing lower-income older people. The conference will be held at
the Kaiser Family Foundation in Washington, DC on October 19th. It will
assemble advocates, policy-makers, and academicians to examine creative
solutions to meet the needs of an aging society.

The Center for Medicare Advocacy ( and
): The Center for Medicare Advocacy works to
advance fair access to Medicare and health care. The Center is a leading
national voice for the long-term viability of traditional Medicare, based on
the real life experiences of the thousands of individuals who contact the
organization for help The Center responds to over 6,000 calls and emails each
year, produces educational and self-help materials, pursues Medicare coverage
for thousands of individual beneficiaries, provides administrative and
legislative advocacy, litigates on behalf of individuals and classes, and
provides legal support and training for Connecticut's State Health Insurance
and Assistance program.

The National Senior Citizens Law Center (): NSCLC
advocates nationwide for the independence and well-being of low-income elderly
people and others eligible for Medicaid, Medicare and SSI. NSCLC litigates
class-action cases to keep open access to health care and income benefits;
represents the interest of low-income people before Congress and administrative
agencies; publishes consumer guides on long-term care issues and trains,
informs and assists other advocates so that low-income elderly and disabled
people have the best possible representation for the broadest possible range of
cases.

Dear MoveOn member,

Last year, a handful of Vermont students started to dream: What if a bunch
of people around the country asked Congress all at once to confront the
defining issue of our time, global climate destabilization? On Saturday,
those students made history, when close to 1,400 communities from coast to
coast participated in the largest day of action ever in the U.S. on
climate change.

Their timing is perfect. The new Democratic House has vowed to pass a
climate change bill by this summer. But for the bill to have real teeth
and withstand the pressure of the Big Oil lobby, all of us must weigh in
now with a clear call for bold, long-term solutions.

Science shows that a commitment now to major cuts in our emissions is the
only way to get ahead of the climate crisis. It is time to think big and
long-term. So send a message to your representatives today: Congress' new
bill on global warming must reduce greenhouse gases by 80% by 2050.
Clicking here will add your name to the petition:

http://pol.moveon.org/stepuponclimatechange/o.pl?id=10212-8044979-hVAhXL&t=4

The best part is that the petition signatures will be hand-delivered to
our representatives' local offices by Step It Up 2007, the folks who
brought you the rallies last Saturday. By gathering lots of signatures, we
can help show that voters want action now on this issue.

The verdict is in--global warming is real and already affecting lives of
people around the world. This spring, communities close to the North Pole
saw something they haven't seen in 5,000 years of unchanged culture--polar
bears and walrus pups drowning in the Arctic sea. With the ice melting,
they can't fish anymore and don't even recognize their homeland.1

These communities are the canaries in the coal mine; it won't be long
until those effects are felt across our nation, threatening coastal cities
and agricultural production. And just yesterday, top retired military
officers called for quick action, highlighting the security threat
represented by global warming.2

But when people are willing to dream, leaders will follow. After decades
of ignoring mounting evidence of our climate crisis, the new Democratic
House will have a climate change bill this year--the only question is,
will it contain bold solutions or a band-aids? Saturday proved we have the
momentum for real change. Now, we just need the political will to go the
distance. People from all walks of life took a simple message to their
communities: the future for our grandchildren in squarely in their hands.
The time is now for our leaders to step up.

Twelve-year old Tiffany Cordero said it best Saturday at a rally in New
York City's Battery Park:

When it comes to global warming, I don't exactly think President Bush is
doing such a hot job. A lot of people are thinking just of now. But we
won't have a 'now' if we don't focus on the future.3

Congress can secure the future now, by making sure any legislation passed
commits to the scientifically proven goals that will turn the tide on
climate change. Congress' new bill on global warming must include a
long-term and bold commitment: Reduce greenhouse gases by 80% by 2050.

Click here to add your name to the call.

http://pol.moveon.org/stepuponclimatechange/o.pl?id=10212-8044979-hVAhXL&t=5

Thanks for all you do.

--Ilyse, Wes, Carrie, Nita and the MoveOn.org Political Action Team
  Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

P.S. Along with serious reductions in greenhouse gases, we've also got to
make sure the biggest polluters don't get a free ride under new
legislation. Big business has made sure that most proposals on the table
include "grandfathered" pollution permits--which means if you're already
polluting, you get to just keep on doing it. It's only fair that every
polluter should pay us, the taxpayers, since the air and atmosphere is a
common resource that belongs to everyone. Grandfathered permits are
basically a multi-billion dollar giveaway to the largest polluters.

Instead of letting these companies get richer by continuing to pollute or
by selling their pollution "rights" to another company, our friends at

it. Click here to learn more and support their work:

Dear Dana.

America's seniors and taxpayers lost out today when a minority
of Senators used a procedural motion to block a bill to give
Medicare the power to negotiate with powerful drug companies and
get lower prices for seniors.

When the vote was completed, 55 Senators had voted to allow
Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices and 42 had voted to
preserve the considerable profits of drug companies rather than
relieve a burden from the shoulders of millions of older
Americans. Alas, 60 votes were needed to allow floor action.

The good news is that, thanks to the outpouring from millions of
Americans around the country, a MAJORITY of Senators now support
Medicare negotiation. THANK YOU for your phone calls to the
Senators! Unfortunately, on this day, the big drug companies'
lobbying prevailed.

Click here [http://ga3.org/ct/M1SxI3711XTp/] to see how your
Senator voted. (Please note that, after it was clear the measure
would fail, Majority Leader Harry Reid switched his vote to Nay
to preserve his option, under arcane Senate rules, to bring the
bill back to the Floor to reconsider at a later time.)

This issue is far from dead. Not by a long shot.

WHAT YOU CAN DO: If either or both of your Senators voted Nay,
call their offices at 1-800-828-0498 to tell them how
disappointed you are.

Background

Currently, the government is prohibited from using the
bargaining power of 43 million Americans in Medicare to
negotiate with pharmaceutical companies for lower drug prices.
Earlier this year, the House of Representatives passed a bill to
give the government the option to do just that. This was the
Senate's turn to "just say no" to the drug companies but a
minority of Senators was able to block the bill.

Just curious Linda, how do you manage your urine output? I wear a 4000 CC
bad bag and often drink about one leader just prior to going to sleep. In
the morning my urine output is usually around 3750 cc. It seems that I put
out a considerable amount of urine once I am in a recombinant position.
Thanks,

I have always wondered the same thing. My mom tries to clean them with pipe

drink diet caffeine free pop and decaf tea and water.
It is so gross and sometimes it gives you a big piece of black gob in your

I thought maybe it was caused from sugar substitute.

I try to drink regular water the majority of the time, but I do drink
carbonated water. I really do not think it depletes the calcium from my
body, considering my bone density test showed that I have more density now
than I did five years ago, but I do take calcium as a daily supplement.
Additionally, I have had a problem with a bladder stones and it could have

[QUAD-L] Re: The real truth about Walter Reed AMC

2007-03-26 Thread Billy Kimberlin

As far as medical care goes I don't recall hearing any
complaints about the actual inpatient care at Walter Reed
Hospital. The majority of the problems mentioned in the
initial report were about building 18, but I do believe (since I
haven't read it in quite some time) that there was also
serious complaints by soldiers and veterans about the mountain
of bureaucracy they face once they are on outpatient care.
I additionally believe that they later started to cover how
they are concerned about the precarious state in which the
VA could find itself if additional funding is provided.
One caveat: don't attack me because I am only going by
what I heard in a barrage of media coverage. I didn't have an
opportunity to read much over the last six weeks as I have
been ill.
 Just my two cents

I tried accupuncture about 19 years ago. I didn't expect any improvement in my
paralasys and the doctor assured me he had no miracle treatment for a damaged
spinal cord. He did try treating my pain. It had no effect at all. It didn't
hurt anything, but it didn't help anything. It did cost me $45 and I did have
some high hopes. He even did a treatment to help my bowels move better. Nada,
zip, zilch, nothing. I'm sure it works wonders for folks with too much money in
their wallet.

[QUAD-L] re: H/C PARKING

2007-03-21 Thread WyldKat01
I would not wait til the last minute to seek help. Can you go to the zoning
commission and see if they will help. Get your facts together in advance,
maybe ask for a continuance of the case.

In my son's case we never use the H/C spaces unless there are several vacant
because of the lift..it lets down and spots are never large enough to allow
for room to get him off the lift. Then when you return someone has usually
parked beside you and you are stuck.

What we usually do is drive along side where he needs to get out and then
unload him and the other person goes and parks the van. Works fine for us.

Chalk another one up to the trampoline - cheerleader tramp, front summie,
landed on my feet, whiplashed my neck between c3 and c4, may of '67. now i
see
the trampolines coming back to the olympics - too bad we just can't learn
from history.

I would just like to know what caused members of this message board to
become quadriplegics or paraplegics?

I became a quadriplegic due to an illness that affects the spinal cord
(Transverse Myelitis), July 2, 2005
