Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 7.6.1 r9482 has messed up my SB Radio
Just a quick further update... Last night I disabled the wireless on the Radio and plugged it via ethernet into a wireless bridge, the idea being to eliminate the Radio's internal wireless as a source of problems. This morning I streamed an internet radio station for over an hour, sync'd with 2 other players, with no issues whatsoever. Clearly it's early days, but this certainly hints that the Radio's own wireless is a problem. Of course doing this rather defeats the purpose of the Radio as it now can't be moved due to the ethernet link. If, however, this remains stable, it would be nice to hear from the Logitech guys as to what can be done to the wireless (firmware?) on the Radio to sort it out. If the answer is 'nothing', then at least I know I need to start looking for another solution such as Airplay speakers. -- twynne 1 SB Touch, 2 x Booms, 1 x SB3, 1 x SB Radio twynne's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1326 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89900 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Keep in mind that the wifi antenna of the radio is not nearly as good as the wifi antenna of the bridge you've attached to (or a laptop, etc.). The other issue is not wifi strength but wifi interference from other networks. Use netstumbler or vistumber (google for programs) to find nearby networks. Make sure you use a different channel than the close networks. And even moving the radio a few inches can make a big difference. This said, I have two RADIOS that are WIFI/battery and I use them all over my house and deck with no dropouts, even with FLAC files. My WIFI strength is typically between 60% and 95%, and I'm on very different WIFI channels than my neighbors. So your SPECIFIC radio may have a wifi problem or simiply have a weak signal/interference, however there does not seem to be any general firmware failure of the radio with regard to wifi use. p.s. this is a user-to-user forum. logitech doesn't really read these. But there are official logitech support forums for both the server and the SB hardware players where they do read and answer. So if you want info from logitech, I'd suggest posting over there. As mentioned above, signal reports 93% (average) on the Radio, so I doubt that's the problem. As for interference, I live in a large block of flats and I know there to be TONS of wireless networks and devices here without even scanning. That said, the wireless bridge I'm testing with is also a 2.4ghz device and it has no such problems connecting to my router and maintaining a solid signal (from the same position as the Radio). I've already tried the route of testing various wireless channels and this is essentially hopeless. Even if I find one that will work better, it won't work for long. In truth I seriously doubt Logitech is going to do anything at all to the Radio firmware as far as wireless goes, and unless some brilliant solution (involving changes to settings, different firmware version, or router compatibility issues) comes from the community I'm likely to be looking for another (product) solution. I've tried Logitech's support mechanisms before (email and phone) and it's not an experience I care to repeat. -- twynne 1 SB Touch, 2 x Booms, 1 x SB3, 1 x SB Radio twynne's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1326 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89900 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Radio works fine hard-wired on ethernet cable, but since I have the battery pack it defeats the point of buying it! JB Still having problems I'm afraid. I had some initial success by adding a 2nd router (Apple Time Capsule that I had abandoned over a year ago) and connnecting the Radio to that (wireless). Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 7.6.1 r9482 has messed up my SB Radio
I too am having nothing but trouble with the Radio with recent firmware releases (whilst 2 Booms and an SB3 on my network work perfectly). It's hard to say when the trouble started, but it was certainly within the last several weeks and I'm guessing since the 7.6.1 update. In my case the radio will play for a short while - anywhere from a few minutes to about half an hour, after which it stops and shows no network connectivity. I've tried different positions, different rooms, powered vs. battery, etc to no avail (incidentally it reports 93% signal strength in it's 'usual' position when connected). When this happens all controls on the player also become unresponsive, so I strongly suspect the firmware. Hard power off will resolve it briefly, but it just happens again within 30 minutes. I have not changed the position of the radio in over 18 months when I last moved home. The router is the same, router firmware is the same, router position is the same, server is the same. All that has changed is the SB server version and linked player firmware. I've also tried the latest - 7.6.2 r9545 - and the same occurs. Any thoughts anyone? Can I provide any logging that might help? Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio - Full Power down when on battery?
Thanks for the replies everyone. A couple of points: 1. I don't see why it can't just power down everything *but* the wireless and still last for several days on battery. I've got other wireless devices (with much smaller batteries) that in some cases last for weeks in this state. Fair enough, they may not be 'constantly' connected, but I'm not sure the Radio needs to be either. 2. Agree with jdoering that it's easy to interpret this as a bug as it's exhibiting behaviour it never has before, and there appear to be no related settings on the player or SBS. Having it power down fully does present a problem in other ways. For example, I most often control my various players using Applescript, which I use to power on the ones I want, set volume, play favourites, etc. This clearly won't work with the player powered down, and I'm not yet sure if it's going to cause the script to error as well. I can live with it disconnecting itself from the wireless (even at the expense of the scripting) to save on battery, but I'd rather it went into some sort of sleep with screen, sound, wireless, etc. off but able to wake instantly. The startup sequence takes long enough as to be annoying in the morning when I go to use it. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio - Full Power down when on battery?
As for the first point, I understand the reasoning - just wish there were a bit solution to a full shutdown. My iPod Touch is similar (with a MUCH smaller battery and a much larger screen) but only appears to connect to the network when the screen is activated. The battery lasts for weeks! As for the outlets, some UK bathrooms have a special outlet for shavers but these are very limited in the types of device you can plug in - for one by the type of plug and secondly by the max power drawn. If you plugged in a Radio I suspect you'd blow the plug. In my case, this plug is inside a cabinet so it wouldn't be practical anyway. Not sure the history, but they're very careful about power in bathrooms here! I'm sure it's a building reg that an outlet can't be within x of a water source or similar. -- twynne 2 x Booms, 2 x SB3, 1 x Duet, 1 x SB Radio twynne's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1326 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76177 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I've recently installed the battery in my Radio, and unplugged it from power for the first time this morning. Since then I've noticed after a period of inactivity (not sure how long just yet) it is completely powered off rather than 'sleeping'. In other words, it goes through the full power-up sequence each time I switch it on rather than immediately being ready to play. Is this a feature of the unit with battery installed, a software/firmware bug, or is there a setting somewhere to control this behaviour? Also I suspect the aftermarket value of either item on eBay is going to be next to nothing. -- twynne 2 x Booms, 2 x SB3, 1 x Duet, 1 x SB Radio twynne's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1326 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70002 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

To be clear, this has nothing to do with the Squeezebox guys, but as (presumably) employees of Logitech they're in a better position to sort it out than us as customers. -- twynne 2 x Booms, 2 x SB3, 1 x Duet, 1 x SB Radio twynne's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1326 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70002 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio battery on Logitech UK... kinda
I've just spent the most irritating 15 minutes on the phone with someone in Logitech's ecommerce team regarding the issues attempting to pre-order via the website. For some reason the first half of the call was spent convincing him that the Squeezebox radio actually accepts a battery. He then asked me if my existing battery was faulty! Er, no, it doesn't come with one. Idiot. In the end I had to walk HIM through the website as he couldn't grasp the fact that I was trying to order and it was generating an error. After all of that, he confirms that there are issues with the website and promises updates via email. Yeah, I'll hold my breath for that. On the assumption that Logitech has outsourced their ecommerce site, they seriously need to slap around the idiots that are running it. -- twynne 2 x Booms, 2 x SB3, 1 x Duet, 1 x SB Radio twynne's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1326 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70002 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

[SlimDevices: Radio] No audio on Radio playback
Can anyone think of a reason why there would be no audio on one of my Radios? It's connected to the server, and sound effects are heard when navigating menus (so it's not the speakers). There's also a Boom connected to the same server and playback on that is fine. Any thoughts? I'd have to agree on this (as I've said before), I really don't need another remote. Also anything which brings down the cost of the (already pricy) battery is welcome. It's ridiculous to end up with another remote every time you purchase a battery. Imagine Nokia selling you another charger every time you buy a battery.
