Re: RE SD Shelby valve cover gasket question

2007-09-01 Thread amoparx
Yeah, It can be a bummer when the gasket slips out. I had a 2 inch chunk get
crimped off ob the back side of my GTC when I put the head on last fall. I had
a heck of a time finding the leak because the oil was everywhere. I even
changed seals on the passenger side of the engine because the thing was so
saturated. It only took a split second to see why the thing was leaking when I
popped the cover off. My gasket was blue. I'm so careful with stuff like
that I can't believe it slipped on my when I installed it. It was so nice to
clean the driveway and have it stay clean after that.

I like the black rubber one much better than the blue one. The blue one
never fits quite right and falls out while you are installing it. The
black rubber ones just work better for me.

Hi,
Just get a gasket for an 89 turbo cover. I'm guessing all the covers from 89
and up are the same. You evidently got a valve cover from an 89 CSX. All
other Shelby covers would have the other style gaskets. (like the one you
removed) You got the one everyone wants.

I just bought this car.. The wife said that either it goes or she does..
It does need a bit of TLC.. There's some rust under the car, the
interior is pretty dirty, and the paint sucks..

It runs and pulls hard.. I saw 12lbs of boost and the tranny shifts
fine.. The linkage is a bit loose but not bad.

The only Shelby item missing are the two front struts (Koni)..
 Everything else is there.

 It's located in Rochester MN..

Re: SD One-Piece Valve Cover Gasket?

2007-05-13 Thread amoparx
You should be able to find that one piece gasket anywhere. As long as you say
89+ valve cover gasket, there aren't any other options. (At least with the
turbo covers) Now whether they're any good is another story. I've had OK luck
with any I've bought. They can be tricky keeping in place the first time you
use them, so make sure you can snap the thing in place without bumping anything
on the way down. Maybe a bit of RTV in advance would help. I'm usually in too
much of a hurry to do it that (right) way.

Larry,

This may sound weird, but my 90 Daytona use to kill after a left turn. This
was if I was driving it a bit fast around the corner. I never figured out
why but it was the HEP. I replaced that and the problem went away. It never
killed the car any other way than a hard left turn.

I have an 86' 2.2 turbo one (silver/black) that I am not sure what i want to
do with at this point. My options right now are: Fix the car to sell as a
running car, sell as is, part it out, or get the $200 my local junk yard is
 giving for cars right now.

This was my first car and I've had it since 96' so I hate to junk it. It has
been sitting for years and I just pulled it in my shop because I have to do
something with it or it is eventually just going to start rusting away.
The car is 90% rust free but needs new paint and some freshening up inside
and out. The car has 140-145 compression in all cylinders as of yesterday.
It needs a logic module to get it running. I had this car when I was 16 and
had the hands on skills but no knowledge as far as diagnostics goes so I
gave up on it. I think all that was wrong was a vac. leak and something in
 the logic module... Idiot!!!
There are many new parts mileage wise...front CV shafts, Front pads/rotors,
Bosch alt., some bigger radiator from another dodge (it was so long ago I
forget), used replacement tranny, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter,
fuel filter, fuel pump, t-belt, motor mounts.

So if anyone wants to buy the whole car, sell me a logic module real cheep,
or buy the motor, trans, ect. let me know.

 Thanks-

Re: SD Value of Shelby Vehicles

2007-04-25 Thread amoparx
Well said,

I'm just thankful the prices are low. I love the cars and more than likely
will NEVER be able to buy another Challenger R/T. It was easy when I graduated
in 1974.
I got my 87 GLHS for $1,500 a year ago. This was after a guy I know bought it
off ebay and made at least $400 profit. I was happy to pay that. This car
had 50,894 actual miles at that time. It needs paint and a bit of work, but
it's pretty solid.
I do have my 1968 AMX. That's my REAL muscle car. I got that 22 years ago for
$425.00. The time to buy those really rare cars for a cheap price was just a
few years after they were made. I looked at a HEMI Challenger R/T back in 1974
or 75 that had 25,000 miles on it. I sure wish I had the $1,500.00 at that
time. LOL, If I only knew then what I know now.

A, the old why don't people value Shelby Dodges conversation. How many
times this has popped up over the years on SDML I have no idea, but does the
phrase starting with if I had a nickle mean anything. Sorry, but I gave
up on the value and now hold onto Shelby Lancer 249 (just turned 54,000
miles and I'm the original owner) and the 85 GLH Turbo (53,000 original
miles) because I like them, not because they will ever make me rich enough
to retire to the French Riviera or even because they really are the original
 tuner car.

And no Mike, it really has nothing to do with age. Do a little historical
analysis and look at what the value of a 1965 GT 350 Shelby Mustang or a 67
GT 500 KR was during the mid 80s when they were only 20 years old. Sure,
they were not at the ungodly prices they bring now, but they were already 3,
4 or 5 times their original sticker prices depending on condition. A car
that was $5,500 new was going for well over $20,000 and even a beater 65 GT
350 H (the least desirable at the time) rusted all to hell with a
replacement drivetrain was worth $10,000. I know, because I tried to buy one
for $8,000 in 1985 and got turned down. Our cars? Sorry, I have never seen
one exceed the sticker price (even new, they didn't sell at sticker unless
 it was the 1986 GLHS)

It is all about the supply and demand. Why pay $600,000 for a 71 purple Hemi
Cuda with no options and dog dish hub caps? Because they only built 15 total
that year and only 4 are left and there are at least 10,000 people that want
to buy one and 100 of those guys have real cash with lots of commas. Maybe,
just maybe, when only 4 Lancers or 4 GLHS Chargers are left, they may be
worth a little more, but I have no idea how we are going to create a demand
even as the supply shrinks. It probably won't be because of a Movie. I don't
think Back to the Future increased the demand for Deloreans. And Christine
didn't make late 50s Mopars more popular. But Bullet did a lot for the 67
Mustang. Why? People love MUSTANGS. People have no love for our Mopars. Not
even the MOPAR people have any love for our Mopars, and that is the worst
shame of all. We are shunned by the Shelby Lovers and shunned by the Mopar
lovers, so here we sit with our Shelby Mopars wondering where the love is.
Maybe if we marketed them as the original Tuner.na. Won't work. The
Tuner crowd already hates us too. They know what our tail lights look like
 :-)

Re: SD raditor???? HELP

2007-03-21 Thread amoparx
Hi,
You may have to get that one re-cored. I know with the TII Shelby Daytonas and
Lebaron's they haven't been around for years. I'm pretty sure the radiator is
the same or very simalar.
The same thing use to happen when I'd go looking for a radiator. They said it
was the same as the 2.5.
Keep you eyes open for a used one in good shape. I know that's easier said
than done, but without spending around $300 for a re-cored one, that may be
your only option.
Good luck

Re: SD SL died!!!!

2007-03-09 Thread amoparx
I've had 2 belts jump that didn't look bad. One was from my own stupidity.
This was a carburated 2.2 with an air pump. I noticed the air pump wasn't
turning so while the car was running, I pushed something against the belt so as
to add a bit of tension and break the pump free. Instantly, the car killed.
Never started again after that. I checked the timing belt and sure enough, it
had jumped. What happened was the crank was trying to turn the belt and by
touching the belt on the other end of the head, I bound the smooth operation
for a split second. Just enough to jump the belt. It wasn't much either.
The secound one is the 2.5 EFI Sundance I'm driving right now. I bought it as
a non running car. The day afer I bought it, I started looking at what could
be wrong with it. I checked the belt and it was off one cog. I changed that
and still wouldn't start. After a while of not being able to find the problem,
I pulled the valve cover off and found 2 followers (rockers) off the cam. They
were laying there. The car had a bad tranny also. What I guessed happened,
is the tranny was slipping, the previous owner got frustrated trying to get it
to go and overrevved it. This caused the followers to jump off the cam. I'm
guessing that when the followers jumped, they bound (jammed) something for
that split second and the belt jumped. Now I can't say why the followers
jumped for sure, whether it was the tranny or what, but Im sure about why the
belt jumped. It wouldn't take much of a bind to slip the belt. I leaned that
18 years ago on the 83 2.2.
In both cases, The belt may have been a bit loose. I don't remember. I also
bought my first GLHS with a timing belt off one cog. That belt had all his
teeth. My family seems to like throwing followers off cams. My sister did it
twice with 2 different Horizons and my cousin did it to my Dad's 2.5 minivan.
In my sisters case the cam and followers were badly worn and she get's mad at
her cars and over revs them after they start. I'm not sure what my cousin did
to my Dad's van, but when Dad called to tell me they got the van running (after
a -28 day caused it to fail) he said it was running rough. Then he said my
cousin got it running. Then he said my cousin is a crazy kid. The first thing
I thought was crazy kid? he over revved it and threw a follower. I was
right. I pulled the cover off and there sat the follower. Taking a rest from
the rest of his coworkers. LOL

 Hi All
Well, that's what I get, I was talk'n up the Dodge long block that I got now

some teeth (it has a 3year 36000 mile warranty but I really don't like anyone
working on my cars but me). I was driving and it just stalled and never
started again. When I lined up the timing mark on the crank the cam was way
 off.
the belt looked good (no missing teeth) so I'm going to install a new belt
Saturday. This has never happen to me before where a belt just jumps teeth,
 all

searching Centurian wheels, which 16 items came up, and 9 in stores (25

wheel bearings or metal brake lines. The last time I clicked on an auction

got phished. My User ID was used to place an ad for a million dollar Hemi

me, the folks at Ebay caught it and stopped the auction, and suspended my

worse. I only had to jump through a few dozen hoops to prove who I was

i agree. tho the aftermarket stuff works good it doesnt even remotely fit the
look in the dash of a stock system and even gets more cheezy and chinzy with
age compared to the stock stereo unit. i have a vintage infinity ll cassette
deck with 5 band EQ, and surround sound joystick, along with the factory
 slaved
in single disc CD player that sits below it in the cup holder bin thingy in
 my 1988 daytona shelby z.

the stock dodge infinity speakers are 8ohms, and the 6 infinity reference
aftermarket speakers i have for it are only 4 ohms. the aftermarket speakers
being only 4 ohms impedance are so efficient they work fine on the internal
 amps
in the factory stereo. no need for the piggy backed amps anymore. i took the
stock infinity amplified speakers out cut the plugs off em for my new
 speakers
and tossed them in the trash can. half of them didnt work anymore anyway. the
new speakers even fit under the stock speaker grilles.

on my new mustang GT i ordered. the only achilles heal with the stock 4
speaker system is the speakers themselves. standard 5x7 6x8 just like the
 daytonas
rear quarter panel speakers, but in 4 places in the doors, and in the rear
deck. i think i will likely install infinity references in this car too. this
 car

Also, if your original radio has a cassette, (and most do) you can use a
cassette adapter and run your MP3 straight through. This has better sound than
the radio transmitters. At least I've been told that. Myself, for now I've
been using a transmitter, but only because the times I've used it, I was
driving the cars with the factory CD players. On my Shelby Charger, I use to
use a personal CD player that could play MP3's and velcroed it directly to the
hash. Then the transmitter just hung there. It sounds pretty good except for
the times you run in to an area where the transmitter clashes with another
radio station.

Well, that and the fact that now that really good FM transmitters like
the Monster Cables model and MP3 players have arrived, there is really
no reason to put in an aftermarket stereo if you want to keep the stock
 look on your car.

I put the old AM/FM stereo unit back in the CSX and have it running to
an amplifier for better sound. The AMP is hidden and you can't see the
 upgraded speakers.

Running from my 30 gig zune to the FM tuner sound more than acceptable.
Not super HI/FI, but pretty darn good.

Al, Is that a factory Radio? Does it have the tabs in the right place for
mounting or is it a newer style? How about the wires? Did you have to change
anything to plug it in?
The Chrysler CD player I use in my GLHS was bought at a garage sale for $10.00
That was one of my best finds last garage sale season! It's not original to
the car, but can be switched back in 5-10 minutes. I need to get new buttons
(switches) for the factory radio so I can get that back in the car. I love the
CD player, but the older factory ones don't like burned CD's too much.

SD Only 2 speakers? P-Body

2007-02-23 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

I just switched out a cheap aftermarket radio for a factory Infinity. The cheap
radio didn't have working rear speakers when I bought the car. I put in the
good radio and there's no rear sound. Did some of these cars actually come
without rear speakers? The wires were not butchered either. They had an
adaptor on the cheap radio. I thought maybe the Infinity had a malfunction (I
do have a bad Chrysler radio here somewhere) so I installed the plain Chrysler
AM/FM no tape stock radio that came with the car. No sound from the rear. In
fact, NO FADER CONTROL on the radio. This is a 1994 Shadow (Sundance actually)
From outward appearances, you'd think this car was fully equipped. Then you
get inside and see there's no rear defrost, no tach, no delayed wipers and now
NO rear speakers? Can this be?

SD Do I have Fog Light switch wires?

2007-02-23 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

I didn't have a rear defrost rear window when I bought a 94 Shadow. I didn't
know this. After switching the rear hatch because of rust I now have this.
Today I went to a salvage yard and got the switch and center dash panel that
accepts the switch. I found the tail of the harness that goes to this switch.
While at the yard I also bought the fog light setup since the switch also has
the one for the fog lights. I can't find the tail of the wire harness for
this. I guess maybe it doesn't have this but am hoping it does. The car is
very stripped on the inside. Any idea if there's a tail under the dash I can
plug the switch into?
Or, has anyone hooked up factory fog lights and wired it themselves? I know
it's not rocket science but am hoping there's an easy plug and play wire/tail I
can find at a salvage yard that'll hook up to my existing harness.
Thanks

Re: SD 89 Shelby CSX starting problems

2007-01-31 Thread amoparx
Hi,

Are you getting any trouble codes? By coil I assume you mean ignition coil.
Did you try the pick-up coil? (aka HEP) These can be kind of tempramental.
But you would get a trouble code when this is the problem. Otherwise, when it
does start, does it run good right away or does it run rough for a bit? The
only starting problems I ever had with a turbo Dodge were either HEP related or
head gasket. The gasket would cause the car to start hard right after you shut
it off though. Then run rough for a half minute or so. I don't know much at
all about the VNT motors. I owned a VNT Daytona a few years ago, but didn't
drive it more than about 300 total miles in a year and a half.
Good luck

the temperature drops below 50 degrees. The engine will turn over fine but
wont start or will start after several tries (recently, however, it wont
start). I've had the cap, rotor, wires, coil and auto shutdown relay
replaced as well as the fuel filter. I'm thinking it might be a grounding
issue but seeing as how this is my first car and am just starting to learn
more about it, I doubt my inference is correct. Anyways, the guys at

Re: SD GLHS bra?

2007-01-26 Thread amoparx
Hi Joe,

I don't know about the GLH, but I did get a new Shelby bra from the
dealership back when I first bought my Shelby Charger. Now this was back in
1988. I'm wondering if they had factory bra's for the Omni also. Mine fit
great. But, I only ran it on one road trip. The thing kind of stretched from
warm weather and high speed driving. It never looked quite the same after the
trip. Now that I think about it, it was only 1/4 of a road trip. During the
trip, we pulled it off before going to a dealership for a head gasket job
before our warrenty ran out. We were heading for Death Valley and knew the car
was running a bit warm for a while. (4 months) Our extended warranty ran out
500 miles later IN Death Valley. We didn't want them to void the warranty
thinking the reduced air flow from the bra caused the condition.
At laest I have a few pictures of the car with the bra.
Good luck finding one for your car.

Re: SD SC Rear Glass removal

2006-11-24 Thread amoparx
Hi Brian,
I pulled a rear window out of a Shelby Charger about 8 years ago by myself. If
I remember correctly, From the inside you peal back and try push the rubber
seal through the opening. The thing is, it trys to pop back. What I did was
used some kind of prying wedges on the outside to keep a constant pulling up
pressure on the rubber gasket. As I'd peel back a bit on the bottom side, I'd
keep adding or readjusting the wedges or blocks of wood on the other side. You
could use an extra hand to help push on the glass as you peel back the gasket,
but from experience, I've found if you don't want to break the glass, you do it
yourself. Other helpers try to help too much and push the glass too hard.
They aren't really to hard to pull out. It just takes a bit to get started and
then it goes pretty fast. Just work slow and don't force the glass. There's
not a lot of flex in a window.
The nice thing is if you do break it, you can still find a good one somewhere
without worrying about the Shelby sticker on the inside like on a Shelby
Charger. Also a good oppertunity to find a better piece if yours is imperfect.
You got me thinking now. My rear window on my GLHS has a few scratches in it.
I better keep my eyes open for a better piece.
  Good luck.

SD Bad Oil pump?

2006-10-27 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

Last night I was driving my GTC TII when I noticed the engine was making noise.
Slight clattering. Then I noticed the oil light was on and the guage was way
down. I couldn't believe I was that low on oil. It was down almost a quart.
After adding some, the car seemed normal. While driving to work this morning, I
saw the guage was down again and the engine was making noise again. You can
hear it when you let off the gas. I checked the oil and it was fine. Drove away
and had pressure again. A few minutes later, the guage was down again. If I
shut it off, let it sit for a minute and restart, the pressure comes back. But
only for a short time. It's not the guage because the car makes noise when the
guage drops. Is this what an oil pump does when it goes bad? I've never had a
bad one before.
Thanks

 doing

 after
the first one I did, I bought supplies in metric from there on out just to
 make
life easier on the service side of things.

I have some pictures of the 520/555 conversion brackets that I designed (as

I'm willing to bet the ballance shafts were removed. Dropping the pan would
tell, but they don't all have a rubber gasket on the common blocks. Mine
didn't on my 90 TI Daytona. My car also used about 2 extra quarts after I
removed the Shafts.
I have always heard you should get a common block EFI pan and pick-up tube for
the car after removing the shafts. But, unless you plan to autoX the car,
there's nothing wrong with some extra oil in the car. The engine will last
longer.

Re: SD 1987 Charger GLHS

2006-05-09 Thread amoparx
Hi Danny,

The prices can really vary. I've seen a few REALLY nice ones going for $4500
lately. There was a super nice original that went for $6,000 on eBay a couple
weeks ago. Right now there's one listed in the local paper for $4500. I saw
this car 2 weeks ago and it's not as nice as my $1500 GLHS. There's a new
paint job on that car, but the person has no clue as to what they're selling
and the paint job wasn't good enough. They also put molding down the side of
the car and they refer to the car as a Shelby Charger in their ad. No mention
of GLHS. The car is being sold by a broker and is a one owner car with
58,000 miles on it. The one I just picked up 2 + months ago had 50,896 miles
on it and runs great. I also bought it from a guy who got it off eBay. I
believe he made a few bucks profit off me. I'd have paid more for the same car
if it came down to it. There's good deals out there and a lot of low mileage
cars with little or no rust. Just keep your eyes open.
Try to find a car with original paint that's been garaged and still shines if
at all possible. New paint may be hiding bondo, rust and who knows what else.
That's the case of this local car. On the other hand, they're not giving
away paint jobs anymore.
Good luck

I've seen a bad head gasket really screw up the way the car ran. The car would
be running smooth and after shutting the car off for 5 minutes, the car would

really run bad and the oil can get a lot of antifreeze in it. But, the only
way to find out is to pull the head and see. That'll have to get done

Re: SD LIfters

2006-03-22 Thread amoparx
The next time I need lash adjusters, I'm going with the PT C's. I have heard
nothing but good on TD.Com. The biggest problem with the adjusters we all have
is that after spirited driving, they tend to start ticking because they have
a hard time pumping back up. The newer technology of the PT's allows them to
much more easily stay pumped. I guess it's something to do with the hole on
top. It keeps the adjuster pumped and can easily purge out any air that makes
them become spongy. Like Al C. said, get in touch with thepope on TD.com. I
guess he has the correct sized shims and is reasonable. Everyone that's used
them swear by them. That's good enough for me,

I have seen some postings on the TD Forums about using PT Cruiser lifters in
 the
2.2/2.5 8v engines.Has anyone on this list actually gone that course and used
these in their engines and what might some opinions be? I need to get new
lifters as part of my engine rebuild and if any improvement is gained by this
(not to mention PT lifters cost about half the price of standard--yes,i know
 shims are needed).

Re: SD wheel name

Hi Chris,

When I responded, I was under the impression Dave was talking about the ones
that were dark and the face curved out. He was talking about the ones that
were painted gold and had a more Gothic style like the grill-work in an old
church window.
You're right about how good those dark ones look. Although I pulled mine off
my White/White GTC Convert for some white 16 inch pumpers. (The CS Pumpers
look great on the GTC)
The Dark 16 inch lace looked Awesome on my Black 90 Shelby Daytona. It really
gave it a touch of class. I never put the whole set on, but what was there
looked great. I thought it would have looked good on the 86 shelby Charger
too. The first Shelby Charger I ever test drove had some Black Lace style
wheels on it. This was an 87 Black/Silver SC, back in 1988. I don't know for
sure what they were off of since I wasn't in to the whole Shelby thing at the
time, but may have been (possibly) 87 Shelby Lancer wheels. That was a nice
car. Take Care,

The T2 GTS LeBarons wheels that were somewhat a dark color that ive seen
mostly on the 4 door LeBaron styles that came in that dark maroon color.. the
wheels look great on just about anything ya put em on.. That and the wheel
color ment ya didn't have to constantly detail them ;) I think
the popular ones are the curved faced ones..

Depends on what wheels you're referring to. 89-91 Lebaron GTC's had 16
 standard lace wheels,
and 92-94 GTC's had an optional 16 lace wheel.

The 89-91 style are alot easier to find and quite often see a few sets
 available particularly on turbododge.com
I think these came in white and grey.

the 92-94 style have more of a curved spoke lace pattern than the 89-91's. I
 have heard Lebaron people refer
to these as 'cathedral' wheels and in general they're alot rarer. These came
in white, grey and gold. The golds seem
 to turn up most often.

Mat,

I don't remember the name of the movie, but I remember seeing Tommy Lee Jones
chasing a woman, that was stealing exotic cars, with a Turbo Z. At least I
believe that's what it was. This car also had the V8 sound dubbed in. I only
saw the movie once, but I had my Shelby Charger at the time and I thought,
That doesn't sound like a turbo LOL

yep i used to Hunter when it was first run back in the 80s. before the
reruns. the funny part is the sound dubbing when they used the daytona in
 chases.
the sound editors would dub in a carbureted V8 sound. it was pretty funny.
towards the end of the shows run they switched from the garnett red and
 silver
turbo z to a bright red 1987 or 1988 shelby z hard top.

BTW theres a turbo mopar bit part in the early 1990s movie called Midnight
Run with charles groden and robert dinero. it involves a turbo new yorker
about 3/4 of the way thru the movie. at least they didnt dub a V8 sound over
 this
turbo mopar. you can hear the turbo and 4 banger.

The Wraith is the ultimate tubo mopar movie though. the PPG industries turbo
interceptor is outrageous. turbo interceptor was on display at the Walter P
Chrysler museum for a time. i dunno if this exibit has moved or if it is
 still
there. i have pics of this car on display from the auto show in new york back

 like
 a new car brochure.

Re: SD 185-65-15's on Shelby Charger

2005-12-17 Thread amoparx
Chris,

You've been gone from Minnesota too long. The thinner, the better. Otherwise,
you just float on ice and snow. Thinner tires is like having a heavier car. I
use to be able to walk right through a foot of snow with the 175's, but you put
the 205's on the car and 2 inches of snow, and you're just sliding around.
Even with brand new tires. When I bought the car back in 1988, there were
brand new tires on it and the first month, I ended up in a ditch off the
freeway from a snow storm. I could barely let off the gas without the car
wanting to spin out. I did OK for about 500 miles but.Whoops!. LOL. The
road trip from hell. That's the last time I drive across the country and back,
in a Charger, at Christmas time. Talk about white knuckles. I did run some
195-60-15's a few years ago in my 87 Shelby Charger. They did OK. No rubbing.
These are going to be just 5/16 of an inch taller so I should be OK.
It'll be a pleasure to drive the car after that's changed.

SD 185-65-15's on Shelby Charger

2005-12-16 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

After years of driving my Shelby Charger in the snow, I decided to get a
thinner tire for the winter. I stumbled on a pair of 185-65-15 tires on
clearance at a store. $60.00. Not bad. These would be about 1.4 inches taller
than the original 205-50-15's that are on the car. I'm wondering if anyone has
used this size before on thier Charger. Any problems with rubbing? I drove an
83 Charger years ago that had 175-70-13's and nothing would get that thing
stuck. I figure the new tires should really help. As for the speedometer, It's
so far off at the time that I may just make my own overlay for the winter
tires. LOL. Just kidding.
Thanks

SD Rear shocks, Shelby Charger

2005-11-05 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

I just brought my Charger home a week ago from being stored at a friends. The
car had brand new Monroe GPs (I think they were called) I had a hard time
finding them 3 years ago. Well one is locked up. The car won't move up or
down on the drivers side back. Like a fully extended air shock. Anyone ever
have this problem? Anyway to free this up? The shocks have maybe 5,000-10,000
at the most.
How about using stock shocks from a regular L-body? Anyone ever do this? How
would the thing ride? It's nearly impossible to get shocks for this thing
without ordering them. I need these things Yesterday. I'm starting to drive
this car again and this boucing is driving me crazy.
Thanks

SD FS 90 Shelby Daytona TI auto $400.00 Minnesota

2005-11-04 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

I need to get rid of my daily driver. $400.00 It's a 90 TI Daytona Shelby.
Black with Black cloth interior. The car is rusty. Floors and rear wheel wells.
The tranny shifts good when warm. When cold, the car shifts late. But this is
only lasts for a minute or so, then the car shifts fine. Good firm shifts. I
believe it's a sticky gov. I just replaced the differential bearings a few
weeks ago. I'd trust the tranny for years myself. The engine has a leaky oil
pan gasket. I changed the rod bearings a couple months ago and the end seal on
one side of the pan must have slipped when I put it back on. Engine runs OK. It
has always had a clattering sound, but has sounded like that for the eight
years I've owned it. There's 199,XXX on the odometer now. Minus the 5,000+
miles where the odometer didn't work over the years. I put a head (pressure
tested and resurfaced) with MP gasket and bolts 5-6 months ago. No cooling
problems.
The car needs tires. They're shot. It comes with capless 16 pumpers. You can
test the car with the good tires that are on it now, but they're going on my
other Daytona. The tires that will go with the car hold air, but that's it. I'd
recommend a spare or two, to get the car home. Other than the tires, The car
can be driven anywhere. It has the Infinity cassette radio w/amplified
speakers. (Original) All speakers work except the drivers door. Once in a while
it pops on. No annoying cracking sounds out of it, like so many others do. The
passenger fender is a bit messed up. If you read my post back a few weeks ago,
you saw that I had a ball joint bolt fall out and the tire went sideways. It
happens when a guy forgets to use a wrench on something. LOL
This car is a good winter beater. Don't plan on doing anything more to it than
driving it. Not restorable. Looks good from a distance. I just lost my storeage
for my Charger and had to bring that home. I have too many cars so the Daytona
has to go. I'll post pictures a little later. The sooner I sell it the better.
My next door neighbor doesn't understand my turbo cars.

SD Non stop chime sound, 90 Daytona. Also, looks like a logic mod.

2005-10-13 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

After my little ball joint bolt mishap last weekend, I have a new problem.
The tire pushed a small part of the fender back and also the inner fender.
When the tire is off the car, You can see a metal box behind the passenger side
kick panel. What would this be? Looks like a logic module, but this is a 1990
Daytona. As it is, it has been raining today and for the last 5 hours, I've
heard my car outside, chiming as if I left the keys in and the door open.
Well, the doors are shut and the keys are in the house. The sound is driving
me crazy. Also, the wipers won't shut off. This happened last summer once. I
pullel the fuse and reinstalled it the next day and that problem totally
disappeared.
I'm sure the metal box being exposed to the spray from the front tire is the
reason for the non stop chime. This started after work when I drove in the
rain and has been doing it ever since.

SD Idiotic mechanic.....ME

2005-10-09 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

I just fixed something that I should never have had to fix.
 See pictures..http://www.amoparx.net/woops/
I put new differential bearings and seals in my 90 Shelby Daytona 413 last
week. Guess what happens when you only finger tighten the ball joint pinch
bolts. As soon as I looked at the damage, I instantly remember NOT
tightening the bolts. I fixed it last Sunday and drove it 6 days before the
passenger side came unglued. I heard the bolt fall out while going down the
highway. (two lane at about 55mph) I thought what did I just hit? Within a
few seconds the tire (one month old, BRAND NEW GOODYEAR!) was going sideways
down the highway. It pulled the long shaft out of the the tranny. The tire
changed the shape of the floor in the car. I called my sister and
brother-in-law and they came with tools and rescued me. It took a long time to
fix the car on the side of the road (mostly in the driving lane) because I
didn't have a good enough pry board to get the lower control arm down low
enough to get the ball joint back together. But, long story short, I got it
back toget!
her and was able to drive it home. In a pinch, (If you can find the bolt an
eighth mile down the hiway like I did) you can use a lug nut to screw on the
pinch bolt. Was I ever happy to find the bolt too. That thing could have been
anywhere, but it was right in the middle of the hiway over an 1/8 mile away
from where the car stopped.
Just a few minutes before this all happened, I was thinking how nice it was to
have a car that I can take anywhere without worrying about something breaking.
This car constantly breaks down and Pi$$es my off, but this tme it was my
error. Well, I'm going to take it for a drive. I think it should go anywhere
now. LOL. Maybe I should start carrying tools. At least my jack. My sister
only brought a sissors jack. That was positioned on the edge of the hiway and
on the dirt. The car fell once on to the frame and we had a heck of a time
getting the jack back under there. I was just telling a friend at work
(Friday) how nice it is to have one of those aluminum racing jacks because
they're so easy to brake down and put in the car. I should start carrying that
too.
Take care and double check your work. I was in such a hurry, I missed the
bolts.

There's another difference. The holes are different sizes. Even if you didn't
know which way the spokes swirled, you can tell the rims apart from a

Yep, the 87 CSX, though they are slightly different than 86 GLH-S units
(reversed spokes and no Shelby cast onto the spoke)

The story goes that the original mold that the ones made for the 86
GLH-S was damaged or lost, so they made a new mold and the spoke
direction changed and they lost the Shelby casting on the opening. The
87 GLH-S received these same wheels. This is why they're called
 Centurion 2's

If you wanted to you could get a pair of 86 GLH-S wheels to put on one
side of your car and then all the wheels would spin in the same
 direction.

Anyway, in 88 the CSX-T received the wider (6.5) LeMans wheels and of
course in 89 the CSX-VNT received the 6.5 wide fiberide wheels.

SD 413 final drive ratio

2005-08-27 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

This may sound stupid, but I need bearings and races in my differencial on my
413. I went to NAPA today and they didn't list the bearings. I have an old
413 here and was wondering if I could pull the two end cap deals off the tranny
and the diff gears w/bearings and just swap it all to the other tranny. As
long as I have the same gear ratio, I should be OK, Right? The other tranny
had problems, but not with the differential. The newer tranny eats seals. As
long as I'm using the same bearings with the same races, I assume I shouldn't
have any problems. Am I right? I'm not keeping this car forever. I'm just
trying to nurse it along until I get one of my other cars going and I can dump
this thing.
Both trannys are 413's from turbo cars. I'm not sure about the years though.
Is there a tag on the 413's like all the stick cars that would tell the final
drive?
Thanks,

Re: SD ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP

2005-08-21 Thread amoparx
Hi,

This may work, but you may be starved for fuel at higher RPM's. Some Shelby
Chargers and some GLH's had a Bosch in line pump. They also had a lower
pressure Feeder pump inside the tank. From experience, I know the car would
run W/O the feeder working. But, the car would cut out as you got up there in
RPM's. I had this problem in my 86 Charger for over 2 years before I figured
out what it was. The stock External pump wasn't made to pull fuel out of the
tank. Maybe the design of your's is different though.
Good luck

SD 90 Daytona, TI 413. Bad diff bearings

2005-08-19 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

My 90 TI shelby Daytona has bad differential bearings. I just replaced a seal
on the drivers side last night and found lots of metal flakes. The tranny is
still working OK but I need to get this corrected as soon as possible. The
magnet in the tranny is only going to catch so much metal. LOL What does it
take to change the bearings? I assume I'll have to drop the K frame and pull
the axles out. (Just had that down a month or so ago when I put in a new rack)
Is this a relitively easy fix? Will it all come apart fast and go back together
OK or is it going to be a PITA to get at everything. I don't want to fix it but
am forced to. I really just want to fix one of my other cars and let this one
go cheap but since it's my daily driver...It doesn't give me time to fix
anything else. Something breaks on this car constantly and I don't really do
much more than just drive it fast. Any idea how fast I can change it in a
driveway? I've got two cars in the garage that force me to w!
ork outside. really sucks in the winter.
Thanks.
( I'm a better than average machanic with all the tools. Just haven't dealt
with working on a tranny in the car before.)

SD 89 Shadow code 37,update.

2005-08-07 Thread amoparx
Hi All,
Recap.89 Shadow 2.5 TBI
I went back to my Mom's house today to play with her car again. It's getting
code 37. It will not start. The thing isn't getting fuel. The filter is new.
I turned the key on and the pump was silent. But, I applied 12 volts to the
pump and heard it run. When I checked the voltage to the pump, it was reading
12 volts during cranking. As soon as we let off the key, the voltage dropped
to nothing. (Still in ON position) So, my question is, shouldn't it read
voltage when the key is on? Or does the thing have to start to trigger
something to get the voltage moving? I assume there's a problem with the ON
position and the pump is still good. Computer? Bad wires? I tried
disconnecting everything under the hood and reconnecting it all. All
connections appear fine. I also switched what I believe is a relay for the
pump with a working one off my Daytona. The thing clicked when we turned the
key so I figure it's connected. No change. Any Ideas? I'd like to get t!
 his stupid car going soon.
Thanks

SD 89 Shadow. Code 37

2005-08-05 Thread amoparx
Hi All.

My Moms car will not start. 89 2.5 TBI Shadow. It's been getting worse at
starting for over a week and now won't start at all. It will start if you pour
gas down the TB. I'm getting a code 37. Any Ideas what breaks when you get
this code? It got something to do with a solinoid. Some part throttle thing.
Not sure if the code is from the problem or a result of trying to start the car
with a problem.

Any Ideas?

SD CD Burning Problem

2005-07-25 Thread amoparx
Thanks everyone for all the responses. I haven't seen so much SDML Mail in a
heck of a long time. I guess there's still people out there.
It seems most people have had the best luck with slower burning speed (which is
what I was trying last night) A lot of guys said It's probably because of the
age of the CD deck. I would have to agree with that. My Infinity does the
same thing, but may be a slight bit better at reading self burned CD's than the
Chrysler unit. I'm sure they're built in the same factory though. Most people
say Silver CD's work best and don't use the blue. Two guys said the blues
workedbest for them. I'm going to keep plugging away at it. I have more
computers than cars. I also have lots of blank CD's and a few programs I
haven't tried yet. When (If) I figure this out, I'll let everyone know. Then
you'll know what makes the worse case senario work.
Thanks again everyone,

SD Power steering pump or rack?

2005-06-17 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

I have a hard to steer car. The pump was low on fluid and the belt was loose.
The thing started steering hard so I checked it out. The car never worked any
better after tightening the belt and adding fluid. How can I tell for sure if I
have a bad pump or rack. I don't know why, but I have a feeling it's the rack.
I'd hate to put the pump in if it's the rack.
Thanks

SD Changing a Daytona rack

2005-06-17 Thread amoparx
OK, I put a pump in and there was no change. The rack is bad.

This is my 90 Shelby Daytona TI. I've put a rack in my 86 Shelby Charger years
ago. If I remember right, it sucked. Anyone ever do a Daytona and a Charger?
I'm wondering if it's any easier than the L-body. I don't want to fix this. I
don't even want to keep the car. But, this is my daily driver and I can't get
rid of it until I make another car dependable. This is the car from hell. I
hate it. I fixed everything on this car many times and the $%^#$ thing just
keeps breaking.
Anybody have a simple way to change the rack? I'm assuming the k-frame needs
to be dropped.
Thanks

Re: SD No fuel pressure when key off

I'd be willing to bet the FPR is bad. After running the car, check to see if
there's fuel in the vacuum line. Do you smell a strong raw gas smell? Another
good indication the FPR is bad. Anytime I've had a bad one, the car would
crank quite a while to get the pressure and start.

SD Wipers won't shut off. 90 Daytona

2005-06-11 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

My wipers won't shut off. They worked a couple hours ago. Now they stay on.
They will go to a slower speed, but not off completely. Anyone have this
problem before? Do I need a new switch or can something be done with the old
one? Kind of strange, I was heading to a salvage yard when the problem
started. But, after taking the time to pull a fuse, I wouldn't have made it
there in time. Bummer. They have an all you can carry deal today for $29.90.
I was already there earlier today and was rained out of there. Besides, I
couldn't carry anymore stuff. But, I wanted to get a couple more things I
forgot about and was willing to drive the 80 mile round trip again.
Thanks.

SD freeing sticky kickdown lever

2005-05-08 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

Anyone have any ideas how to free a sticky kickdown lever on an a-413. This
basically happened over night. It shifted fine and then in didn't. The lever
is really stuck. I have been working it to no avail. I've put a little (not
much at all) WD-40 on it. I tried tranny fluid. I pulled the battery and tray
and then the lever so I could get oil on it. I tried playing around with an
old 413 in the garage that had the same problem at one time. I pulled the
lever on that one and can put the shaft up about a quarter in while tuning it.
This one is free. I think I shot it with WD-40 when I first learned of this
problem from Dave Grove a while back. It freed it up well but the tranny was
already gone by that time. This one is a good one so I'd like to get this
fixed before I'm putting in yet another one. Does the valve body have to come
out to pull the selector/KD shafts? Has anyone freed one without tearing this
apart. I don't mind digging in, but don't have the tim!
 e right now.
Thanks

SD 90 Daytona TI, Codes 37 and 13

2005-04-21 Thread amoparx
Help,
I put a tranny in my car last summer. (90 Daytona TI) Before doing this, The
car ran fine. No problems. Immediatly after that, the engine light comes on
when I come to a stop. When starting off from a stop, The car stumbles then
runs fine, unless I shut it off and re-start it. I usually do this after the
car is up to speed. Then I can drive for long periods of time with the light
off. As soon as I slow down, The light comes on. I get codes 37 and 13. I
replaced the MAP with one I had laying around and nothing changed. I assumed
when I put the tranny in, I had broken a vacuum line or electrical connection.
After I replaced the head last week, I didn't notice anything out of place.
Could the Baro solenoid be bad? I know the code says something about that.
I've never heard of one of these going out. Loose connections? I have wiggled
wires checked and rechecked hoses and still nothing.
It's doing it more often now. I barely get my foot off the gas and on comes
the light. Any Ideas?

SD Pull plugs when buying used head

2005-04-14 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

I just learned something tonight. When buying a used head from a salvage yard,
pull the plugs out first. You may save yourself a heck of lot of time and
aggravation if the dumb SOB that use to own the vehicle was too stupid to use
anti-seize on the threads. I pulled the 4 plugs out of the head after getting
it checked and resurfaced. Or should I say 3 1/2 plugs. 2 were easy, one took
5 very careful minutes with a 1/2 drive breaker bar. Then the last was the one
that took 5-10 minutes of trying to work it back and forth with the breaker bar
until the plug snapped. Now I get to drill it out. It isn't the first time.
At least I have experience and the head hasn't been installed yet. BUT NEXT
TIME
I have to get this daily driver done tomorrow morning so I can put a clutch
in my wife's daily driver tomorrow. Too many vehicles, not enough runners. LOL

Re: SD Collectibility issue?

2005-04-11 Thread amoparx
The fact that the experts don't know what will be worth something is so true.
I watched, what I believe was Good Morning America about 20 years ago. Mr.
Hemmings ? from Hemmings Motor News was asked, What car, do you believe is the
best investment right now? He replied, Anything made by AMC That made my
day since I have a 68 AMX. I also heard everyone say that if AMC ever went out
of business, the price of my AMX would skyrocket. Well they went out of
business and I couldn't give my car away if my life depended on it. I still
have the car and now I'm starting to see the prices going up. The thing with
the AMX is that it was always under appreciated. It wasn't a Chebby Fard or
Mopar. I could have purchased a mint 1970 HEMI Challenger R/T with 24,000
miles on it in 1974 for $1,500. That was the same price that I paid for the
Challenger I was driving at that time. How things have changed.
But, there are a lot of Turbo lovers and a lot of guys want that $600.00
GLHS. I want it really bad and was thinking about getting a friend to help me
bring it to Minnesota. Biggest problem is, My wife quit her job one month ago
and doesn't seam to be trying too hard to get another. We live check to check.
The company I work for is about to go belly up. I've been there 24 years.
(hope it goes belly up too. I'll just take some of my 401k and buy a numbered
Shelby.) Seriously. I've been thinking about that for a long time.
You can't blame a guy for wanting to part something out to get rid of it. It
took me about 2 months to get rid of a 90 VNT Daytona ($500) and almost a
month to get rid of my $800 87 GLHS. I know the parts would have sold MUCH
faster.
I wish I was in a slightly better place financially, I'd buy that GLHS in a
second. I need an excuse to do a road trip. Besides, the body has to be more
solid than anything I own. MN. rust doesn't like cars.

SD Head Flaw? Chunk missing.

2005-04-10 Thread amoparx
Hi All
I pulled the head off my 90 Shelby Daytona tonight. There's a chunk of metal
missing in the 2nd or 3rd cylinder. It looks like it may have been like this
for a while. It looks like the gasket would cover this area without any
problems. I put a gasket in this car a few years ago and don't remember seeing
this void. I have a link to a lot of pictures of it. These are larger files.
Sorry, I didn't have a chance to make them smaller. The 6th picture shows the
missing metal well. I will have to get a new head anyway. I found a lot of
cracks. I'm sure they aren't good. The gasket didn't blow in the normal area
(rear #1 cylinder) like most I've replaced. What do you think of these
pictures? I'm curious to know how this happened or if it was always like this.
The car is stock running stock boost.

SD 89 Shadow window off track

2005-04-04 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

I'm trying to fix my Moms drivers door window. It's an 89, 2dr Shadow.
There's a piece of plastic that's riveted to the top/back of the glass. This
piece rides on some sort of track on the back side of the frame around the
glass. The plastic is broken. I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like.
The track seems to be in bad shape also. Has anyone ever fixed something like
this. I've never seen anything like it. Can the piece be purchased new? Can
a replacement be pulled easily off a junk car? It almost looks easier to just
put a different door on it. It looks as though just adding the piece of
plastic might not do the trick and may break again do to the track being
broken. Or at least, in rough shape.
Anyone have any ideas what I can do?

Congratulations on your purchase!!

I guess owning another CSX wouldn't be as nice as having Your CSX back.
There's that weird bond that cars can have on some of us. I wouldn't mind

also come from Trail Dodge. I was actually the second owner. The first was an
old guy that ended up in a nursing home. Go figure. I guess he really loved
the car. His brother had to sell it for him and couldn't figure why he liked
it so much. He looked at it as if it were just a car.

I'm not sure about 89, But the newest V6 ES's would have the same rotors.
I had an 89 ES that didn't have the big brakes but have heard the newers ones

SD 555 Tranny in MN. Yard

2005-03-13 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

I was at U-Pull R-Parts in Rosemont, MN. today and found an 88? Shelby Daytona.
There was an A-555 tranny with the shifter still there. At least the tag
said that. The turbo had been pulled, but engine was still there. (head was
laying off to the side and block was exposed) The radiator and intercooler was
gone.

SD heater control valve

2005-03-07 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

Can a heater control valve break on the inside and still look OK outside? The
problem is, No Heat. This is my mom's 89 P-body. The valve is right next to
the firewall. The hoses going to it are warm. The waterpump is brand new.
I tried moving the lever on the valve and held it there. There was no change
in the lack of heat. How about the under dash stuff? What makes that tick?
Could there be a door that is stuck shut on the inside of the car that doesn't
open even though there's plenty of hot coolant going through the heater core?
Any Ideas? I'm at a loss. I just put a head on this car and don't want to
think anymore. (There wasn't heat before the new head either. Not something I
did)
What am I missing. This should be beyond simple.
Is there any diagrams explaining the heater control valve out there?
Thanks

SD Timing belt tensioner counterclockwise?

2005-03-06 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

This may sound like a stupid question, (since I've replaced a million timing
belts) but which way is the big nut on the timing belt tensioner, supposed to
turn? I know either way will tighten the belt, but I can't get at a diagram
right now. My garage needs to be cleaned. LOL. I believe it's
counterclockwise. I think I remember the tool that's used to tension it hangs
to the left, but can't remember for sure.

Thanks

SD Soda Blasting

2005-02-17 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

I'm trying to get information on soda for soda blasting and not having much
luck. I'm wondering how much a 50 lb bag would run and where a guy could pick
it up.
I'd like to use it for cleaning up some rims for repainting.
Also, does it clog sand blasters a lot worse than silica sand? I'm assuming it
would. I'd probably use it externally (out of the box) most of the time.
Thanks in advance for any help.

SD F/S Daytona VNT $600 Minnesota

2004-11-15 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

I want to get rid of my VNT. The car is white. It's rough. Non common block
knocking engine. Doesn't boost Not sure why. It has once. I've driven the
car less than 300 miles since buying it less than a 1.5 years ago. I never had
time to mess with it. I want to keep the tires and rims. Basically, bring
your own. Theres a good 568 tranny that shifts fine. The car does run, but I
wouldn't trust it that far. I did drive it 60+ miles home after buying it.
$600 It's good for parts, if you don't want to fix it up

Re: SD RE: Lubricants and Lubricant Additives

2004-11-11 Thread amoparx
I'd have to agree with that. Myself, I use Castrol. Or if I don't have a lot
of money, then I'll go with Walmarts cheap stuff. Oil changes in my cars over
the years, have gone over the limits. But they still run. I have damaged a
couple engines due to low oil. Long stories, Cars were new to me and I was
dumb enough to assume there was enough oil in them. Otherwise, I have many
time gone over 6,000 miles on dino oil and my TII still runs good at 220,000
miles. I've only put synthetic in it once or twice.
I do add a quart of Mobil 1 here and there, now days. I've heard you get a
lot of the benny's from it (like cold weather starting) without all 5 quarts.
Besides, I'd rather change my oil on a regular basis for about $6.00 instead of
paying $18.00 for Mobil 1. I'd probably think differently if I bought the cars
new, but they have a lot of miles and run fine so far.

On the supetech oil container, there is standards it is judged by (SJI I
forget the letters, and I am not going out to my cold garage to look it up)
The supertech oil passes a standard that meets or exceeds most new car
warranty standards, doesn't it? I have been using this oil in everything for
years, from my Daytona VNT, my Challenger and my Wife's new PT Cruiser. There
is never a problem with lubrication. Heck Walmart only charges about 12
bucks to do a conventional supertech oil change. I have been working around
cars and heavy equipment and machinery for years, and the majority of
lubricant related failures I have seen are from letting the oil run low. I
have never, NEVER saw a failure due to the brand of oil. Just my opinion

SD Vericom, like G-Tech

2004-11-08 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

I'm kind of wondering if anyone ever heard of a Vericom Performance Computer.
It's like a G-Tech, but prehistoric.
My Wife brought it home from the Salvation Army the other day. She paid $1.59
for it. It actually works. Just plugs into the cigarette lighter and attaches
to the windshield, It'll tell you your 1/4 mile times and 0-60. I'm sure it
does other things too, but these are the things I've been playing with. I'm
wondering how accurate this thing can possibly be. How accurate are G-Techs?

RE: SD Alternator Options for 2.2 Turbo's

2004-11-05 Thread amoparx
I found out the hard way about jumping cars about 12 years ago.
My ex-wife lost her timing belt in her Shelby Daytona on her way home from work. She
said the car just died at an intersection and killed the battery trying to restart it.
I went to help. I tried jumping her for quite a while with my Shelby Charger before
I realized the belt was gone. Well that was the last time my car charged on it's own.
I had blown the regulator. That meant I had to get a new power module. Since this
was before this great thing called the Internet and the car was hard to find used
parts for, I had to get that new. $144.00 back then, I believe. I kept charging the
car before and after work for a couple months just to keep it going. I don't know if
I lost my alternator right from the start, but after I put in the PM, I discovered I
needed that too. Now days, when I believe I have a low battery, I use a battery
charger so I don't take any chances.

SD f/S 90 VNT Daytona White $700

2004-10-15 Thread amoparx
Hi All,
I'm thinking about getting rid of my 90 Daytona VNT. The car needs a lot of work. I
have too much going on right now. I want to keep the car but just need to free up some
space. I want to work on my AMX and get new bumpers.
Car has about 110,000 miles. Wrong engine block. It's not a common block. It knocks.
Has only boosted for me once. I haven't looked at it too closely. I've had the car for
a little over a year and drove it maybe 200-300 miles. The body isn't pretty, but not
much rust for a MN car. It has a good 568. I want to keep the tires and rims. Sorry,
they look great on my GTC convert. Drive it home and then give me back my tires.
The car is good for parts if a person didn't want to bring it back to life. I have
only driven this car when my daily driver had a problem. The headlights don't go up,
but did when I bought the car. I'm sure it's a loose wire or something simple. The
guy I bought it from took the headlight module apart and attempted to fix it. Then I
replaced it completely. Lights still stay down.
The battery also drains when sitting a few days. .But not always.

Re: SD is an 85 to 86 T1 the same engine?

2004-08-11 Thread amoparx
Ted,
The 85 tranny needs an 85 motor to bolt to it. You may have to use the 86 engine and
tranny. I believe you can use the same computer if you change the distributor.
The 85 engine has a 6 bolt crank and in 86, it changed to an 8 bolt.

Re: SD Overheating Problems Still

2004-08-01 Thread amoparx
Hi,
I missed the first letter/letters of this thread. If you're overheating and have heat
inside the car, the pump is working. Does the thermostat open at the proper
temperature? Does the cooling fan work? Ive had one car have problems with
overheating that wasn't due to a head gasket. ALL the rest were. That car had a bad
wire at the fan and a bad radiator. I fixed each and the car started running cooler.
Three weeks later the gasket went.
A lot of people want to think it's something other than the gasket, but usually is.
Good luck.
