Re: CSProbioticsFor most of her life, my wife has been battling IBS. I always believed that a probiotic should solve the problem. We tried many (including the HSO). Nothing worked. Then we tried VSL#3. IBS gone within about two months on one packet per day. Now she gets it by prescription so that our drug coverage will defray the considerable cost. We think eventually she will be able to stop taking it and still remain stable. If you order it, make sure to order from the company itself so that it will be shipped with ice packs. VSL#3 should always be refrigerated. I calculated Dr. Mercolas as being one of the best price per billion organisms on the market. I started his brand recently, and it has improved by bowels after switching from Ayush brand which I was on. RE: CSProbiotics
Thank you for the responses. Kefir and like products are immediately acted upon in the stomach and the friendly bacteria is acted upon by the gastric juices, acids, etc. How much of the friendly bacteria actually makes it to the intestines where it is most needed? That is why I mentioned I would like a delivery system with a timed release feature so the probiotic would be released primarily in the intestines, not the stomach. --Steve Y. _ From: Gayla Roberts [mailto:aera...@gmail.com] Sent: Saturday, March 12, 2011 10:30 PM To: silver-list@eskimo.com Subject: Re: CSProbiotics Kefir and kombucha. You seem to be recommending a product, so why are you asking, or is this a way of promoting this product? I'm confused. Home-made Kefir has 57 strains of friendly bacteria. It's easy to make and very cheap, and can be taken throughout the day. Has made a tremendous difference for me, and for my husband who just had to take a course of abx for a dental issue. A Medisana nebulizer is a great asset Larry. Dear Seth, During the immediately past 15 years we have conducted myriad investigations, experiments and studies involving Vitamin C as the parent...or one of the principal companions. We have never observed any untoward effects of any form of vitamin Cupon any of the probiotic constituents present in the combined spectrum of active elements in ANY research procedure we have prosecuted. Others may have experienced different results. p.s. As a matter of possible interest, I saywe have observed a very powerful positive, reinforcing effect by Vitamin C upon MANY other components in a large number (dozens) of experimental protocols addressing both pathological insults and dietary effects. -[ Received Mail Content ]-- Subject : CSprobiotics Date : Tue, 10 Nov 2009 09:08:58 -0800 (PST) From : seth sato seths...@yahoo.com To : silver-list@eskimo.com Does anyone know if C's destroys probiotics and if so what is the time one needs between taking C's and any kind of probiotic? Debbie, they are live ferments and the only problem was you were over-fermenting. they are still good and healthy. I gave you my toll free number and other news groups to help you get started. Once live probiotic ferments get established they are easy and simple. Some people can not boil water without burring it so there are pills and capsules. The same experience may apply to CS. Some people do not trust making CS themselves. It is still possible to get live probiotics from one of the newsgroups and the facts are they are better than capsules or pills. RE: CSProbiotics
Slippery Elm (inner bark, powdered) is very soothing to the intestines and also healing. You can buy it at a health store that carries herbs or order it in bulk online. Mix approximately 1 heaping teaspoon in a glass of water and mix it in. It thickens like Metamucil, but is healing, not irritating. Can take as much as is tolerated. I would take 3 or 4 times a day between meals or more often if desired. Keep away from any allergy foods like milk and milk products since he is allergic to it. Don't eat irritating foods with a lot of roughage, at least for a while. Some other foods like acidic fruits, tomatoes and citrus may be irritating, at least initially. Eat foods like cooked oatmeal etc. Take the Slippery Elm bark and let the intestines calm down. Wean off the Imodium. (Look into food combining.) There are things like Dr. Richard Schulze's Intestinal Formula #2 which can be taken in a similar manner to the Slippery Elm bark. It has that and psyllium, bentonite, pectin, activated charcoal, ground flax seed, etc in it. It can be made without charcoal for long term use... I found it a bit gritty because of the charcoal. RE: CSProbiotics
Good news for leaky gut sufferers that the inulin/FOS they use heals leaky gut by supporting bowel lining epithelial cell growth as well as stimulating a fluorish of probiotic Bifidobacteria. I haven't looked this one up or got it on my website yet. I'll put it in the inulin references; other studies that show reduction in aberrant crypt foci (beginning bowel cancer cells) as probiotic populations fluorish. Two experiments were conducted to determine if supplementing soluble fiber (fructooligosaccharide, xylooligosaccharide or gum arabic) to a semi-elemental diet would beneficially change cecal and colonic microbiota populations and enhance epithelial cell proliferation. Experiments 1 and 2 used identical dietary regimens; mice and rats were given free access to a powdered semi- elemental diet. Animals were assigned to one of the four following treatment groups: control, no supplemental dietary fiber, fructooligosaccharide, xylooligosaccharide and gum arabic. Dietary fiber was supplied via drinking water at 30 g/L. In Experiment 1 populations of Bifidobacteria and total anaerobic flora were enumerated from the contents of the cecum and colon of weanling mice. Consumption of fructooligosaccharide increased (P 0.05) the concentrations of Bifidobacteria and the ratio of Bifidobacteria to total anaerobic flora. In Experiment 2 tissue from the cecum and distal colon of weanling rats was examined for morphological changes of the mucosa. Consumption of xylooligosaccharide increased (P 0.05) cecal crypt depth and labeling index relative to the other three treatments. Consumption of gum arabic and the control diet increased (P 0.01) cecal proliferation zone. Consumption of xylooligosaccharide and the control diet increased (P 0.01) cecal cell density (number of cells in a vertical-half of the crypt). Distal colonic crypt depth was greatest (P 0.05) in controls and rats fed fructooligosaccharide, intermediate in those fed gum arabic, and smallest in those fed xylooligosaccharide. Pat, have you tried acidophilus? I would think that the continuous use of Immodium on a daily basis would not be healthy. Also the colostrum that someone suggested should show an improvement. Check to see if it is milk-based. Ingredients that are related to dairy would be whey, casein, milk solids, etc. I have a terrible time with even milk in coffeeI would try acidophilous, kefir, real organic yogurt. I do use liquid form acidophilus 50 billion live organisms. This is much more potent then capsule form or any yogurt one might buy. Product I use is Bio-k plus. RE: CSProbiotics
You need to take probiotics when you are not eating meat. For dog a fermented salad is great way of doing this. The fermented pulped salad is made (mostly with leafy greens) adding probiotics (human grade and non dairy) to establish the good bacteria in the intestines. The human grade digestive enzymes are also added (need one with cellulase and amylase at least) are added to the pulped salad and keep the mix at BODY temperature for at least 15 minutes before feeding, wait at least 2 hours after this salad mix before feeding meaty bones for the best results. This salad helps diarrhea problems as well as constipation, boost the immune system and gives extra b vitamins to boot :o It helps to repair the intestines by establishing good bacteria that prefers raw food and leafy greens. You first pulp the veggies (chop up some romaine lettuce so it is easier to process, some freeze it first to smash into very tiny pieced in the bag after it is frozen) some add a little water for processing) it should look like baby food when done. For sick animals make it mostly leafy greens and low starchy veggies. You can freeze this mush and then continue the rest of the procedure when you need some more fermented veggies. With the thawed mixture or the freshly made one you add some probiotics human grade (non dairy type) always sold in the fridge of pharmacy or health food store. add one capsule or digestive enzymes (like UDO's digestive blend human type, though if you read the labels you will find similar types for less money) but they should have the basics of Cellulase and Amylase. (for dogs and cats about 10 pounds or less use 1/4 capsule of each) Best with a sick dog to add to his food as well and so they should also have Lipase and Protease. I share my digestive enzymes with my dog so I make sure that is also has Lactase as I have problems with milk digestion (but if the mix you get does not have this it is still good for the dog) I do not like the dog types because they often add stuff and some use the poorest quality and the probiotics often are not alive. Some are a joke and if you read the label are often are just prebiotics and sold on a shelf so no live ones left (The ones I have seen are a waste of money IMO or not as beneficial as getting the human grade varieties) Some use this salad instead of a fast day when feeding a raw meaty bone diet.
